Speaker 1 (03:01):
I sure did, Rocky?

Speaker 10 (03:02):
Okay, Dylan may God that villa sailed to Elmer Eustace
shame as usual, hun in the Rocky. Look in the
files and see if we got a wine colored Royal
Coupe model seventy six. Okay, got a customer for a
new job.

Speaker 6 (03:20):
Just itching to pay a big price.

Speaker 5 (03:23):
Well, there's a model seventy six Royal Cope listed in
the bosses files.

Speaker 10 (03:30):
All right, Rocky, come on, let's go out and see
if we can pick one up.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Well, they're the records, mister Carter.

Speaker 11 (03:48):
In the past three months has been a positive epidemic
effects of new cause.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Mister Benson, hasn't a single car been recovered? Not one.

Speaker 11 (03:55):
That's why the Youngerwriter's Association is asking you to take
the case.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Very well, you, I'll have to have a free hand,
no matter how strange my methods may seem. Of course,
Now what can we do for you? First? I'd like
a list of all the cars stolen in the last
three months together, were the names of their owners?

Speaker 11 (04:11):
Certainly, Oh, mss Collins, have you the car theft file?

Speaker 1 (04:16):
Oh, here's mister Benson. I thought you'd want here it is?

Speaker 11 (04:18):
Oh, thank you, that's all right now, Mss Collins Benson,

Please call me. If I'm not in call Ms Collins.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
Oh.

Speaker 11 (04:31):
Here, here's her home phone number and here's my thanks.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got some work to do.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Oh me, oh, asked Patsy, if you can there to
give up playing with those radio sets for a minute.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Mister Benson from the Underwriters is here.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
God, I was just going to call him, all right,
show him and Patsy right, Nick, mister Benson, were you
step in here, I'll say I will.

Speaker 11 (05:19):
Mister Carter, do you realize that it's forty eight hours
since we gave you a free hand on this case,
and in that time you haven't lifted a finger?

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Oh? Yes, I have, mister Benson, in my own way,
of course.

Speaker 11 (05:29):
Do you know that another one of our clients had
his car stolen last night?

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Yes? I know, and I'm sorry. And I couldn't do
anything last night. Now I can. Well that's something. At
least I'll need three cars from you. What are a
new cars? Three new cars?

Speaker 12 (05:43):
What for that?

Speaker 3 (05:43):
I can't tell you. I give me the three cars,
and I think I can promise you action in a hurry.

Speaker 11 (05:49):
Well, all right, all right, I guess it can be arranged.
I'll have him here this afternoon.

Speaker 13 (05:55):
But frankly, mister Carter, we want results.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Well, Nick, I just left the last of those three cars,
a seventh in Washington Street.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
Now, maybe you'll break down, tell me what this is
all about.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
Why, Patsy, I thought you'd figure the whole thing out
right now.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
All I know is that you had me parked those
three beautiful new cars in different parts of the city,
and they're supposed to be bait for this car stealing gang.
But why don't you have me put them someplace where
you can watch them?

Speaker 3 (06:29):
But I am watching them?

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Oh are you kidding?

Speaker 3 (06:32):
I Am not under the back seat of each of
those cars. I've hidden one of those little radios you said.
I was playing with, what a really small compact sending
sets with an individual signal and a two mile range
cats on.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Oh I think I do, Nick. If anybody steals one
of those cars, the.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
Radio sending out a signal automatically, I'm the direction finder
in my car. We can follow the stolen car straight
to the gang's hideout. Oh, if that gang will just
pick up one of those cars they have.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
How do you like that for service?

Speaker 3 (07:02):
Wait, it's the signal from the Royal Coop you parked
at the corner of six and Johnson. We've got to
get there best.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
It must be straight ahead of us, nake. The signal's
been getting louder ever since we turned that last corner.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
Yeah, seeve, they're taking it out. This road must be
headed for some place in the suburbs.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
There's nothing inside except that big truck up ahead. Why
don't you pass it?

Speaker 3 (07:33):
Because that wouldn't do any good.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
What do you mean?

Speaker 3 (07:37):
I mean the stolen cars on that truck under that
big canvas.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
I never thought of that.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
Neither to die, not until I saw that the truck
was the only thing in side. Pretty clever way of
transporting a stolen car, isn't.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
Oh, I'll say it is a freight train coming and I.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
Better stop back here.

Speaker 7 (07:54):
I don't want to get too close to the truck.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
And I sneak the truck's not stopping, Thanks.

Speaker 11 (07:58):
Scot When it's hard to get across the tracks in
front of the train.

Speaker 7 (08:05):
Counted they meet it, but we can't.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
And look at the length of this train.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
It must be a mile long.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
Worse than that, it is stopping.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
How do you like that?

Speaker 3 (08:17):
I don't.

Speaker 11 (08:18):
But if darn thing gets out of our way, that
truckle be so far away we won't be able to
pick up the radio.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
Say oh, certainly looks as though lucks against us. Well.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
So Nick lost the first round in his battle to
break up the ring of car thieves. But he's lost
more than that, he's lost a brand new car. Lean
to him to use his bait. We'll see what that
leads to in just a moment. Now back to the
case of the Lucrative Rex. Today is Nick Carter Adventure,

(08:56):
brought to you by old Dutch Clincher. It is the
following afternoon and Nick and Patsy and Nick's car are
cruising around town hoping to pick up a signal from
one of the other cars they planted as bait.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
Hadn't been for that gone freight train, I might have
the gang rounded up by it.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
Now, Nick, listen, that's the signal from the radio and
the Royal coop that they got away with.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
Yeah, it's getting louder.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
How it's getting saved again.

Speaker 3 (09:27):
And did you notice that it got louder just as
that line colored Royal coup ahead passed us.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
Hey, that's the car that was stolen from us.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
It's not getting awake from us again. Want to force
it to the curb? Hey, Hollow, what's the big idea?
Follow and stop?

Speaker 1 (09:46):
What stupid? What's out?

Speaker 7 (09:52):
What's going on here?

Speaker 3 (09:53):
You tried to ray? Oh I didn't. I just want
to stop you. That's a stolen car.

Speaker 7 (09:57):
You're driving stolen car crazy. I just fought it.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
A recal pays podcast for it, maybe, but it's still
a stolen car.

Speaker 8 (10:04):
Oh see here, I'm Judge Pierson and a few things
you're pissing.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
My name is Carter, Nick Carter.

Speaker 6 (10:10):
Oh oh sure, I've heard of you with Carter. But
I still say I bought this car legally. Look here's
a little saale.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
Mm hm, sold you by a man named Elmer Eustace,
addressed three one nine two Grand Avenue, and they will
sales in order. All right. The engine number gives us wrong,
but it can't be wrong.

Speaker 6 (10:32):
Look at the number on the engine and see for yourself.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
Thanks, Judger, will this is the.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
Car, all right? I recognize that tiny scratch on the door.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
So the engine number will clinch it. Let me get
the hood. Now, let's see D four seven seven seven
eight nine.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
Well, that's the number on the bill of sale. But
that's not the motor number of the Coup that was
stolen from us.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
No, it's not south, you say, the real motor number
hasn't been tampered with him anyway.

Speaker 7 (11:03):
Well are you satisfied?

Speaker 3 (11:06):
Yes, I yes, I've made a mistake. Yuh, I told
you so.

Speaker 13 (11:11):
Next time, better make sure of your fish.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
Nita, let him go. You didn't even look to see
whether the radio was under the back seat.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
Didn't have to, Betsy. That's the car that was stolen,
all right, even if the engine number is different. Well, Betsy, listen,
go down to the Motor Vehicle Bureau and find out
who originally registered a Royal Coup with motor number D
four seven seven seven eight nine.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
Right, where are you going?

Speaker 3 (11:36):
I'm want to drop in on mister Elmer Eustace, the
man who sold that car to Judge Pearson. Yes, I'd

(12:02):
like to speak to mister Eustace. Is he in?

Speaker 1 (12:05):
She's in, young man. I don't know if he'll speak
to you.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
I think you will, MAA come in please, Oh.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
No, young man, Elma doesn't live here.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
He lives next door next door, Yes, right there on
the other side of the fence.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
But that's a cemetery.

Speaker 12 (12:18):
Yes, Elma's been dead twenty years. So Elma EUSt this
has been dead for twenty years.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
Yes, Patsy, very dead.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
Huh.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
Now why did you find out if the Motor Vehicle Bureau? Oh?

Speaker 2 (12:40):
Well, the car you asked about was registered several days
ago by a man named Robert Anderson.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
He lives only a few blocks from here. So on
the way back I stoppedhim to see him.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
What did he say?

Speaker 2 (12:48):
Well, his story, nickas that he bought a wine colored
Royal coop and wrecked at the same day.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
He gave the rest for a man named Frank Dillon to.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Pay for damage the car did to Dylan's bomb when
it ran off the road. The car, I mean, not barn.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
That backs up my very completely, m Patsy. How would
you like to join me in a nice cacophonic auto accident?
All's that, Patsy.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
I guess my football helmet zan's had enough.

Speaker 3 (13:23):
Nick.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
I feel just like a movie stunt girls that be
pushed off a cliff.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
We'll just hold tight. I won't be any danger, you hope. Well,
look as Dylan's barn just around the turn down at
the bottom of the hill.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
I can see it in the headlights.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
Nick, my hunch is right. Dylan's part of the gang.
My bed is that he's responsible for the accident young
Anderson had and somehow or other got Anderson to turn
the wreck car over to him.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
And if you think the gang also still the Royal
Crew we used as bait, it.

Speaker 3 (13:49):
Was the same model as Anderson's, Patsy, only they took
the engine out of Anderson's car and put it in
a stolen car. Why would they do that because they
got the bill of sale from Anderson and when they
put the engine from his car to the car are
they stole. The whole deal looked very legal.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
So that's how they disguise the cars they stole.

Speaker 3 (14:05):
That's how. And now we're going to have the same
kind of accident Anderson.

Speaker 5 (14:09):
There.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
Okay, Patsy, here's the curve. Hold tight.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
You all right, Petsy, all things considered, quick.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
Give me your helmet. I'll put it in the suitcase
of mine. There. Now they're a a sight. Hey, you
pretend to be unconscious, Pency. You're going to pick you
up and carry you.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
I could learn to like this.

Speaker 3 (14:37):
Hey, you too, don't try to get away. What do
you mean get away? We've had an accident.

Speaker 6 (14:41):
Yeah, I'll see you have darn.

Speaker 7 (14:43):
You knock my born down.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
Must have done a thousand dollars.

Speaker 7 (14:46):
Where of the damage to.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
I'll settle for the damage. But this lady's hurt. You
gotta get in the house and call a doctor. What
about my ball, I'll take care of that later. You
can keep the car for security. Well, all right, come
on this way. All right, I'm following.

Speaker 6 (14:57):
You and keep on following him. Cutting. This is a
gun against your banks, so no funny business.

Speaker 10 (15:17):
All right.

Speaker 6 (15:18):
Gotta put the damon that sofa and sit down there
with her.

Speaker 3 (15:22):
Anything you say, I tell you what, Oh, make yourself comfortable.
Cut in. Thanks, I am calling the big boss.

Speaker 6 (15:33):
Ask about your funeral.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
See that there lots of flowers.

Speaker 6 (15:37):
Why you won't be smelling them? And our boss is Williams. Listen,
Rocky and mere Rid Dillons. You're giving him his payoff
tonight with him? Walks Nick Cotton. Yeah, tried to pull
a fake accident, but me and Rocky got the drop

(15:58):
on him.

Speaker 7 (15:59):
Now look for he's got an idea.

Speaker 6 (16:01):
He's already wrecked his cars. He said, why don't we
put it on the truck and haul it out to
the old Morgan quarry.

Speaker 7 (16:07):
It's about sixty feety me sure we can put him
and the.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
Girl in the car and push it off. You're going
to kill us, easy, betch you. We're not yet.

Speaker 7 (16:16):
That's the idea, Just a nice clean accident.

Speaker 10 (16:22):
Okay, goodbye, Well, Caddy, you can pick up the dame again.

Speaker 6 (16:28):
The four of us are going for a little ride,
but only me and Rocky.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
Are coming back.

Speaker 5 (16:47):
Gee, catter, you should make a pretty picture standing there
on the edge of the quarry holding that dame in
your boundary.

Speaker 7 (16:53):
Rocky, give me your handbag here.

Speaker 6 (16:56):
Okay, so be right way.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
I think I've got the car balanced right on the
edge of the quarry.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
Means they won't have to push their car once they
get us inside. Bessy, I want to swim find me.
Are you the quarry is almost out with the water.
You can't see it ripple on the moonlight.

Speaker 1 (17:12):
Yes, it's only about twenty feet from the top.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
Okay, we were to put a fast one on these tugs. Okay,
got it.

Speaker 6 (17:18):
We're all set now.

Speaker 7 (17:19):
If you that's what you think a hotep? Ptsy, Hey,
you can't.

Speaker 1 (17:26):
They jumped into the quarry, all.

Speaker 3 (17:27):
Right, Patsy, I do make it easy enough. Make as
little noise as you can. They can't see us, but
they might judge wherever you are by the sound.

Speaker 7 (17:35):
I think you're a wife guy.

Speaker 3 (17:36):
Don't you cut it? Let's see how you like this?
What that magic?

Speaker 4 (17:54):
Well, for the moment at least, Nick and Patsy have
beaten the crooks at their own game.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
But they're not out of anger yet.

Speaker 4 (18:01):
We'll see what happens next in just a moment. Now
back to the case of the Lucrative Wrecks. Today's adventure
with Nick Carter brought to you by all Dutch planers.
We pick up our story with Nick and Patsy in
the water in the old quarry, as and rockies standing

(18:23):
at the edge of the quarry are shooting at them
through the darkness.

Speaker 3 (18:33):
They stopped firing and they haven't hear us.

Speaker 1 (18:35):
That doesn't mean they.

Speaker 3 (18:36):
Won't stay close to the edge of the quarry. The
Rdrogress can't see us as they move to the other side.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
I suppose they do.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
I guess is that they have no more bullets like
count of the shots there were twelve to six apiece.

Speaker 1 (18:47):
Maybe they're reloading. You gotta take that chance, snake Lange
of Rocky. Here's well, you.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
Can pull ourselves up on it. What are you going
to do? Shoot us with empty guns? That's why you're wrong.
I always carry a little spar and a waterproof case.

Speaker 7 (19:11):
Quit your kid, call this kidding, hies, But don't worry.
Doesn't never get out of there, just drowned.

Speaker 1 (19:23):
Like raped in a trap? Is he right? Maybe we
can't get out of here?

Speaker 3 (19:27):
Maybe not, but we're going to try. Well, Patsy, that
wasn't so bad, was it.

Speaker 1 (19:43):
Now that it's all over, it wasn't so bad. But
for a few minutes, Nick, I thought we'd never lived.
To get back here to the office.

Speaker 3 (19:49):
Wow, we made it. And that's all the come.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
Dry clothes held too. I'm gonna have these extra things
here at the office.

Speaker 3 (19:56):
Hey what now, Nick, I've got an important phone call.
As soon as I'm through, I'm got going again. Okay, Hello, hello,

(20:18):
miss Collins, this is Nick Carter. Oh yes, mister Carter,
I have an important message for mister Benson. He doesn't
seem to be home. If you take it down and
try to locate him.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
Why, of course, what is a message?

Speaker 3 (20:27):
Just tell him that I've identified three of the gang
and have a police drag net out for them. Hope
to have them in custody by morning.

Speaker 1 (20:33):
Mister Benson will be delighted to hear that. Miss Carter.
I'll see that he gets the message as soon.

Speaker 3 (20:37):
As possible, Thanks very much, Miss Collins, didn't I that's dead?
And now I'm going up to find that gang's headquarters.

Speaker 1 (20:46):
Find their headquarters. But Nick, they didn't give us a
single clue to its location.

Speaker 3 (20:50):
Oh yes, they did, just one clue.

Speaker 11 (20:52):
Huh.

Speaker 3 (20:53):
And I'm going to build that clue into a whole
court full of convictions. But Nick used to hear by
the phone. So when I call, I'm running with Sart
Mathieson and every man he can get his hands out.

Speaker 6 (21:12):
Look, you two, the boss will be here in a minute,
and I'm doing the talking. You understand, Yes, sure we understand.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
And that's the boss.

Speaker 6 (21:23):
Now open the door, Rockie, Sure.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
That's coming boss.

Speaker 7 (21:31):
We're all here like you wanted close that door.

Speaker 11 (21:34):
Yes, sirs, fools bunglers, what do you mean so you've
got rid of Nick Carter?

Speaker 1 (21:39):
Did you sure we did? And I suppose it was
his ghost that just telephoned me.

Speaker 2 (21:43):
Just just telephoned you, Nick carleor he did, and he's
identified all three of your.

Speaker 12 (21:48):
Frida, it ain't possible you didn't kill him, So.

Speaker 7 (21:51):
Now I gotta kill you all of your Wait listen, you'll.

Speaker 11 (21:54):
Fail, and you put me in a dangerous position if
I let you live.

Speaker 3 (21:57):
You know what it's right?

Speaker 1 (22:01):
Did he come?

Speaker 3 (22:01):
Pretty good act you put on this morning when I
came out to question you. But I didn't stay fool
you won't. I'll shot the first man that moved. We
ain't moving. I'll drop that down. Missus Eustace, kick it
over this way.

Speaker 6 (22:16):
That's their Hey, look, Cord, how'd you find us?

Speaker 3 (22:19):
You find out at first? If Missus Eustace doesn't mind,
I'd like to remove her. Wait you wait, This is
going to be quite a shock to mister Benson, isn't it.
Miss Collins?

Speaker 6 (22:30):
Hey, what's this Miss Collins stuff?

Speaker 4 (22:33):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (22:33):
I thought she was Missus Eustace's both you see boys.
By wearing this gray wig, miss Collins became Missus Eustace.
Will loud bee. At the time Miss Collins gets out
of jail, she won't have to wear a wig, her
own hair will be gray.

Speaker 1 (22:56):
Well, I'll be darned. So Ms Collins was a mastermind
the car stealing ring.

Speaker 3 (23:01):
That's right, Patsy. As Benson's secretary, working right there in
the office of the Underwriter's Association, she was in the
perfect position to furnit the others with the information that
made the racket a success.

Speaker 1 (23:10):
So why did she play the part of Alma Houstace's
poor old widow.

Speaker 3 (23:13):
Oh that was a smoke screen to hide her real
identity from the gang.

Speaker 12 (23:17):
Ah.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
I imagine her original plan was that when the racket
petered out, missus Eustace would just fanish, and since none
of the gang knew that she was also Miss Collins,
they wouldn't be able to blackmail her later or impiplat
her in any way.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
But I still don't see what made you suspect her.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
At one clue, I mentioned Patsy one ace phone from
Dylan's place. I counted the clicks as he dialed. Three
three three four four four was a number he called.
That was the same number Benson had previously given me
in case I ever had to call Miss Collins. That
was all I needed to know, Jeeve.

Speaker 2 (23:49):
But it sounds simple when you explain it. Now, perhaps
you'll tell me how you found the hideout.

Speaker 3 (23:55):
Oh that was easy, you see. When I phoned miss
Collins and in that way let her know you and
I had escaped, I knew she'd head straight for the hideout.

Speaker 1 (24:03):
Why, of course?

Speaker 3 (24:04):
Well I got to the place she lives just before
she left.

Speaker 1 (24:06):
Oh but how'd you find out where she lived?

Speaker 3 (24:08):
Had Maddy trace her phone number? He gave me her
address this morning?

Speaker 1 (24:11):
And where did she live?

Speaker 3 (24:12):
Nick Wright? Smack across the street from where Missus Eustace lives.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
Well, what do you know?

Speaker 3 (24:17):
From there on? It was a cinch. I saw her
when she came out of the house, faxed up at
Missus Eustace, and then followed her straight to the hideout.
Any more questions?

Speaker 1 (24:26):
Hmm?

Speaker 12 (24:27):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (24:28):
Yes, teacher? Who owns that spiffy new sedan parked outside
of the curb?

Speaker 3 (24:33):
That? Well, Patsy, it just happens that was on order
for Ms Collins, But since she won't be needing a
car for ten years or so, the underwriters bought her
and insisted on presenting it to something.

Speaker 1 (24:45):
But oh, that's wonderful, Miss Bonne.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
May I give you a ride?

Speaker 1 (24:50):
Home by mister Carter. It will be a pleasure. It
isn't every day that a poor working girl that truck.
It's going to skid rider for my car, oh naked.
That is astoniest break.

Speaker 3 (25:04):
Here, I get a brand new car, don't even get
a chance to blow the horn every week. At this time,
two great names are joined
