Speaker 1 (00:00):
I touched on it a little bit when I talked
about AHH.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Holmes and how he would literally sell people's corpses.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
Can you imagine today if you killed someone, somehow got
their skeleton out of their body and then brought it
to a medical institution, they'd look at you like they'd
call the police.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
Yeah, they'd be like where did you find this?

Speaker 1 (00:15):
But back then they're like, ooh, sweet deal.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
I'll take it, no questions asked. Here's your money to
have a nice day, dude.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
People with fake deaths, oh take up fake people take
out fake insurance policies. So insurance schemes were like the thing. Hey, guys,
welcome back to my channel.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Today.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
I'm going to be telling you guys all about the
famous murder of Johnny VERSACEI it's a very very interesting story,
a lot of mystery to it. There's a serial killer involved,
so let's just get right into it.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
So.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Johnny Varsaci was born on December two of nineteen forty
six in Italy. He actually came from a designer family.
His mom was a famous dressmaker. When he was twenty
six years old, he moved to Milan and he did
some other type of work with a couple of other brands,
but eventually, in nineteen seventy eight, he launched his own
collection for women, and then in September of nineteen seventy eight,

(01:08):
he launched his first men'swear collection. And what was kind
of special and unique about Versace part of the reason
why he was so successful. Not only were his designs incredible,
although I have to say I do not understand high fashion,
he was very, very successful and considered to be basically
an artist. And he was one of the first designers
to start inviting celebrities to sit at the front row
of his shows.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
And it's kind of the way that influencers work with
brands today.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
VERSACEI kind of started that with celebrities and his clothing
built this relationship with them, and he became super famous.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
He became a celebrity.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
He's like drink fresh water.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
I love my work. I'm playing with my work, and
then I like to design it, not just for fashion.

Speaker 5 (01:49):
I designed a lot for theater to wayador and also
for rock musicians.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
And within ten years of starting, Versace had created a
fashion empire worth eight hundred million dollars. Later in his life,

(02:14):
he developed a rare type of inner ear cancer and
he almost died. He had to take two years off
of working for his company, and he had just actually
recovered from that, and his last fashion show was a
week before he died. He presented his final collection at
the Ritz Hotel in Paris, and Naomi Campbell and Aaron
O'Connor were one of the two supermodels who walked in
his final presentation.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
At the time of his death.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Forsthought, she was living in Miami, and he loved Miami
because if you've ever been to South Beach, Miami, you
know why someone would love it.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
It is one of my favorite places to visit.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
I have family there, so I've been to South Beach
quite a few times. There is such an exciting party scene,
a huge gay community, so it was perfect. He absolutely
loved the high energy, positivity, good vibes.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Judgmental atmosphere.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
It was just like the perfect place to be and
it was gorgeous, high end fashion. It was just like
the perfect place for him to settle down, and so
he actually.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Bought a huge house there.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
It was a waterfront property called cassu Cassuerna, also known
now as the Versace Mansion, and this place was lavish,
as fuck.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
It was so fancy.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
This was truly like a castle for the time he
lived in, like the most fantastical house. Like really, it
was so decorated. And Versacei loved his life in Miami.
He loved his house. He lived there with his partner
Antonio Dimico, and they had a great life. Versacei had
this routine of every morning, most mornings, he would go

(03:41):
out to this cafe near his house where they carried
newspapers from around the world, and he liked to get
the Italian newspaper. Since he was from Italy, he was
very well known around the community. People knew him and
respected him. But anyway, on July fifteenth of nineteen ninety seven,
it was sometime around eight am, he was just about
to go into his house. He was at the front gate,
he was literally unlocking it about to go in when

(04:04):
he was shot twice in the head. The first shot
was directly into his face at point blank range, and
the second shot went through his neck right.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Below his ear.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
So obviously, when you get shot in the head once,
it's not good, but getting shot in that area twice,
there's pretty much no chance of survival.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
So sadly, Gianni Versaci died that day.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
The police were called at eight forty five after his
partner Antonio heard the gunshots, got a sinking feeling and
ran out there and found his love of his life
dead laying there.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
And was weird enough.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
There was a dead bird along with him. A huge
scene formed. I mean, imagine how this would be today.
There were paparazzi everywhere, there were cameras, helicopters.

Speaker 5 (04:59):
Welcome back thanks. Pictures from Miami where the fashion designers
Jianni Versace has been shot dead outside his villa on
the Ocean Drive. These are the scenes where police are
now carrying out a huge operation to try to find
out any clues that might still be around in the area.
They're searching for a white man aged about twenty five.

(05:22):
This is not just a tragedy, but it is also
a great loss to our community and back to.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
The world murder in Miami.

Speaker 5 (05:30):
He was one of the world's most influential fashion designers.

Speaker 4 (05:33):
Gianni Versace was murdered in broad daylight this morning.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
And people saw this happen. This was in broad daylight,
eight forty five am. He lives on Ocean Drive, which
is the most popular road there.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
People on the beach.

Speaker 5 (05:46):
Everybody in Miami is converging on South Beach.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
When I arrived at the scene, it was like in
full chaos.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
People crying, There was people throwing flowers on the sidewalk.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
So it was medius.

Speaker 5 (06:00):
Janni Fersachi, he can run in, but he was away
like bed.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
This tall lanking man shot this soul man.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
It was definitely looked like execution style.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
It was one bullet in the head.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
And one man actually saw someone fleeing from the scene
and he chased him and he kept up with him
as long as he could until he got to a
parking garage. And the police ended up coming into this
parking garage and trying to find whoever did this. But
when they went up to the parking garage, they found
a stone truck close of the killer, the passport of
the killer, newspaper clippings of some other murders. He was gone, disappeared.

(06:38):
They had no idea where he was. Obviously, this is
not the best case scenario, but it's not the worst
case scenario either, because now they have this car and
all these belongings and they can put together a picture
of who this person was. And they discovered very quickly
that this was a man named Andrew Kunanan.

Speaker 5 (06:54):
Police say their main suspect is reputed serial killer Andrew Kunana.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
So let's rewind a little bit and talk about Andrew
Canannon because he is a very very interesting serial killer.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Andrew was a very spoiled child.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
His parents weren't extremely rich by any means, but they
gave up as much as they could for him.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
They bought him a sports card.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
He had the master bedroom growing up with his own bathtub.
He was treated as a prince as royalty, and he
had this attitude his whole life that he was better
than everyone else. And he was obsessed with becoming extremely
rich and living the most lavish lifestyle, having the best clothes,
having the best trips, food, everything.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
He wanted to live like a celebrity.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
There's a ton of information on him alone out there.
If you guys want a full video on him, give
this video a thumbs up and I just might do one.
He was also a gay man, and he after college
he was really living off of other wealthy gay men
and they were his sugar daddies. This is how he
got through a lot of his life, having people giving

(07:54):
him money and having people bringing him to fancy things.
He was always wanted to be part of this life
that he wasn't really a part of, but he in
his mind thought he was entitled to be part of
this life from the day he was born.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
I mean, this guy was completely.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
Narcissistic, a total sociopath, only cared about himself. In April
of nineteen ninety seven, something snapped in Andrew and he
decided to go on this road trip. And what people
didn't know around him is that this was going to
be basically a revenge trip, a road trip to go
and kill people who have wronged him in his life.
And his first stop was Minneapolis, and his first victim

(08:29):
was Jeffrey Trail, who was actually his close friend at
one point, possibly a lover. He was a former US
Naval officer and a pro pane salesman. At some point
they had an argument and Andrew beat him with a clawhammer,
brutally murdered this guy, wrapped him up in a carpet
in a rug, rolled him up, and stored him in

(08:52):
his other friend's apartment. And this apartment belonged to David Madson,
who was also his friend. And it's possible that this
was somewhat of a life triangle. That's the thing about
this whole case is there's a lot of unanswered questions
and people don't know exactly what happened. David Madson was
an architect, and we do know for a fact that
at one point he was Andrew's lover. They're not sure

(09:12):
exactly when he was killed, but his body was found
on the east shore of Rush Lake near Rush City, Minnesota,
on May third of nineteen ninety seven, and he had
gunshot wounds to his head and back. But what we
do know is that he had held David captive for
at least two days. Friends were trying to get a
hold of him frantically, and eventually he snapped and just
killed him.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
So then he.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
Decides to steal David's truck after killing him and Jeff,
and he drove all the way to Chicago and this
is where he killed a seventy two year old man,
Lee Meglin. We was actually a very rich real estate
developer and he was killed by Andrew on May fourth
of nineteen ninety seven. And by what he did to
this guy, you can definitely tell that he was seeking Riven.

(09:55):
He had been bound with the duct tape on his
hands and feet, and it was also wrapped around his head.
He was stabbed over twenty times with a screwdriver and
had his throat slashed open with a hacksaw. So pretty
violent and horrible murder.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
Police found the body of real estate developer Lya Miglin
in the garage. We are treating this case as i'm
a side, and the investigation is underwing.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
The FBI says Miglan and coonan and quote may have
met unquote, but that there's no known connection.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
So he decided to leave that scene, took Miglan's car.
He then headed to New Jersey and found his next
victim in a cemetery and he killed a forty five
year old caretaker named William Reese, and then stole his
red pickup truck. So then he drove to Miami and
he killed Versace. No one knows exactly why he killed Versace.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
That's the big.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Mystery is that we're not sure if there was some
type of relationship between them. It's very possible their paths
had crossed. In fact, most people think that at one
point they didn't know each other. Maybe he didn't know
him super well, or maybe he did we really don't know.
I mean, for him to seek him out to kill him,
and to kill a celebrity is pretty ballsy. So he

(11:05):
had been in Miami for days, watching Versace and timing
everything he did and figuring out when he normally left
the cafe and when was the best time to do it,
where was the best time to do it.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
And he obviously had no fear.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
It seemed like Andrew was pretty much planning to kill
himself either way, so he didn't care if anyone saw this.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
He didn't care about getting caught or getting away with it.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
And as Versace was coming into his house, he just
went up to him and shot him twice in the head.
So obviously there was a man hunt after this, because
now that Versace was murdered by this guy, now the
whole country is watching this whole thing go down. Obviously,
people outside of Miami and all of Florida and all
the country were looking for this guy. There was this

(11:55):
nationwide man hunt for him. They did an episode in
America's Most Wanted and he was also on the FBI
Most Wanted list. He had just been chilling in Miami,
hiding in plain sight, but then he did something really stupid.
He decided to pawn a coin that belonged to lee
man he had just killed. And when he did this,
he used his full name, a passport, a thumb print.

(12:17):
But he actually got away with this because the man
who reviews these pawn things was on vacation that week,
so he kept.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
Living in Miami for two months.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
When they finally got this information from the pawn shop,
they realized that he was using his real address, the
address of whatever hotel he.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
Was staying in in Miami.

Speaker 1 (12:35):
And so they went to this hotel and they had
just missed him, and they went into his room and
there was all these weird things belonging to him, and
boxes of haired eye and like random stuff everywhere, and
so they started looking for him, and then they got
this call that there was someone in this boat house.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
There's this famous houseboat.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
In Miami, and he snuck into it and there was
a shootout with police. Sadly for investigators, Andrew Canannon decided
to take his own life. And there are so many
questions that everyone had for him about why he did
this or or why he killed Versace specifically, and none
of those questions will ever be answered. And I think

(13:12):
that's how Andrew wanted this to be from the beginning,
that he'd always planned on having this be someome giant
mystery for people to untangle.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
And he had this narcissism about.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
Him where he just wanted to be famous, he just
wanted to be known as someone. And they found him
with all of these newspaper clippings about how he was
the Versace killer, and he was clearly.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
Totally eating this shit up. So that's really where the
story ends.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
There's a lot more detail about Andrew that I think
I could seriously do a whole video on him, because
he's just so fascinating alone. But it's incredibly sad what
happened to Versace. I mean, he was a fashion icon.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
It's so unfair. It's not fair.

Speaker 5 (13:52):
How did you get the news?

Speaker 2 (13:53):
How did you learn of his death? Yesterday?

Speaker 4 (13:57):
I was sad driving to Rome to go to work
for Johney. He was a very modest person in terms
of he would walk around the street by himself. He
would never think that he needed a bodyguard or anything
because he's you know, he's going everywhere on his own.
He's very generous. It's been very low to everybody. His
hospitality extends more than anyone I've ever met.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
Milan's magnificent Gothic Cathedral was the setting for the service.

Speaker 4 (14:22):
Diana, Princess of Wales, was a friend of Gianni Versarche's
as well as a devoted follower of his fashions.

Speaker 3 (14:29):
Soousness respect oh.

Speaker 5 (14:41):
No, no, no, no, no, anybody.

Speaker 1 (14:45):
He left such a lasting impact on the fashion world
and the gay community as well. There's a lot of
theories about how he possibly could have known Andrew Canannon
and the missing link between them, So if you have
any opinion on that, I'd love to know your opinion
in the comments. Do you have any guests for why
he chose VERSASCEI. Do you think they had a relationship?
Do you think it was something completely random? But that's

(15:07):
it for me today, Guys, if you are interested in this,
this actually is being made into a show right now.
I think it's already on in Ricky Martin's in it,
and it's supposed to be a really good show. So
I think I'm gonna give it a try and watch
it because this is such an interesting case and I
feel like a lot of people don't really know the
details behind everything.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
But that's it for me today. Guys, I hope you're
having a great day and I will see you next time.
