The Productivity Commission has abandoned its plan to allow tech companies to use copyrighted material for AI training, following backlash from creative industries. Instead, they propose a three-year wait to review Australias copyright rules and AIs impact. The Australian Recording Industry Association welcomed the decision, stating that Australias copyright system is robust and doesnt need new exceptions for AI. The commissions initial proposal for a fair dealing exemption was met with opposition, leading to its withdrawal. The report was part of five inquiries aimed at economic reform, with the commissions chair emphasizing the need to boost productivity for future generations.
