Souls, maps, and a 2 a.m. finals—this one has it all. We kick off with our leap into Crix for Mark IV and plans for a 2v2 that finally uses full objectives and scenario play, then rewind to a bleary-eyed but uplifting Worlds recap. England’s 5–0 run and Team USA’s podium weren’t just results; they were a reminder that the Warmachine community is buzzing with encouragement, humor, and a fresh willingness to help new players get in the game.

From there we get practical. An apology for a potential misunderstanding, then we talk about a kid-friendly on-ramp: quick-start rules that actually teach, inexpensive minis (hello, 3D prints) for demos. We also cover small upgrades with big impact—why mouse pad mats beat vinyl for stability, how map themes set the mood, and where pricing makes it easier to scale a club night.

Then it’s time to open the crypt. Our Graveborn deep dive tracks the Deathless from sealed tombs to uneasy alliances, with Infernal factions playing both sides for souls. Anathia, the Imperishable Desolation, rises through a blend of vanity, provocation, and promise, bringing Execrators, Barrow Ghouls, and Charnel Hounds to the field. Even at journeyman levels, the rules nod to the narrative: soul denial, control tools, and stalwart protectors that make leadership matter. We weigh aesthetic debates with a smile—oversized armor and tiny heads are practically a Warmachine rite of passage—and look ahead to how subfactions might power up on full release.

All of this loops back to why we play: we want tables that welcome, teach, and challenge. Whether you’re chasing podiums or painting with your kids, there’s room here to grow. If you’re curious about Cryx, Graveborn lore, or how to build a healthier local meta, hit play and join the conversation. Subscribe, share this with a friend who loves a good undead story, and tell us: is your scene chill hobby nights, or tournament grind?

SPEAKER_00 (00:18):
Hey there, listeners, and JT here, bringing
you fresh perspectives on allthings war machine and building
the community we surroundourselves with.
Remember, we're not justtactics.
Hey Angus.
Hey Tony.
How's it going?
Oh, not too bad.
How's your hobby been?

SPEAKER_01 (00:34):
Uh, pretty good.
Working on a bunch of Cricks.
Finally made the uh plunge intoMark IV Cricks.
Got the uh command starter set,the battle group, and Morton
Abra.
There you go.

SPEAKER_00 (00:47):
After uh doing the last episode, I also took the
dive into Crix.
I got the command starter andthe battle group as well.
And by the time this episodereleases, you and I are gonna
play our local group teaming upwith Crix.

SPEAKER_01 (01:03):
That's the plan.

SPEAKER_00 (01:04):
Yeah.
I don't know how well we'll do,and we'll definitely report back
in afterwards.
I have no doubt we will bevictorious.
I I hope so.
Especially seeing the face he'smaking it definitely uh is one
of doubt.
As somebody who's never playedCrix before, I'm gonna lead in
with Inviscrus and kind of giveit a go and see how it happens.

(01:25):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_01 (01:26):
And our group wants to be pesky and raise up the
point value per player.
I think we're looking at 50points a player instead of 30,
which I mean that's fine, but itwould have been really nifty to
bring out another heavy jackwith Morton Abra's feat in a
60-point game.

SPEAKER_00 (01:43):
In a 30-point game?
Well, if we're doing 2v2.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, nothing like revitalizingand bringing everything up and
then, oh look, I get to almostdouble my points.
Yep.
Uh it's a glorious feat.
Yeah, it is.
Who doesn't want to spare heavy?
Right.
Yeah, so I end up sitting therewatching Worlds, and uh I will

(02:08):
definitely tell you the firstday I got up, and for us, it was
at like two something in themorning.
I tried to get up.
I woke up and then I fell backasleep.
So I missed day one.
Day two, I was like, I'm notmissing this.
I wake up, I set my alarm, andfor me, it's only a 30-minute

(02:28):
difference from when I normallywake up, 30, 45-minute
difference, anyways.
I get up and I go and I getready and I'm all excited, and I
start watching and I punch in,you know, good morning from
Wisconsin, and they're like, hey, we got somebody from
Wisconsin.
I was like, yes.
And then I fell asleep again.

(02:50):
But I woke up and then Iactually got to catch the final
match between England andGermany, which was really great.
I wish I was uh able to stayawake a little bit more, but it
it was a rough low bout at work,so I ended up getting quite

(03:10):
tired.
It was great games.
Everything I've seen on Facebookhas been nothing but positive.
Everybody's been great, everyone's uh just showing how
wonderful the community is, howmuch they're engaging with each
other, and how much they supporteach other, even though some
people didn't place the way theywould have wanted, but everybody

(03:31):
was still just super hyped, hada wonderful time, all of the
positivity in the world.
Well, were folks playing in theEngland versus Germany game?
Uh, that's a good question.
That was United Kingdom team, the England Paddington, they had
Storm Legion, Chimera,Infernals, Gravediggers, and

(03:54):
Brine Bloods, and the theGermany team had Gravediggers,
Chimera, Storm Legion, OldHombre, and Necrofactorum.
And it it was just it was agood, solid set of games.
Everybody was having a goodtime.
Uh, if I remember correctly,England swept that one.

(04:18):
Tragic.
They went five and zero.
That team went five-and-zero forthe entire tournament.

SPEAKER_01 (04:25):
That doesn't bode well for Sunday.
No Crix Victory.

SPEAKER_00 (04:29):
No.
But Team Condor from America didplay second.
Which that that I kind ofthought was a little weird.
I I know I don't understand howthe scoring works.
I know it's it's team based, soeven though you're not in the
finals, you could still end upwinning some things.
But Team USA came back, placedsecond, and their team was

(04:54):
Chimera, Gravediggers, SeaRaiders, Necrofactorum, and
Infernals.
Seeing how the team shows up andthey did really well.
Very happy to see, if I remembercorrectly, America placed all
three of our teams placed in thetop ten.
Okay.
And we put one of the teamspodium, so that was great.

(05:16):
Something I'm going to belooking at more in the future is
I'm going to start looking intoexactly how the tournament rules
work.
I find some of thoseinteresting.
I know 2025's almost over, andI'm sure that the new rules will
be coming out shortly.
And I think I'll probably startdiving in on those when the new
uh 2026 comes out.

(05:36):
It'll make it a little bit moreto learn on and to kind of
build, especially with ourgaming group.
I know we're we're looking attrying to become more, I don't
want to say aggressive with therules and starting to actually
We're looking to actually usethe rules.
Uh well we use the rules.
We just play Assassination allthe time, and I think we're
actually going to start playingwith proper objectives and for

(05:59):
some of the group.
I've been using cards when Iplay in other groups.
Show off.
Yeah.
So some of the players in ourgroup, they're still learning
really how the game functionsand the dynamics, and they
haven't used the cards, theyhaven't been playing to the full
potential of the game.
And uh, we're looking at tryingto incorporate all of that this

(06:19):
Sunday, which that should be funand exciting.
Fun little fact, I havereferenced before that I found
somebody had talked to me aboutonline about a kid's machine,
and and as I was sitting there,I want to say it was maybe
Saturday, I was scrollingthrough Facebook, watching like
some of the streams from Worldsand trying to like dive in on

(06:40):
it.
And they're going through, theypan to this woman, and she waves
at the camera, and I'm like, huh, she looks a little
familiar.
Why why do I why does thisperson look familiar?
And then all of a sudden I itdawns on me.
That's the person that asked meabout the kids event.
Oh god, who is that?

(07:02):
And then I realized that's EricaBev.
I was blown away, I was stunned,and I realized that when I
replied with my comment onFacebook that I came from a
place of not understanding thefull question, and I definitely
did not intend for any of it tocome across the way that it

(07:25):
might have.
I have a bunch of ideas, I havea bunch of questions on what
your thoughts are on it.
Feel free, reach out to me anduh let me know.
And if there was any sort ofmiscommunication, I do
apologize.
That was no intention.
Maybe even set up something tohave you on the show at some

(07:46):
point.

SPEAKER_01 (07:47):
I was uh poking around on the Steamforge website
today, and I stumbled across aset of quick start rules, which
you might be able to pare downfor like a kid's machine kind of
thing.

SPEAKER_00 (07:58):
Yeah, there's a number of different questions
I've got for that.
I'm wondering, yeah, are themodels going to be supplied?
Do they need to have models?
Is this gonna be a kids'tournament?
Is it gonna be I have so manydifferent questions, and that's
where I kind of my head spiraledout of control and was like, I'd
start looking into what kids arearound and if they'd even want
to do it.

SPEAKER_01 (08:19):
Yeah.
Um I would very much be inclinedto use uh armies that are 3D
printable from the Cephalax andthen probably Crucible Guard,
because if the models getdamaged, you can just print out
another one real quick and it'llbe low cost.
Uh because I know when we did uhthe demos for Batman, we lost a

(08:42):
lot of expensive miniatures.

SPEAKER_00 (08:44):
Yeah.
Going way back, we'll we'llactually be having another guest
on soon.
We're working on the schedulingfor that.
Angus and I worked with kind oflike a promotions group that we
would promote differentminiature games and teach people
how to play these games.
One of them was BatmanMiniatures.

(09:07):
And when we were running demosand teaching people how to play,
all of a sudden the miniatureswould grow legs and they would
go missing, or they would breakand a piece would go missing.
And it it didn't bode too wellfor us.

SPEAKER_01 (09:21):
But needless to say, I think we just decided that if
we were gonna do it again, we'rejust gonna use hero clicks
because if someone drops a heroclick, it's gonna bounce.

SPEAKER_00 (09:30):
Yeah, it's gonna bounce.
Those those are fairlyinexpensive and not pewter.
Right.
I actually have a scar on mythumb from building the Batman
on the chimney.
Oh, nice.
Yeah.
Again, if there was any sort ofmiscommunication, I do
apologize.
Would like to talk more aboutit.

(09:50):
So please feel free, reach out.

SPEAKER_01 (09:53):
What'd you think about today's news machine or
War Machine Wednesday?

SPEAKER_00 (09:59):
War Machine Wednesday.
Well, since you and I talked abit about this, and uh we
predicted, and luckily, not outhere, but we predicted that we
are gonna see the nextmind-controlled unit for the
Syphilex, which we did get, andI did call Cador because I was

(10:20):
like, oh, they already didSignar, so I'm gonna put down
it's gonna be Codor.
And so luckily, boom, got thatone.
Then we thought we were gonnasee the Crucible Guard some
releases on them, because I meanthey should be coming really
soon.

SPEAKER_01 (10:37):
Yeah, I believe the idea was the November release.
Right.
For the uh battle group.

SPEAKER_00 (10:44):
I'm wondering if they're waiting for the first
Wednesday in November.

SPEAKER_01 (10:48):
I don't know.
I think you would want to havethat previewed out before so you
can get as many people over tothe My Mini Factory tribe to
sign up for it.

SPEAKER_00 (10:57):
Yeah.
I I I'm not sure.
With everything that they've hadgoing on, I can see where some
things are a little I don't wantto say loosey-goosey, but
there's for me a littleconfusion.
And then we missed the ballthere.
Yep.
And then what was the third one?
There was another one that we wethought uh the organized play

(11:18):
kit.

SPEAKER_01 (11:18):
We thought you were gonna see some information on
that.

SPEAKER_00 (11:20):
Yep.
I thought that was gonna show upwith the news machine today, but
that didn't show up either.
They said, you know, hey, lookfor, you know, the next news
machine.
And whenever they've done that,it's usually been on the next
Wednesday or like really shortthus thereafter, and it wasn't
there.
It might show up eventually herein the next week or two.

(11:42):
Uh-huh.
One thing I am excited forthough, I did put in my
pre-order.
I have a uh two of the Frozenand Forgotten sets because I did
the episode with the boys.
Okay.
And I said, I'm like, well, dad's getting one, and maybe
I'll get you one.
Yep, I got them one.
I'm getting one, they're gettingone, and then I also

(12:04):
pre-ordered.

SPEAKER_01 (12:05):
So who's the lucky boy who's getting the mummies?

SPEAKER_00 (12:08):
The mummies?
Uh, I think that's John, becauseEli was all about the cats.
Whatever.
And uh John was I was like,Well, do you really want to have
another undead?
He's like, I love my Crix.
I was like, Alright, that'sfair.
So he he's really excited aboutthat, and he likes building.
He hasn't really done a wholelot of painting.
He's done a little bit.

(12:30):
We're gonna be getting him onthat here soon.
He's got a fair little bit tostart painting.
But he's got finals right nowwith his schooling, the way it
goes.
He does finals like everyquarter, which is different than
what I'm used to.
So more of like an acceleratedprogram, I guess.
Okay.

(12:50):
On a different note, going backto the War Machine Wednesday,
the battle maps that we saw.
Yeah, there's four of them, Ibelieve.
Yeah.
There was Crick's map, just ageneric grassy field war machine
map, there was a gravediggermap, and then a Cador map.

SPEAKER_01 (13:09):
Yeah, it looks like there's like a Cador snowfields,
and I think there was like amuddy trench network.

SPEAKER_00 (13:17):
Yeah, that's the Gravedigger one.
And then uh There's a grassyfield that's just like a generic
war machine.

SPEAKER_01 (13:24):
Yeah, with like a w weird gear that's just mixed
into the terrain somewhere.
Okay.

SPEAKER_00 (13:31):
So they took a big picture of it.
And then there's like a like apoisonous swampy field kind of
thing, and that's the Crix map.
Yes.
Okay.
I thought they were going withFrontline for the maps from
Adepticon.
That's what I thought too.

SPEAKER_01 (13:47):
But apparently it's deep cut, but that's fine.

SPEAKER_00 (13:50):
Uh oh hey, more more maps, different people,
different looks of maps.
I I actually just ordered onefrom Frontline.
Gonna see how that one shows uphere shortly.
I'll definitely take picturesand post it up once I get it.

SPEAKER_01 (14:05):
Yeah, and the uh deep cat I'm sorry, the deep cut
maps look reasonably priced.
Yeah.
Roughly 55, 60 bucks for a fourby four on the mouse pad
material.

SPEAKER_00 (14:15):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_01 (14:16):
If you want vinyl, it's considerably cheaper.

SPEAKER_00 (14:18):
Yeah, I I use the vinyl mat, but it they don't
they don't play as nice.
Like it it they move, they itjust it Completely agree.

SPEAKER_01 (14:28):
Yeah.
Um my favorite is just cloth.
Just like a cloth mat.
Yeah.
And uh Cigar Box Battles makesreally nice cloth mats.

unknown (14:38):
Hmm.

SPEAKER_00 (14:39):
I'll have to look at that.

SPEAKER_01 (14:40):
Not for War Machine, but just everything.

SPEAKER_00 (14:43):
Just in general?
Yeah.
Okay.
I'll have to take a look atthat.
But for today, we're gonna gointo the Graveborn, or the
Mummies as you like to callthem.
That will kind of wrap up thenew starter sets that we've got.
It's what I'm excited for.
I know the community's excitedabout.
And who doesn't like a faststriking elf box versus a slower

(15:08):
undead box?
Yeah, I like mummies.
I think the models look cool.
There was a little backlashabout how some of the uh the
grave borne looked a littlecartoony.
Their heads were a little weirdand they seemed a little
cartoony.
But that quickly kind of fellaway.

SPEAKER_01 (15:29):
I think on the champion, not the uh like war
beast.
Yeah.
The guy with uh two handweapons.
I think the hand weapons look alittle goofy.

SPEAKER_00 (15:43):
The not the barrow ghoul, it's the uh was it
Revenant Champion?

SPEAKER_01 (15:48):
Yeah.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_00 (15:49):
Yeah, and But that might just be the paint job.
I I think it's I think they alsosaid something about it was the
uh the war beast, it was hishead.
Okay.
Because it it's like shrunkendown and he's got like this big,
big body, but then he's got thiswee little head.

SPEAKER_01 (16:04):
Yeah, but that's the war machine style.
Like if you don't haveridiculous shoulder pads, what
are you doing?
You don't belong in war machineland.
I was gonna say Retribution ofSkyra.

SPEAKER_00 (16:14):
Yeah.
Massive shoulder.
Yeah, them too.

SPEAKER_01 (16:18):
Um Vlad from Codor.
Yeah, there's yeah, oh god, those are they're huge.

SPEAKER_00 (16:24):
Yeah, they're got like a little pinhead behind his
between his shoulders.
Yeah.
But those are some of theaesthetics that we do enjoy.
Yeah, I love it.
Yeah.
Alright.
Going back.
When you look at the lore forthe Graveborn, you go way back.
Correct.
All the way to essentially thefoundation of Cain.

(16:47):
The Orgoth are an ancientwarrior civilization and are
among the first to know Menoth.
For those that you don't know,Menoth is the creator god, was
the ones to bring civilizationto the world, and his
counterpart, the great devourer, would clean up behind him.
Rather than loving Menoth, thecreator, they met his trials

(17:12):
with indifference and indignanceand refusal.
Orgoth sought new patrons andfound them in the outer abyss.

SPEAKER_01 (17:21):
As they should.
What's so great about Menoth?

SPEAKER_00 (17:24):
Not sacrificing souls.

SPEAKER_01 (17:27):
What's so great about Menoth?

SPEAKER_00 (17:31):
Fire big powers?
No.
Ancient Orgoth dreamers walkedthe boundaries of Cain, Urkane,
and the nameless worlds beyond, and even the void.
Orgoth mystics heard a callingand followed it beyond the realm
of death, and they made contactwith the Felgoth, Infernals, and

(17:52):
pledged their service to theirnew chosen gods.
So that's where at some point wehad made a discussion about
that, that there was some sortof speculation that they
worshiped them, and I was like,I thought they did.
But it spells it out.

(18:13):
Jump ahead to the first andsuccessful conquest of Imorin.
The Imores found that this timewas full of hardship and horrors
and sacrifices physicalsacrifices.
Yet the Imores united underneathone banner and fought back their

(18:35):
subjugators and drove back theOrgoth to reclaim their
ancestral territories.
This period saw much developmentand progress in multiple areas.
During this period gunpowder wascreated alongside rapid
advancement in alchemy.
The first fusion of steam andmagic was used to create the

(18:57):
first cortexes.
Also, during this period, firstcolossals were built and began
to walk.
It is rumored that the infernalsplayed a hand in humanity's
learning of the arcane art ofwizardry, and also in the
rebellion against theiroppressors, the Orgoth.

(19:18):
Sure.
Seems reasonable.
I think it is reasonable, butwhy would the infernals, who are
giving all this power to Orgoth, and to to build this kind of how
can we put it?
To build this race up to say, okay, you guys are the good

(19:41):
ones.
We give you all this power.
And then as they startconquering and sacrificing all
these souls, they're like, ohhey guys, here's some magic,
learn how to use this.
Alright, now we're gonna helpyou take them over and kick them
out.

SPEAKER_01 (19:56):
Sure.
I think something that'simportant to realize here is
there's multiple factions ofinfernals.

SPEAKER_00 (20:03):
Yeah, there's uh I know of at least two.

SPEAKER_01 (20:07):
Because there's the Felgoth and then the uh the
Nochians, yeah, or Anacrians.
Something like that?
Yeah.
It could be rival factions ofinfernals that were backing the
Orgoth and the rest of Imorin.
It could also just be theFelgoth playing both sides,
because they know that theOrgoth are gonna give them the

(20:29):
souls of those that they theykill, and presumably they're
gonna get the Orgoth souls oncethey die.
And then if they want to, theycan send them back, but they'll
keep the mortal ones.
Yeah.
So I mean, why not play them offof each other and just get all
the souls?

SPEAKER_00 (20:44):
Yeah.
Alright, yeah.
Because if they're like, you didbad and you were weak, now your
soul is condemned, you're notimmortal anymore.
Right.
But then it's oh you did prettygood.
Yeah, we'll send you back and goget more.
Yeah.
Okay.
Alright.

SPEAKER_01 (20:58):
So you're no longer useful and then your soul
belongs to me.
Right.

SPEAKER_00 (21:02):
You know, I it just when I read that, I was like,
that's that's kind of why?
Why would they're demons?
I was gonna say, I'm like, that's a whole new level of
Trixie.

SPEAKER_01 (21:14):
Yeah, well.

SPEAKER_00 (21:15):
They're the definitively evil faction.
Yeah, for sure.
Well, then I would definitelysay Crix and Orgoth.
No, Crix is fine.

SPEAKER_01 (21:26):
They're just trying to kill dragons.
It's fine.
Yeah, but then oh, yeah.
I don't know.
There's too many dragons.
We only need one dragon.

SPEAKER_00 (21:36):
No, no, we we don't need that one dragon at full
power.

SPEAKER_01 (21:41):
Tarok without any of the other hearthstones was a
problem.
Disagree.
He was just sitting by himself, bored out of his mind.
Plotting his revenge for what hedid.

SPEAKER_00 (21:56):
I agree.
As a newfound Crix player, Iwill make my decision after
Sunday.
I'll see how good guys they are.
The best guys.
Well, they do not like Orgoth.
Which that plays well.
And they also do kind of show upfor humanity when they're like,
oh, we're about to loseeverything.

(22:17):
Well, now the Crics are buddybuddy with Orgoth.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_01 (22:21):
Kinda.

SPEAKER_00 (22:22):
Yeah, I was like, kinda.
They're pretending to be buddybuddy.
Well, so humanity rises up andpushes Orgoth out and beats them
back to their black ships.
And when Orgoth realizes thatthey're about to lose, they
start retreating.
And they jump onto their boatsand they sail back.

(22:42):
Not all of them left.
Right.
Some of them The respectableones.
Some warrior kings sealedthemselves inside subterranean
tombs beneath their hiddenfortresses.
Their hatred and thirst forrevenge for claiming back all
they lost preserved them asimmortal remnants known as

(23:05):
deathless.
They were buried with fellweapons of death and war along
with piles of treasure fromtheir invasions.
Their mightiest servants watchover the hordes, guardians bound
by dark magic and oaths ofservitude that knew no end.
Never minding the passage oftime or ravaged by ages, they

(23:28):
only broke their vigil todestroy those that would come to
defile the sanctity of thecrypts and condemn the souls of
the intruders to the Felgoth.
This is kind of why I'm likethese guys are bad, bad dudes.
Constantly condemning souls.
Never do I think now, okay.
As a little bit of background,as me as a player, I always play

(23:50):
as the good guys.
So this is gonna be like one ofthe first bad guy factions I've
ever played.
The Crix?
Yes.
Or the Mumbies?
Both.
Because I intend on playingboth.
Okay.
Diving in on the lore with theCrics, I was like, alright,
these guys are kind of bad, butthey're a weird kind of bad.

(24:13):
Then you've got Orgoth.
Ooh, these guys are bad news.
And then I hear about theInfernals.
Their models are so cool.
I want to play them becausethey're super cool models, but
I'm like, oh, they're so evil, Idon't want to play them.
Fair enough.
I I'm torn.
I'm really, really torn.

SPEAKER_01 (24:32):
See how you feel about that once they actually
start getting their STLs.

SPEAKER_00 (24:35):
Yeah, but we'll definitely have to see once
those STLs come out.
While the Emory's have forgottenabout the Deathless, the Orgoth
haven't.
Now in the second Orgothinvasion underway, they return
to cautiously recruit thedeathless to their cause.
When the Orgoth come to recruitthe Deathless, they're a little

(24:58):
we'll say nervous, because theyknow even the slightest offense
might cause the Deathless toturn on the Orgoth because of
ancient grudges, rather thanfocusing on the subjugation and
destruction of the nations ofWestern Imorin and all of its
people.

SPEAKER_01 (25:16):
How big of an offense do you think it's going
to be that Orgoth has gotteninto bed with Crix?

SPEAKER_00 (25:21):
Oh, especially for them, knowing that they got
blown apart.

SPEAKER_03 (25:26):
Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00 (25:26):
Yeah.
Well, we'll see what Anathea hasto think about that.
Some Deathless, like Anathea, the imperishable desolation,
have responded enthusiasticallyto the living warlords and
recommitted themselves to theconquest.
Others have remained lessforthright and refused to offer

(25:47):
any aid.
The reasons could be because oflack of faith in the leadership
of the war witches that nowcommand that.
Or they just prefer to staymasters of their little crypts
that they've maintained for along time at this point.

SPEAKER_01 (26:03):
Okay.
Do you really think Anathia iscommitted to the Orgoth cause,
or is she really just interestedin making uh Horuska?
Horusk?
Yeah.
Making him look terrible.

SPEAKER_00 (26:22):
Uh yeah.
She is definitely veryself-serving.
And a little bit later when wecover her directly, it does kind
of dive into her motivations andwhy she's doing what she does.
But yeah, she's she's a littleself-serving.

(26:42):
Yeah.
And that's and that's not evenan a little, it is more of a
lot, but herusk definitely knowswhat he's doing, and he kind of
yeah.

SPEAKER_01 (26:54):
Yeah.
I did not get the impression atall that she cared about
Orgoth's cause.

SPEAKER_00 (27:00):
Alright, we'll touch on that after once we get
through her, because I I I don'twant to spoil it, but I have
words for that.
Those deathless that have risenup to join the Orogoth conquest
are known as the Graveborn.
They are powerful allies, if notvolatile.
Unlike the ancient warlords thattasted defeat and reincarnation

(27:23):
at the hands of the Emory's, theGraveborn are unchastened and
unhumbled by the failure of theprevious invasion.
The Graveborn are bound by thesavagery and conquesting
birthright of the old ways increed and expect nothing less

(27:43):
now.
They are ruthlessly intolerantof anything that they deem as
weakness or hesitation.
They will challenge any livingwarlord if they do not meet
their standards of leadership, especially anyone who once stood
beside them in life and fledaboard the black ships.

(28:04):
Having arisen from their torporwithout a sense of how frail
humans are, they would committhem to endless conquest
regardless of life or mortalsuffering.
When I read this part, Iimmediately kind of geeked out a
little bit.
Why does torpor sound familiar,Angus?

(28:25):
I have no idea.
Vampires?
Still drawn a blank.
Vampire the Masquerade.
When a vampire they go intotorpor, but they utilize it in
the exact same sense.
So when they go to this deepslumber, when the vampires fall
down, they go into torpor andeventually they wake back up.

(28:46):
Or they don't and then they'redead.
It was just it was interestingto see that it was referenced
there, other than that's theonly time I've ever heard it was
in Vampire the Masquerade, buthere I see it.
And I was like, oh, interesting.
Indeed.
Nice utilization of it, but itstill I immediately got
distracted and was like, oh,this is from yeah, no, I was
like, no, no, focus.

(29:07):
The Graveborns stand out as truezealots compared to the roughest
of Oregoth warlords, since theyare eager to lavish their
Felgoth masters with souls.
They believed the witch queenhad usurped the natural order of
the Orogoth society and theychafed the living warlords for

(29:28):
her prominence amongst them.
The Graveborn are more flightyallies to Orgoth than are the
Witchlords of Crix.
While the Crix have their ownambitions, the Graveborne are
more direct rivals to theOrgoth's leadership.
The Graveborn that have joinedthe second invasion retain deep

(29:50):
suspicions of witch QueenHerexia and her Reaper Covenant,
but they accept her command fornow.
Now Now to Anathea, she iscruel, heartless, and inhuman in
equal measures.
She served as a commander in thefirst invasion, she fought,

(30:12):
fell, and rose again a dozentimes.
Climbing out of the outer abysson piles of bones of the
countless numbers of victims andenemies she tirelessly and
bloodthirstily eliminated.
When Orgoth began their retreatto the black ships, Anethea was
already gravely wounded and waslifted away on a palquin of bone

(30:37):
and iron by her survivingbondsmen.
Knowing total defeat was near, they returned Anethea to her
crypt, where her spoils, war andmurder were laid out before her
as if she was a queen.
The entryway to her cryptcollapsed and she was sealed
inside to be forgotten.

(30:57):
Anethea did not forget.
Her anger and disdain for theloss they suffered by enemies
that were unworthy of them madeher calcify her spirit and she
swore oaths of vengeance to herFelgoth masters.
A knock on the threshold byHurusk and having him call out

(31:17):
her name, he asked for her aid.
He needed a rival worthy of hisambition and an ally against the
machinations of the witch queen.
Most temptingly, he offered hernew glories to rival those from
the ages past.
Having appeased her vanity, herrusk then threatened to eclipse

(31:39):
her deeds with his renewed featsand delivery of souls to the
outer abyss.
And Athia would not be bestedand she rose from her crypt as a
demon of vengeance unleashedonce more upon Cain, and in her
wake came a host of immortalundead horrors that yet yearned
for battle.

(32:00):
Going back to what we were justtalking about, Hurusk knew what
he had to say to get her out andonto her side.
He knew if I goad her enough andtell her she's not nearly as
good as she thinks, but hestarts off with hey, I need
somebody that can be my equal.

(32:22):
I need somebody to make me be abetter general.
Oh, so you're saying I'm yourI'm your equal?
Yeah.
Okay.
That's all fine and dandy, but Ilike where I'm at.
Oh, okay.
Well now I'm about to be betterthan you in every way.
Somebody with a big ego is notgonna tolerate that very well.

(32:43):
And out she comes with herhorde.
Good job, Rusk.
Yep, he's gonna get murdered.
He's done pretty well so far.
The Barrow Ghoul Construct ofIron and Death A horrifying and
bleak avatar of the outer abyssA hollow husk of chain and

(33:06):
plate, which is animated byentropic force of infernal fires
and bones of countless victims.
Even as the souls of its victimsare dispatched to the Felgoth,
the mortal remains are imbuedwith fear, pain, and suffering
of their destruction, creatingresidual energies collected and

(33:27):
feasted upon by the Barrogul andhis controlling warlock.
The Remnant Champion They areunstoppable in life and
indestructible in death.
They are the mightiest of theenslaved warriors.
Living warlords highly prize theRemnant Champions, and receiving

(33:49):
one as a bondsman is a greathonor.
Corrupted to the core in serviceto the Graveborne and Felgoth,
they lack any conscience asmortal men or as rising undead.
Now mindless automatons, absolutely loyal to the warlords

(34:11):
they serve, willing to throwthemselves in front of any
attack to protect their masters.
As living allies falter aroundthem, necromantic energies leach
the escaping life force torepair the damage to the
champion's body.
Charnel Hounds These are ArgusHounds who would never submit to

(34:34):
the unnatural hand of theOrgoth, but were instead
transformed into undying whoresof bone and desiccated flesh
wrapped in chains and darkrituals.
The natural hunting instinctswere replaced with vicious
hunger to consume the flesh ofthe living without rest.

SPEAKER_01 (34:54):
What's so noble about an Argus hound?

SPEAKER_00 (34:57):
They're a two-headed dog.

SPEAKER_01 (34:59):
Okay.
The butcher of Cador.
I think it's Butcher three.
He comes with two Argus Hounds, right?
And then Butcher Four is now anOrgoth caster.
Wasn't Butcher Three where hehad Death Jack?

(35:20):
No.
Butcher never was part of DeathJack.

SPEAKER_00 (35:24):
Then who is the one that was part of Death Jack?

SPEAKER_01 (35:26):
Karchev that was fused with Death Jack.
Okay.
Karchev the Terrible.
Yeah.
Alright.
The other guy's the Butcher.
And to be fair, like, Karchevbeing fused with Death Jack is
uh a Riot Quest thing.
Which is the presumption thatthe Infernals win the war
instead of lose it.
I believe that's the premise ofRiot Quest.

(35:46):
I never got into it.
Yeah, I I'm not sure either.
Anyways, my point is like, hownoble are Argus Hounds when
they're hanging out with thebutcher, and the butcher is like
the least noble character.
I mean, dogs can be trained.
For good, for bad.

SPEAKER_00 (36:03):
Except this is saying that they can't be,
because No, they they refuse tobend their will, so they're
like, yeah, but mind you, Cutterwill take their time.
These guys are like, you serveor you're done.
But also, depending on what theydid, I don't know.

(36:25):
I that might be something I'mgonna look into.
How did he get the Warhounds?

SPEAKER_01 (36:30):
Any undead faction is going to be perfectly happy
to wait around for as long asthey want to train.
Oh, for sure.

SPEAKER_00 (36:37):
Whatever.
This could also be from whoknows when.
From back in the first, wherethey weren't claimed by the
circle.
Or maybe they were.
I have no idea.
This is going that far back, I'mnot quite sure.
Now.
Fair enough.
Yeah, because that's evenpre-Mark I.

SPEAKER_01 (36:58):
It just struck me as odd that they're, you know,
saying that Argus Huns are, youknow, so willful and noble and
blah blah blah blah blah.
And there they are hanging outwith the butcher.

SPEAKER_00 (37:12):
Well, but this is also, again, the perspective of
the Orgoth versus theperspective of, let's say, the
Circle of Ouroboros that wouldactually know more intimately on
how they function.

SPEAKER_01 (37:28):
I would definitely I feel like Orgoth would have a
pretty good handle on it.
I don't know.
I mean, the butcher knows how tohandle Argus Hounds.
And Orgoth has the butcher now.

SPEAKER_00 (37:39):
So again, the these are these are questions that
could be answered possibly inprevious editions lore, which
I'm looking into getting, and II would like to I would like to
see, especially finding out thatthe butcher has one, there's
gotta be a reason.
There's gonna be a story behindit.
Yeah, I'm sure there is, butdepending on maybe some of the

(38:02):
listeners who actually do knowmight say, and then we'll find
out that much faster.
But this will be something I'lllook into.
And that brings us to theExecrators.
They were the bondsmen that boreAnathea to safety.
They were also the ones thatcollapsed the crypt tunnel

(38:25):
behind them to protect her.
They have lost interest in everymortal pursuit.
They've even lost the capacityfor speech.
They're graceless in motion andyet deathly in every action.
They long and exist only tokill, to bring glory to Anathea,

(38:49):
and to send souls screaming tothe outer abyss for their
masters.
As far as bad guys go, this oneI could probably I probably can
get behind it.
Yeah, she doesn't seem so bad.
Yeah, I mean, from what I'veseen so far well, they they say
war and murder is how shecollected her trophies, which

(39:09):
I'm like, mmm.
But what else are you gonna takeas a trophy?
I mean, I do like predators.
Yeah.
I don't know.
But either way.
Predators.
Yes.
Yes, the predators.
Alright.
Looking at Anethea's rules, though, as far as lore goes, and
again, because these are thejourneyman rules, I don't want

(39:32):
to go too far into them.
But she does have Hellmarkedrule, which models destroyed by
attacks made by this model nevergenerates soul tokens.
Makes sense.
Absolutely.
Gotta go to Felgoth.
Yep.
Send the souls right back toFelgoth.
So that one definitely lends in.

(39:53):
Also, they like to punish andinflict pain.
So having Bloodtongue her weaponinflict pain, which is great
because when it does that, whenthey hit a war beast with a
weapon, it can place a fury onit or remove a fury from a war
beast.
And it's also got Mancatcher, again, trying to capture those

(40:16):
souls.
So the Revenant Champion hasGuard Dog, which definitely
falls in line with itsprotector.
While this model's within threeinches of its leader and is not
knocked down or stationary, itsleader gains plus two defense
against melee attacks and cannotbecome knocked down.
It's also got an imperviousflesh.

(40:39):
When this model suffers damage,it rolls one fewer dice.
And also it has shield guard.
When a friendly model isdirectly hit by a non-spray
ranged attack while within threeinches of a model with shield
guard, you can choose to havethe model with shield guard
directly hit instead.

(41:09):
Yeah, they are definitely one ofthe models I'm actually rather
interested in.
But the Barrow Ghoul and theCharnel Hound both don't really,
from what we can see, there'snothing really impactful as far
as the lore goes, as the rulesare.
No.
But again, they could changeonce they become full-fledged

(41:33):
into this.
And we'll see what that kind oflooks like more.
As I said before, when theirsubfactions do actually fully
release and hit the table, Iwill go back and I will re-talk
about the rules and compare andcontrast to see how it actually
functions.
Kind of like how you see Zaharafrom Wintercore with her from

(41:57):
the SKS, and then you see her inold Umbre as a solo with her
Jack.
Right.
You see they're they're bothpowered way down.
Yeah.
I'm interested to see howthey're actually going to get
powered up to be thefull-fledged casters in their
faction.
Yeah, I certainly hope they do.

(42:17):
It will be a thing.
It's just a matter of when.
Alright.
Anything else you got for me,Angus?
I don't think so.
I don't think so either.

SPEAKER_01 (42:27):
But I mean, I I definitely want to have like a
proper mummy faction that I canplay out of that box set.
Because I don't want to justplay against Dusk Elves.

SPEAKER_00 (42:40):
I mean, for sure.
And that's definitely going tobe something that we'll be we'll
see coming out here, I willassume very shortly.
With Graveborne and especiallywith this box set releasing
really soon, one can only hopethat it's right around the
corner.

SPEAKER_01 (42:59):
Agreed.

SPEAKER_00 (42:59):
And that could also be why you're seeing maybe
Kithguard getting pushed back alittle bit.
Is maybe they're actuallyswinging up this stuff.

SPEAKER_01 (43:09):
It's fine.

SPEAKER_00 (43:10):
One could hope.
Except for I want my Kith Guard.

SPEAKER_01 (43:15):
Fair enough.

SPEAKER_00 (43:16):
I'm legitimately looking at so many different
armies I've got.
I gotta I gotta stop doing thislore dives because I am
legitimately just buying newarmy after new army, and I'm not
even getting them above 50points.
Well, the next time you place anorder for stuff, order me Yana.
Well, we'll definitely see aboutthat.

(43:36):
And we definitely have someother some news coming out on
the near horizon, some prettyexciting news.
And I've got a few guests thatwe're gonna be bringing on here
shortly, and I'm really excitedto be pushing that out into the
future and to start bringingpeople on and having other

(43:58):
people talk about, besides me,talk about our local community
and our local meta.
I want to see what otherpeople's local meta is like.
Is your local more driventowards community building and
building up the hobby?
Are you gearing towardstournament level play, and

(44:21):
that's what your meta build isout where you're at?
These are the things I'm reallyinterested in and seeing where
the hobby is driving itself.
And as I've said before, eventhough I've bumped into these
higher level players, thecommunity has been all very
accepting and bringing everyonein and even engaging with people

(44:46):
that don't know the game or areinterested in the game, or just
starting out and just being thatpositive ray of energy and hope
and building this hobby andcommunity up.
The one thing I'll say about theWar Machine community is that it
is overwhelmingly positive.
Yeah.

(45:06):
I don't see a whole lot ofnegativity.
I'm sure it exists, and Iremember in previous editions,
going back, I want to say maybeMark II.
Mark I was rough.
I know Mark I was rough, and Iknow Mark II was a little rough
because I remembered that's partof why I was dropping in and

(45:27):
out.
Because I remember coming intrying to learn the game, and I
was like, ooh, this is not agreat little experience.
And then Mark III came around, and it was okay.
Mark III was better, butdefinitely with the way that
Steamforge has kind of come in,and with the resurgence of what
we're seeing now, we'redefinitely seeing a lot of the

(45:49):
people from previous editionscoming back in seeing the
community in a much better wayand a much better, healthier
state.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_01 (45:58):
Now, when you hear like people talk about toxic
masculinity, Mark I war machinewas trying to cultivate that.
I have no idea.

SPEAKER_00 (46:08):
Yeah, it was it was not great.
Once I see a community isstarting to get into that
negative space and into thatnegative aspect, I usually don't
survive very long there.
And it's it's because I justdon't want to be around that.
I mean, I used to love playingMagic, but Magic Gathering is is

(46:31):
rough.
Yeah, I never got into that.
Used to be great, used to be alot of fun, and now I just I I
just can't.
And same thing, like, oh god, what was the other card game?
Yu-Gi-Oh! That was another onethat was extremely rough.
And again, maybe that was justmy local area that was just that

(46:51):
toxic and that destructive.
But I remember traveling aroundquite a bit, and it was just
rough.
And again, now I get to lookover at all the pretty cards I
got and they just sit there.
But I get to teach my kids howto play these games and we have
fun with it.
Well, other than that, I don'thave a whole lot else.

SPEAKER_01 (47:12):
Fair enough.

SPEAKER_00 (47:13):
Alright.
Well see you in a week.
Not even a week.
Yeah.
I'll see you in a couple days.
It's true.
We got Cricks to field andprobably trolls to slay.

SPEAKER_01 (47:24):
I would assume so.

SPEAKER_00 (47:25):
Yeah.
Well, maybe they'll show upagain with Everblight and try to
smash Chum into oblivion likethey did last time.

SPEAKER_01 (47:32):
Could happen.

SPEAKER_00 (47:34):
But they'll be sorely mistaken this time.
Alright, guys.
Have a wonderful day.
Take care.
