In this episode of Hot Seat: Media Monday, I hang out with powerlifter and Fitness Mill co-owner Erik Fredsell and photographer and journalist Brian Lazore and discuss the importance of physical and mental health for men of all ages. We also meet Lily Christopher, a LeMoyne College senior who will be interning with the show.
In the first segment, Erik explains the fundamentals of powerlifting, including techniques and the importance of specific lifts: squat, bench, and deadlift. He shares his impressive personal lifting statistics and recounts his fitness journey, detailing how he transitioned from general lifting to pursuing powerlifting competitively after college.
The guys and I highlight the often-overlooked connection between physical fitness and mental well-being, emphasizing how exercising can help reduce stress and improve mental health by boosting self-esteem. The discussion reemphasizes the crucial need for open conversations about men's mental health alongside physical fitness, because both go together.
Also, in this episode, we meet Lily Christopher, a senior at LeMoyne College majoring in communication. Lily will be interning with Hot Seat: Media Monday this summer as an associate producer. In her new role, she will be working to live stream the show on Twitch, producing stories for broadcast and streaming, and working on increasing listenership and downloads among the younger demographics.
