WASHINGTON — On Sunday, federal agents made a big to-do on social media about removing a community banner that said ‘Chinga La Migra’ (translation: f*ck ICE) from a public plaza in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of Washington, D.C.
A patrol of eight masked agents recorded a video of themselves acting brave as they triumphantly removed the banner which has hung in the plaza since January.
The video was posted to social media by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) where it has been viewed 2.4 million times.
One masked agent can he heard saying said they were there to “take America back” via this clownishly performative Internet effort by the agency.
Well, Mount Pleasant residents have since made a new banner and hung it in the same spot where it was being watched over last night by residents from a local artist group when I stopped to record my first ‘man on the street’ interview for Migrant Insider.
The interviewee is a local Latino who told me that to him the banner means “everything.”
