behind the scenes trivia never before heard poker facts and

It's your weekly Pokémon nostalgia trip, destined to be
filled with joy, laughter and heart warming life lessons from
(01:24):
the always fascinating world of Pokémon.
On today's episode, I go back and watch episode 12 Here I
come, The Squirrel Squad. So let's not wait around and get
straight to today's episode. Enjoy folks.
(01:55):
OK, I just got done watching. Here comes the Squirrel Squad.
The Japanese name for this was Enter the Zenigame Squad.
This was the 12th episode of theoriginal Pokémon animated
series, and it was first broadcast in Japan on June 17th,
1997. We're going to be shown in the
(02:16):
United States and beyond on September the 23rd, 1998.
This episode starts off with Ashand the gang walking down a road
when they fall into a pit trap. A quintet of squirrel wearing
sunglasses peer into the hole and laugh at Ash, Misty and
(02:37):
Brock before Ash climbs out and angrily checks his Pokedex for
more details on the squirrel. He initially orders his Pikachu
to use Thunder Shock on them, but one of the other squirrel
jumps in the way and takes the hit for what seems to be like
the lead squirrel of the gang. And as a battle starts to take
(03:00):
place, Officer Jenny arrives, which scares the squirrel away.
At the police station, Jenny explains that the group of
Squirrel are called the SquirrelSquad and she feels sympathy for
them as they were abandoned by their trainers and all they do
is run wild and play pranks on everyone.
(03:23):
Meanwhile, Team Rocket is accosted by the Squirrel Squad
tied to a tree and all their food is stolen and eaten by the
Squirrel Squad. Team Rocket getting a bit of
their own medicine here. This is the type of trap and
prank that Team Rocket would usually pull on someone, but
it's happening to them. They've been tied up and
(03:45):
someone's eating their food now.Taking advantage of the
situation, Meowth is able to communicate with the squirrel
and actually tricks them into helping him and Team Rocket.
He tells them that Team Rocket belong to him and he lets them
in on their plan to steal Pikachu Squirtle.
(04:06):
Both of these humans belong to meow.
Belong to never trust you to yougot liar written all over you.
Just let me handle this. Oh, you little.
These humans are my pets. I train them, but they're pretty
stupid. Squirtle.
Don't ever raise your voice to me again.
(04:26):
You bad human. Bad human.
Squirtle. Squirtle.
Squirtle. Squirtle.
Squirtle. Squirtle.
Ha ha, ha. Gee.
You guys can trust me. Squirtle.
Squirtle Meows. What about us?
(04:48):
Untie us too. I want a doughnut.
Be quiet. We got to keep up this app till
the squirrels trust me, and that's going to take a little
time. Later on in the episode, we see
Misty fishing while Ash and Brock have a little rest on the
riverbank and one of the Squirrel squad members pops up
(05:12):
and soaks them with a water gun.Ash, tired of the Squirtle
squads antics, confront the Squirtle when it jumps out of
the water, Pikachu getting readyto hit it with another attack,
but the Squirtle withdraws into its shell and tackles him, which
actually knocks Pikachu into thewater.
(05:32):
This is where Pikachu would be attacked by a wild Gold Dean.
Ash yells for Pikachu to swim toshore and he tries his best, but
poor old Pika cannot outswim theGold Dean and Pikachu gets stung
by Gold Dean's horn attack knocked out of the water and
(05:55):
Pikachu is not in a good way. Ash rushes down to Pikachu's
side and just these is about to try and help Pikachu.
The Squirrel Squad are there again and this time they tie up
Ash, Misty and Brock, and later on in the episode we see the
three of them tied to a rock in a cave, taken there by the
(06:17):
Squirrel Squad with Pikachu in acage nearby.
Meowth and Team Rocket are on the scene, taunting Ash about
Team Rocket's plan as Ash tries to refute everything that Meowth
has said, but the squirrel are on Meowth's side at this point
(06:38):
and they don't believe Ash. Meowth retaliates, refuting
everything that Ash has said to try and keep the squirrel on
Team Rocket's side. Brock realises that Pikachu is
in bad shape following Golding'sattack and please with the
squirrel to retrieve some medicine.
(07:00):
The squirrel eventually, reluctantly, accept Ash's plea
to retrieve the Super potion. And so they release Ash from the
rope that they've tied him up with, and they say he can go
into town to get a super potion, but if he doesn't return then
they're going to dye Misty's hair purple.
(07:22):
That'd be very different, Misty, wouldn't it, if she had purple
hair? Misty, of course, not very happy
about this either. First of all, Ash wrecks her
bike. Now there's the potential that
he could be the cause of her having her hair dyed purple.
And would purple hair dye even take to ginger hair?
(07:43):
And what would that come out like?
Would it come out purple or would it come out a different
colour? Who knows.
So we see Ash running fast as hecan over a rope bridge to get
into town, but it's Pokémon, it's a rope bridge.
We know what's going to happen here.
It breaks, causing him to fall down into the water below, and
(08:06):
he actually gets his own horn attack from Goldene straight in
the butt. Man, that.
Was. Close.
(08:42):
He's eventually able to make it to the nearest town, and just as
he's about to go into the Pokémon to get a potion to help
his injured Pikachu, the door opens and slams him in the face,
knocking him out cold. And the person who was actually
walking through the door at the time, unbeknownst to the whole
situation going on, was Gary Oak.
(09:04):
Darn you, Gary Oak. Ash wakes up the next day to
overhear Team Rocket getting up to their usual antics.
They're actually holding up a nearby store, and Jesse and
James have made a successful getaway with a stash of
merchandise. Now Ash does try to chase them
(09:24):
down, but he still needs to get the Super Potion because Pikachu
is in a gravely injured situation back inside that cave.
So Ash tries to get a super potion, but the townspeople
arrive at this point. They see that the store has been
robbed. They put two and two together
and they think it's Ash. They actually pull a bunch of
guns on Ash at this point, one of the few times that we'd see
(09:47):
guns in the Pokémon anime. Luckily none of them were
trigger happy, otherwise that could have been the end of Ash's
adventure. Officer Jenny arrives on the
scene. She's able to intervene because
she knows Ash from earlier in the episode when she first met
him, and she calms the townspeople down.
Ash is able to obtain the medicine and even hitches a ride
(10:11):
on Officer Jenny's motorcycle back to Pikachu.
Super potion, please. Oh, no, I don't need a new gun.
Don't shoot me, please. I'm stop.
Drop those. He's not with Team Rocket.
Step on it, Jenny. I've got to get there by noon.
(10:33):
Just hang on, Ash. A dead end.
But with the bridge down, classic Pokémon rope bridges,
they're always falling down. Jenny and Ash had to find
another way back to The Cave, and the only way is to crawl
(10:54):
through an opening in The Cave. But it's too big for Officer
Jenny, so Ash has to go alone. And when he gets there, he finds
everyone's gone. Team Rocket are gone, the
Squirrel Squad are gone, Meow Pikachu are gone.
So he quickly races back out of The Cave, worrying about his
friends, worrying about what theSquirrel Squad have done to
them, worrying if they've dyed Misty's hair.
(11:16):
Will it be purple? Will it be pink?
Might be dark green. You know when you try to dye
your hair and it goes like a strange dark green colour?
Or like a really bright orange colour?
Well, I suppose your hair is already orange, so it can't
really go much more orange, but luckily Ash is able to find
Misty and Brock and they're OK. The squirrel say they're only
(11:37):
bluffing and they may play tricks on people, but they would
never actually do anything nasty.
And Pikachu is able to be healedat this point by the Super
potion thanks to Misty. Team Rocket arrive on the scene
again, this time announcing their motto.
(11:58):
Prepare for trouble and make it double.
They throw down a bunch of flashbombs as well as a ladder that
Miauth is able to scale down andgrab Pikachu.
Pikachu not having a good episode here.
He's been attacked by a Gold Dean, he is almost died, he's
had to be recovered by a super potion and now Team Rocket have
(12:21):
stolen it. As Team Rocket continue to hurl
down the bombs, everyone runs for cover, but Ash looks back
and sees that the leader of the Squirrel Squad, the one with the
cool glasses, has fallen over. He's on his turtle shell and
he's unable to move. So Ash runs back over and dives
(12:44):
on top of Squirrel, protecting it from any of the explosions.
Ash continuing to show his care and love for Pokémon and Ash
very often putting himself firstfor Pokémon.
He puts himself in the way of danger in able to help the
Pokémon. And this is where kind of
Squirrel starts to see Ash for who he really is and and starts
(13:06):
to maybe think actually this guymaybe he's not such a bad a bad
guy after all. Team Rocket though throwing down
more bombs and Ash begging Squirrel to get to safety.
Squirrel though, is about to repay the favour and he lifts
Ash up above his head and runs for The Cave, saving them both.
(13:28):
Cool scene here where we kind ofsee not only Squirtle lifting up
Ash shows how incredibly strong Squirtle is, but Squirtle's
actually crying here. I think he's crying because he
sees that a human cares for him,he sees a Pokémon trainer cares
for him. And if you remember what Officer
Jenny had said earlier in the episode, Squirtle and his gang
(13:50):
are all roaming the town becausethey've been abandoned by their
trainers in the past. So an emotional moment here for
Squirrel. He lifts Ash up, runs for safety
and is able to save him from team Rockets, bombs, quick run
for cover, head for the kick. Play turtles.
Play. Here I go.
(14:26):
Hey, Squirtle, are you OK? Squirtle?
Here come two more. Save yourself Squirtle.
Run for it. Squirtle.
Squirtle. Now Team Rocket have still got
(14:59):
Pikachu though, so they start tocelebrate.
But Ash orders a squirrel to useits water gun, and in doing so
blows a hole straight through Team Rocket's Meowth balloon.
They really need to invest in better material for that Meowth
balloon. This would send Team Rocket
blasting off again and luckily Pikachu is saved.
(15:26):
But because of the bombs that Team Rocket had been throwing
down. I mean that was pretty extreme
for a Team Rocket attack. It started a fire in the nearby
town and a lot of the buildings or shops have actually already
engulfed in flames. Now worried that the entire town
could burn down ash command Squirtle to step in and put the
(15:49):
fire out with their water attack.
So Squirtle the lead Squirtle ofthe Squirtle squad, one of the
cool sunglasses. He gathers the troops and they
use their water guns to put out the fire, saving the town.
And in doing this, their heroismis commended by Officer Jenny,
(16:09):
who gifts the Squirtle Squad with a certificate and the title
of local firefighters. They even get their very own
Firefighter Squirtle Squad uniform.
And as this episode would come to a close, Ash, Misty and Brock
prepare to continue on their journey.
(16:31):
But they noticed that someone isfollowing them.
And they turn around and it's Squirrel.
Squirrel decides that he wants to join Ash.
He wants to join Ash and his friends on their adventure.
He found a new level of respect for Ash after he saved him and
Ash says come on Squirtle join the team.
(16:55):
So Squirtle happily accepts. He whips off his black Squirtle
squad shades showing his eyes showing true happiness in his
Squirtle eyes and he jumps into Ash's arms.
And that would be the end of this episode, which was Here
Comes the Squirtle Squad. Quite a lot happened in this
(17:15):
one. A very action-packed episode in
terms of Pikachu getting gravelyinjured, needing the Super
Potion, Team Rocket throwing bombs, almost catching an entire
town on fire, the antics of the Squirtle Squad, and finally
Squirtle actually joining Ash and the team.
(17:36):
We saw the debuts of the Squirrel Squad gang.
We see them pop up again in future episodes, as well as the
debut of Ash's Squirrel. Did you choose Squirrel as your
start of Pokémon when you were playing the Pokémon Nintendo
games? Let me know.
Leave a comment. Let me know who you chose.
I chose squirrel. Speaking of Squirrel, Squirrel
(18:00):
is this week's Pokémon Spotlight.
Squirtle National Pokedex numberis #7 is a watertight Pokémon
with the abilities Torrent and Rain dish.
(18:24):
Squirtle is a small reptilian Pokémon that resembles a light
blue turtle. Now, while it typically walks on
2 short legs, it has been shown to run on all fours in Super
Smash Bros. It has large purplish eyes and a
slightly hooked upper lip. Each of a squirrel's hands and
(18:48):
feet has three pointed digits and the end of its long squirrel
like tail curls inwards. A squirrel's body is encased in
a tough shell that forms and hardens after birth.
The shell is brown on top, pale yellow on the bottom, and has a
(19:09):
thick white Ridge between the two halves.
Squirtle's shell is a useful tool, as it can be used to
withdraw into the shell for protection or to sleep.
The grooved, rounded shape helpsto reduce water resistance,
allowing the Pokémon to swim at high speeds.
(19:32):
Squirtle can spray foamy water from its mouth with great
accuracy, and Squirtle are scarce in the wild, even though
it can be found around small ponds and lakes.
Squirtle can also be found residing around rivers in
mountainous regions, as shown inPokémon Snap and Pokémon Scarlet
(19:56):
and Violet. In the Pokémon episode, Beach
Blanc Out Blastoise, Squirtle are shown to be found living on
a secluded island. With other members of their
evolutionary line, the Pokémon Sharpedo is a natural predator
of the Squirtle, and as shown inPokémon Sleep, Squirtle is known
(20:20):
to sleep by withdrawing its limbs and head into its shell.
It does this to protect itself from any threats while sleeping.
It also occasionally rocks continuously from side to side
while sleeping. And here's some more Pokémon
sleep facts for you, because I know you enjoyed them last week.
About Charmander Squirtle has four different sleeping styles,
(20:45):
sheltered sleep, unsheltered sleep, overturned sleep, and a
top of belly sleep. My favorite one of those is
Overturned Sleep. Now, in generation 2, Squirtle
and it's evolved forms are the only known Pokémon capable of
(21:06):
learning the move Skull Bash, but other Pokémon could still
inherit it via Pokémon breeding Squirtle's evolutionary line.
Squirtle evolves into War Turtle, which evolves into
Blastoise. And here's some Squirtle Squirt
trivia triv for you. There was a scene in the 2004
(21:31):
film Godzilla Final Wars where aboy throws an action figure of a
Squirtle into a fire and insultsit.
The Pokémon franchise was deemedas the biggest rival of the
Godzilla franchise at the time, and it is also presumed as a
reference to Gemira. So taking shots.
(21:54):
Godzilla was taking shots there at the Pokémon franchise found
this interesting last week. I spoke about it and it turns
out they didn't just stop with Charmander.
New also released a $1.00 coin featuring a squirrel.
In fact, they released an entireset of commemorative Pokémon
(22:16):
coins, and this one had a squirrel on the front, which I
had a squirrel coin. Looked into a bit of squirrel's
origin here and a squirrel's design was based on both its
final evolved form of Blastoise and also baby turtles.
(22:36):
Though it's anatomy and semi aquatic lifestyle are actually
much more similar to therapins and it's proportions match those
of the big headed turtle, much like war turtle.
It's tale is a reference to Japanese legends of the
minogame, which was a turtle that lived for 10,000 years and
(23:01):
grew a tale made of seaweed. Squirtle's name is a combination
of squirt to spray and turtle. The name was chosen in reference
to water guns, which are thoughtof as a cool toy for children.
Squirt is also a slang term for small child zenigame.
(23:23):
The Japanese name for Squirtle is a combination of Zeni money
and Kane Turtle, forming the word zenigame.
According to Pokémon Black and White television program Poker
Quiz. Zenni being an old fashioned
word for money is because squirrels shell looks like old
(23:47):
coins, so that's how they get their name.

Welcome back. You are listening to the Pica
Pals podcast now. Last week I debuted a new
segment called The Poker Flute, and I played my very own poker
flute, not to wake up Snorlax, but so that you could try and
guess what it was that I was playing.
And nobody has actually guessed what it was I was playing on the
(27:53):
poker flute. In fact, nobody's even written
in to say what it was they thought it might have been.
I'm not sure if that's because my poker flute playing was so
bad that you're just trying to give me a sign, a subtle hint
you don't want that segment in future.
So let's see if you can guess what I'm playing on the poker
(28:13):
flute this week. OK, here we go.
I've got my poker flute. Still waiting for an invitation
(28:34):
from the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
What am I playing on the poker flute?
(28:58):
I'm sorry if your dog has just gone running across the room, if
that was high enough frequency, and if you don't have a dog, but
a dog ran across the room anyway.
Anyway, that was the poker flute.
Let me know what I was playing. Leave a comment in the episode
on Spotify or Apple Podcasts or wherever, just like you all did
(29:22):
last week and the poker flu. Yeah.
(29:44):
All right. Let's look at some episode
trivia with this week's episode Deep dive on Here it comes the
Squirrel Squad. Now this is the third and final
episode of the three episode arcwhere Ash call each of Kanto's
first partner Pokémon. So we've now been introduced to
(30:06):
Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle.
This episode also establishes that there are multiple Officer
Jenny's who are all part of a large extended family similar to
Nurse Joy. At the very start of this
episode, Ash is heard singing along to the background music
(30:26):
which is the theme to Pokémon Red and Blue.
Also the background music that starts off the podcast episode.
If you have noticed that Ash humming along there now when the
(30:47):
group fall into the hole that the Squirtle Squad have dug,
there's a skeleton of an unknownanimal that may or may not be an
unknown Pokémon. This is also the third straight
episode where the main characters fall into a pit trap.
So three straight episodes in a row, they've fallen into one of
(31:10):
those Bam Margera's dad twigs and branches covering up whole
falling through trap things and also they fall into a pit trap
in each of the episodes where Ash obtains one of the first
partner Pokémon as well. When Officer Jenny tells the
group about the squirrel squad, one of the activities that the
(31:33):
squirrel is shown doing is stealing fruit from a fruit
seller. And the man closely resembles
the Magikarp salesman who's one of my underrated favorite
characters who actually appears a few episodes later on.
He'd go on to be kind of like a a recurring character here and
there. But yeah, maybe he maybe started
(31:55):
off selling fruit, but that wasn't going so well.
So, oh, I guess there's a squirrel who stole it all.
So he had to ditch that and go into the Magic Cup business.
This is the first time that Ash has deliberately hurt a Pokémon
on screen by biting Meow on the tail.
(32:15):
No need for that Ash, right? I don't know.
He did throw that rock at Spiro's head.
Was that deliberate or was that a mistake?
Anyway, I guess he didn't bite the Pokémon.
In this episode in particular, we see Ash biting Meowth on the
tail. Now during the scene where Ash
(32:36):
is exhausted and he's on his wayto get the Super potion, we
actually see a sign hanging froma store that says beer.
Which actually just goes to showthat individual who called me
and my friend Mark out when we were dressed as Ash and Pikachu
when Mark was drinking a beer. And then he was very adamant
that Ash and Pikachu would neverdo such a thing.
(33:00):
Well, there you go. This episode had beer in.
Maybe Ash was going to stop off and get one.
This is also one of the few episodes where we see a gun
portrayed, quite a few of them actually.
In this particular episode, and this is the first episode where
a potion is used in the anime series.
(33:20):
You'll know the potions is one of the items you can get from
the Pokémon in the Nintendo games, and the potion in
question was a Super Potion, which would usually be the most
commonly used potion in future anime episodes.
It's also depicted in a spray bottle, which becomes its Sprite
in Pokémon Red and Blue. So there you go, A little tie
(33:46):
into the Nintendo games there asto why the Pokémon Sprite is a
spray bottle. Now, Squirtle chose to join
Ash's team at the end of this episode, but we actually don't
see him being captured in a poker ball, so we're led to
believe that that happened off screen.
(34:06):
And this episode marks the earliest point in the series
where Ash now has a full set of 6 Pokémon on hand.
So he has 6 Pokémon, which is the maximum that you can carry.
Ash would discover this relatively soon, but after
obtaining A Squirtle, he now hasa full set of Pokémon.
(34:30):
Here's a fun little error for you to try and notice if you go
back and watch the episode yourself.
After Goldene strikes Ash with the horn attack, Ash's hat is
the wrong colour. So if you can spot that, go back
and see if you can find that part yourself.
Maybe that's just one of the side effects of Goldene's horn
(34:51):
attack. Can be like a poisoned sting, or
it could paralyze you. But maybe it also miss colours
hats? We don't know.
I'm going to have to look in my pokedex book.
Goldene can miss colour hats. And as always, I like to look at
some of the dub edits between the original release and when
(35:11):
the anime was released in other countries.
I sometimes find it fascinating to see what was changed and why.
And in this episode in particular, in the English dub,
after Brock escapes from the hole, he says he landed on his
head, even though it was clearlyshown that he was the only one
who didn't land on his head. And in the Japanese version, the
(35:32):
Squirrel Squad use the kanji forAZ, which is like the banner I
suppose, that they're holding up, and that's from Squirrel's
Japanese name, Zenigame. That's kind of like their logo,
I suppose that's their symbol. But all cases of that sign being
(35:52):
used are actually erased from any of the dub edits, including
the flag that Officer Jenny has in the fantasy sequence, and the
firefighter jackets given to theSquirrel Squad and the little
banner that they hold. We don't see that kanji logo in
any of the dub edits. Now, Speaking of the Squirrel
(36:13):
Squad, the English dub makes it seem as though the Squirrel
Squad called themselves that, whereas in the original Japanese
version it's actually implied that it was the townspeople who
gave them that nickname. Also, Ash seems surprised that
the squirrel were abandoned in the original Japanese version
(36:34):
when he states not again becausehe'd only just rescued and
abandoned Pokémon in the previous episode.
The rice balls and sandwiches that Team Rocket are shown
eating are translated to doughnuts and eclairas in the
English dub, and I found this interesting.
Ash tells the Squirrel Squad that they'll be in big trouble
(36:57):
if they don't go into town to get the Super Potion in the
English dub, but in the originalJapanese version he actually
tells them if they don't go and get the Super potion, Pikachu
will die. Also, along the same sort of
lines, the Squirrel Squad threatened to dye Misty's hair
purple as one of their squirrel pranks, but in the original
(37:18):
Japanese anime, they actually threatened to execute Misty,
which that's a completely different that goes in a
completely different direction that makes you think completely
differently about the squirrel characters.
Now, the bazooka that Team Rocket used had cherry pedals
blast out of it as ammunition inthe original Japanese airing,
(37:41):
but in the English version, James said that it was filled
with ice instead. So which would you rather be hit
by, cherry blossom or ice? And lastly, here's a translation
difference between the English version of this episode and the
Latin American version. So Jessie states that they are
(38:02):
like the Super villains in comicbooks, except better looking.
But in the Spanish version, she says that they are much more
sexy. Ah, Spain for you.
Sexy Spain. OK, you enjoyed it last week,
the start of a new segment. So it's back.
It's IMDb the very best, like noone ever was.
(38:35):
Here's a look at some viewer comments for Pokémon Series 1
Episode 12. Here comes the Squirtle Squad,
Kisui Ki said finally a Pokémon Ash deserved through his own
actions. Squirtle is so cute.
It was my very first starter. Dracozi says the Squirtle squad
(39:00):
are better than Team Rocket XX. Rock Bing XX says squirrel squad
equals squad goals. Luciana said Squirrel was crying
because someone finally cared for him.
(39:21):
Crying emoji, Prachi said. I think Jesse and James are hot
and should get everything they deserve because of that fact.
Thank you Prachi. Not quite sure how that's
particularly related to this episode, but the series as a
whole. And yeah, Eli said.
(39:45):
To be honest, I think the Squirrel Squad should have had
their own mini series. Yeah, that would have been cool.
I think that would have actuallybeen really cool to have like a
squirrel sub series that was about the Squirrel Squad and all
their adventures. That would have been fun, Sana
said. I can't help myself laughing
(40:07):
every time I see this fish Pokémon.
And they've included a animated GIF of Sea King and Golding.
Sniper Wolf 337 All the other Sniper Wolf usernames were taken
said. Not going to lie, if a Squirrel
(40:27):
Squad spin off was announced I would watch it.
Another person keen for a Squirrel Squad spin off.
If you're listening Pokémon, youknow what to do.
Louis Ramos has included a picture of Goldene giving her a
horn attack straight to Ash's butt and he's put that was just
(40:49):
straight criminal. And lastly, Techie said Squirtle
is the best starter. That was some viewer comments
pulled straight from the Internet about Pokémon Season 1
episode 12. Alrighty, this is the part of
(41:11):
the show where we tell jokes. Well, I tell jokes and you
listen to the jokes. Luckily, there's a skip button
on most podcast platforms, so you can skip ahead anyway.
It's your favorite part of the show.
It's everyone's favorite part ofthe show.
It's the most popular part of the show.
(41:31):
It's time for Pokémon jokes. It's time for joke him on.
And now, taking the stage, please welcome Pokémon Trainer
Jed. OK, here we go.
(41:52):
It's time for the Pokémon jokes. Why does primate have big
nostrils? Because they have big fingers.
Why do gold lean and Sea King live in salt water?
(42:15):
Because pepper makes them sneeze.
Oh I feel I feel room for some good jokes today guys.
Why did the Ekens cross the road?
To get to the other side with lots of S S like a snake saying
(42:38):
what happened when Charizard atethe comedian, He felt funny.
Charizard obviously didn't eat me.
Which Pokémon only appear at night?
Star me and star you. That's quite sweet.
(43:03):
That's quite nice joke that. I guess that's what you want.
Jokes to be sweet. Anyway, what else we got?
Which Pokémon are on legal documents?
What's that? Let me read it again.
Which Pokémon are on legal documents?
(43:27):
All of them, I imagine, when it comes to Nintendo.
OK, where I am. Which Pokémon are on legal
documents? Seal.
That is correct. I guess the seal would be on a
(43:48):
legal document. How did a Lecter buzz get to
school on a school buzz? Jesus, right?
Here's the last one. Why did the pony tower have to
(44:09):
gargle? Why did the pony tower have to
gargle? Because it was a little horse
joke him on. OK, Dragonite has just flown in
(44:49):
through the window with his mailbag, so it must be time for
listener questions. Don't forget you can send your
questions in to the Pika Pals podcast across all socials.
You can find me at yeetamania oryou can send it over e-mail at
yeetamania@gmail.com. And then somehow Dragonite turns
(45:11):
those into physical letters and he puts them in an envelope and
then he seals them and not seal the Pokémon not we had just
learnt that he would be on legaldocuments.
Unless you're sending me legal documents, which you may be if
you are from the Nintendo company or the Pokémon Company,
(45:33):
you may be sending me legal documents.
But if you're sending me listener questions, then he
probably doesn't need to put a seal on them.
What? Well, you know, he licks the
envelope is what I meant to say anyway.
And Dragon Eye puts them all in his mailbag, flies in through my
window and delivers the Pokémon mail.
And the first question this weekcomes from JPEG.
(45:58):
JPEG says Hi Jed, love the Peaker Powers podcast.
My question is what Pokémon inspired snacks or dishes have
you tried or would you like to try?
Now there is quite a lot of Pokémon inspired food and
snacks, especially like candy and and sweet snacks and I know
(46:20):
that they're particularly available in Japan.
You can actually sign up to quite a few snack box
subscription services that deliver Japanese themed snacks
and Pokémon specific themed snacks actually, but I haven't
done that yet. May may do that at some point.
Maybe do a a review live on the podcast of a can of Pika pop or
(46:45):
a a bag of Jinx biscuits. Oh no, I just made myself laugh
with jinx biscuits. I don't know why Jinx Biscuits
it was so funny, but Jinx Biscuits definitely needs to be
a thing. If you're listening the Pokémon
(47:06):
Company and the Nintendo Company, you cannot steal Jinx
Biscuits and then send me a legal document with a seal on.
OK Jinx biscuits was first thought of here on the podcast,
but your question JPEG what Pokémon inspired snacks or
dishes have I tried? I haven't tried any specific
(47:27):
Pokémon inspired snacks, It's something that I'd like to do.
I always think that in the actual anime itself, Brock's
Jelly doughnuts is like rice balls that he have.
I think that they're sometimes translated to like doughnut or
an eclair in the in the English version, but they look really
nice. I'd like to try one of those.
(47:48):
A lot of Brock's cooking in particular looks nice in the
actual anime show, but in particular there isn't actually
a Pokémon snack or food that I think that I've had maybe a
chubber chub. Do you remember chubber chubs?
Pokémon chubber chub? You know the lolly?
And you, you undid the packet and there was a sticker inside.
Me and my brother used to collect the stickers and we put
them along the the bottom of ourbunk bed.
(48:11):
It'd stick all the stickers along there.
Should have kept that piece of wood.
If only we'd kept that piece of wood from the bunk bed with all
those stickers on. That might be worth the tenor or
something on eBay nowadays. Yeah.
Pokémon Chubba, Chubb. Does that count?
I think there was a Pokémon cereal at some point.
I've actually bought a Pokémon cookbook, so stay tuned to
(48:34):
Yeetomania socials as I'm hopingto team up with someone who I
know who is particularly good atcooking.
And if they're listening, then yes, that is you.
And and try some recipes from the Pokémon cookbook.
I had a flick through the book the other day and one of them
was a magic harp salad. And essentially it was just a
(48:55):
salad on a plate. And then you made a magic harp
fish out of a tomato. And then you made magic harps
fin out of a one's tiny slice ofa radish.
And I thought, well, that's great.
And it did look really cool, butwho's going to buy just one
(49:15):
radish? And then all you need the radish
for is 1 slice because you just slice off a tiny piece of the
radish and you put it on top of the slice of tomato to make it
look like magic harps fin. So if that's the way that the
recipes go in that Pokémon cookbook, there might be a lot
of food waste. Or I guess I could just make, I
(49:37):
don't know, 20 magic harps salads and just I could live off
of those for a month. Anyway, yeah, in answer to your
question, JPEG, I guess chubber chubs, the Pokémon chubber chubs
back in the day. I remember them being one of my
favorite things to get from the local shop.
But I do have a Pokémon cookbookwith jam packed with Pokémon
(50:02):
recipes. So stay tuned because I'd like
to try and and try try being thethe keyword some Pokémon
recipes. Thank you for your question.
Another question here comes fromSusan pie crust.
Is that did somebody plan that just talked about recipes and
cooking? And now this person's called
(50:22):
Susan pie crust. Alright, Susan pie crust Susan
pie crust says hello Pika pals podcast.
My question is which Pokémon do you think is the most sarcastic
and sassy? So have to have a think here for
(50:42):
for a moment. Who would be the most sarcastic
and sassy Pokémon? Well immediately Charizard is
actually quite sassy when you think about it.
He he doesn't necessarily obey Ash, he doesn't really have much
respect for him, not until laterin the series at least.
(51:03):
So. So Charizard maybe would be
considered to be a quite sarcastic and sassy Pokémon.
Jigglypuff has got to be up there because if you don't enjoy
Jigglypuff's singing, she will draw on your face.
And every time she's on screen she's just sassy.
And I think also as well that although we can't understand
(51:28):
necessarily what the character is saying, I do think that
elector buzz is probably very, very sarcastic.
And every time that elector buzzis on screen and shouting that,
it's probably something really sarcastic, you know, something
just really cutting and sarcastic.
(51:48):
And you'd be like, oh, that's typical elector buzz.
That is, that's just typical of elector buzz to say something
like that. And I think probably Elector
Buzz would be my #1 sarcastic and sassy Pokémon.
But thank you for your question.Susan Pycrust, Sue Pie.
Yes, one more here. Thank you.
(52:09):
Dragonite. Dragonite's just digging into
the bottom of his mailbag there.Don't know why you always have
to dig into the bottom of the mailbag.
Dragonite. There's only ever like 3
questions in there. Has a really tiny mailbag.
All right here. OK, pass it over.
Thank you Dragon Knight. Dragon Knight's getting sassy.
Dragon Knight might be on the list.
Sassy Pokémon. Final question from David
(52:32):
Freckle. David says.
Hello Jed. I really enjoyed the Peak of
Pounds podcast. I especially enjoyed your rap
about Brock. Oh well, thank you.
I'm still in negotiations to getthat song to a record label, and
I've got some more Pokémon raps and songs in the works.
(52:53):
I've become quite the, the, I don't know, I'm trying to think
what the word would be. I'm trying to the word spiff,
ironic if that's the word that I'm trying to think of.
I've become quite the word spiff, evidently.
And I've actually penned a couple more Pokémon songs, which
I'm really excited to, to release soon.
(53:15):
So, so stay tuned to the Peekabow's podcast.
I'm sure that they will be number one hits, but what was
your question anyway? Freckle David Freckle David
Freckle said what's the biggest Pokémon What if in your mind if
Pokémon released a what if series like Marvel?
(53:35):
Oh yeah, I'd OK, so the Marvel series on Disney plus, what if
shows potential storylines wheredifferent scenarios could have
happened. I haven't actually seen it, Mr.
Freckle. So, but I do know what you mean.
I think it's kind of like what what if the Incredible Hulk had
Thor's hammer? Or what if Iron Man had two
(54:01):
heads or something like that? And I mean, they're probably not
very good examples, but or you know, any, something like that.
I don't know any more charactersoff the top of my head.
Hulk, the Hulk, Hulk's 1, didn'the?
What if the Hulk had a oh, wait a minute, hold on a second.
(54:22):
The show's trying to cut me off early.
It's not time. It's not time to say goodbye
just yet. Can you just calm yourself?
OK, hold on a SEC. Apologies for that.
I'm not sure quite what happened.
Technical difficulty here At thePeak of Pounds podcast.
Someone was trying to take me off air early there.
It was not the time to say goodbye.
It will be very soon. So just hold your horses.
(54:43):
Hold your Ponytas, your little, your little horse.
Ponytas, I've forgotten what your question was.
What's the biggest Pokémon? What if in my mind, it could
have completely changed the trajectory of Pokémon,
especially the anime series, which is what this Pokémon
podcast focuses on. If Ash had woken up on time.
(55:05):
If Ash hadn't had such vivid Pokémon dreams and smashed his
alarm clock, imagine if he'd woken up and he'd got down to
the Pokémon Centre first. Imagine if he got there before
Garry Oak. Imagine if he got there before
the other Pallet Town trainers and he just straight up chose
his Pokémon that he wanted from the original 3.
(55:25):
And I believe that he was going to choose a squirrel.
So that would have changed Pokémon entirely.
And yeah, what if Ash had woken up on time and got to the
Pokémon Centre? What would have happened?
We would have never have met Pikachu, potentially.
I mean, I know he goes on to seeother Pikachus later in the
(55:46):
series, but it wouldn't have been the same relationship
between Pikachu and Ash. The whole Pokémon, the whole of
Pokémon would have been different.
It would have been all about Ashand Squirtle.
Which I guess is fitting considering that today's episode
was about introducing Squirtle. Yeah.
So I don't know. That's what I'm thinking.
(56:08):
What if Ash had woken up on time?
I sometimes think that myself. What if I'd woken up on time?
Think of all the things I could have done.
Anyway, thank you for all your questions to JPEG and Suzanne
Pycrust and David Freckle for your lovely questions.
Thank you for your support the show.
(56:29):
And don't forget you can send your questions in to find me on
social media or send an e-mail to at yeetomania@gmail.com.
Dragonite is gone. He's flown out the window, but
he will be back next week with more listener questions.
(56:52):
OK folks, let's look back on today's episode, it was the
Squirrel Squad and see what lifelessons we can take from the
world of Pokémon. Well, in this episode, the
Squirrel Squad, they were initially hostile and
dysfunctional towards the human characters due to their negative
experiences with previous trainers.
(57:14):
However, through their interactions with Ash and his
friends, they were eventually able to learn trust in humans
again, and they even became allies in a fight against Team
Rocket. This could teach us that it's
important to give people, or in this case Pokémon, a chance to
prove themselves. Even if we've had negative
(57:37):
experiences in the past. Everyone has the potential for
growth and change, and holding on to past grudges can prevent
us from forming meaningful relationships.
And that's where I think Here Comes the Squirrel Squad could
teach us about trust and second chances.
(57:58):
And that about brings us to the end of this week's podcast.
It's the end of the show, and you know what that means.
(58:31):
Who could have guessed that you and I, somehow, someway, we'd
have to say goodbye. Whoa.
Somehow, someway, we'd have to say goodbye.
Thank you everyone for listening.
Don't forget to leave a review and rating to help others
