Welcome to Leaving a Legacy where we dive deep into God's word to find wisdom for today's world. Josh Thompson is the Pastor of Legacy City Church in Los Angeles, California. This is more than just a study it's a conversation with God's heart.
Lot lingered. His wife looked back. His family laughed. Still, God showed mercy. In ‘The Judge and the Savior’ from Genesis 19, we see that Lot wasn’t saved by his goodness. He was saved by grace. And God’s grace often reaches us when we need it most.
When a city turns from God, it doesn’t just fall. It brings destruction. In ‘The Judge and the Savior’ from Genesis 19, two angels arrive in Sodom and find a city lost in darkness. This account warns us what happens when truth is rejected and sin becomes the norm.
In ‘Wheeling and Dealing with God’ from Genesis 18, Abraham boldly pleads for mercy on behalf of a sinful city. Again and again, he asks, and God patiently listens. This passage shows us a God who cares deeply for people and invites us to intercede with compassion and faith.
Abraham takes a walk with the Lord and ends up in a remarkable back-and-forth conversation. In today's message, titled ‘Wheeling and Dealing with God’ from Genesis 18, we’ll hear what happens when a man boldly intercedes for a wicked city. This is a powerful glimpse into prayer, mercy, and the heart of God.
God is not distant or disinterested. In today’s message titled 'God Knows the Secrets of Our Hearts', Pastor Josh takes us to Genesis 18, where the Lord visits Abraham with a surprising promise. As the story unfolds, we’re reminded that God sees us fully and still draws near.
Even after our worst mistakes, God does not forget us. In ‘You Need a Reminder’ from Genesis 17, we see how the Lord changes Sarai’s name and renews His promise. The gift of a son is still coming, because God’s mercy does not depend on our performance, but on His perfect faithfulness.
Sometimes the most powerful thing God can give us is a simple reminder. In today’s message titled ‘You Need a Reminder’ from Genesis 17, we’ll hear how God lovingly repeats His promises to Abraham. Through name changes and covenant signs, the Lord calls His people to remember and trust what He has said.
God sees. God hears. And He saves. In Genesis 16, we meet Hagar, a hurting woman on the run, and witness the grace of a God who meets her in the wilderness. The message is called ‘Don’t Play Savior, That’s God’s Job’, and it shows how God meets us right where we are.
God’s promises don’t need our shortcuts. In Genesis 16, Pastor Josh shares how Abraham and Sarah’s impatience with God’s plan led to heartache. The sermon is titled ‘Don’t Play Savior, That’s God’s Job’, and it reminds us to trust God’s timing, even when waiting feels hard.
In today’s message, ‘The Undeserved Covenant,’ we turn to Genesis 15. God confirms his promise in a way Abraham never expected. While Abraham watches, God alone walks through the sacrifice, showing that this covenant depends fully on him, not on us.
God’s promises never fail, even when our faith feels weak. In today’s message, ‘The Undeserved Covenant,’ we turn to Genesis 15, where God responds to Abraham’s doubt with grace. When belief is hard, the Lord meets us with assurance that his word still stands.
Sometimes we offer God our best ideas for how He might keep His promises. In ‘Belief Is Simple, But Not Easy’ from Genesis 15, Abram does the same. But God responds with a promise that’s bigger than Abram imagined. He calls him outside and says, “Look at the stars.”
Faith can seem simple. Just believe. But when life delays our hopes or takes a turn, belief becomes hard. In today’s message titled ‘Belief Is Simple, But Not Easy’ from Genesis 15, we’ll watch God meet Abram in doubt and remind him that He Himself is the greatest reward.
Who is this king with no genealogy, no beginning, and no end? In Genesis 14, ‘Melchizedek: The King of Righteousness’ shows us a priest-king who points to Jesus. Today’s message reminds us we have a perfect mediator who stands between God and man.
Melchizedek appears as a mystery from heaven, with no beginning or end. In ‘Melchizedek: The King of Righteousness,’ we explore Genesis 14 and this powerful moment between two kings. It’s a picture of Jesus in the text, and of a God who meets us with rest after the battle.
The Bible’s first war appears in Genesis 14, but it’s more than a clash of kings. It’s a story of courage, grace, and family. In ‘General Abram: The Braveheart of God’ from Genesis 14, we’ll see how one man risked everything to rescue the undeserving and reveal the heart of Christ.
God had given Abram the land, but he didn’t cling to it. Instead, he offered Lot the first choice, seeking peace over possession. In ‘You Can’t Out Bless God’ from Genesis 13, we’re reminded that when we give what others don’t deserve, God gives even more than we imagined.
It’s one thing to be generous with a little. It’s another to give when it costs you deeply. In today’s message titled ‘You Can’t Out Bless God’ from Genesis 13, we’ll see how Abram shows radical grace and generosity to his nephew Lot and how God honors it in return.
‘The Father of Faith: Faithless’ brings us to Genesis 12, where Abram faces a crisis of faith. When famine strikes, instead of seeking God, he turns to deception. This story reminds us how quickly we drift and how deeply we need the Lord’s guidance and grace.
