Unconditional

I rarely meet people who believe in unconditional love. I never used to, until I changed my definition of love. It used to be solely based in action and thought. I think loving thoughts and this means I love, loving acts are performed for me and this means they love me.

But I know now that love is bigger than that. Love is freedom and love is knowing. To know someone used to love them, to really see them for who they are. And to give them the freedom to be who they are, even if who they are has done some terrible things.

The thoughts and the actions are irrelevant to love. Thoughts and actions only determine whose physical presence is allowed in our lives. But I don’t need to be anywhere near a person in bodily form to love them.

And my love is no benefit to anyone but me. but it is such a hefty benefit, I won’t let anyone else’s actions take it from me.
