“Trans Rights Rally” and “From Biology to Identity-A Journey Beyond Chromosomes” 3-24-25

On a special edition of Hot Seat: Media Monday, we discuss the upcoming Trans Rights Rally and “From Biology to Identity-A Journey Beyond Chromosomes” with panelists Ace Morreale and Damon, a transgender man. They delve into the current challenges faced by the transgender community, including discrimination and violence, while also celebrating progress such as the establishment of the Onida County Pride Alliance. 

Ace explains that the Onida County Pride Alliance has achieved 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, which allows them to accept tax-deductible donations and enhances their credibility, paving the way for more community support. The Oneida County Pride Coalition is organizing the Trans Rights Rally, which will take place on Saturday, March 29th, at noon on Oneida Square in Utica. Damon shares his experiences as a transgender man, including his journey of realization about his gender identity, the challenges faced from family acceptance, and the importance of living authentically. Dr. Melissa Barlet joins to discuss the complex relationship between biology, gender identity, and societal perceptions of gender. Dr. Barlett will present “From Biology to Identity-A Journey Beyond Chromosomes” at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Monday, March 31st at 6 pm. 

The panelists talk about the various forms of discrimination and legislation targeting transgender individuals nationwide, underscoring the importance of community support and visibility during events like the rally.
