Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Mercer Moments in American History.
Today is a special program, aseries called Bible Verses A
through Z, where I share withyou some of my favorite verses
and, of course, I want to hearsome of yours too.
Today's verse is the I-verse InGod I trust and I am not afraid
, psalms 56, 11.

(00:22):
Please repeat with me again Iverse In God I trust and I am
not afraid, Psalm 56.11.
This is a special verse andthere are several verses in
Psalms that talk about trustingin God as a person, as a group,
as a nation.
And I wore this hat today youknow I love my hats to honor, to

(00:43):
applaud President DwightEisenhower.
Eisenhower was president fortwo terms, eight years, but he's
also the commanding general, the supreme commander of the
Allied forces, that's, theCanadians, british, australian,
american, the remnants of theArmy of Poland and France back
in World War II.
Now, what is this verse andthis hat?

(01:04):
Well, this verse and this hat, well, this hat is one that he
would wear, that Eisenhowerwould wear.
But this verse is importantbecause there's a series of
verses in Psalms that talk abouttrusting God.
Eisenhower was an eyewitness.
He saw what happened before, during and after World War II,
what happened when you took theevils of atheism, the atheist,

(01:26):
and you combine that with theevils of what I call MSC,
m-marxism, s-socialism,c-communism, and Eisenhower had
this fear, didn't want thatspreading to our country.
Eisenhower wanted to send aclear message to the rest of the
world.
The United States of America isdifferent.
We're a nation of faith.
He went to the House and theSenate and he said most

(01:50):
Americans seem to understand ournational motto is what In God
we trust.
Let's make it official In casesomewhere in the future someone
tries to deny our religiousfoundations, our heritage.
And Congress did just thatUnder Eisenhower's leadership.
On July 30, 1956, they adoptedour national motto as In God we

(02:17):
Trust.
Pretty awesome piece of historyand it ties directly to this
verse.
Again, there are several versesin Psalms that talk about
trusting God, not being afraid, doing the right thing.
In God we trust.
A great part of historyinspired by the I-verse In God
we trust, I will not be afraid.

(02:38):
Now I like to always share aquick song, and today this song
was written almost 60 yearslater, a great song by a group
called Diamond Rio.
I encourage you to go onlineand hear the complete song.
I don't have permission to dothe whole song, but the words
are so important even for today, almost prophetic, almost

(02:59):
prophetic of what Eisenhowersaid could happen if we're not
careful.
The words are Eisenhower saidcould happen if we're not
careful.
The words are In God we stilltrust here in America.
He's the one that we turn toevery time.
The goal in Gitche Ruff God isthe source of all our strength.

(03:20):
He's the one that watches overus.
Our strength, he's the one thatwatches over us here in America
, right here in America, in ourGod we still trust here in
America.
I hope you enjoyed today'sprogram.

(03:43):
Again, the I-verse In God Itrust, I will not be afraid.
Psalm 56, 11.
Thank you, god bless you.
