Human Design offers a complex, logical, mechanical, objective and
sophisticated system forwitnessing the arrival, movement
and expression of energy, awareness and pressure through the
form of a human being in aconcrete and universal way. Human
design also offers a simple, somatic, experiential and deeply
(00:20):
personal tool for navigatingthe subjectivity of what we call
reality from the vantage pointof one human form. Type is a way
to reconcile these polarizingaspects of human design, its formidable

Welcome to the Living Your Desig Podcast. I'm your experimentor,
Kelsey Rose Tortorice. Thispodcast is an audio only release
of the full length in depthHuman Design Foundations course I've
been teaching over the lastseveral years. It is a no bullshit,
comprehensive, embodiedintroduction to the human design
system that will challengeyour ego mind and support you in
your process of reuniting withthe unique wisdom of your body. In
(01:27):
episode one, I speak a bitabout the process that led me to
releasing this course for freein podcast form and I offer a few
notes that might be useful tocontextualize and clarify what you'll
hear in this episode andbeyond. I recommend giving that short
intro episode a listen if youhaven't yet.

Thank you for tuning into mytransmission of Living Your Design
It's a deeply personal andsomewhat vulnerable share that I
feel honored, humbled andexcited to release into the world.
I hope that it helps youremember and come home to yourself.
(05:20):
In this unit we're going totake a look at aura type and the
strategy and themes that comewith it as a practical synthesis
to both the LYD materialcovered up to this point, so specifically
deconditioning and centerfunctionality as well as the knot
self. This synthesis of typeis also going to Many ways cover
(05:43):
much more minuscule, technical, advanced components of
the system that is humandesign. And I will say that authority
is also a part of thispractical synthesis. But authority
will be what we take a look atin the next unit. What we're going
to be looking at in this introto type, under the umbrella of this
concept of type being apractical synthesis are these four
(06:06):
sort of core components. Soone, we're going to talk about how
Ra, the messenger of humandesign was the 5:1. And just some
observations I've made aroundthe nature of the human design system,
as well as how he messaged itto us that I see as being correlated
(06:28):
to or very much demonstrationsof his five one profile. We'll talk
about this idea of ninepotential problems, four potential
solutions. We'll talk abouthow the synthesis of type encompasses
center, definition and muchmore. And we'll do a little bit that's
sort of an intro into the typevideos, the separate type videos
(06:51):
of this idea of life force andhow we engage with life force in
differentiated ways accordingto our aura type. But first according
to whether we have sacraldefinition or not. So for sacral
types, the generator, including the manifesting generator
versus the non sacral types, the Manifestor, the reflector and
the projector, how we orientto life force differently. So this
(07:16):
idea of ra being a 5:1, it'snot an idea, it's a fact. Ra was
a 5:1. Where I was first sortof struck by, by the evidence of
his profile and the characterrole that Rob played as a 51 in the
transmission of the humandesign system was when I was, I guess
(07:37):
it was a bit more of a slowtrickle than my mind is wanting to
remember it. But when I waslearning with Amy and John, there
were these references sort ofin passing that type came online
a little bit later. Typewasn't a part of the original download
or transmission that Rareceived in his eight day encounter
with the Voice. It came onlinea little bit later. And at that point
(07:58):
in my human design journey andmy education was interesting to me,
but there wasn't really spaceto consider that. However, a bit
later, when I was studyingwith Alok Alakanon Diaz, Aloq would
talk about it a lot becauseAloq was friends with Ra and studying
with Ra and learning humandesign from Ra before type was a
(08:22):
part of what R.A. wasteaching. And so I found myself in,
in presence with Alok and inmy experience of learning from a
Lock, I found myself reallyjust wanting to ask questions about
that. What was thattransition? Like why Did Rob bring
type in? And I, as Alokstarted to speak to it, he. He didn't
(08:43):
have a whole lot of specificanswers for me. But as he spoke about
his experience of thattransition and of Rob bringing type
in very quickly, I, as afellow fifth line personality, was
able to see that type andstrategy and authority and these
sort of summarizing ways ofdelivering and talking about and
(09:07):
mentally grappling with thehuman design system, which is so
complex and sointriintricatecated,wereatool.Theywereaveryfifthlinepersonality way
of conceptualizing all of thisstuff and offering it in a practical,
clear sort of package. Andwhen we think about the fifth line,
(09:30):
the fifth line is here todeliver a message so that it can
be heard and received as farand wide as possible. And one of
the things that a Locke kindof alluded to was this anger, I guess,
impatience. It's a bigmanifester theme that I am familiar
with and also can. Can see inthis sort of story that I'm speculating
(09:51):
on here based on what I'veheard in a fifth line manifesto such
as R.A. a lot kind of talkedabout R.A. being sort of like irritated
and impatient around why, whywon't people just get it? Like, he
had all this information, butpeople weren't getting it, people
weren't learning it. And sohis fifth line mind, his fifth line
personality over time came upwith or further channeled. It's kind
(10:18):
of unclear the extent to whichit was like, you know, raw formulating
after in a separate experiencefrom the voice. Or maybe there were
essences of that experiencewith the voice that. That remained
with him that were part ofthis conceptualization moving forward.
And a little note on that. RaUru, who. He changed his name after
(10:41):
that encounter with the Voice. And so he really talked about how
like his life was completelychanged. He wasn't the same person
anymore. So I'm. This is verymuch Kelsey speculation and Kelsey
conceptualization. But I seeit as. I see it as like everything
that came through Ra in all ofthe ways that he came up with these
(11:03):
teaching tools such as type, strategy and authority and. And these
other. He came up with a lotof teaching tools in the decades
that followed the encounterwith the Voice. And I sort of see
like whether or not it wasviscerally the case. I sort of see.
Personally, I sort of see itas like the voice became a part of
him and was a part of hisfuture development of these teaching
(11:25):
tools. So let me rein it backto this connection to the five one
here. The. The one beingUnconscious. One way to, to translate
this, a bit of anoversimplification, but one way to
translate this is that Ra'sbody as a vehicle was a first line.
And I know we haven't talked alot about first line yet in the,
(11:45):
in this course, but whatyou'll remember and what you may
know from your own explorationof the lines up to this point is
that the first line is veryinvested in taking in all of the
information, creating a solidfoundation of information. So I've
really come to see thisbringing in of the. The teaching
(12:06):
tool that is type andauthority and the strategy and themes
that go along with type as away of RA dealing with this massive
invasion of information thathe's. If you listen to him talk about
the encounter, he talks aboutthe. The information being like,
forced into the cells of hisbody. So that feels very first line
(12:28):
to me. The body justdownloaded or collected all of this
information, received all ofthis information, and then his fifth
line mind was left to try tomake sense of it, to conceptualize
it, but specifically tomessage it, to bring the heresy,
the message of all of thatinformation to the world. That's
the fifth line role, and inparticular that's the 5:1 role. So
(12:51):
as I started to ask A locksome questions about how was type?
How did type come in? What wasthat like? Was it channeled all these
things? You know, Alaq is afellow emotional manifestor. So like
me, he. He speaks in a prettyspiralic and storytelling kind of
way. But what I'm sharingtoday was sort of my what, what I
(13:13):
integrated from thatconversation. And A LOCK is in many
ways my most direct connectionto ra, I listen to source material
to RA on my own as well. Butwhen I get to engage with a lock,
and specifically when I get toask a lock questions out of my own
curiosity, like, how did typecome online? What was that like?
I get this other. This other, like, connection point to RA through
(13:38):
relationship, through myrelationship with a lock and his
with RA and my interactionswith a lock and his with ra. So I
just wanted to share that withyou because as you deep in your human
design studies and your humandesign awareness and human design
experiment, you will likelycome into many moments of wondering,
(14:01):
like, which components matternow and which components are rooted
in the mechanics and theinformation and which ones are sort
of like RA's spin on thisinformation or you're another teacher,
someone on the Internet spinbeen on this information. And what
I found through my own studyis that I specifically with ra, I'll
(14:28):
say There are a lot of thingsthat Ra will say that when I first
encounter it, sound likeprophetic. You know, they sound like,
what is this rooted in? Andover time, most if not everything
that I encounter, eventually Iunderstand it. And the way inspiring
not only understand it, butunderstand the way that it connects
(14:48):
to this system as a whole. AndI really kind of see that process
as Ra's dilemma. The firstline, body all this information,
and then the fifth line, mindtrying to figure out how to deliver
it in succinct and practicalways. And you see that all over the
place with RA's material andwith Jovian. But I've really come
(15:12):
to see type, strategy andauthority, these most practical tools,
as the main synthesis foreverything within the human design
system. So yeah, type comeswith strategy, it comes with the
aura, functionality, and itcomes with the themes. And each of
those three things are goingto be largely the focus of what we
(15:33):
cover in the videos to comeabout each of the four aura types.
And then type doesn't reallycome with authority. Your center
definition tells us both yourtype, which comes with strategy,
authority and themes, as wellas your authority. And certain types
can have certain authorities, but there's. There's a cross as well.
(15:55):
Like projectors andmanifestors can both be emotional,
splenic or ego. Projectors canalso have a couple of other authority
configurations thatmanifestors can't have. Only generators
can have sacral authority, butthey can also have emotional, like
projectors and manifestors. And then reflectors have their own
authority. So there's acorrelation between authority and
(16:17):
type, but not a direct. Not adirect correlation. I hope I'm using
that word correctly, butauthority will be in the next section.
This section is focusing onthe part of this practical synthesis
that is type and the strategyand themes that come with type. And
as part of my studies with aLock, I had to write a number of
(16:38):
essays. And one of the essaysthat I wrote was just on answering
this question, what is type? And it was through this process that
I really came to feel intowhat I sensed to be RA's dilemma
as a 5:1 with all thatinformation in his body, in his system,
and then the mind's intentionto. To message that information in
(17:01):
a practical way. And so on thenext few slides, I've just taken
a couple excerpts from thispiece that I wrote called what is
Type? The full essays on mywebsite. And just borrowing those
slides and borrowing thattext, I'll read these next few slides
and perhaps I'll expand onthem, but they're essentially a more
succinct way of saying some ofwhat I've said thus far. Human design
(17:23):
offers a complex, logical, mechanical, objective and sophisticated
system for witnessing thearrival of movement and expression
of energy, awareness andpressure through the form of a human
being in a concrete anduniversal way. So in this first sentence
I'm essentially talking aboutthe body graph, right? The centers
(17:45):
and everything we've talkedabout up to this point. Human design
also offers a quite simple, somatic, experiential and deeply
personal tool for navigatingthe subjectivity of what we call
reality from the vantage pointof one human form. Type is a way
to reconcile these polarizingaspects of human design. Its formidable
(18:05):
depth and complexity with itsaccessible simplicity, its logical
structure with its abstractand subjective application. Type
as this practical synthesistakes the incredibly intricate and
infinitely varied thing thatis the body graph and the human design
system as a whole anduniversalizes its application so
(18:26):
that it can be received andunderstood in a practical way by
as many people as possible whowish to experiment with it. Type
as a concept supports animmediate access point for the deconditioning
process that human design isall about. With awareness of type
alone, one can begin theprocess of coming home to self. The
deeper layers of human designcan be a part of this recalibration
(18:49):
on an energetic level withoutneeding to be intellectually understood,
as long as there is a basicawareness of type. So, for example,
I'm talking a lot aboutvariable right now, because that's
an aspect of human design thatI'm starting to really integrate
on a somatic level in my ownbody. But I can see how for the last
(19:10):
three and a half years thatI've been in my human design experiment,
even though I didn't reallytotally understand intellectually
or somatically, my variable,my shore, artificial shores, environment,
my peripheral power view, myfocused innocence, motivation, so
on and so forth. Throughexperimenting with my strategy and
(19:32):
my authority, I have been ableto attune to those parts of me. I
just maybe wasn't aware that Iwas doing it, or I didn't consciously
feel that part of theattunement happening. I couldn't
name it because I didn'tintellectually understand it. Now
as I'm integrating andunderstanding it, I can see that
my deconditioning process upto this point, just using the tools
(19:55):
of strategy and authority haveserved my calibration in according
to my variable as well. Andsame with things like channels and
gates, hanging gates, dormantpotentials. I don't have to understand
what all of My channels andgates mean I don't have to understand
necessarily some of these moreintricate things about circuitry,
(20:17):
like my tribal versus mycollective versus my individual,
or my red versus my black, ormy split definition versus my bridge.
I don't have to grapple withall of that because living my design
at the most basic level, following strategy and authority,
will calibrate me to all ofthose intricacies as well. So how
is type so powerful? Anawareness of one's type can have
(20:41):
this much impact because theconstruct of type takes into consideration,
holds and advocates for all ofthe other more dense, esoteric and
substantial aspects of humandesign, especially signature and
not self themes, strategy, definition, openness, and the reality
of a differentiated existencein general. I mean, really just beginning
(21:01):
to become aware of and witnessthe differences mechanically and
how the four A types movethrough the world. Even just that,
really integrating thedistinction between the four aura
types can be such a shatteringof the mind, of the homogenized mind's
way of thinking, that we alloperate the same. And that's just
(21:23):
at the type level. Underneaththe type level, there is infinitely
more differentiation. But typeis like the first tuning fork to
the many, many layers ofdifferentiation. Below that, type
is a synthesis for theentirety of the human design system.
It attunes you to your form, your definition, and your strategy.
(21:45):
And in doing so, it teachesyou how to surrender into passenger
consciousness by showing youhow your body already leads, the
rest follows. Experimentingwith type, strategy and authority
will lead you into awarenessand experimentation of the rest of
the system, if and when it'scorrect for you. So noticing in your
(22:07):
body what aspects of all ofthese. There's so much to study in
human design. There's ravecosmology, there's the changing of
the global cycles. There'svariable substructure, leftness and
rightness, red versus blackcircuitry. There's so much that you
can take in. And the mind inits own way for each of us is going
(22:29):
to try to distract you fromthe true process of shattering and
deconditioning with all of theinformation. Your strategy and your
authority are now these tuningforks, but also these accountability,
these personal accountabilitytools for you to watch. Why do I
feel a. Well, maybe evenbefore, why is this a pressure that
(22:53):
I'm feeling to learn more, tounderstand more? Or am I truly responding
to this? If I'm a sacral beingor if I'm a manifester, am I truly
initiating this study on myown terms? For reflectors and projectors
is my authority the lunarcycle for reflectors or for projectors,
(23:14):
my splenic authority, myemotional authority, my ego, my g,
my mental authority and myprocess with those really pulling
me into this next layer ofstudy? Or am I approaching this next
layer of study from a not selfplace, trying to prove something,
feeling a sense of urgency, trying to feel safe, and all the
different variations on thatthat we covered in the units on the
(23:34):
centers. We do not all need toknow everything about human design.
We don't. And the things thatwe do need to know, we are not from
an ego mind place, in controlof when or how we come into that.
Your strategy and yourauthority will help you to surrender
to the timeline and theprocess that is going to happen that
(23:57):
is correct for you in terms oflearning all this other stuff or
not within the human designsystem. And in the meantime or forever,
all of the intricacies of yourdesign, of your infinitely nuanced,
complex and differentiateddesign are served by you following
your strategy and authority, regardless of whether on a mental
(24:17):
level you are grasping thoseintricacies and those complexities.
Now, another very like fifthline way of orienting to what we've
talked about up to this point, largely with the body graph and the
nine centers and what we'removing into from this point forward
with the four potentialsolutions. This idea of nine potential
(24:39):
problems, four potentialsolutions is a very fifth liney idea.
And this was something that Ithink I've heard it from all of my
human design teachers, Amy andJohn of the Human Design Collective,
as well as Alakanon Diaz. Butit started with ra. This was a way
that RA sort of messaged thecontent we've covered up to this
point, the centers and howthey relate to the types, what we're
(25:00):
moving into now, ninepotential problems, four potential
solutions. So the ninepotential problems are the not self
that lives in the undefinedcenters. Undefined centers themselves
can be potential problems. They are not inherent problems. Undefined
centers are gifts. They areexactly correct. If you have an undefined
(25:21):
center, you are designed to beconditioned to amplify through your
absorption, to learn to becomewise about, to sample, to experience
a wide range of potentialityin each of your undefined centers.
It's when you fixate on them, identify on them, try to experience
(25:42):
consistency, regularity, oridentify with that openness. That's
when they become a problem. Sothere's potential problems in each
of the nine centers. And thepotential solutions are the strategies
that come with the types. Sothe the solution for any of your
potential open centerproblems, if you are a Sacral being
(26:03):
is to respond, to wait. Torespond. Your strategy, right? To
wait for the invitation ifyou're a projector, to wait a lunar
cycle if you're a reflector,and to inform if you're a manifestor.
Strategy is an interestingword because a lot of times when
we think about the process ofstrategizing, we're in. I mean, not
a lot of times always whenwe're in the process of strategizing,
(26:25):
we're up here in the mind,we're in the mental realm. And strategy
in the case of human design inthis context, is not actually a mental
strategy. It's the organic wayof your vehicle, of your form, of
your body. It's actually notmentally strategical. It's the most
organic, simple practice. Andyou, as in your mind, your personality,
(26:48):
aren't doing it. You aren'tcontrolling this strategy. Your body
does it. Your mind will try tointerfere according to your undefined
center conditioning. Butstrategy is just the natural way
your body, your aura, alreadymoves through the world. And I have
a little asterisk here becausethis is not actually true for manifestors.
And when we get to themanifester section, we'll talk about
(27:09):
this a lot more. But informingfor manifestors, it's not actually
a mechanical strategy the waythat all three other types strategies
are. So manifestors have toapproach strategy and authority a
little bit differently. It'smuch more about authority for manifestors
than strategy versus for theother type. Strategy is kind of like
(27:32):
in the front, and authoritybacks it up or adds nuance or layers
to that strategy. But reallywhat I want to focus on here is introducing
strategy as a solution, butnot a mental strategical solution.
What's happening on the mentalplane is we're relaxing away from
strategizing. We're relaxinginto passenger consciousness. We're
(27:53):
allowing the mind to become apassenger by observing that strategy
is already what the body doesand thus surrendering to it and letting
the mind get out of the way.So following your strategy is really
just a tool to help you gainawareness that this is what your
body already does, so you cansurrender to it. Strategy helps you
(28:15):
to watch the problems ratherthan engage with them or get locked
into them. And that's whenthese potential problems stop being
problems or have the have thecapacity to stop being problems and
actually become wisdom, whichis what we are designed for in our
undefined and open centers. One last little piece here that I
want to talk about, a sort ofpractical universalization before
(28:39):
we jump into the individualfor a types and their Strategies
and themes is. I want to lookat type also and strategy as a differentiated
way of navigating ourrelationship to life force. Life
force we've talked about asbeing really referring to the sacral
center, right? And so I wantto talk about life force in the sacral
(29:03):
type, the generator and themanifesting generator, versus the
three non sacral types. Thesacral center is what powers up the
entire body. And I'm sayingthis both in terms of the individual
body. If you have a definedsacral, that center is consistently
powering up your individualvehicle, your body. But the sacral
(29:24):
life force on the planet iswhat powers up the entire body of
the planet, the entire humanspecies. It's very powerful. And
thus its effect on the aura,on the whole of the aura, is immense.
So when we talk about the aurain human design, our aura is an energetic
biofield that holds all of theintricacies of our design within
(29:48):
it. Everything you'll learn inLyd and many, many things beyond
what you'll learn in Lyd,those frequencies, those distinctions,
those nuances, complexities, all of that infinite differentiation
lives in your aura. Aura typeis like the base octave. It's the
literal shape and function ofyour aura at the most base octave
(30:12):
level. And if you have adefined sacral, even though there's
so many variations of whatyour design could be like beyond
having a defined sacral, because of the power in that defined
sacral center, the effect onyour aura, again, is so immense.
And that's why all definedsacral beings are generators. So
(30:32):
I have this image here of sortof how I visualize the generator
aura, the generator open andenveloping aura. It is this massive
energy emanating, this warm, fiery, massive, open energy emanating.
I picture it like steamemanating out of a steam engine,
out of the generator form. Andit's coming from that sacral center.
(30:56):
It's coming from the seat oflife force in the sacral. So this
is just essentially how Ivisualize this defined sacral, this
really powerful motor turnedon, and then all of its energy emanating
out of that aura, which iswhat creates the open and enveloping
aura of the generator. I wantto specify here, though, that it's
(31:18):
not that the non sacral typesdon't experience life force, right?
We just experience life forcein our undefined sacrals. So through
the process of amplifying andabsorbing life force from outside
of us, Very different than theexperience that generators have of
holding and carrying that lifeforce within them, all types experience.
(31:41):
Life force generators are thecarriers of this life force that
is the auric function of thegenerator. All of the other non sacral
types have an Auric functionthat has to do with absorbing, amplifying
and guiding life force intheir own type specific way. And
so in the next video we'regoing to be focusing specifically
on generators and their auricfunction of being the carriers of
(32:03):
this life force and how theirstrategy of response, their themes
of satisfaction andfrustration, all of that, their open
and developing aura, all ofthat is based on the mechanics of
this defined sacral center.Because the sacral center being the
primary motor of the body, theseat of the life force, has such
a massive effect on the waytheir energy wants to move through
(32:25):
the world, AKA on their auraand all of the other non sacral types,
their aura shape, their aurafunctionality begins with the effect
of having an undefined sacral. We don't have all this energy emanating
out of us, so we don't havethese open and developing auras and
the other specifics of our andI'm saying our because I'm a non
(32:48):
sacral the other specifics ofour center definition or not for
the manifestor, the projectorand the reflector, those all contribute
to our own unique Auric shapeand Auric functionality. But what
projectors, reflectors andmanifestors have in common, even
though they have verydifferent aura functionalities and
aura types, is that theundefined sacral center is a big
(33:13):
part of what our aura typedoes. So whether we're looking at
the sacral or the non sacraltype, we're looking at an aura whose
functionality has to do withlife force. In the case of the generator,
carrying and tending to thatlife force within your own form and
in the case of the projector, reflector and manifestor, absorbing
life force through theundefined sacral and then doing what
(33:36):
it is you do from there, penetrating, absorbing and guiding
if you're a projector, sampling and evaluating and reflecting
if you're a reflector, andinitiating if you're a manifester.
