Brittany (00:00):
Hey mama.
(00:03):
Welcome to the Inside Out Mamaspodcast.
I'm Brittany Turley, mom of six,and I know what it's like to
feel stuck and overwhelmedtrying to be the perfect mom,
but everything changed for mewhen I learned that small
changes on the inside can bringbig results on the outside.
Each week I will share simple, yet powerful inside shifts or
(00:25):
outside tips that can transformyour approach to mothering,
helping you thrive from theinside out.
Ready to ditch the mom guilt andenjoy this season of life.
You are in the right place.
This week for part five of oursummer series, we're gonna talk
about why negative emotions areessential.
(00:48):
What would life look like if youfelt less, but also loved less?
Laughed less and cared less.
In part three of my summerseries, I mentioned the book,
the Giver by Lois Lowry, andjust in case you didn't hear
(01:09):
that one, it's a fiction bookthat's set in a future society
and they've decided that they'regoing to eliminate all pain,
suffering, war, and.
Enforce the rule of sameness.
So there's no colors, no music,no deep feelings, and no
memories of the past.
They live in this reallycontrolled society.
(01:30):
when they reach the age of 16,everyone's given a role to do
and they just carry out theirlife and they don't have to
think much and they don't feelhardly anything.
When the main character Jonasturns 16, he's selected to be
the next receiver of memory.
So he is the one personentrusted to hold all the past
(01:55):
memories.
And his mentor was the giver, transfers these memories to
Jonas through touch and asJonas.
Begins to feel for the firsttime.
And spoiler alert for the bookas he goes through this
transformation of becoming thenext giver and receiving all of
(02:15):
these memories and feeling allof these emotions, he realizes
what they have sacrificed in thename of peace.
And he chooses to riskeverything to bring the feelings
back to the community.
And that means that he has toescape the community, um, and go
(02:36):
into the real world.
And as he begins to escape, hestarts to experience what real
life feels like.
He starts to feel hunger andcold and tired, but at the same
time, he also experiences hope.
And beauty and love, this bookreally demonstrates the
(02:58):
importance of feeling all of theemotions.
Our society.
We kind of label emotions aspositive emotions and negative
emotions, and I think that'smostly because when we feel a
so-called negative emotion, it'sa signal that we need to stop
doing that something or get awayfrom that thing or.
To change course.
(03:21):
And when we feel the so-calledpositive emotions, it encourages
us to go towards something, butif we only had these positive
emotions, we wouldn't reallyeven know we were having a
positive emotion because.
What makes the positive emotionsfeel so amazing is that we have
felt the negative ones.
(03:42):
When we have felt scared andthen come around to feeling
peace again.
That peace feels so much betterand more full than it did before
because we now have this scaredmoment to compare it to.
We know how good abundance feelswhen we have been lacking and
(04:02):
felt scarcity.
So it's the contrast of emotionsthat really help us understand
and feel the so-called positiveemotions.
Negative emotion also servesanother purpose.
When we feel negative emotion,we know that that's not
something that we want and thatgives us good information to
(04:25):
help us figure out what we dowant.
Now because I believe smallchanges on the inside bring big
results on the outside.
Each week I'm going to give youa small change challenge,
something small you can dothroughout the week if you
choose, that could end upbringing big results to your
life.
So the small change challengefor this week is to answer this
(04:48):
question for yourself.
What would my life look like ifI felt less, but also loved
less, laughed less and caredless?
And really think about what yourlife would look like.
What thinking about thisquestion has done for me, has
helped me realize how importantnegative emotions really are
(05:12):
because when I'm feeling thatnegative emotion and then I come
around and feel the positiveemotion, I appreciate it so much
more because of the contrast.
Now I named this podcast whyNegative Emotions are Essential
and a pause because this will bemy last podcast for a little
(05:33):
while.
I will be taking a pause for aseason.
I've decided that I need to havea pause right now to focus on
other areas.
I hope that you enjoy the restof your summer and remember
small changes on the inside, bring big results on the
outside.
Thank you for joining me foranother episode of Inside Out
(05:54):

of peace, confidence, and joy inyour mama journey.
