(00:00):
Welcome to Luckee's podcast.
(00:01):
Let's start off by introducingyourself and your school.
Yeah.
Alright guys.
My name is Saul Cardenas.
I'm from Salinas jiu jitsu.
Yay.
Yeah, come on.
Nice clap.
Gonzalez, or known as Balo?
From Salinas jiu jitsu.
Fredrico Diaz from Salinas jiujitsu.
So what'd you think about thisopen map?
(00:22):
It was crazy.
I mean, there was a lot ofpeople, I didn't know how many
people to expect, but there wasdefinitely enough people to beat
the gorilla.
Um, that's the first thing Ithought when I got here.
It's a lot of gorilla that hewas good.
He wants to hear you wanna beatthat gorilla?
I think, yeah.
I don't think the gorilla hasthe cardio.
I think it fades on the thirdround.
No, but fun, fun time here.
Super cool.
I think he rips all the arms offand bites all the heads off of,
(00:43):
like 10 people right away.
Sure.
I'm saying.
and then you all run.
No, no, no, no.
Assuming these are just drones, like people that don't have
emotions, I think the people win'cause they don't care.
Right.
And then the gorilla's justgonna run outta cardio.
I'm just kidding.
I don't really know who, that'sjust my thoughts.
Yeah.
It was pretty cool, being thebig guy.
There's not a lot of big guys atmy gym, so like seeing a lot of
(01:04):
other big guys there, it's like, okay, I can finally use my
weight for once.
You know, I don't have to worryabout like, oh boy quebrar un
nino un nina.
You know, it's great trying tosee other people about my size
and, wherever jiu jitsu's a verywelcoming community.
It's everybody.
Alvaro's the gorilla.
Yeah.
Yeah.
To me, I was thinking the wholetime, when the first time I went
to a koffee krew in Gilroy.
(01:26):
Yeah.
You know, it was a, was smallgroup because it was during
Covid.
Yeah.
And we were all hiding on theback door kind of thing.
I think we can say that now, butyeah, we can say that now,
sneaking in through the backdoor.
Right.
So, to see this today just meansthat, these guys are doing
something really cool, somethingunique, that it doesn't matter
where you come from, it doesn'tmatter.
(01:47):
You know, what you do in life, you're always welcome here and
that's really cool.
And it was also true to seeeverybody from our gym come,
even though it's about an hourdrive.
Not everybody, but a lot of theguys decided to come and it's
awesome.
Cool.
Yeah, that's one thing Iappreciate a lot.
I know sometimes it can be we'rein jiu jitsu, but this really
(02:08):
brings everyone together andit's just fun to roll, man like
no matter who it is, what gym, nothing, you know?
Yeah.
I'd like to shout out to,besides the sponsors, also the,
everyone who just rolled today.
'Cause a lot of egos could havebeen flare up, things could have
broken out.
But the thing is, it's beengoing on for so long.
I think I was here since 2019from jiu jitsu.
And, just seeing it grow, it'skind of like watching a little
pony become a stallion, youknow?
(02:28):
So props to, the community, butalso to koffee krew itself.
And also, to you Luckee, congrats on everything you're
doing.
Oh, thank you.
A lot for the community.
Yeah, thank you.
Between the pictures with nowwith the podcast and everything
else you do that whoever is agood friend of you knows how
much you give.
Yeah.
I think everyone appreciatesyou, obviously.
I'm telling you.
(02:48):
I've told you that many times, but thank you.
Thank you Fred, to say thatagain.
I appreciate that.
Thank you.
Let's get into a couple of jiujitsu questions.
Okay.
Just random.
How do you pass on what you'velearned to others?
You just keep beating'em upuntil they understand.
That's perfect.
I mean, that's how I learnedsome stuff, for sure.
(03:09):
Yeah.
I mean, yeah, I mean it'sworking with people like usually
when it's newer people, I go alittle bit slower.
Some people go harder and thenthey just keep learning as they
go.
Alright.
You know what I think one isdon't compare yourself to
others.
I think that's what kills thejoy of jiu jitsu.
But also again, everyoneprogress is differently and take
your time, fight, figure outyour game.
There's no rush, and then'causethat way then hopefully when you
(03:32):
realize that, you get to tellthat to other people, to the
newer people.
Yeah, that's probably the onething I could pass on.
Okay.
How about you Fred?
To me it's just, telling themnot to worry too much about
being tapped, getting tapped ortapped somebody it's just a
matter of, showing up.
As long as you show up, you'regonna learn.
Alright.
Another question.
What technique do you wish youhave started earlier?
(03:56):
If you could start a technique, what one would you have taken
earlier that you like now?
Oh, come on.
I have two.
Okay.
One of them is the shouldercrunch.
That's kind of become my thingnow.
I'm not that good at it, guys.
But, if I had started thatearlier, maybe I could have done
something with my life.
But another one is just, juststanding up.
Man, that works so well.
Sometimes, you know, I'm notgonna sweep this guy.
(04:17):
So if I just call it thetadpole, I just put my feet on
their hips and tadpole out.
Yeah, that's a hack.
You know, try it out.
How about your Alvaro?
Which, what technique would you, there's so many, but you know
what I would like to say, thedeep half.
There's a few times where I'vehit it before.
I tried doing it on Fred theother day on Friday, and all of
a sudden it went a hundredpercent ugly for me.
(04:39):
I actually know, I'm like, wait,I thought I got a deep half and
next thing I got armbared.
But I like to use deep halfmore.
I mean, wouldn't use it on thestreets, but on the mat, you
know, why not?
Yeah.
Well, with deep path you have tohide your arms so they don't
armbar you.
Yeah.
You hide the arm.
Yeah, for sure.
I didn't hide it.
Yeah.
And then you have to try it athousand times before it really
works.
So keep on going for it.
Oss.
Yeah.
(04:59):
Fred how about you.
I think the, a couple sweeps, Ithink they are very helpful.
If I would have learned before,it would be very helpful.
Flower sweep has been workingreally well for me.
And, there is a certaintechnique to it, a timing.
Okay.
It's not when you want it, it'sa lot of times when they give it
to you, and some other sweepsthat work sometimes just to kind
of open up the game and you cango somewhere from there.
(05:22):
I used to get stuck on my closedguard and then don't want to
open or try anything until theother guard kind of, opened the
gaurd.
A lot of times it was too late.
So, yeah, I would say a couplesweeps.
Sounds good.
Okay.
Anything else in closing thatyou guys would like to say?
Well, that we don't likeSaulito.
That's fair.
That's fair.
Totally fair.
(05:44):
Had a fun time here tonight?
Um, tonight.
Oh, wow.
I'm so sorry.
