In the vibrant town of Babbleville, lived a loquacious parrot named Percy. Percy loved to talk. He’d chatter about clouds, crackers, and crocodiles from sunrise to sunset, much to the delight (and eventual exhaustion) of everyone in town. His nonstop talking made Percy the most loquacious (chatty, overly talkative) bird for miles.

One day, Percy visited Farmer Fern, whose garden was famous for being fecund. Fern’s tomato vines and cucumber patches were so fecund (super fruitful, highly productive) that veggies grew faster than the townsfolk could eat them. Even the weeds were jealous of the bounty!

But not everyone in Babbleville was cheerful. At the edge of the garden, under a drooping willow, sat Lionel the turtle, looking dreadfully lugubrious. Lionel’s face was so lugubrious (mournful, excessively sad) that snails slithered by just to see who could out-sulk him.

Percy tried to cheer Lionel with a thousand jokes and stories, each one more absurd than the last. But not even a loquacious parrot in a fecund garden could change Lionel’s lugubrious mood—until Percy shared a story so silly, everyone laughed, including Lionel.
