Welcome to Huddles and Heelswhere football finally makes
sense, and no one's yelling atyou for asking questions.
I'm Cindy Chiropractor boy, momand football fanatic.
If you've ever sat through agame completely confused, but
really wanting to understand it,then you are in the right place.
Each week, I'll help you learnthe rules, the plays and the
(00:30):
lingo, but without all themansplaining.
And yes, we'll also talk aboutthe game day snacks, cocktails,
and the cute outfits too.
Whether you're here for thehighlights or the halftime show,
this is huddles and heels.
Let's get into it.
Hello, hello, hello and welcometo Huddles and Heels.
(00:52):
My name is Cindy and I'm thecreator of Huddles and Heels.
And I wanna thank you forjoining me for our sixth
podcast.
And this podcast I have titledPreseason Pressure and Tailgate
Treasures.
So in today's episode, we arejust gonna start talking a
little bit about some of thepreseason action some of the
(01:13):
games that have started.
What has happened, some of theinjuries, who to watch out for
that sort of thing.
And we're also gonna starttalking about tailgating and
getting ready for those firstfew weeks of the season and
planning your tailgate menu anddrinks and all that sort of
thing.
So first we're gonna starttalking about some of the
headlines throughout trainingcamps, injuries, those players
(01:36):
that are.
Coming out of the woodwork orjust getting a lot of news, for
some amazing play and just forsurprising everyone a little
bit.
So first we're gonna talk abouta player that we actually talked
about on last week's episode,Rashaan Slater.
He is a offensive tackle for theChargers, and in our last
(01:58):
episode we talked about how hehad just signed a really amazing
contract extension, and Chargersfans were super excited because
that meant he was gonna be therefor several years to come and
just kind of.
Giving a little stability totheir offensive line and their
team in general.
(02:19):
And unfortunately, he tore hispatella tendon this week, and
that means he's out for theentire season.
And so Chargers fans are justabsolutely devastated.
And this story makes me think ofa friend of mine who always
talks about how as soon as aplayer signs a big contract,
(02:40):
they always get heard.
And so, Mike, when I heard this,I instantly thought of you'cause
that is a conversation that wehave had so many times, but
hopefully that won't happen totoo many other players this
season.
So hopefully Rashan will get aspeedy recovery and be back to
normal next season.
(03:01):
Additionally we have for theIndianapolis cults, a couple of
significant injuries.
Their cornerback, Justin Wally, suffered a torn ACL during
practice and that is a prettybig blow to their depth chart.
Additionally, their quarterback,Anthony Richardson, he suffered
a dislocated pinky in histhrowing hand.
(03:23):
Initially, there were reportsthat it was broken.
Now they're saying it wasn'tbroken, it was just dislocated.
You can look it up online andthere are pictures of it, and it
looks pretty, pretty messed up.
It's pretty gross.
I mean, I actually kind of thinkit's fascinating, but most
people think it's gross.
You can see his pinky on hisright hand about halfway up is
(03:44):
facing a different direction.
It's not supposed to do that.
Looks like it doesn't feelgreat.
But yeah, that is something thatthey're gonna be monitoring.
Hopefully since it's not broken,it won't have him out for too
terribly long.
He's a quarterback.
It's his throwing hand.
You definitely use your littlefinger in those sort of
situations.
So they will be keeping a closeeye on that.
(04:04):
Next we have Najee Harris.
Najee Harris is a running backfor the Chargers as well, and he
is still not practicing aftersuffering an eye injury from a
fireworks incident.
So he has not practiced all oftraining camp hasn't been
involved at all.
And this needs to be a lesson.
(04:26):
Kids, ladies, gentlemen, kids,everybody.
Anybody don't play withfireworks?
Haven't we learned this lessonbetween Jason Pier?
Paul blowing off some fingers.
Now we have Najee Harrismissing.
Time due to an eye injury.
Due to fireworks.
Like let's just leave thefireworks alone.
There are plenty of places thatyou can go to for these holidays
(04:49):
that put on spectacularfireworks displays.
Let's leave it to theprofessionals.
Okay?
And just put the fireworks down.
Don't play with fireworks there.
I said it.
Another injury, for the GreenBay Packers is safety.
Xavier McKinney.
He has a calf injury and so theyare keeping a close eye on him
(05:11):
and actually they're probablygoing to have him pretty limited
throughout most of thispre-season in order to just try
and make sure that he is readyand rearing to go for their week
one opener.
So those are some of the keyinjuries.
There are several othersthroughout the league, a lot of
kind of pulled hamstrings andsore this and sore that.
(05:31):
It's a little disconcerting allof the different injuries that
are happening and some of themajor injuries with some of the
blown out knees and things likethat.
As a chiropractor, it has me alittle frightened for some of
these guys.
I feel like they need to do abetter job of stretching, not
only now, but also during theiroff season.
If those muscles are nice andloose, they are much less likely
(05:52):
to inju and not as likely tohave tendon, tears and ligament
tears.
That sort of thing doesn'tcompletely avoid it, obviously,
but, it definitely makes it morelikely.
So let's get out there and dosome stretching boys.
But as far as some of thehighlights from different
players in the trading camps, one of the players that actually
(06:13):
was out the majority of lastseason due to a broken, tibia
and fibula in his leg is AidenHutchinson.
Aiden Hutchinson plays for the.
Detroit Lions and he's adefensive end and he was having
an amazing year last year.
He was actually, could have beenon track and could have easily,
(06:38):
maybe not easily, could havebroken the single season sack
record last year had he not.
Broken his leg in game six.
But he's back this year, actually sooner than expected.
Playing in full on in trainingcamp this year, so that is a
great thing.
However, maybe not for theDetroit.
Lions offense.
(06:59):
Cause even though you know it'spractice and they're playing
against their own team and thatsort of thing, they have
implemented something that theycall the Hutch rule because he
is so fast at being able to getaround that offensive line and.
Beat them and get back there andbe prepared or, you know, be in
a position to sack a quarterbackor get a tackle on a running
(07:20):
back.
Obviously it's, they're playingagainst their own players.
They're not actually sacking thequarterback.
It's more of a touch footballsituation in that sense.
But they have now created theHutch rule where if he gets past
the offensive line and he isgoing to sack the quarterback,
they just keep playing.
They pretend like it neverhappened.
I mean, they acknowledge thefact that he did it, but
(07:41):
ultimately they're saying thatit is happening so often He.
Just so fast and he's doing suchan amazing job that if they
stopped every single time, hewas essentially, sacking the
quarterback, they would neveractually get any plays
accomplished.
So that is pretty cool.
So he is a player to definitelykeep a close eye on during this
(08:03):
season.
I'm excited to watch him.
I think that's a really excitingposition.
Exciting players usually playdefensive ends, so some other
kind of.
News throughout the league.
Tonight actually, I am recordingthis on Friday, August 8th, and
tonight the Cleveland Brownshave their first preseason game
and Chador Sanders, is set tostart this game.
(08:27):
So that is interesting becausethere have been.
A lot of rumors and things aboutthe Cleveland Browns quarterback
room.
They seem to have a lot ofpeople in their quarterback
room.
Everybody in their uncle seemsto be playing in quarterback for
the Cleveland Browns this year.
But some of them have injuriesand things like that.
So URA is getting the start.
(08:47):
This.
Week in their first preseasongame.
So I'm sure his father, DionSanders will be on the sidelines
watching that.
But it will be very interestingto see whether or not this is
something that they are doingpurely because of injuries.
It was thought to be that he wasmaybe in the fourth position on
their depth chart, but.
Who knows, maybe he's been doingso well during training camp
(09:07):
that they moved him up.
Maybe it's due to injuries, maybe it's just that they wanna
give an opportunity to see whathe can actually do.
Who knows?
But it should be interesting tosee him play this evening.
Also as far as quarterbacks go,tanner McGee, who is the Eagle's
backup quarterback, he had agreat game against Cincinnati
(09:29):
and he did really well.
Tanner was the six round draftpick in the 2023 draft, and he
has been a backup.
He was a quarterback out ofStanford.
He played college ball atStanford and he had a great
game.
He went, passing 24, 25, over250 yards.
He had two touchdowns and arushing touchdown.
(09:49):
So just like Jalen Hurtz, theirSuper Bowl winning quarterback,
he is a quarterback that can notonly throw the ball into the end
zone, but he can also use hislegs to get there.
So he's getting a lot ofattention, a lot of positive
attention on him.
Buzzing around the internet iseven some things about the
possibility of trade rumors andwhat other team could maybe have
(10:11):
him as a starting quarterback.
So I don't know if that issomething that the Eagles would
consider, but it is definitelysomething that is getting thrown
around out there.
So those are just a few thingsthat I wanted to talk about that
are happening throughouttraining camp with some players
and injuries and just people tokeep an eye on every week.
We'll go over some updatesthroughout the league, and
especially right now duringtraining camp as players are
(10:34):
trying to earn spots, trying toearn a place on the team, let
alone a starting spot.
And those injuries definitelyplay a role in all those things
as well.
When some of those players gettaken out with major season
ending injuries or injuries thatare gonna leave them out for
several weeks at a time.
Now, some of these guys thatmaybe weren't gonna make the
team or were on the bubble now, they probably have a much better
(10:56):
chance.
And so that is always excitingto watch.
So the other thing that we aregonna talk about this week is
one of my favorite things aboutfootball season, and that is
tailgating and tailgating, foodand tailgating menus.
So today I wanted to give anexample of what our standard,
most common tailgating menu maybe.
Kinda my favorite things forplanning a tailgating menu.
(11:21):
And you wanna make sure to havemultiple different things.
I mean, you wanna make sure tohave some appetizers, you wanna
have some main dishes and yourmain meal.
And then of course you need somecocktails to go along with it.
So yeah, we always make surethat we have appetizers because
we set up all our tables and ourtents and our chairs and our TV
and our music and all thatstuff.
And by the time everybody doesthat, you started to get hungry,
(11:43):
but the rest of your food is notgonna be ready for quite some
time.
So you gotta have something tosnack on right away.
And with our group, usually thatinvolves, a handful of things,
but two of the most commonthings that are almost at every
single tailgate.
Unless we're doing like abreakfast themed tailgate, but
most of our tailgates, we willhave some buffalo chicken dip,
(12:04):
which that is just a standardparty appetizer, tailgating
great, but almost any type ofparty.
Some Buffalo Chicken Dip is anexcellent choice.
It is my personal number onego-to.
It is something that I couldmake in my sleep.
I personally think I make reallygood buffalo chicken dip and my
trick is that I melt the creamcheese and throw in the buffalo
(12:26):
sauce and some ranch dressingand some cheddar cheese and any
other little spices orseasonings.
I melt all of that up first andthen I add my chicken and it
just makes it really creamy, smooth, make sure that
everything's evenly distributed, all of that sort of stuff.
It also lets me play around withkind of how spicy I want it.
Um, I do not measure anything.
(12:48):
It drives my mother crazy, sheasked me for the recipe and I'm
like, I don't know, mom.
It's a little this and a littleof that.
And you just gotta measure withyour heart and you know when
it's, you taste it and when it'sgood, then you leave it.
But yes, sometimes I'll add morewing saws.
Sometimes I'll have less.
It may depend on who's there, may depend on what I'm feeling.
(13:08):
All those sort of things.
It's probably never made exactlythe same twice.
So, but that is a standardtailgating, appetizer.
It's great you compare it with, the little scoops, chips,
Fritos, regular tortilla chips, celery, carrots, veggies, all of
that sort of thing.
It is a tailgating staple, that's for sure.
One of the other things that wehave a lot, which is appetizers,
(13:31):
is jalapeno poppers.
I personally love jalapenopoppers.
Jalapenos are just like thisfantastic little vessel that you
can do all sorts of things with.
A standard jalapeno popper canbe cream cheese, cheddar cheese,
some hot sauce, maybe somegarlic powder, onion powder, all
those sorts of things.
You can wrap it in bacon.
You can cook the bacon and chopit up in there.
I tend to think those are alittle bit easier to eat if you
(13:53):
actually cook the bacon and chopit up instead of wrap it.
You can use, ground sausage, allsorts of things you can put in
there.
You can even, if you wanna havea little.
Fancier.
You wanna be a little bougiewith your tailgate.
You can make a jalapeno popperinto a little wonton cup.
Take your jalapenos, your creamcheese, all of the ingredients,
(14:13):
just mix it up, throw it in alittle wonton cup, in a muffin
tin, throw it in your oven, bakeit.
Super good, looks cute, andtaste fantastic.
So when we get to our main menuitems, my favorite thing to have
at tailgating, and when I thinkof tailgating, this is what I
think of, is some ribs.
I love some just nice yummy, alittle sweet, a little spicy
(14:39):
fall off the bone ribs.
I am somebody who does not likewhen I have to sit there and
hold the rib and chew it, chewedall the meat off the bone and
half it gets stuck in your teethand half of it's still on the
bone.
And that's just annoying to me.
I love a rib that you just go topick it up and the bone just
falls out, that sort of thing.
(15:01):
My favorite way most of the timeto make them, in order to allow
that to happen, partiallybecause we're outside and
tailgating.
I don't wanna be getting myfingers all gross and nasty.
Like I'd rather honestly justeat it with a fork.
It's easier.
I know that not everybody agreeswith me, and that may be weird
for tailgating for a lot ofpeople.
It's just my personal opinionand I think a lot of women feel
(15:22):
that way.
I think men are more likely toeat'em with your fingers.
I think women, we tend to be.
Not wanting to get as gross inthose sort of situations.
I don't know.
But most of the time, I meansometimes I end up getting up at
the wee hours of the morning inthe middle of the night to throw
some ribs on our PPA smoker.
But honestly, a lot of timeswhat I do in order to save some
(15:43):
time is I get those ribs, I putthe dry rub on that.
I let that marinate for, a good24 to 48 hours, and then I end
up getting up at probably 5:00AM.
The day of a one o'clock game, and wrap them.
Have'em wrapped in a couplelayers of tinfoil, throw'em in
the oven, just leave them in theoven for a little bit, a few
(16:04):
hours, warm, not hot, not asuper low temperature, but not a
hot temperature.
So it's gonna start to cook thema little bit, but not all the
way through.
And that way, once you get outto your tailgating location, you
can.
Put them on your grill, on yoursmoker, whatever you're cooking
on out there.
Take the foil off, let'em getthat little crust and
(16:25):
caramelization on the outside.
That's when they're super, superyummy.
And those are just the best ribsin my opinion.
In addition to ribs, you alwayshave to have a couple side
dishes, some things that justjump off the top of my head,
when you're having ribs, it'ssome nice creamy macaroni and
cheese, some.
Smoky baked beans, those typesof things.
(16:47):
A lot of times we will bringout, I have a big crockpot thing
with the party crockpot withthree different containers in
it.
One will be.
Macaroni and cheese and one willbe baked beans and one will have
the buffalo chicken dip in itThat way we'll just plug that
into our generator.
We're good to go.
Don't have to worry about thoselittle things that you light up,
that go under the trays.
(17:07):
I hate those things.
We have too many kids sometimesthat come and go at some of
these tailgates.
I'm afraid we're gonna light thepark on fire and you know you're
gonna see us on the news that weburned down Al Lopez Park in
Tampa.
That's not gonna be good.
The other thing that we like tohave at our tailgating that is
often a part of our tailgatingmenu when we can find it in the
(17:27):
grocery store, is our favoritehot sausage.
Let me tell you, if you have nothad the Homestyle foods hot
smoke sausage, you need to goout and find it.
It is delicious.
We have had dozens and dozens ofdifferent brands, of different
types of sausage, but thehomestyle foods, hot smoke
(17:48):
sausage is the best.
We try and buy it in bulk whenwe can.
Sometimes we have to ask ourgrocery store to buy it
specifically for us, butwhenever we can get it, it is so
good.
Usually we'll have a couplepackages of that, throw a couple
of those on the grill, and wejust chop it up into bite-sized
pieces and everybody grabs a fewas they're walking around and
(18:11):
talking and drinking.
It's delicious.
The only thing that you have tobe careful of when you're
cooking those hot smokedsausages is.
That you are paying attention toyour grill because the little
grease will drip off of thatsucker and flame up your grill
major and you'll have burntsausage or if your ribs are on
there as well, you have burntribs.
'cause that flame from thesausage just really fired up.
(18:33):
So be careful.
No stand too close to that.
That's not good.
So the other thing that we needto make sure that we have at
tailgating is cocktails, right?
So of course when it's hot, you're getting ready to watch a
game, all that stuff.
Everybody thinks of beer whenthey think of tailgating, right?
That is, that's kind of a given.
(18:56):
Lots of different types of beer.
Get whatever's your favorite, make sure that it is icy cold.
That's the important thing.
But in addition to that, sometimes we like to have
something that's a little morerefreshing, a little lighter,
maybe not so heavy.
That's when we stir up a batchof our favorite margaritas.
So we often have our largeGatorade cooler, like high
(19:21):
school athletes.
Even the NFL athletes, they havethose big Gatorade things on the
sidelines with the little spoutson'em that they fill up the
little cups.
We have that, but we use it formargaritas or some sort of
beverage one of our favoriterecipes for margaritas is where
you actually go into the freezersection and you break out one of
(19:41):
those old cans of frozenlimeade.
When I first saw this recipe, Iwas like, oh yeah, my mom used
to make like orange juice withthose things when I was little.
I didn't even know they stillmade that stuff.
But you take one of those cansof.
Frozen Limeade, and I'm justgonna give you the recipe here
for one batch.
(20:02):
Usually when we're making it, itis many batches, but just one
single batch, which wouldprobably be like a picture full
or something, is one can offrozen limeade.
Then you fill up that can withwater and pour it in, and then
you fill that can up withSprite.
Or if you really wanna make itlow calorie Sprite, zero.
(20:22):
Or low sugar, and then you alsofill it up with tequila.
So you know, like with some ofthe food earlier you measure
with your heart with thesethings.
So you know, if you wantsomething to be a little
stronger drink, then you add alittle more tequila than just
the can.
If that's too strong for you, then maybe don't fill a can
quite up and use whatever typeof tequila you want.
(20:42):
It is your drink.
Use whatever you want.
And then the last thing is thatyou put a bottle of Corona Light
in there, or we use CoronaLight.
You can use regular Corona too,but again, we're trying to make
it a little lighter, a littlemore refreshing, but.
That is, it's so delicious.
It's so good.
It's so refreshing.
You know, it's enough alcohol init that, you feel good
(21:04):
afterwards, but you're notwasted, which is what we want.
So a few little tips to get youready for football season and
get you ready for tailgating.
Some of these things maybe arecommon sense, but I just wanted
to share them because it isthings that we have learned over
the years.
Number one, go to Sam's if, Ishould say if you are planning
(21:24):
on.
Attending or cooking formultiple tailgating sessions or
football parties throughout theseason.
Then go to Sam's or Costco andpick up a thing of the foil
pans, whether it's the.
The smaller ones, the biggerones, that sort of thing?
Either one, both of them.
We have stacks of both usually.
(21:45):
And in addition to the pans, getthe lids that go with them.
Those lids are amazing.
They work way better thanregular aluminum foil.
Not only do they hold the sealon the pan way better, but it
makes it so that you can stackthings on top of one another.
If you just have regularaluminum foil and you try to
stack another pan on top of it,it's just gonna, crumble in and
it's gonna rip the aluminumfoil, that sort of thing.
(22:06):
Random tip here.
Also don't forget cutlery.
We have been at tailgates beforewhere nobody brought any
cutlery, nobody had any forks, spoons, anything like that.
Again, go to your favoritewarehouse store and pick up a
big container where they have, Idon't know, hundreds or a
hundred or a couple hundred offork spoons and knives.
(22:30):
I can guarantee that you will gothrough all of your forks and
you will have barely made a dentin your spoons and your knives.
But then the next time you justpick up forks, you don't have to
pick up all of them, but youwanna make sure that you have
any cutlery available that isnecessary in addition to just
regular cutlery that you eatwith.
You wanna make sure that youhave serving spoons or serving
utensils.
(22:50):
'cause the thing that you don'twant.
At a large group tailgate is forsomebody to be eating off of
their fork or their spoon, andthen they go to get more food
and they put that utensil thatthey just had in their nasty
mouth and putting it into foodto scoop up more.
That's just gross, and so youwanna make sure that you have
extra serving spoons.
(23:14):
My recommendation is head downto the dollar store.
They have all sorts of lovelyserving utensils there.
We go through several a yearthat end up either accidentally
getting thrown away or somebodyelse takes them home, or they
sat too close to the grill andthey melted.
All sorts of things.
So go there, grab cheap servingspoons.
(23:37):
Also, you wanna make sure thatyou have paper towels, wet wipes
for your hands.
You wanna have Clorox wipes orwhatever cleaning wipes that you
feel are necessary to clean upyour tables because.
People spill crap all over theplace and it just gets gross.
And also make sure that you havehand sanitizer so people can use
that.
Where we are, you can walk downto an actual bathroom where they
(24:00):
have running water and all thatsort of things, but sometimes
that's closed or sometimesyou're in places where you don't
have that.
So making sure that you havehand sanitizer.
We are looking at possiblyupgrading and actually have a
hand washing station, one ofthose camping type of things,
but.
Fingers crossed, we have to findone.
We gotta find a good deal onone.
So if anybody knows a good dealon a hand washing station,
please DM me.
(24:22):
So that was just a little bit ofsome of the news and things that
are going around the league.
I just wanted to share with yousome of my favorite tailgating
food and recipes and experiencesI will have on our website.
Some of the recipes that I usefor some of the food items that
I mentioned, or the Margaritarecipe.
(24:42):
Again, with these things keep inmind, measure with your heart
with it.
A recipe is a guideline.
It is not set in stone.
Okay.
But additionally on our website,we also will have the link for
the Fantasy Football Playbook.
So if you're still looking forsome tips and tricks on drafting
and preparing for your FantasyFootball league, you can pick up
(25:05):
that free download there, or youcan even.

learn a little bit more andwe'll walk you through it.
It's free to join we're gonnahave some prizes, but just low
drama and low pressure just tohelp you learn a little bit more
(25:27):
and help you understand footballand grow your love for football.
So I am excited about that.
Next episode, we are gonna talka little bit more about some of
the things that are happeningthroughout the training camps
and from the games.
By the time I record next, allthese first.
Preseason games will be donewith, so we'll be able to talk a
little bit more about whathappened in those.
(25:49):
We'll start talking about someof these predictions for week
one, when the actual seasonstarts.
Preseason games are great, butthey really don't mean anything.
A lot of times the starters arenot even getting dressed.
So they really can't be a trueprediction of what's gonna
happen throughout the season orhow good a team is gonna be
throughout the season.
But you start to see.
(26:09):
Some trends and you start to puttogether who's gonna make the
team and who surprises people, and it helps you start to make
some of those predictions forweek one.
And later on throughout theseason we'll talk some more
about some tailgating ideas andwe're even gonna start talking
about some outfit ideas and somefashion.
As much as it is a great time towatch the game, you wanna look
(26:30):
good doing it right ladies?
So we're gonna get some ideasabout some fashion things and
some great places to find someof the, standard football
outfits and the team attire, butalso some of the other.
Fun outfits that ladies puttogether.
Try to look super cute.
It's always more fun then.
I wanna thank y'all for joiningme again for huddles and heels.
(26:52):
I will see you next time, butfor now, wear your heels.
Rock the jersey, and don't beafraid to yell at the tv.
Bye ladies.
