All new Husky Talk- SNS with former UConn Football star Defensive tackle, Captain Sean Mulcahy. We played together in NFL Europe and he participated in several NFL training camps.
Sean and I go over the NFL 2025 schedule, especially for our NY Giants. It will be a rough road as they play the NFC North and AFC West teams. Plus, their own conference, the NFC East, we are concerned they could bomb and have a 3-win season. If they get some real production out of their QB play, I think they have a chance to win more games. Russel Wilson is capable if we keep him upright, the running game is great with Tracey and Cam, defense should be tough with an aggressive pass rush.
We also discuss the Cincinatti Bengals and DE Trey Hendrickson's situation. Sean is very familiar with this franchise as he suffered a career ending injury. Normally, you are released with an injury settlement, Sean was just dumped on the curb. He appealed this to the NFL board, which consisted of commissioner Roger Godell, along with Bengals executive vice president Katie Blackburn.... his three appeals were all denied!
Trey Hendrickson is a good man and a top talent as an Edge player. He led the NFL last season with 17.5 sacks and took a short-term extension on his contract because Cincinatti promised to extend him after the season. While guys like Max Crosby and Micah Parson received new deals ranging from 30 to 40 million a year, Trey's negotiations have stalled. He received a text from Head Coach Zac Taylor that he needed to come to the office in Cincy for a meeting. Trey was optimistic a new deal may have been reached, or they were close to one.
Wrong, wrong, wrong, in an inexplicable, unprofessional move, Bengals staff and front office met with him. The outcome was Coach Zac Taylor reminding Trey he was under contract for this season and if he missed any part of mandatory minicamp, he would be fined. Hendrickson was floored; they made him fly in from Florida to essentially tell him something he already knew, or could have said in a phone call. With minicamp a month away, it also gave him the impression a new contract was not in the works.
Trey Hendrickson is a top-level player, hard worker, solid teammate, never causes drama, occasionally talks to the media and is well spoken when he does. On a golf cart after his meeting, he stopped to talk to reporters, which was totally uncharacteristic. He was shocked by what happened and felt it was a purposeful attack by the organization. While QB Joe Burrow, WR's Ja'Maar Chase, and Tee Higgins all received big extensions, Hendrickson was left out in the cold.
Sean said this is par for the Bengals who are a dumpster fire of a team. Taking advantage of a nice guy that believed them when he was told an extension would come after the season. He preferred to keep the situation personal, and he was frustrated by the lack of communication. The best quote was when he said some shark attacks are not provoked while there are shark attacks that are provoked. Hendrickson definitely believed Cincinatti intentionally are coming after him.
Sean and I talk about this outrageous situation. Some say his age is the factor because he is 30, but when we looked at the contracts of the highest paid Edge players, Hendrickson was in line or younger than most. Incredible how they took advantage of a guy on their own team, being dishonest and flat out disrespectful. Sean said that is how the Bengals operate, and it will never change! Hilarious episode!
