Sam Rumbelow, a method acting teacher of 25 years of experience, shares his thoughts on acting and its process from a perspective that is widely ignored nowadays, although being fundamental to an actor's journey!
Three major components to the actors process, how they interplay with each other, how they each bring their value to the table and how they can also work against you if not present with them.
The big difference between knowing and being. One is passive and intellectual, the other is active and experiential, guess which one is more useful for acting...?
The result! A very strong word and fixation that is, understandably, very important to the actor, but that most of the time works against them rather than for them.
The actor needs to address what does the result mean to them personally and bring to their conscious perception the dynamics and narratives linked to it, so they can they eventually avoid habits that holds them back, or work with it if it fits the material they are work...
There is an important difference to point out when it comes to acting. There is the civilian world, and the actor's world. Both equally important but within a very different purpose and value.
Exploration is key to find the character, but not without a specific plan...
