Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey everybody, and welcome, thanks for joining me today. You
know I said this last time, but it's something about springtime.
It really just it elevates your mood. The flowers aren't
even blooming yet, but the weather's getting nicer, the days
just got longer, so it's it's amazing everybody's in a

(00:21):
better mood. That people are smiling, people are outside. It's
really just kind of you know what we've been waiting
to get to. No more hibernating in our houses, watching
TV all day and dreading having to take the dog
for a walk and the cold weather and all that
kind of stuff. You know, so you know what else
is absolutely amazing in the spring. Jacksonville, Florida is absolutely amazing.

(00:48):
You know, it's warm, the flowers are everywhere. We talked
about you know, Riverfront Park. We're going to talk about
that some more right now, but the waters everywhere. It's
a beautiful city. It's a huge, huge, as far as
you know, square miles ago, it's absolutely huge. But this
is a beautiful city with really really friendly people. So

(01:11):
you're obviously listening to this because you're interested in Jacksonville
and maybe taking a little trip down there, or maybe
you're a local just looking for some new things to
do and kind of get back to what you used
to do. So that's what I want to talk about
today is riverfront parks and a little recreation. See that
was my major in college was Parks and Recreation and
Tourism management. They called it like p RTM and then

(01:34):
they would say party right through may. Well, you know,
it wasn't quite that easy, but I definitely got something
from it. And it was it was at Clinton and
there was a great it was a great program prt
in program. So anyway, but from the River Walk, the
vibrant pulse of Jacksonville's riverfront unfolds. I mean it unfolds

(01:54):
just with amazing parks and recreational spaces designed to eight
or two diverse interests and abilities. The Riverwalk itself, a
paved pathway stretching for miles, serves as the central artery,
connecting numerous parks and offering stunny views of the Saint
John's River for walkers and bikers. The smooth, well maintained

(02:17):
path provides a leisurely route perfect for soaking in the
scenery and enjoying the fresh river air. And you're outside
doing something right, you're not just sitting on the couch
eating chips and pizza and watching the news or binge
watching something on Netflix. So that there are benches strategically
placed along the route offer a rest for those needing

(02:42):
a moment to just kind of sit down and reflect,
while the abundant shade provided by the mature trees lining
the path makes it even makes it even the hottest
days comfortable for strolling. The accessibility of Riverwalk is noteworthy.
It's designed to be wheelchair accessible throughout its length, ensuring

(03:04):
everyone can enjoy this beautiful waterfront promenade. Among the many
parks nestled along the river Walk, Friendship Fountain is a
particular standout. This iconic landmark, whether it's choreographed water displays
synchronized to music, offers a truly captivating spectacle. The fountains,

(03:25):
graceful jets, and shimmering water create a mesmeri mesmerizing visual experience,
particularly at night when the lights illuminate the water, adding
a touch of magic to the atmosphere. Think about Las
Vegas at night on the Strip and all of those
huge I don't know, retention ponds, ponds whatever, with all

(03:48):
of the fountains and everything and all lit up is amazing.
Surrounding the fountain are well maintained lawns, perfect for relaxing, picnics,
or simply enjoying the view. The area is popular a
gathering spot for locals and tourists, often hosting events and festivals.
Ample seating surrounds the fountain, making it easy to find

(04:11):
a spot to watch the show. Families frequently gather here
to enjoy the spectacle, and its central location makes it
easy easily accessible to visitors exploring the downtown area. Just
a short walk from Friendship Fountain lies Metropolitan Park, a
sprawling green space that offers a wide array of recreational opportunities.

(04:35):
Boasting extensive walking trails that wind through lush landscaping, Metropolitan
Park provides a tranquil escape from the city's bustle. These
trails as are well maintained and offer various levels of difficulty,
catering to both leisurely strolls and more strenuous hikes for

(04:55):
those seeking a more active experience. The park also features
Escape Park. That's where I'm going to be mean, I'm
going to be skating, yeah, and then I'm going to
end up in the hospital, providing a haven for skateboarding
enthusiasts of all skill levels. I don't even have a
skill level the parks, I mean, I outgrew that a
little long time ago. The parks dedicated. Isn't it funny

(05:20):
how you can be so good at something as a kid,
you know, say, like anywhere from you know, ten to fourteen,
fifteen years old, and you can do anything on the skateboard,
and then you come back twenty years later and just
the thought of standing on it not moving is more
than you can handle. So if that's the way your
brain works, just don't get on it twenty years later,

(05:41):
all right, leave it to the kids. So anyway, where
skateboarding is designed to accommodate various skill levels and styles,
families with young children will appreciate the playground, equipped with
modern and engaging play structures that cater to a different
different age groups. The playground is designated to encourage a

(06:03):
matginative play and elements that stimulate creativity and physical activity.
That's what I need in my life. Beyond the traditional
recreational features, Metropolitan Park also offers unique experiences. The park's
location on the river bank provides access to kayaking and
canoeing opportunities, allowing visitors to explore the river from a

(06:25):
different perspective. Several outfitters offer kayak and canoe rentals right

well maintained gardens, which offer visitors an opportunity to appreciate
the beauty of nature. The gardens and beautiful design and

(07:06):
offer a variety of plants flowers, providing a tranquil setting
for contemplation. Can also do a little bird watching. You
can look for butterflies and I love butterflies. By the way,
moving further along the river walk, the one encounter's scenic
expanse of Riverfront Park. This park is particularly appealing due

(07:27):
to its expansive open space, perfect for leisurely picnics, kite flying,
or simply enjoying the panoramic views of the Saint John's River,
maybe a little pickup game of touch football. The park
offers ample space for relaxation and recreation. The vast open
lawn is ideal for picnics and outdoor games, and its
proximity to the river provides a picturesque backdrop for any

(07:51):
outdoor activity. Families often gather here for picnics, celebrations, and
spacious layout accommodates many activities those looking to enjoy the water.
Riverfront Park boasts a designated area for fishing, providing the
opportunity to cast align and enjoy the tranquility of the river.

can comfortably navigate the park. The designated accessible parking spaces

(08:35):
are conveniently located near the park's entrances, making it easy
for those with mobility challenges to access the park's amenities.
