Jolynne Rydz (00:00):
This is a massive thank you to each and every one
of you that are listening tothis episode and everyone who's
contributed to this episode, because we've just passed a
wonderful milestone, which is 10episodes.
And now, before you go yeah, 10episodes, okay, cool, all right
, maybe a bit early to pop thechampagne.

(00:21):
To pop the champagne researchdone by Amplify Media in 2022
found that only 7% of podcastshave 10 or more episodes and
have released one in the lastmonth.
So an active podcast.
So that's us, and that's worthcelebrating, I think.
So, thank you all, and I wantto thank you because you've

(00:41):
helped this podcast to reach 16countries in six months, and
that's incredible, I think, interms of every listen that
you've done, every person you'vechatted to the podcast, about,
every share that you've done, every time you've just gotten
back in to go what's coming upnext?
Or following the podcast.

(01:02):
All of that has been helpfuland all of that is incredibly
meaningful, because the wholereason for this podcast is to
inspire people that are inleadership roles or maybe want
to have a bigger impact, butaren't quite sure or confident
enough to do that, to realizethat you can, and to realize

(01:22):
that you can do that in a waythat is so incredibly you and
that you don't have to followthe mainstream ways and the
traditional ways that we gettaught to lead and what that
looks like.
And when you unlock your innerstrengths and what makes you
unique and wonderful and youbring that to the forefront with

(01:42):
confidence, and you bring thatto the forefront with confidence
, incredible things can happen.
If I can make one leader or oneperson out there take an action
or think differently or saysomething differently, or not
say something or do somethingthat has a positive impact on
someone, that makes someoneempowered, that maybe stops a

(02:07):
toxic situation from occurring, that lifts someone up and lights
them up and steers them closerto their purpose in life and
their ability to make their ownincredible impact, then this is
all worth it.
So thank you for supporting meon this journey and thank you to

(02:28):
all my wonderful clients aswell.
Each and every one of you is soinspiring in what you do and
what you put into practice.
I love working with you and Ilook forward to continuing to
work with you, and this has justbeen a wonderful journey and
I'm so grateful for all of thesupport that you have given to

(02:48):
this podcast.
So this episode is about beingpulled by purpose, because when
I came across these statistics, there was actually some really
interesting things that came tomy mind.
Firstly, the second statisticthat I'm going to share is that
47% of podcasts have three orless episodes.

(03:10):
Now there's 4.4 millionpodcasts out there, so not just
episodes, podcast titles, thewhole podcast 4.4 million of
them out in the world.
So that means, you know, closeto 2 million of those have three
or less episodes, and I feellike this really paints a
picture of maybe something thatour society is doing without us

(03:35):
even realizing.
Because have you ever felt likethings are just taking too long
to come to fruition?
Maybe you're getting frustratedwith the pace of your career or
a project that you're workingon, and I don't think that's
uncommon because we've beenconditioned to give up really
quickly If you think about oursociety and the pace things move

(03:56):
at.
We've got instant access toinformation through Google,
through chat, gpt, we've gotstreaming services for TV and
movies, we can fast forwardthrough ads, so we try and shove
as much as we can into the dayswe have in our life and then
feel like, why aren't we gettingwhere we want to go?

(04:17):
And I think that's because it'snot about how much you do, it's
about why you do it.
Have you ever felt like thingsare just too hard, like you
start something and then go ohmy goodness, I'm so overwhelmed
now because I thought I was justdoing a podcast, but now
there's these 10 other things Ineed to do.

(04:38):
I need to work out what thetopic is.
I need to structure it in a wayso I'm not rambling.
I need to connect with guestsand find them and set up a time
with them when I can recordwithout children screaming in
the background or the garbagetruck going by, which you
probably heard in a couple ofepisodes has happened.
So I've learned don't record ona Monday.

(04:59):
The technology I had one episodein this season that we actually
had three separate attempts toput into practice because we
just encountered tech challenges.
The editing that goes in eventhough this is basically
straight run conversations withminimal editing, there is still
some editing that's involved, just so it's not boring for you
as a listener, and thenpublishing it.

(05:21):
So there's a whole lot ofeffort that can go into
something and when you start aproject, sometimes you don't
always know what that is.
You don't understand the effortthat's needed, and it can be
easy to back away and step out.
So what I found, though, isthat when those things happen so

(05:42):
what I found, though, is that, when those things happen, being
pulled by purpose is incrediblypowerful to give you the energy
and the motivation to keep going.
Angela Duckworth if you haven'tcome across her, look her up.
She's incredible, and she'swritten a book called Grit, and
she did a study that looked atwhat are the things that make
the difference between someonedoing average and someone just

(06:04):
smashing things out of the parkand doing really well, and it
wasn't the natural talent thatmattered.
Mattered, it was people'sability to stick at something
and get up once they've fallendown, to hit those challenges
and dig deep and realizeinternally for themselves that
they had the strength and theskills to get through whatever

(06:27):
this challenge was that they'refacing, and so I wanted to bring
this topic to you pulled bypurpose, because I think, in any
career or business or area oflife, we're going to encounter
challenges, and we're going toencounter times where we want to
give up or where we want tolisten to the people that say no

(06:49):
.
I don't think that's a goodidea to do the podcast, which I
did encounter, that had to do todo the podcast which I did
encounter.
That or the people that doubtyou.
Or the people or your ownself-talk about.
Who do you think you are?
Again, real thought that wentthrough my head.
Who do you think you are toshare?
Have a podcast, you know whatvalue is that going to add into
the world?
And to push past those thingsand then realize that no,

(07:12):
actually people are listening, people are getting value, people
are taking action and theripple impact that can have.
So, even if you walk away withone thing from today's episode,
I want you to walk away with thethought that you can make a
difference and when you'repulled by purpose, that

(07:33):
absolutely amplifies yourability to stick in there with
grit and go make somethingreally cool happen.
So three ways that you can tapinto this power of being pulled
by purpose is to ask yourselfwhat's your why?
Like what is actually yourpurpose and define that what's
the big picture?
Like what is actually yourpurpose and define that what's

(07:54):
the big picture and how does itimpact people outside of
yourself.
Because when we focus onourselves, just ourselves,
that's when the ego can come toplay.
That's when the self-doubt cancome in.
That's when you can maybe makedecisions that aren't in the
best interest of the listenersor the broader audience that

(08:16):
you're trying to reach, or yourpeople, your teams, your clients
.
So what is your why and what'sthe impact For me?
For this podcast, I want toinspire people to embrace their
whole selves, to basically lovethemselves, who they are, and
know that that is their strength, and be able to unpack that in

(08:37):
great detail and use itintentionally to lift the people
up that surround them, tocreate environments where people
thrive, because there's so manyhours in a day that we spend at
work or doing things like work, even if that's care for family
members or people in thecommunity.

(08:57):
All of these things, all ofthese efforts, are so much more
powerful when they have ameaning and a purpose and an
impact that goes beyond maybegetting your paycheck at the end
of the week.
So I want everyone toexperience what it's like to tap
into that passion and thrive asthemselves, and my hope is that

(09:22):
this podcast is part of how Ibring this into the world.
So the second thing that youcan do to be pulled by purpose
is to collaborate, because ifyou're doing it on your own that
self-talk can be sodebilitating.
You can get stuck in analysis, paralysis and not do anything.

(09:43):
But when you have a commitmentto someone, when you have
accountability to show up for ameeting, when you have a
obligation to do your bit, one,it's heaps more fun.
And two, you learn so muchalong the way.
And three, it makes it easierto commit to someone else than

(10:03):
it is to yourself sometimes.
I think that's why things likebootcamp and fitness classes do
so well is because you'reshowing up and it's not just you
going.
I want to go for a solo runbecause it's way easier to just
snuggle back into bed and say,no, I don't want to run today.
But if people are expecting youin that class cause you go most

(10:24):
weeks, then you're probablygoing to get up and go to that
class.
So it's so much more fun andpowerful doing it with people
and shout out to all of mywonderful guests so far You're
all incredible in each and everyway and you all bring an
incredible insight andperspective on leadership and
life and being your own magneticself.

(10:46):
So thank you for sharing inthis podcast with me.
Now the third way that you canbe pulled by purpose is to just
have fun.
Right, when things are fun, youhave the energy to keep going.
When things are fun, you havethe energy to go.
Okay, that challenge sucked, but we can get through this and

(11:08):
we'll still make a difference.
And so tap into the things thatare fun.
If you're feeling like you don'thave fun in your work or your
career or your business at themoment, maybe even in your
family, how can you bring thatin?
What's one small thing that youcan do to have more fun?
I trust that you found thisepisode incredibly useful and I

(11:32):
can't wait to hear whatresonated.
What you're implementingbecause always remember you,
putting this into practice iswhat is absolutely key to making
a difference and thank you onceagain to each and every one of
you listening, because it's youwho has gotten this podcast out
there and across 16 countries,which I still can't believe.

(11:52):
I'm still like a bit mind blownby that.
So thank you so much.
It's incredibly meaningful andyou are a part of this purpose.
So thank you so much for beingpulled by my purpose and I can't
wait to hear what yours is so Ican cheer you on and be a part
of your purpose as well, andbringing that to life, because
really that's where the fun at.

(12:13):
I get so much joy from seeingpeople light up, do what they're
absolutely made to do in thisworld because they love it and
they're good at it and they'veworked at it, and that connect
with people and make adifference.
It's such a brilliant feeling.
That's why I do what I do.

(12:34):
So looking forward to walkingthis path with you.
