Ever felt torn between what your mind says you should do and what your body whispers you need? In this raw, heart-opening episode, Kena shares why honouring yourself matters.

From changing her own event plans to reclaiming calm and alignment, she invites you to explore what true coherence feels like: when your thoughts, emotions, and actions finally agree.

By the end, you’ll remember that honouring yourself isn’t selfish, but a way to find peace within.

In This Episode You’ll Learn

  • Why honouring yourself brings instant nervous-system regulation
  • How to notice when your mind leads you away from your truth
  • What coherence really means (and how to live from it daily)
  • How self-honouring becomes your pathway to freedom and calm

🦋 Reflection Questions

  1. Where in your life are you overriding your truth just to keep the peace?
  2. How would it feel to let your body—not your mind—lead the way today?
  3. What might open up if you trusted your inner “no” as much as your “yes”?

Kena Siu (00:02):
First, you why honoring yourself matters.
This is Kena Siu.
Welcome back to the MidlifeButterfly Podcast.
I'm so glad to have you here.
And if you are new, welcome, welcome, welcome.
This is the life of thebutterfly.
We're going through differentstages during this midlife

(00:23):
transitions of life.
So we are here to fly again tocuckoo, to witherworm, whatever
space, place we are, alwayswelcome.
All is welcome.
That's the beauty of midlife,right?
And today I want to be shortand yeah.

(00:45):
So what I want to talk about isthe importance of honoring
yourself, why it matters.
And I'm gonna give you a reallyclear, very, very clear
example.
I am hosting an event nextweek.
It was a three-day activation.
First you coming back, cominghome to yourself.

(01:06):
And I decided to change it.
Yes.
So instead of three days now,it's gonna be a one day, it's
gonna be a mastermind.
First you boundaries, hold on,for joyful holidays.
I think that's gonna be veryimportant.
This is gonna be just before, well, the holidays.

(01:29):
We have more family gatheringsand friends' gatherings, and
there are some triggers inthere, and then we, you know, we
get to let others cruise ourboundaries.
So the idea is to dig in intothat.
Okay, so that's one thing.
My point with this shortpodcast is about why it matters

(01:53):
honoring yourself.
This three-day activation,finally, it didn't kind of
align.
I have a lot of things going onat this moment, and I'm going
to mention them just for you torealize that everyone has
different stuff going on intheir lives.
We never know.
So please don't assume.

(02:15):
And so the thing is, it'sNovember.
I'm a digital nomad.
So next month I'm heading backto my home country, Mexico.
So I'm in the middle of rentingmy apartment, I'm in the middle
of doing a certification.
We're having an exam this week, and there's still another one,
the beginning of December, forthe neuroepigenetic breathing

(02:40):
that it's blowing my mind.
And eventually, I seriously, Icannot wait to share this
powerful kind of breath ofmeditation with you because it
has changed my life.
And if you see me with thisenergy today, because yesterday
at this hour, I was feeling likecrap to tell you the truth.

(03:02):
But this morning, I this I didthis super powerful meditation,
was filled with love, makinglove just to the energy of love
itself.
I know it sounds crazy, butit's so beautiful, and you know,
filling my body with thisoxytocin, and that's why I'm so

(03:26):
fucking turned on now.
I didn't have to touch myself.
No, it's just the energy, it'sjust the intention, and it's so
fucking beautiful.
So eventually I'm gonna shareit with you.
So, yeah, so this is alsohappening.
I'm about also to apply for apart-time job, since well, my
coaching business is still inthe making, and well, there are

(03:50):
bills to pay.
This is life, right?
And yeah, and at the same time,I'm going back home with my
family, with all of them inthere.
So I think changing the firstyou two actually boundaries to
have joy show joyful holidays ismuch better and less vague as

(04:13):
coming back home to yourself, even though that is a very
powerful statement and it'spossible to do, but that's for
another thing.
So, yeah, by me checking itwith myself in a stillness and
realizing that yeah, thisthree-day event that I plan at

(04:36):
the very beginning, it doesn'talign with all the stuff that is
happening at this very moment,right?
So I chose to change this toDecember 20th, not December,
November 20th, instead of thethree days from the 18 to the
20th, and it feels much better, and I feel calmer because the

(05:03):
truth is we get to choose manytimes.
We get to choose.
Sometimes it might not be thebest option that we have, but
sometimes, I mean, from thosetwo, there might be something
that it's better for you, right?
I am glad that I have thisflexibility to say, no, I don't

(05:28):
want to do this anymore, so Ichoose to do this other thing.
And by choosing that, again, Irelease stress, I released a lot
of pressure in my shoulders, and at the same time, I'm
honoring myself.
I'm honoring myself, and I feelcoherent with what I am

(05:53):
planning to do, meaning likewith my action that I'm taking,
with the feelings that I'mhaving, and with the thoughts
that I'm creating.
So, by having this alignment,my nervous system is calmed.
So that's the importance ofbeing true to yourself,

(06:21):
listening to your body more thanthe mind, because the mind
plays us so so hard.
Like literally, yesterday, since the year, this the day
before, I was in a freakinghole.
I allow my mind to took me, totake me there, and it was
freaking hell until I little bylittle start reacting, and I

(06:44):
said, like, I feel so blast, sodamp.
It's like, okay, let's get outof the mind, let's get back to
the body, and just by the simpleaction of leaving my bed,
meaning leaving that environmentwhich it was toxic at that very

(07:04):
moment, because I was allowingmy mind to play out with me.
So I get out of there, I gotdressed to come to conflict
clothing, and I just came anddid some meditation and breath
work.
And you know what?
The funny part, even though Idid the same meditation that I
did today, yesterday was acomplete different thing that I

(07:29):
experienced.
There were more emotions comingthrough there because of course
it was.
If I was in that kind of like Ifelt into dissociation, I felt
like numbed, you know, like youare doing something, but at the
same time I was feelingparalyzed, and yeah, my body
tends to do that to dissociate.

(07:51):
So as soon as I start takingaction, and then I did my did
this meditation, and then I Idid some movement and dancing,
which is included in it, but itjust shifted me, and by doing
some journaling, also, so allthose little things helped me to

(08:11):
come back into coherencebecause by noon I was another
person completely.
So, where are the things thatyou can do to honor yourself by
following your intuition, following what your body is

(08:33):
telling you?
Because again, don't believewhat your mind is telling you
because you are not your dots, you are the witness of it, you
are the observer, you are theconsciousness behind it, but you
are not it, you are thisbeautiful temple body, you're
not this beautiful soul havingthe experience in this body.

(08:56):
So when we get to shift that, the mind calms down, and by
doing that and tuning in moreinto the body, and really
noticing okay, what am Ithinking?
Okay, this is happening, thisis what I'm thinking.

(09:17):
In that case, you get to choosesomething different, right?
Because whatever you'rethinking is the emotions that
you might be having in yourbody, and then based on those
emotions is how we take action.
So, in order for you to livemore in coherence to honor

(09:40):
yourself, it's about that havingyour thoughts, your emotions,
and your actions in alignment.
So you can live in coherencewith a regulator or more
regulated nervous system, andthat's where a neutral state

(10:04):
comes in.
It's not that we have to behigh in the all the joyful and
excitement the whole time, ithappens, yes, but it's also when
we allow that neutrality thatis just that peace, or at least
if there's something stillthere, it's okay.

(10:24):
We get into this equanimity andwe accept what is right, so
that's my share for today.
That is a sweet and shortepisode for today because I have
a class for my Euro epigeneticbreathing certification.

(10:48):
And I want to wish you awonderful week.
I want to wish you that you getinto that coherence in your
life.
It's little shifts, it's littlechoices that you can take every
moment.
And the more important thinghere is awareness because the

(11:10):
more aware you are, the betterchoices you might take, and the
better you're gonna be creatingyour reality.
Okay, much love to you.
