Brittany (00:00):
Hey mama.

(00:03):
Welcome to the Inside Out Mamaspodcast.
I'm Brittany Turley, mom of six,and I know what it's like to
feel stuck and overwhelmedtrying to be the perfect mom,
but everything changed for mewhen I learned that small
changes on the inside can bringbig results on the outside.
Each week I will share simple, yet powerful inside shifts or

(00:25):
outside tips that can transformyour approach to mothering,
helping you thrive from theinside out.
Ready to ditch the mom guilt andenjoy this season of life.
You are in the right place.
Today I wanna talk about thepower of looking back.
Now.

(00:45):
Often people will say it's nothelpful to be past focused and
living from our past.
And I agree with thiswholeheartedly.
I think the past is not a placethat we need to go back and live
in, nor is it a place that weshould go vacation in.

(01:06):
But I do think it is helpful toglance back at, our past, to
give us better perspective ofwhere we were and how far we've
come to help remind us of thethings that we have accomplished
to help us see how we've gainedstrength, how we've gained

(01:26):
skills, and to help motivate usforward more because we can see
the growth.
I find that this is usually thecase with things that are
frustrating me.
For example, one of my currentfrustrations is not being able
to go out and go for a full run.

(01:49):
I see other runners out thereand I just wish that I could go
running.
I, every time I see one, Ithink, oh, you don't even know
how lucky you are.
I wish I could be doing that.
Because I am currently walkingand sometimes adding in a
running interval of one minute.
So I'll walk for five, run forone, walk for five, run for one.

(02:12):
And it is terribly frustratingfor me because I want to run so
badly.
Running has always beensomething very therapeutic for
me.
I.
Need it mentally.
I love it physically.
I love being outside.
I love the rhythm of it.
It's always something that hashelped me stay grounded and

(02:36):
giving me energy.
I really miss some good cardioand I was in a space the other
day when I was doing my walking, running intervals and I was just
feeling really frustrated.
And luckily I had the thought tolook back and looking back at

(02:59):
this time a year ago, I was insuch.
Bad back pain that even walkingslowly hurt.
In fact, I was always in painunless I was sleeping.
And being able to remember that, that now I'm in a space where my
back doesn't hurt as often and Ican walk actually at a pretty

(03:24):
fast pace without pain and I canrun a little bit and I'm working
up very slowly to running more.
It helped my mind refocus on myprogress.
Instead of just stewing infrustration and wishing things
were different.
I was able to see, wait aminute, things are different.

(03:47):
I have forgotten how bad it was.
It was really bad.
I was in so much pain all thetime.
And slowly as I've been doingweightlifting and some physical
therapy.
I have been able to make slowprogress on my pain and I'm to

(04:07):
the point now where I can dothese walk one minute run
intervals without pain andremembering that helped me feel
so much more peace.
It's so easy to stay infrustration when we don't look
back and gauge and see howthings are different from where

(04:30):
they were, and see our progress.
This is also so helpful as wetry to help our kids work to
learn skills that they want orneed.
I was reminded of this the otherday also, when I was able to
look back and see how far one ofour children had come and a
skill they are working on.
It was easy to get stuck in thefact that they're not where they

(04:51):
wanna be or where we would likethem to be.
But when I look back andremember where we were and see
the progress, it really justmelts away the frustration
because then I'm focused on thegrowth that has happened or the
change that has been madeinstead of what is still
lacking.

(05:12):
Now because I believe smallchanges on the inside bring big
results on the outside.
Each week on my podcast, I'mgoing to give you a small change
challenge, something small youcould do throughout the week if
you choose, that could end upbringing big results to your
life.
So the small change challengefor this week is to think of one
thing that is frustrating you orweighing you down.

(05:34):
Then take a glance back sixmonths or a year and see what
progress you have made in thisarea, or what progress your kids
have made in this area.
Refocus your mind on that growthand feel the frustration melt
away as you give moreperspective to how far you or

(05:54):
your kids have come.
And let that feeling motivateyou forward as you continue to
grow and work towards the thingyou're working on.
Remember, small changes on theinside.
Bring big results on theoutside.
