In this episode, we dive into practical tips for maintaining your weight and healthy habits while traveling—whether it’s for work or a vacation. When traveling, it's important to set healthy expectations—focus on maintaining your weight rather than losing it, and aim to enjoy yourself while keeping any weight gain to just a couple of pounds, embracing progress over perfection. Staying on track can be challenging when you’re away from home, but with the right mindset and preparation, it’s absolutely doable.
Here’s what we cover:
- Set Your Travel Intention: Before you leave, decide what your goal for the trip is—rest, family time, work conference? This helps you make more intentional choices around your health and wellness while still enjoying your trip.
- Staying Active: Pack workout gear, take advantage of hotel pools and gyms, and embrace walking as a way to explore new places. Whether it’s a bike tour or a morning run before a meeting, being active doesn’t have to feel like a chore.
- Mindful Eating: Savor your meals! Enjoy the local cuisine in moderation by eating slowly, sharing dishes, and opting for healthier alternatives like grilled or baked over fried options. And don’t forget to stay hydrated—bring a water bottle with you everywhere.
- Balanced Diet on the Go: Plan ahead by packing healthy snacks like protein bars, fruit, or nuts especially if you don't have control on what food will be available to you. This helps curb cravings and avoid unhealthy impulse choices. Use the 80/20 rule: stick to healthy options most of the time while allowing for indulgence.
- Buffets & Alcohol: Practice portion control at buffets— scan the buffet before grabbing a plate. Choose a smaller plate and fill it with veggies and lean proteins first. With alcohol, set a limit and alternate each drink with water to stay hydrated and avoid overeating.
- Stress Management: Bring your stress-relief habits with you—meditation, yoga, or pack a gratitude journal. Keep your sleep schedule in check to help manage hunger and cravings during your trip.
Tune in to learn how to travel without derailing your progress on your weight loss journey—these small changes can make a big difference in how you feel, both during and after your trip. Share your thoughts with us and subscribe for more insights!

Cardiac Cowboys
The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
