Feeling tired, foggy, or uncomfortably bloated even when you’re eating well and moving your body? We sit down with clinic owner Melissa Ozukum with Your Inner Health to unpack what Colon Hydrotherapy actually is, what a 40-minute session feels like, and why a careful, short protocol can help rehydrate and loosen old buildup that lingers along the large intestine. Melissa demystifies the process with plain-language guidance and a focus on comfort, care, and results.

We walk through the science-informed logic: the colon absorbs water and electrolytes, which means residues can harden into cement-like pieces over time. That stubborn buildup can press on new meals, fuel bloating, and contribute to fatigue and brain fog. Melissa explains how gentle fills and releases of warm water aim to coax that material out, why next-day follow-ups matter, and how adding electrolytes and probiotics helps your body replenish what it needs. She also addresses top concerns head-on, including microbiome depletion narratives and perforation fears, highlighting best practices, rounded speculum tips, and the importance of trained therapists.

You’ll also hear Melissa’s personal journey—from months of supplements and diet changes to a dramatic shift after her first two sessions—which led her to train, join the clinic, and eventually take it over. Beyond the technical details, we talk about why most clients leave saying, “That wasn’t as bad as I thought,” and how a warm, judgment-free setting helps people finally talk openly about digestive health. If you’re curious whether colon hydrotherapy could support your own routine, this conversation offers practical steps, safety clarity, and a clear sense of what to expect.

SPEAKER_01 (00:00):
This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place
where local businesses andneighbors come together.
Here's your host, Rachel Five.

SPEAKER_02 (00:12):
Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast.
Now, if you're feeling unusuallytired or unable to concentrate,
you could have buildup in yourcolon.
And colon hydrotherapy could beexactly what you need.
And luckily, that resource iscloser than you think.
Today I have the pleasure ofintroducing your good neighbor,

(00:35):
Melissa Oslico, with your innerhealth.
Melissa, how are you doing?

SPEAKER_00 (00:42):
I'm doing great.
How are you doing today?

SPEAKER_02 (00:44):
I am doing really, really well.
And I gotta tell you, I'm reallyand we're really excited to
learn about your business.
So tell us about your company.

SPEAKER_00 (00:52):
So your inner health was actually established over,
oh my gosh, 17 years now.
I bought the business about fouryears ago from the previous
business owner.
Our heart is really to give justa holistic environment and make
something that could be awkward, not awkward at all.
Um, we are very passionate abouthelping people feel better from

(01:15):
the inside out.
Uh, would you like to hear abrief explanation of what a
colonic is?

unknown (01:20):
Absolutely.

SPEAKER_00 (01:21):
Yeah.
So a colonic is a 40-minutesession.
So I tell people to allowyourself an hour in and out of
the clinic.
You know, you go back with thecolon therapist, they're going
to guide you through the wholeprocess.
They're going to help to inserta speculum through the rectum
area.
And then it's a series of fillsand releases of water through
the large intestine.
Essentially, what we're tryingto do is soften the old waste
that can't actually get stuck onthe sides of the colon.

(01:41):
Even if you go to the bathroomevery single day, you can have
buildup of anywhere from five to20 pounds of old waste in your
gut any given time.
So our goal is essentially torehydrate that old buildup, get
that to come out so you can haveum better bowel movements, less
brain fog, less fatigue, lessbloating, which I feel like a
lot of people struggle with andthey just think it's normal.

(02:04):
I have a lot of people that arelike, I don't know what to do.
I eat healthy, I exercise, I doall these things, but I just
can't get rid of this bloat.
A lot of times there could bebuildup in there.
You eat another meal and it'sactually pushing on that
buildup.
So our colon's job is toactually absorb all the water
and electrolytes from our food.
So if anything gets caught inone of those pockets when it's

(02:24):
trying to travel through, thelonger that sits on the side of
your colon, the harder itbecomes turning into cement like
rocks.
And that's how you can kind ofget that buildup in there.
So all my girls are verypassionate.
I always tell people everybodyhere is very motherly and caring
and loving.
So some people get very nervoustheir first time.
And I tell people, don't worry, each girl here is gonna take

(02:45):
really good care of you.

SPEAKER_02 (02:46):
That's wonderful.
How did you get into thisbusiness?

SPEAKER_00 (02:50):
I had a lot of gut issues myself.
I used to struggle with a lot ofbloating uncomfortability.
I was actually going to anaturopath for over a year.
He put me on a bunch ofdifferent supplements.
He told me to cut all thesethings out of my diet.
And after a year of seeing him,he was finally like, you know, I
think you should try a colonic.
And I tried a colonic and Icould not believe how much came

(03:12):
out of my body, first of all,and how much better I felt.
And they encouraged me to do afollow-up session the next day.
And at first I was like, oh,like they're just trying to sell
me on this.
And I was like, but I'll give ita try.
I went back the second day andeven more came out than the
first day.
And I was like, where is all ofthis stuff coming from?
I couldn't believe it.

(03:33):
And then they really encouragedme to do the third one.
At the time, I was working at acoffee shop and I couldn't
afford necessarily to come infor a third session.
So I waited a few weeks.
I came back, and when I cameback, the girl who was supposed
to give me a clonic didn't showup.
So the previous business owneractually came in and gave me a
klonic, and she pretty muchinterviewed me on the table,
asked me what I did, you know, what I'm looking forward to in

(03:57):
the future.
I was actually gonna study to bean occupational therapy
assistant.
And she told me she's acertified trainer, she can help
guide me through the process ifthis is something I'm open to.
And I started working for her,and then about a year after
working for her, I bought thebusiness from her because she
wanted to retire.
So just kind of slided rightinto it.

SPEAKER_02 (04:18):
Wonderful.
Well, now what do you think aremaybe some myths or
misconceptions in your industry?

SPEAKER_00 (04:24):
So, a big misconception is that you know
you shouldn't get a clonicbecause you're gonna be depleted
of all your electrolytes in yourgut microbiome.
And one of the reasons why thatis a big misconception is
because there are some peopleout there that run sessions that
are too long.
So one of the things that we doat our clinic is we only run
40-minute sessions.
And this is why we encouragepeople to come back the next

(04:46):
day, because normally within 40minutes, you're probably not
gonna get everything out.
But by waiting till the nextday, you're giving your body
time to replenish itself so thatwe're not depleting you.
I always tell people a littlegood can come out with the bad,
but that's where I tell peoplejust make sure that you have an
electrolyte and a probioticafterwards, and you're putting
anything that would have comeout, you're putting right back

(05:07):
in.
Um, another misconception isthat we could perforate your
colon.
Again, all these misconceptionsare because there are people
that maybe they're not aseducated or maybe they don't
know what they're doing hashappened.
Of course, that's like in anyindustry, right?
But I would say that with thatbeing said, if you have a colon

(05:27):
therapist who's experienced, you're not gonna get your colon
perforated because um we uselike rounded tips for the
speculum.
The only way you would getperforated is if somebody didn't
know how to insert theirspeculum correctly, which we do,
so that wouldn't happen to you.
Um, I'm trying to think of otherthings or misconceptions, but
those are the two biggest ones,or some doctors will say, well,

(05:49):
your body should naturallydetoxify itself.
You don't need to do a coloncleanse or something like that.
I totally agree.
Your body should naturallydetoxify itself.
But unfortunately, over time, most of us have been exposed to
alcohol, processed food,pharmaceutical drugs, stress,
and that's how buildup can startto happen on the side of our
colon.
What I tell people is this is tohelp assist your body so you can

(06:12):
go back to your naturaldetoxification.
We're trying to get rid of thatold waste so that you can go
back to your normal functioning.
We're not trying to replace thatdetox, we're trying to assist
your body to go back to itsnormal function.

SPEAKER_02 (06:24):
Wow.
Now we know marketing is at theheart of every business.
So how are you, you know, finding your patients?

SPEAKER_00 (06:32):
You know, I would say I it's a lot of word of
mouth because people will comein.
I have a lot of people that comein super nervous, and nobody
wants to talk about pooping.
Let's be honest.
It's very everybody's very shyabout it, they're very
uncomfortable about it, and theycome and experience our clinic
and they can't believe howcomfortable they felt.
They they, I would say probablyconfidently, probably 95% of

(06:56):
people that leave go, thatwasn't as bad as I thought it
was gonna be.
And so normally that's wherethey're like, oh my gosh, I'm
gonna tell my mom about this,I'm gonna tell my friend about
this.
Like, I feel so much better, Ifeel so much lighter.
So normally I would say a lot ofword of mouth would be huge.
A huge demographic would be onGoogle.
People looking up, I'mconstipated, or gosh, I'm so

(07:20):
sorry.
Somebody tried to call me.
Um through, you know, I've beenfeeling uh constipated.
So some people look up on Googleor yelp, something like that,
and that's how they end upfinding us.

SPEAKER_02 (07:31):
Have you ever thought of doing your own
podcast?

SPEAKER_00 (07:35):
I no, I haven't.

SPEAKER_02 (07:39):
Okay.
Now, outside of work, what doyou like to do for fun?

SPEAKER_00 (07:45):
At the moment, me and my husband are actually
fostering a child.
So she is um one at the moment.
She's gonna be, she's like oneand a half.
Um, so most of the time is spentwith her.
Um, we love going on walksoutside and we love just
spending time together as afamily.
Me and my husband are bothmusicians.
So when we get the time, we loveplaying music together and um I

(08:08):
would say hanging out withfriends.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (08:10):
Wonderful.
Well, Melissa, you know, pleasetell our listeners one thing
they should remember about yourinner health.

SPEAKER_00 (08:18):
One thing that you should remember about your inner
health is that no matter yourdemographic, whether you're
spiritual, you're not spiritual,you're trendy, you're not
trendy, no matter whatdemographic you are, you're
welcome here.
That everybody is welcome here.
And I would say that it's just avery healing environment, no
matter where you come from oryour demographic.

unknown (08:40):
Wonderful.

SPEAKER_02 (08:40):
Well, how can our listeners learn more about your
inner health?

SPEAKER_00 (08:44):
Uh, there's two ways.
You could either give me a call.
I'm normally I take phone callssometimes up to 20 minutes just
explaining things to peoplebecause people aren't sure about
it.
So they can either call ourbusiness or they can go to our
website, which isCostamesacolonics.com.

SPEAKER_02 (08:59):

We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today.
