For more than two decades, Brenn Hill has stood under a cowboy hat and behind a microphone on countless stages entertaining audiences, blending his voice with bending guitar strings in a performance style all his own. The songs he sings are also mostly his own, earning Brenn recognition as one of the premier musical chroniclers of cowboy life.
We had the opportunity to sit down with Brenn during the 40th National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, NV where he was performing for his 34th year! Surely a record held by very few artists. He shared some great stories behind the songs that he has written in his career, like the man behind his song "Monster on his back" Bill Hadlock. He also shared the incredible story behind his original tune "One hand in the riggin" that ended up being released as a duet with Chris and Ned LeDoux 20 years after Chris's death! If that one doesn't hit you square in the gut, I'm not sure one will!
