Coach Stacy (01:16):
How are you Welcome
to Midlife Revolution Unleashed
.
I am great Coach Wayne.
How are you today?
Coach Wayne (01:27):
Wayne, how are you
today?
Doing well, stacey, doing well, and today's topic really
excites me because it has had alot of talk.
It's all the talk, it's thewave, it's the new era.
We're talking about AI,advantage in midlife,
productivity possibilities andpersonal growth all involved
with this topic.
Coach Stacy (01:47):
Yeah, I'm excited
about this topic.
I'm a techie at heart and soI'm really thrilled that we're
going to engage in thisconversation in a way that is
really speaking uniquely to ourmidlife audience and empowering
them in a way to really takethis technology that's not that
(02:09):
new and move it forward withpower.
And before we jump in, CoachWayne, why don't you introduce
yourself to the people there?
Coach Wayne (02:17):
Hey, happy to do so
.
I am Coach Wayne, Wayne Dawson.
I help Black men navigatethrough midlife so that their
second half can be their besthalf.
And Stacey.
Coach Stacy (02:32):
I am Coach Stacey M
Lewis.
I'm a non-profit executive, amidlife women's coach.
I love God and his people and Iam always so excited to spend
this time with Coach Wayne, solet's jump in, wayne.
Coach Wayne (02:46):
Absolutely, stacey.
You know, stacey.
I wanted to just againcelebrate the fact that this is
our third season and we are likein the 60 something show.
Is that correct, yeah?
Coach Stacy (03:01):
that is correct.
We are on episode 62 and we areso excited that our
listenership has grown and we'reso excited that you, as the
listener, have joined us today.
So please tune in and shareyour thoughts in the comments.
Coach Wayne (03:19):
We're really
excited to hear what you have to
say, stacy a lot of what ishappening around this whole
movement of AI comes with of theearly Gen X folks who weren't
necessarily born aroundcomputers as the younger
(03:52):
generation today, z and themillennials are.
You will see, oftentimes on aplane, young kids as old as or
as young as five with a cellphone and they're operating it.
Right, and no, I didn't have acell phone until much, much
(04:14):
later on in life.
Right, if I told my mother Iwas down the block, she knew
that that's where I was going tobe, and so when she hollered
down the block or sent somebodyto that house, that's where I
was going to be, and so when shehollered down the block or sent
somebody to that house, that'swhere I was going to be, there
was no Texan to say I was movingaround.
So I had to come home to say Iwas going somewhere else.
But a youngster today, even inyour own house Stacy, yeah, your
(04:38):
son probably is reaching out toyou and you're downstairs, he's
upstairs, he might text you, right, you?
And you're downstairs, he'supstairs, he might text you,
right.
So I say that to say AI, whichis right now where we are in
terms of the age and technology, for a lot of people means I'm
(04:58):
losing my job, means I am justnot going to be available in the
workforce, and for some that'strue.
But today we wanted to talkabout how you can leverage the
idea that it's now and use AI tooptimize your standard of
(05:21):
living and to better preventyourself from being displaced.
Coach Stacy (05:29):
You're absolutely
right, wayne.
The reality is that technologyis not just for the youngins.
Technology is not even for theolder youngins.
This is an opportune time forour midlife audience to really
jump in, to explore how AI, howtechnology, which is not new,
(05:53):
can really help us be and thrivein this season.
Coach Wayne (05:59):
Yeah, but Stacey,
we are already immersed in
technology.
How many of you use Siri inyour home, or Alexa or in your
security system?
Coach Stacy (06:14):
you have Ring, most
of us Netflix even right, right
right, right, technology I wasthinking about the cable company
, right?
So you know, I have RCN orAstound, whatever they're
calling themselves today, and asthey evolved as a company and
(06:38):
as technology evolved, right, the remote that you get to
operate your live TV watchingyou can now speak into right, so
you can say I want to watch thesix o'clock news and that is
artificial intelligence, reallycommunicating in a way, to then
(07:01):
pop up on my television the sixo'clock news.
So there is really greatopportunity here for us to
really grow and use it in waysthat are benefiting us.
So your earlier point not beingafraid or too reserved about it
, but to say, hey, let me, letme give it a whirl and see how
(07:24):
it can benefit me.
Coach Wayne (07:26):
Yeah, stacey, some
folks will have on their
refrigerator the AI technologythat helps them to identify the
produce in their refrigeratorand what's short and what needs
to be refilled and give them alist, so that a shopping list.
You know, I know I go to thestore and I always go home and
(07:49):
say, oh, why did I?
Oh, I forgot this.
So for some folks, the ideabehind AI, which we're already
using, is really augmentingconvenience, it's adding to it
and optimizing it, and so it's amind shift.
And again, stacey, one of thethings that we must recognize is
(08:14):
the tools that we have is asgood as the hands that produce
them.
Coach Stacy (08:48):
Well, yes, yes, yes
, yes, yes, well said, as good
as the hands that produce themand as good as the human
intelligence that is using it.
Right?
So artificial intelligence iscoupled, is meant to be an asset
, a resource for humanintelligence, so it is not to
replace, it is really to enhance, and so you and I gave some
great examples of AI that folksare already using.
But let's start to talk abouthow our listener, how you the
listener, can use it to maybebalance your schedule, to be
(09:10):
more productive, to think moreinnovatively.
What do we have, wayne?
What do we have so?
Coach Wayne (09:20):
I walk around, I
have tons of watches that I no
longer wear.
Stacey, I wear a smart watch, and is it smarter than me?
I would say it depends on whatI put into the it work with you
(09:50):
and for you, so to speak.
And when we talk about midlife, there's an element of
oftentimes business that's anice way of saying forgetfulness
, business that we need aid andhelp with and could use tools in
planning and reminding us as wego through just the normal
(10:13):
routines of our day, not tomention productivity at the
office.
And so, stacey, do you want totalk a little bit about some of
these tools that help us tothink and learn and adapt?
Coach Stacy (10:29):
Yeah, I think we
can start with some productivity
and time management tools thatsome may already be using, and I
can recall even last seasonwhen you and I talking about
Trello being one of them Right,a way to really utilize
technology to help you manageyour day.
I think that there are greatopportunities there to build a
(10:54):
schedule that works for you, that takes into consideration
all of the things you have goingon your work life, your
entrepreneurship, yourcaregiving, your childcare,
whatever those many facets oflife are and put them together
(11:17):
in a way that maybe you haven'tthought of.
And so there's rescue time andTodoist.
There are many technologies, many AI supports that are
designed specifically aroundproductivity and time management
, and I don't know about you,wayne, but I'm always asking
(11:37):
myself well, clearly, I cannotcreate time, so how can I make
the most of every 24, right, that fresh 24 that each of us
get?
How can I make the most of it?
And so that's some conversationand some thought around
productivity and time managementand the use of AI.
Coach Wayne (12:00):
Yeah, and I would
say as a coach, stacey, it is
important to look at you, thecoachee, and say challenge
yourself, look at your day.
Where are you having the mostleakage of energy and time that
needs to be plugged?
And how might you use one ofthe tools that we mentioned or
(12:31):
one of the other tools out thereto help to plug those so that
you can be more efficient?
Right, in many quarters, themantra is time is money, but
time is life, right, yes, yeah,it is our most valuable resource
.
Coach Stacy (12:47):
It is not
replenishable, right, and so
it's critical, and I love theway you incorporated energy, and
I think we'll have to really doan episode really on energy
right, because we talk abouttime management, we talk about
financial management, but oftenwe don't talk about the energy
management, right, and so let'smake a note that we want to come
(13:11):
back to doing a little bit moreof a deep dive about energy
management.
You're absolutely right, askingyourself the question about
where am I losing that time andthat energy and how can I
utilize some of this technologyto help me identify and to help
me be more efficient, like yousaid.
Coach Wayne (13:31):
And again Stacey,
the reason why it's important
for us to get on board isbecause the train is on the path
, it's not stopping, and so ifyou're going to get on, you have
to be prepared when it getsinto your station.
You have the AI train.
You're either going to be runover or not, but stand up
(13:54):
prepared, pack your luggageovernight, be prepared to get on
and let's get moving Right.
Coach Stacy (14:02):
So yeah, we got to
do it, got to do it, got to do
it.
Let's talk about some of thenew ideas and really learning
opportunities that exist becauseof AI.
Coach Wayne (14:17):
Yeah, we're
traveling this year and part of
what happens is Audrey is fluentin English and Spanish, but you
know, we're actually going toAfrica and where we're going,
english is spoken, but there arelots of other dialects,
(14:37):
languages, and Duolingo is atool, along with others, that
you can use when you'retraveling to make life easier
for you.
There's a housekeeper thatcomes in every so often here to
do a deep cleaning for our house.
She speaks no word in English.
Oftentimes, audrey is at theoffice and so I'm here and I'm
(14:59):
instructing her as I leave.
But first time I tried that itjust didn't work.
I was doing sign language andit just wasn't working.
We missed the mark.
And then she showed me herphone and she had an app and the
app.
All I had to do was text her orspeak to her and send her a
voice message slowly what Iinstructed or wanted.
(15:22):
And guess what?
Stacy, she was able tounderstand me, so we weren't
missing each other, like twoships in the dark.
Wow, Wow, amazing.
Coach Stacy (15:34):
Right, it is.
It is, and how did thatincrease your productivity?
How did that increase theoutcome?
Right, she was, I'm sure, doinga great job, or had the
capacity to do a great job, atfulfilling what it is you were
requesting, but now that you'reable to communicate with her.
(15:56):
So we're talking now about AIas a communication tool, now
that you're able to communicatewith her in a way that she
thoroughly understands, right?
Both of you are now moresatisfied, and so I think this
idea of using technology, usingAI, in ways that benefit us, is
(16:22):
really this is a great time tohave this conversation, and we
really get to also use it inlearning, and we really get to
(16:55):
also use it in learning, right?
So all of us have heard ofCoursera, which is really
artificial intelligence in orderto serve to you, the user,
education and information thatis of interest to you, in a way
that you can easily consume.
Coach Wayne (17:07):
Yeah, powerful
Stacey.
There are some tools that Ihave also used as a content
developer for helping with mycourses, and one of the things
that it enables me to do is tomultitask, as it were, meaning
set it and let it.
You can ask these tools to helpyou to refine or define a topic
(17:35):
area that you're working at,and because it has loads of
information, it can put ittogether in a time much more
readily than you would in termsof research.
Of course, you have to go backand back it up to make sure that
they are in alignment, but wow, those two o'clock in the
(17:56):
morning that I would be up goingover stuff allows my wife to be
very happy because I can retireby 10 using the tool.
Isn't that fantastic?
Coach Stacy (18:09):
That's right, honey
.
Happy wife, happy life right, that's what they say, wayne.
So good, you get a point forsmartness right there.
I think the coaching questionaround this area of the
reflection is what skill orcuriosity have you put on the
(18:30):
back shelf, or maybe just beenpondering, but have not taken
the step to explore it?
How could you use AI in orderto explore, in manageable ways,
new ideas or areas of interestthat seem very overwhelming?
(18:50):
But now you have a newopportunity to take things in a
bite-sized chunk.
Coach Wayne (18:55):
Yeah, absolutely
Bite-sized chunk.
It does help us to kind of seethe world in different ways than
we were before, and we have tobe open to learning, right?
You're never too old to learnnew tricks, and that's what AI
is forcing many of us to doagain or be left back in the
station Stacey.
(19:15):
I like this other piece thatwe're going to talk about here,
which is about serenity andcalmness and emotional wellness,
right, and clarity, becauseAudrey introduced me to an app
known as Headspace.
Audrey introduced me to an appknown as Headspace, and
(19:37):
Headspace really is an app thathelps you to focus on your
breathing and meditate, right, and it walks you through it so
nicely, so calmly, that ifyou're having problems, say,
falling asleep or feeling alittle bit of extra anxiety or
stress, this is an app thatabsolutely will help you.
Coach Stacy (19:53):
Yeah, yeah, and it
is that it's using the tools
right to your advantage.
I've definitely heard ofHeadspace.
I've used Calm for a long time.
I use Abide, which is aChristian-centered app, and it's
(20:17):
telling, doing sleepmeditations to your point and in
ways that you're able to dosome breathing kind of reset
yourself as you prepare forsleep, and for me, I like that I
can do so with the word of Godkind of going into my ears, and
(20:44):
so we really have opportunitiesto use technology in ways that
benefit us.
I also have seen I know you'rean Android user, wayne- Is that
a curse?
I am an Apple user, I'm justApple platform.
There is a journaling app and Iknow that.
(21:16):
I imagine that there are otherjournaling apps that we wouldn't
leave you Android users out,but there's a journaling app,
and so what an opportunity forthose of us that feel like we're
really trying to manage ourtime.
Yet we're on the go often andwe can really utilize this tool
(21:38):
to start to get some of thosethoughts out of our head.
Oftentimes I'd like a goodbrain dump and to get those
thoughts out of my head andcapture them somewhere and using
notes and speak to text orjournal app and just speaking it
(21:59):
out and it turns to text isjust a wonderful gift and one
that I strongly encourage folksto consider you android users.
Coach Wayne (22:08):
It's funny, this
great android, that I use stacy,
my samsung.
It helps me in that when I'm atthe doctor's office and you get
that white coat, white coach,uh syndrome which is a lot of
people their pressure goes upbecause they're at the doctor
and they're anxious.
I usually there's a there's anapp that literally, as you
(22:32):
breathe into your ab and exhale, the app is guiding you through
the exercise right and so beforeI get settled in to get that
cusp on my arm for the pressurereading, I get into it and it's
walking me through some deepbreathing just to level down and
(22:54):
so I can feel good and not feelrushed and anxious to normalize
my pressure.
Coach Stacy (23:04):
So that's a nugget,
wayne.
That is a nugget because somany of us go to the doctor, so
not only we go to the doctor.
Yes, we're often rushing rightto get there and to get there on
time office, and then we'rethere and then there's a battery
(23:28):
of questions and, like you said, they put the cuff on and next
thing, you know, the reading ishigh.
And so this idea, I love it,love it, love it.
(23:55):
This idea of being veryintentional, even as you go into
what could be slightly highstress situations, to use AI, to
use technology in a way thathelps you center yourself for
the moment.
That's a nugget.
Felt that it was worthrepeating for our listener.
Coach Wayne (24:04):
Thank you, stacey,
you're not worried about your
pressure, stacey, because you'regoing to.
You know you have a differentform of AI and that's in the way
of your lovely pet.
I just love him.
Coach Stacy (24:21):
Well, he's not
artificial, though the pet is
not artificial, Although I dounderstand that.
You know folks have been usingvarious AI platforms for
companionship and conversation.
I don't know that, I haveenough knowledge to really
(24:41):
recommend that, but there areopportunities for personal
growth and goal setting using AIand I think you know, sometime
putting our thoughts or ourdestination even into an AI
generator can really help usbegin to identify habits we need
(25:06):
to develop, identify ways oractions we need to take, and so
let's talk a little bit aboutthat.
Coach Wayne (25:14):
Wayne, are we
looking at the personal growth
and goal setting?
Coach Stacy (25:22):
Absolutely.
Coach Wayne (25:23):
So I'm big about
that piece because, as a life
coach, you know it behooves meto bypass that opportunity, and
so I have talked about usingNotion, which is a means of just
note-taking and tracking and,by the way, it's also helpful
(25:47):
for me, as I'm collectinginformation, to deliver a book
one day.
But the idea that there aretools out there for personal
growth and goal setting isimportant.
A lot of us know the ideabehind tracking and creating
smart goals and creating smartgoals, but we rely on the old
(26:17):
horse and buggy method to dothis and miss out, and we're
suggesting things like Habitica, which helps to really monitor
your progress and help you tocurate helpful habits and keeps
you accountable.
That's the thing.
So taking yesterday's or lastweek, when we talked about the
(26:37):
taking tiny steps to createhabits, stacey Habitica helps us
to do that.
So it engages you, holds youaccountable and you can see the
developments in progress or not.
Coach Stacy (26:54):
Yeah, I think that
there are.
It and there are other AIgenerators you can use whichever
your preference is at thispoint, and if you don't have a
preference, start with one thatis free and easily accessible.
There are multiple AIgenerators out there, but to be
(27:18):
able to tell it, I want todevelop a habit of waking up
every morning at seven andspending 20 minutes reading a
devotion, and so please developa habit tracker for me to begin
(27:42):
to track my consistency, consistency and to then be able
to hit enter and have it pullout for you or push out for you
a very clear, easy habit tracker.
I mean, for some of us it canbecome a little addictive, but
(28:03):
the goal here is to use it foryour personal growth.
And, as you said, use it foryour personal growth.
And, as you said, I can recallbeing in school and as a health
educator, smart goals were likeit.
Everything had to be a smartgoal and they could take some
time to write.
And when you talk to an AIgenerator and you say I'd like
(28:33):
to develop a couple of smartgoals, this is the destination I
want to lose 15 pounds in 90days.
That's my goal, and help medevelop a couple of smart goals,
along with a habit tracker toget there and to monitor my
progress.
To get there and to monitor myprogress.
Coach Wayne (28:52):
Absolutely,
absolutely.
I um I'll tell you not thatwe're suggesting that you turn
over your life to thedemagoguery of AI.
Coach Stacy (29:07):
Right.
Coach Wayne (29:08):
Right, because some
people are.
It's all about that.
We're not saying surrender, that because deep within is that
spirit that we carry, which isnot replaceable by any AI in the
world, right, the God spirit.
And so we're saying that thehuman connection is still
important.
But, given that we understandthat, why not take it's kind of
(29:33):
like going to the doctor andsaying, listen, I don't believe
in technology, so I want you tolisten to my heart rather than
to get an image and take care ofit?
You know, it's the same thing.
I think we just have torecognize that we can work in
tandem and in collaborating withthe tools and use them rather
(29:56):
than have them use us than havethem use us, and, in so doing,
keep open to learning.
If you have to take a quickcourse on AI, if, in fact,
you're on the floor as a factoryperson and you're seeing robots
come in, your time may bemarked, unless you're one of the
persons who is helping tocontrol, contain or measure or
(30:19):
program the robots.
So let's be real, okay.
Coach Stacy (30:22):
Yeah, I agree with
you.
It is important to rememberthat artificial intelligence is
to be a resource, a support forhuman intelligence, and sometime
AI can give you the data.
Yet you may need a partner tohelp you walk through, to get to
(30:47):
that goal, to achieve yourbigger vision, and that's really
what coaching is all about.
Yes, you could probably put ina couple of prompts and get a
little coaching nugget from AI,but the reality is that you want
a partner to help you kind ofmove forward with clarity and
(31:07):
confidence and taking thatartificial intelligence
information and coupling thatwith the human intelligence that
you already have to live yourbest life.
And so Wayne and I are reallyexcited about this episode and
to talk about AI.
We both like AI and utilize itdifferently in our day-to-day,
(31:35):
and yet here we are on thisplatform, right to humans,
because there is nothing, noartificial intelligence, will
replace this human connection, this human conversation that
we're having about AI and aboutlife and about forward momentum.
Coach Wayne (31:56):
I would raise my
hat, but I left it in the house.
Coach Stacy (32:00):
I would raise my
hat, but I left it in the house.
Salute to you.
Coach Wayne (32:02):
Stacey, you can
flip your hair.
So well said, I flipped mybeard, but this is good stuff.
I just want to invite folksbefore we wrap up Stacey, if
you're listening, embrace AI,don't get lost in it.
As to Stacey's point, if you'reat midlife, it speaks volumes
(32:25):
to the fact that you have earnedsome credit for passing through
all the mire that you havegotten to get here so far.
So you have something to offerwisdom, as we say, sage, rather
than just the age and theexperience and so take that to
(32:47):
the bank and cash it along withthe technology that you want to
use to augment and optimize yourpersonal and professional
experience.
Coach Stacy (33:00):
I love that, wayne.
I love it and challenge ourlistener to say you know, if
you're not jumping in, considerwhat's one app, one opportunity
that you might want to take onthis week to engage with AI in a
(33:22):
way that is going to benefityou, not just to say like, oh
okay, I played with it, but in away that's going to benefit you
and let us know, share with usin the comments your thoughts
and your experience, and weinvite you to stay in touch and
really support this conversationabout AI and how we can
(33:48):
collectively, as this important, critical, super smart, savvy
and wisdom-filled midlifecommunity, how we can all move
forward together midlifecommunity, how we can all move
forward together.
Coach Wayne (34:04):
Yeah, in a future
show, stacey, we might want to
touch a little bit on the levelsof AI.
Of course, we talked earlierabout using it in the home,
which is what they call narrowintelligence, ani AI helps us to
find our mapping and tell usthe time.
And then there is thisgeneration AGI, which is called
(34:26):
Artificial General Intelligence, and the last one that's coming
up, which is ASI ArtificialSuper Intelligence, or
Generative Intelligence.
We should have a whole show andbring an expert about that,
because that's when AI startscreating for itself the codes
that we now do at a faster, muchmore efficient rate, and so
(34:49):
that's a whole nother show and,I think, another level that we
may need some help to bring anexpert in to speak to.
Coach Stacy (34:56):
Yeah, yeah, I
couldn't agree with you more.
What I you know In the line ofwork that I'm in, there's a lot
of conversation about the use ofAI in medicine, the use of AI
in research, and so, again, it'susing this artificial
intelligence to enhance, tobolster, to really make human
(35:20):
intelligence even more efficientand effective.
So we could have conversationsfor days about this.
Our hope is that in thisepisode, we have given you an
opportunity to consider andopportunities to act on using AI
in midlife for productivity, for possibility and for personal
(35:43):
growth.
Wayne, how do the people themget in touch with?
Coach Wayne (35:48):
you.
The people them can get intouch with me.
You've been to Jamaica.
They can get in touch with meby simply going to my website,
viptransformativelivingcom andsee all my handles there, stacey
, and after you speak to howthey find you.
(36:08):
I want to let folks know thatin the show notes and in the
comments I'll drop a link so youcan get a free assessment from
me.
Stacey, how do they find you?
We want to include that.
Coach Stacy (36:23):
We want to include
that free assessment, and we
have to make sure, wayne, as wethen move over to our podcast
platform, that for our podcastlisteners, please make sure you
check the show notes, becauseany link that we refer to will
be there.
I can always be reached atthestacymlewiscom If you are
checking us out on LinkedIn,facebook, all of those lovely
(36:45):
places you know how to reach me.
Indeed, check the show notes onthe podcast players, because we
can reach me there too.
We are so thrilled that youhave joined us today.
What else you got to say, wayne?
Coach Wayne (37:03):
