Member’s often tell us that their interest in family history storytelling started when handling the photos, documents, and artifacts handed down by parents, grandparents, and ancestors.
Here at the Projectkin Community Forum, we have access to remarkable resources among our members including our “Cornerstone” Kathy Stone. Kathy distinguished herself as a Ponga member with her generous support of other members based on her experience as a professional photo organizer. She soon became an avid advocate and dear friend.
Today, Kathy’s turned her keen eye for photos and talents for organization to her own collection. In these sessions she shares her insights with us leveraging her “sort-first” strategy. You’ll find details about her approach in the “tubs-to-tales” post mentions in the video, now in the Projectkin archive:
Today’s program focused on questions submitted in answer to Kathy’s video post earlier this week. Much of the discussion centered on the challenge of preserving details on the backs of photos and linking that detail to the front of the photo as well. Companies mentioned included:
We also talked about practical solutions like naming strategies built into scanners or simple solutions like adding “_frt” and “_bk” to relevant photos. Below is the transcript of the chat session during the recording.
Tap the word “Transcript” at the top of this post to search the recording by topic. Tapping on any paragraph takes you to that section of the recording for playback.
Just near the end a question came up about file systems both on computers and in physical form. Kathy suggested that might be better as a topic for another day. If you have a question for Kathy Stone, ⏎ tap her name to go to her subscriber page on Substack, then tap Message.
If this was forwarded to you, take a moment to join us. It’s free. All we need is the address and we’ll include you in the next post. 👋
These programs are held monthly, and we hope to see you at the next one. The full calendar of events is at Projectkin.org/events.
(Note that going forward all events will be held over Zoom and we’ll use standard Zoom email mechanisms to capture registrations and offer you a tool to add events to your calendar. Events are still free and recordings will be emailed to all members from the Projectkin.org/forum.)
We’re working hard to keep Projectkin.org content and programming valuable — and free — even as we support each other as family historians. If you like what we’re up to here at Projectkin, feel free to share it with your friends and family. We’d love to welcome them to Projectkin too. 👋
