Speaker 1 (00:04):
Welcome to the Join
the Movement podcast with
Cohesive Movement Center, whereaerial athletes train, inspire
and push the limits of movement.
Hosted by Coach Jill Atkinsonand Coach Rosie Wandel, we dive
into the art, science andpassion behind aerial training.
Whether you're a seasonedathlete or just starting your
(00:24):
journey, we're here to lift youhigher.
Let's get moving.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Not all aerial
studios are created equal.
Some focus on tricks, some ontechnique and some just on
looking cool for Instagram.
So what sets Cohesive MovementCenter apart?
Coaches Jill Adkins and RosieWandell share what makes their
coaching unique and why theirstudio is more than just a place
to hang around.
Welcome back everyone.
(00:58):
I'm Profia Yvette, globalScience Producer, back in the
studio with coaches Jill Adkinsand Rosie Wandell.
Jill and Rosie how's?
it going.
It's going pretty well.
Thank you so much for having us.
We appreciate you, Of course.
So Jill and Rosie.
What makes Prohesive Momentsdifferent from other aerial
(01:18):
studios?
Speaker 3 (01:20):
So what makes us
different and sets us apart is
that we are a membership in a bymembership, a true membership
based training facility.
We are a training center, weare not a studio, and so that is
the main difference is whatmakes us different from studios.
General studios in this areaare class-based, so you sign up
(01:41):
for your class, you go in, youtake said class and then you
leave.
Our model is very different.
So you are actually a memberfirst, so you have access to our
studio space which I shouldn'teven say studio space, I do it
all the time Our center, training center, our training
center, for 16 and a half hoursper day.
So this is what makes usdifferent is that you have a key
(02:01):
card and that key card lets youhave access to our space for 16
and a half hours a day, whichis comparable to what our
community is familiar with as aterm of open poll.
We're basically an open pollfacility for 16 and a half hours
per day and that equates, basedon our membership, of $2.99 per
(02:24):
month currently to $1.50 anhour.
So basically, you're renting aspace for $1.50 an hour.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
And we're also going
to be offering foundational
training courses, and afterthose courses are going to be 90
minutes, no, and 75 minutes, and after that you're able to
stay and those foundationaltraining courses are included in
your membership fee.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
In a traditional
local studio space, you would be
paying for said courses as amember.
Here, you actually are able tocome in and go as like, but
you're also able to take ourfoundational training according
to your level, base and whereyou are in your journey, and
you'll also have access tothings here, such as an actual
formal gym.
(03:09):
We do have a full gym space inhere.
We also have a competition roomset up that is set up
specifically for competitioncircuit, and we also have a
post-hab rehab stretching roomthat allows you to decompress.
Lastly, we have a supplementbar, and that supplement bar
includes first form products forpost-training to keep you
(03:33):
recovering faster and also tohelp you stay consistent with
your journey.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
So Posh's, jill and
Rosie, how does your approach to
training differ from otheraerial studios in terms of
technique and safety?
Speaker 3 (03:50):
So we are different
with regard to technique and
safety because we're bridgingthe gap of the community in
itself.
You see, on social media, people doing hard things, media
people doing hard things A lotof our aerialists in our local
area muscle their way into saidhard things without the
foundations first.
(04:10):
So we are helping you to buildfrom the ground to the air those
foundational needs that aremissing in the community to get
to those harder things in a safemanner, with the proper muscle
building in order to get you tothe hard things in a safe manner
.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
And what kind of
community culture have you built
at Cohesive Moment Center andwhy is that so important for
students?
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Well, we feel it's
very important in the community
for us to work together with.
We've actually currentlyreached out to all the studios
letting them know we want towork with them.
We want everyone in ourcommunity to know they can go to
another studio, learn differentgenres of different aspects of
pole.
We are here to have them tocome to do their training after,
(05:04):
because in a regular studio, aswe said, they're in and out,
usually 65, 70 minutes and theydon't have time to train and a
lot of people can't train athome and they don't have time to
train and a lot of people can'ttrain at home.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
That is one of our
visions of why we want to open
up this space for them and tobring the people that if you
want to come and you and yourfriend are at a studio and you
join here, you can come togetherand you can be here for as long
as you choose and so thatcreates a community base of
being able to train with yourpeers, that may go to other
studios and have a communityspace, basically to come and
train together, to bring ourcommunities together, where you
(05:40):
may be training with somebody atyour local studio or perhaps a
local competitor, but you learnto create together to help each
other and that also builds goodsportsmanship which is very
important, a very big part ofcoaches jill and rosie.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
What specific
physical or mental do students
gain from training at yourfacility when they might not get
elsewhere?
Speaker 3 (06:04):
So what our student
base and our community base is
going to get here is qualifiedcoaches.
Rosie and I have two ends ofthe spectrum.
We both have a dance background, but we also both have a
different spectrum with regardto what we do in this community.
I am actually a coach coach, soI coach, I do choreography, I
(06:24):
help to build the skills.
I help to build from start tofinish what it takes to build
routines and how to also getpast the mental blocks of what
that entails.
We call that writer's block ifyou are a writer, but it's the
same thing and the same premiseas it relates to building
routines as a competitor and ora performer or anyone who's in a
(06:46):
performance setting.
It's definitely a thing thathappens here.
We also help people tounderstand the mental challenges
as it relates to inversion.
We call that upside down brainand as soon as you switch the
gears and feet go over the head.
There's also a fight or flightthat you have to train your
brain to understand that.
(07:06):
It's okay.
Rosie comes from a very medicalbackground.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
Yeah, that's my thing
.
I'm more of the medicalbackground, neuroscience, and
exactly what she's saying iswe're in helping people
physically and neuro,neurologically, getting them
through and what happens on theback end.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
That makes a very big
difference on what on a stage
and there is a lot of mentalpreparedness that goes into how
we get to that end result ofwatching the beautiful
(07:45):
performance on a stage orwherever that might be, maybe
just even on the Instagram, where you see the best run
through they had that day, andthat's what you get the results
of on social media, which isvery true.
A lot of people don't post theblooper reel or the reality of
what it really looks like totrain certain hard things, and
then you miss the point of yousee the end result but you don't
(08:08):
see what goes into it, how manyhours, how many months, how
many years it may take in orderto actually be able to do that
effectively, efficiently andsafely.
And what we do here is we startfrom the ground.
We start building thosefoundations that are needed as
far as muscles are concerned.
That's another reason why wealso offer cross-training here,
to be able to have both ends ofnot just building your skills,
(08:31):
but also building the musclesthat you need for those skills
here in our space.
Speaker 4 (08:35):
And that's where we
do performance coaching and any
post-hab that's needed,especially during competition
season.
Yeah, which is no one does that.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
And that is actually
in fact.
No one really does any post-hab.
They externally refer that out.
Externally refer that out.
We have the internal in-houseexperience here.
This is basically a one-stopshop for your aerialists to get
all of their training in onespace.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
Wow, it sounds like
you truly have the dream team.
Yeah, we do Love it.
Jill and Rosie, we'll catch youboth in the next episode.
Have a fantastic rest of yourday, thank you.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
Thank you Bye.
