Elevate Your Game

A rich childhood, a brilliant father who built success from nothing, and a daughter who never heard the word no—Rochelle’s story starts where many assume danger cannot reach. Then a charismatic man from two towns over rewired her beliefs about love, turned gifts into “proof” of hate, and pulled her away from everyone who could help. What follows is a blueprint of coercive control: sever the ties, move the city, change the number, assign crimes that poison the bridge back home. By 20, she knew she was being used, yet the trap felt inescapable.

We walk through the hard terrain her life became: arrests, sexual assault, beatings, STDs, kidnapping and torture. Rochelle names the street—the blade—and how it strips agency and trades on shame. In parallel, her family never stops searching. They hire investigators, talk to friends, chase every rumor. She hides in plain sight and laughs at their tears to survive the crushing weight of guilt and longing. The line that breaks the room arrives quietly: her father dies while looking for her. In the numbness of trauma, she frames it as deserved. Time, however, exposes that as armor, not truth.

This conversation isn’t tidy. It’s raw, grieving and brave. We unpack how grooming preys on generosity and naivety, why wealth doesn’t shield anyone from manipulation, and how shame becomes the currency of control. Rochelle doesn’t claim a neat ending; she pauses when the emotion floods and lets silence do the work. If you’ve ever felt owned by a story that wasn’t yours, or loved someone you couldn’t reach, there’s a waypoint here—language for what happened and a small light for what comes next. If this resonated, share the episode with someone who needs it, leave a review to help others find the show, and subscribe so you don’t miss what Rochelle chooses to speak into next.

Hey everybody, it's Rochelle, also known as Baby

(00:03):
Doll.
I wanted to come on andintroduce myself and give you a
little background on why I choseMaster Silk, or better yet, why
he chose me.
Alright, you heard about theNight China and I met Master
Silk.
If not, go back and listen tothe episode.
Pimps, players, and payback,China Doll ain't holding back.
The one you've been asking for.

(00:27):
Let's get it.
I came from a very wealthyfamily that began with
absolutely nothing.
Until my father started his ownconstruction company.
I was the only girl, and Iadmit, I was spoiled, rotten.
Even when my family couldn'tafford it, they made it happen

(00:49):
for me.
Then I had everything I everwanted or needed.
I would ask for things I didn'tneed just to see if I'd get it.
I would.
Growing up, there was nothing Ididn't have.
If I wanted it, I got it.

(01:10):
I met a guy two towns over thatconvinced me that my family
didn't love me.
And that they only bought methings to mask their hate for
me.
Deep down inside, I knew thatthey loved me.
But this guy was fine as hell.

(01:31):
So whatever he said, I believed.
I eventually realized I wasbeing used.
But by the time I was 20 andseveral new inexperienced YN
folks later, it was too late.
I eventually would never see myfamily again.

(01:51):
Not because I didn't want to.
And go back home because heowned me now.

(02:13):
He had me do things to try andruin my family's lives.
He had me lie on them to thepolice, go back when I knew they
weren't home and steal from themanything that he could sell.
It didn't work.
They thrived without me.
Yet they never stopped lookingfor me.

(02:36):
They always searched for me.
They'd hire countless privatedetectives, spoke with my old
friends.
They did everything to find me.
While I hid in plain sight.
When I heard they were missingme and crying over me, I
laughed.
I changed towns and phonenumbers constantly.

(02:56):
I was arrested, sexuallyassaulted, beat up and
contracted sexually transmitteddiseases.
I was kidnapped and tortured.
Whatever you can think of thatcould happen to a woman on the
blade happened to me.
But they still wanted theirlittle girl back home.
A few years after I had lefthome, I heard my father was

(03:16):
killed while searching for me.
He was at the wrong place at thewrong time looking for me.
Sad thing is, back then I reallythought that serves him right.
I still believe the way that mylife turned out was all his
fault.
I never even got to say goodbyeor tell him that I loved him.

(03:40):
Sorry for crying like this.
I'm sorry I have to stop fornow.
I had no idea this would upsetme so much.
I really thought I was over allof this.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
