When 19-year-old Morgan Bauer packed her bags and left Aberdeen, South Dakota for Atlanta, Georgia in February 2016, she was chasing big city dreams and independence. With the confidence of youth, she arranged temporary housing through Craigslist and planned to find her footing in a new city far from home. Within days of her arrival, Morgan had vanished without a trace.

The search for Morgan would span years, with her family and friends desperately seeking answers while authorities followed leads that repeatedly went cold. Morgan's last known movements paint a picture of a young woman in survival mode – after her housing arrangement fell through after just one night, she found work as an exotic dancer at a local club. Her final communications included social media posts showing her at a local park, with an unidentified man visible in the background. Then, silence.

Seven years would pass before investigators received the tip that would finally break the case open. In July 2023, authorities searched a property less than a mile from where Morgan was last seen, making the grim discovery of her remains. The subsequent arrests of Jonathan Warren and Katelyn Globe revealed a crime of shocking brutality – Morgan had been strangled, her body dismembered and burned. Warren would later plead guilty to additional charges of necrophilia, receiving a life sentence without possibility of parole.

Through heart-wrenching victim statements, Morgan's family shared the ongoing impact of their loss. Her stepmother's powerful words capture the essence of their grief: "She has now been missing longer than I got to be with her... Everything that was taken from Morgan was taken from us." This episode examines not just the tragic circumstances of Morgan's death, but the painful reality that young women's choices are often scrutinized more harshly than the actions of those who harm them. Join us as we explore Morgan's story and honor her memory beyond the horrific circumstances of her death.

Speaker 2 (03:40):

Speaker 1 (03:42):
Maybe he should do that.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Maybe he has a voice for that.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
Say can you say this?

Speaker 2 (03:48):
Right Now.
I'm going to have to go backand watch Scream tomorrow.
That's what I'm doing.
I'm watching Scream.
Okay, I need my Matthew Lillardand fix.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
I'm glad I could help you figure it out.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard, sydney.
Okay, what do you got for ustoday?

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Not, Sydney, not Sydney.
No, okay, we're going to talkabout Morgan Bauer.
Okay, she's 19 years old andshe decided that she just wanted
to be her own person and do herown thing, and I mean she's an

(04:32):
adult, so those are adultdecisions.
Yeah, and she decided that shewas going to make a big old move
.
Oof, she was living in Aberdeen, south Dakota, south Dakota,
yeah, she caught a ride with afriend to Minnesota, minnesota,

(04:57):
and she got on a plane toGeorgia.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Hotlanta.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
Hotlanta, georgia, there we go, she's ready.
Hotlanta, georgia, Sure, I'llgo, she's ready.
She wanted to, you know, livein a big city, spread her wings,
all that.
So she was just really focusedon being somewhere bigger,
different, right, you know, getting out of that small town,
you know.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Atlanta is pretty cool.
You just got back from thererecently.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
Yeah, and her mom said you know that she really
does everything like 100%.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
She's a go big girl.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
Yeah, you get to win it she was like go big, I don't
want to go home, yeah Right.
So that was kind of her thing,mm-hmm.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
And maybe she didn't go about it the best way.
Yeah, because she actually meta man on craigslist.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
No, not a craigslist man struck up a deal with said
craigslist man that she wouldcome and clean his house if he
would let her stay with him longenough to like get a job, find
her own place to live girl noyeah, so according to Fox 5

(06:23):
Atlanta, she literally stayedone night.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
Oh, wow.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Apparently that deal didn't work out.
There aren't really any detailsas to why it didn't work.
There are reports that say shegot kicked out, which was weird
Because she only stayed onenight.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
They're like I've just been traveling, I'm tired.
You, she got kicked out, whichwas weird because she only
stayed one night.
They're like I've just beentraveling, I'm tired, you're
getting kicked out, you're tired.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
Right.
So it was weird, but Morgan hadsome previous experience
waitressing, but she got talkedinto, I guess, like a little
seedier occupation.
According to officials, morganended up staying at several
different motels and was workingas an exotic dancer at Top of

(07:16):
Gainesville Club.
So she was in Gainesville.
Girl, get your bag.
I mean, what faster way to makeenough to get a place, like now
you're on the fast trackbecause now what you plan to do
isn't going to work out Right.
So you got to make a new plan.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
I mean, if I wasn't blessed with the heftiness,
maybe I would have been on pole.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
Who knows, who knows, who knows what would happen,
the heftiness I don't know beenon a pole.
Who knows, who knows, who knowswhat would happen.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
The heftiness, I don't know, that's kind of in
now.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
So you know, you're like yeah, girl.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
We like them thick, chunky dunks.
We can't go all the way up thepole, but there we go.
I'll spin around the bottom ofit for you.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
You could, you know, sit in a bowl of milk.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Chunky donks.
Chunky donks, I mean to eachhis own with their.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
Right there's.
I was going to say there'sbound to be someone into it.
Right, here's a straw.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Ew.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
Oh my god.
Okay, pardon me, I think Ithrew up in my mouth.
Let me get back on track.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
Back to Morgan Not dipping herself in milk?

Speaker 2 (08:47):
No, not at all.
She was doing her thing.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
Yeah, so acquaintances recall the last
time they saw Morgan dancing atthe adult entertainment club On
February 25th 2016.
Club on February 25ton, georgia.

(09:26):
She was then seen getting intoa green eclipse.
No one knows who the driver ofthat car was, so some mysterious
Mitsubishi driver picked her upLike was he from.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
Craigslist too, like weird.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
I don't know, but absolutely weird.
Morgan would then post a videoon social media the following
day and in that video Morganappeared to be at the Porterdale
Yellow River Park and thereappeared to be a man behind her,

(10:10):
like following behind her inthe clip, but nobody knows who
this man is.
And you said, like in your lastepisode, the Delphi stuff, yeah
.
I was just like this reminded meof that.
Right Him following like, yeah, there's a video and there's
some strange dude behind youthat nobody knows.
Yeah, that's scary.
Unfortunately, past this clipon the 26th, morgan would not be

(10:35):
seen or heard from after.
It's really messed up when weget further into this, but I
guess I should have told peoplein advance disclaimer it's.
It's gross and there's some youknow, lifestyle choices that

(10:57):
were right were made not bymorgan but by people who did
things to her.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Okay, okay, so listener, discretion advised.
Yeah, you don't like that sortof stuff, yeah.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
And you know you think about it because this girl
got all the way in Atlanta andis basically having to go
directly into survival mode.
So I get that a lot of peopleare probably thinking I mean,
she's a stripper, right?
You know what'd she expect?

Speaker 2 (11:30):
Right, and what does she expect moving down here for
Craigslist?
But she was probably a smalltown girl in one of those states
and that's why and she wantedout.
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
And I'm sure she didn't find that this, like
anything, was wrong with it and, let's be real, her mom was
probably like this is not safe.
This like yeah, I'm reallyconcerned about the choices
you're making, but at 19, youknow what you're like I'll do
what I want.
I got this yeah I'm fine, youknow, just just like yours yeah,

(12:00):
right I'm a teenager and I knowit all Mm-hmm Like.
So this is the theme, this week.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
You know nothing, Jon Snow.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
Crazy little know-it-all teenage girls.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
It took me until I was like 30 to go shit.
My parents were right yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
So I mean, she fell off of social media, which is
something that she was likealways on.
Yeah, she was always in contactwith her best friend and, you
know, there would usually stillat least be like snaps or
whatever.
Like just little things Likeyou can see part of her head.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
I'm sure.

Speaker 1 (12:41):
Just like my kids do that crap to me.
They send me, these Snapchats.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
Yeah, they're like their eye and a forehead.
Yeah, yeah, I'm like what isthis for right?
But hey, I'm alive, mom, Iguess.

Speaker 1 (12:50):
So you know, um, her phone had either died or been
turned off.
Post that, the video and stufflike that.
So like there was no pinging itto try to find out where she
was, because it was like justdead.
Yeah, on july 27th 2023 this ishow long, yeah, it's taken to

(13:20):
really do anything like they'vequestioned people.
They've done all the thingsthat you would normally do in
2016 after somebody goes missing, right, and I'd.
So at least you know they wereinvestigating, unlike in your
case, right, you know nothing,nothing.
So they were looking butweren't getting very far.

(13:42):
There was a tip.
There are no details of said tip, but this is what led them on
July 27, 2023.
It was like the FBI, multiplelocal law enforcement agencies,
all kind of came together andserved a warrant on a property

(14:05):
that was less than a mile fromthe park where Morgan had taken
that video, right, and so thisis another instance where this
property that they're searchingis now owned by different people
.
It's not owned by the samepeople that had it before.
So whole new set of folksowning this piece of property,

(14:29):
which is pretty expansive, sothat it was a lot of land that
they were searching, so that itwas a lot of land that they were
searching.
The search warrant was obtainedbased on credible information,
according to the PorterdalePolice Sergeant, michael Walden.
He didn't reveal any furtherdetails about the tip and it was

(14:58):
also stated during an afternoonpress briefing that items of
evidentiary interest wereretrieved.
They did not state what thoseitems were, however.
A couple months later, theyarrested two people.
Jonathan Alexander Warren andCaitlin Globe were extradited
from other states in earlyAugust 2023.

(15:20):
It came to be known later thatthose items were actually the
bones of Morgan Bauer that werefound on that property.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
Oh wow.

Speaker 1 (15:35):
Warren was originally arrested in Los Angeles on.
This is the fun part murder, obviously aggravated assault,
concealing death and tamperingwith evidence All of these are
felonies.
Once he was brought back toNewton County, they added the

(16:02):
charge of necrophilia.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
Oh my.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
God.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
No, no, ted Bundy no.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
Yeah, and that's why I said ew Gross yeah, and I mean
I would assume everyone knowswhat necrophilia is do you see
this, look on my face over here.
I'm like gross face.
I mean this that is.
I mean he essentially sexuallyassaulted a dead body.

(16:30):
Yeah, so gross.
Yeah, um globe was arrested inpeoria, illinois.
She was also charged withconcealing a death and tampering
with evidence, um, and then, when they brought her back to
newton county, they added murderand malice murder as well as an

(16:54):
aggravated assault charge.
It is unclear how they knewmorgan.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
Yeah, like nobody really knows was it just like a
random chance like?
Like they just upon her maybe,or were at the club where she
was at and was like yeah.

Speaker 1 (17:12):
They've not.
They've not spilled the deetson that, so Somebody needs to
start deeting.
Yeah, the details of Bauer'sdeath contained in the
indictment are just gruesome.
She was strangled to death byWarren and Globe.
They then cut up her body andset it on fire.
Oh my God, During this gruesomeact at some point is when

(17:38):
Warren performs sexual acts onMorgan's deceased body.
Not specifically as to when orwhat, thank goodness, because I
didn't want to read it.

Speaker 2 (17:47):
Yeah, I don't want to throw up.
Me either and fun fact.
That's why most more you knowundertakers and things like that
and people that work in amortuary are female, because
yeah, I mean you always have towonder yeah, like yeah, what are

(18:07):
these dudes really doing in themiddle of the night?
Dead women exactly, and they, they've caught them doing yeah
yeah that's why it's mostlyfemale workers in there Like ugh
, yeah, ugh.

Speaker 1 (18:19):
That says a lot about you.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
Because they don't see a person.
They see an opportunity.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
Yeah, yeah, which is very, very sad.
I would hate to think some, like you know, I've had my
grandmother pass when I was 16or something, and I think a lot
of that was happening aroundthat time.
And all I could think was likeugh, Right, Like would you
really do that?
Like sitting there fondlingdead lady boobies, Right, I'm

(18:47):
just like ah.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
You're like I'm going to sit with her body until
she's.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
Right, can I just watch you do everything, because
I want to make sure mygrandmother doesn't get molested
while she's dead, right, because you look creepy.
Right, yeah, lots of them do.
Yeah, I'm not saying everyonewho looks creepy molests corpses
.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
No, not at all, and not everybody that works in a
you know funeral home andmortuary and all that does that.

Speaker 1 (19:16):
No, but it is mainly females now, because there was
definitely a stint where yeah,woo, that's crazy.
So in January 2024, warrenactually pled guilty to state
charges of malice murder, tampering with evidence
concealing the death of anotherand necrophilia.

(19:38):
He literally entered anon-negotiated plea, which means
there was no deal Like therewas no.
If you plead guilty, we'll dothis or whatever.
Like none of that.
He wasn't offered a deal.
He decided to to do thishimself.

(20:01):
Yeah, he was sentenced to lifein prison without parole.
There I, for whatever reason, Idon't think the death penalty
was like an option, but I thinkinitially he had asked for it
well, yeah, he's, he doesn'twant to live with himself now.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
I don't want to live in prison the rest of my life.
Just go ahead and kill me.

Speaker 1 (20:20):
But apparently he has apologized and knows that he
can't be forgiven, but he'strying to atone for what he did.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
As Blanche Devereaux says on TikTok Trash yeah, trash
For sure.
As Blanche Devereaux says onTikTok trash yeah, trash For
sure.
And if y'all don't follow her,you should, you should.

Speaker 1 (20:42):
Absolutely, and Andrew.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Right and Andrew Follow them both they're great,
they're funny.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
As late as September 2024, the indictment against
Globe is still pending, so likeliterally can't find a single
solitary thing about heractually going to court.
I keep finding articles wherethey're like oh, it got
continued to this date orwhatever.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
How long do you hold on to somebody?

Speaker 1 (21:09):
I also did an inmate search because, me being me, I'm
like where's she at what's shedoing?
Nowhere, nowhere.
Can't find her, can't find her.
I'm like where's she at what'sshe?

Speaker 2 (21:17):
doing Nowhere.

Speaker 1 (21:17):
Can't find her.
So I'm like is she even in jail?
Is she like, did this just gohush, hush and they just let her
go?
Did she talk in the beginning?
Is that why he decided to go onand plead guilty?
Because he didn't want to dealwith all that?

Speaker 2 (21:42):
Well, that was like my case, my first case with
Beatrice Ralph.
I could not find anything onher mother after she was
released Nothing.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
Yeah, nothing.
Yeah.
So it's crazy that people areso into the public eye and then,
boom, disappear.
Yeah, and there was like somany people who were sending
like terribly mean messages toher mother and other people in
her family yeah which is why Isaid what I said earlier.

(22:15):
Um, her mom actually even saidthis isn't a story about a girl
who was asking for it or whoshould have known better.
This is about a girl who ismissing and needs to come home
safely.
Right, it doesn't matter, she'sworth everything and she's so
loved.
We want to focus, focus to justbe about Morgan and finding her

(22:37):
, and I was just like, yeah, Imean, that's so sad that people
would be like like I said, oh,judgmental, because she went on
Craigslist and moved andwhatever.
Like, yeah, the details ofeverything that happened and the
misfortune of of finding outhow strangers truly are.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
Right, this is not her fault, right?
Because if she would have movedthere with like a dream and
worked a regular job andsomething like this happened, oh
my God.
This is such a tragedy.
But they're going to judge herbecause of how she did it and
what she was doing.

Speaker 1 (23:12):
Right, it's disgusting.
It's automatically the girl'sfault.
She shouldn't have been.
Yeah, whatever, I don't know.
I just think it's messed upabsolutely is um, I know that,
like her parents, her momespecially, was like grateful
they didn't have to go through atrial and having to listen to

(23:38):
that guy.
But details but there's likeyeah, like she said, you know,
and I'm glad he chose to takeresponsibility for his actions,
but there's no such thing asjustice or peace in something

(24:00):
like this.
She's like, it's still, like itdoesn't matter that he's in
jail, it doesn't bring her back.
Yeah, which is true.
It doesn't make her feel anybetter Like she lost her
daughter exactly in a cruel andunusual like way and that
that'll never heal yeah, therewere obviously victim impact

(24:24):
statements and, um, morgan's momsaid that she felt like
Morgan's stepmom, like kind ofsaid everything for everyone
else.
She said that like I had stuffto say, but like, and she said,
but Leah went first, Leah is thestepmom.
She said she went first andwe're kind of glad she did

(24:46):
because she basically, you know, summed everything up.
And we're kind of glad she didbecause she basically, you know,
summed everything up and likethey had other people still go
after her.
Her mom chose to go much later, but I'm just going to read you
what Leah said.
My name is Leah.
I'm Morgan's stepmom.

(25:08):
I came into Morgan's life in2010.
Morgan was just starting herfreshman year of high school.
Morgan was like any other girlat that age.
Our relationship grew and, aswith any teenager, sometimes it
was great, other times it wasrocky at best.
I laughed with her, hugged her, dried her tears, cried with her

(25:30):
and celebrated her.
I loved her.
She had a great relationshipwith my kids and my family.
She wasn't always perfectChildren seldom are and nothing
is perfect in a blended familybut we had some really great
moments.
I had been in Morgan's life forsix and a half years before she

(25:53):
went missing.
She has now been missing longerthan I got to be with her.
She was the only daughter Iwill ever have, the only sister
our boys will ever have.
When kids grow up, they losetouch with their parents at
times and then grow closer asthey mature and realize that
their parents aren't as thengrow closer as they mature and
realize that their parentsaren't as dumb as they once
thought they were.
We don't get to do that withMorgan.

(26:16):
Everything that was taken fromMorgan was taken from us.
We don't get the opportunity tosee her do anything that kids
do when they grow up.
She will never get married.
Her dad will never walk herdown the aisle.
She will never have children.
She will never get married.
Her dad will never walk herdown the aisle.
She will never have children.
She will never have ourgrandchildren.

(26:36):
Her brothers will never have anadult relationship with her.
The horrific things that wereconfessed to and turned up in
the investigation are all wehave left and are things that no
parent should ever have to hear.

Speaker 2 (26:56):
And that's where she left it.
That's so sad.

Speaker 1 (26:59):
Yeah, and I mean just , I wouldn't want to hear it.
And thankfully they didn't haveto, like I mean they had to
hear it initially, obviouslybecause they know exactly what
happened, but at least theydidn't have to.
I mean they had to hear itinitially, obviously because
they know exactly what happened, but at least they didn't have
to go to trial and try to arguewith this man and be like you
did this and hear words comingout of his mouth and yeah, that
would have been disgusting.

(27:22):
So it is my assumption thatWarren and Globe were in some
sort of relationship at the time, that they did all of this and
then separated and went to theirrespective states, whatever.
But I, just I am still likeinfuriated with the fact that
there is nothing on her on her.

It's almost like in this momentshe got away with it somehow.
