information very soon. Please, please don't forget to
leave a comment and a rating andall that fun stuff as it really
does help out. But let's get to the episode.

(01:55):
OK Pokémon fans, we're up to episode 18, the original Pokémon
anime series. This one is called Mystery at
the Lighthouse. The Japanese title was Masaki's
Lighthouse, and it was first broadcast in Japan on June the
24th, 1997. It would then go on to be shown

(02:20):
in the United States and beyond on September the 24th, 1998.
This episode begins with Ash wandering through the forest
with his friends, and he's bragging about his recent
accomplishments. But Misty is quick to remind him
that he actually only got his badges out of pity, and claims

(02:41):
that any of the Pokémon that Ashhas so far have simply just
followed him. He hasn't actually caught any of
them in the wild. And Misty's not wrong.
In the last three episodes we'veseen Squirrel, Charmander, and
Bulbasaur or just kind of join Ash as a crew without him
finding them in a in the wild orcoming across them in a Pokémon

(03:03):
battle, they're kind of just tagged along.
Ash is not happy about this however, and runs off through
the forest, vowing to legitimately catch a Pokémon and
prove Misty wrong. And he soon finds himself at a
beach and notices a small Crabby.
Crabby, a crab type Pokémon if the name didn't give it away.

(03:27):
Crabby scurrying along the beachlike a crab does, and initially
Ash inadvertently insults Crabbyfor it's small size, but then
challenges it to a battle. However, Ash doesn't even bother
to call out one of his Pokémon He could have chosen.
His faithful Pikachu. He could have chosen one of his

(03:49):
new 3 starter Pokémon, He could have chosen Squirtle,
Charmander, or Boba Saw. But no.
Ash goes back to his old ways and decides to try and battle
the Pokémon himself with a stick, swiping at it with a
stick. Crabby able to fight back and
snaps the stick in half with little effort.

(04:10):
However, Ash would throw a pokerball out and miraculously is
actually able to capture the crabby.
This crabby must have been weak already.
Maybe it was a very low level, maybe it was sick, maybe it was
having a bad day. Maybe it had crab flu that time
and that's why it was able to becaught so easily.

(04:32):
But anyway, Ash has caught a newPokémon.
He has caught a crabby Pokémon Go.

(04:58):
No, I really caught one. Good try crabby, but not good
enough. What happened?
Where did my new crabby go? But he'd barely have time to
celebrate. He'd barely have time to brag to

(05:20):
Misty. Because just as Brock and Misty
arrive on the scene, the poker ball vanishes from his hand.
Misty and Brock inform Ash that Pokémon Trainers can only carry
a maximum of 6 Pokémon at any one time, and that any extras

(05:41):
get transferred back to the place where they originally got
their Pokedex from. So in this case for Ash, he got
his Pokedex from Professor Rogue's lab in Pallet Town.
Crabby is off to Pallet Town now.
This always kind of fascinated me as to how this works because
in the Nintendo games for Pokémon and actually in the

(06:03):
anime show itself, we do sometimes see these Pokémon
transfer system devices. Kind of like a large computer
with two nozzles each side. And you place your Pokeball
underneath the the suction nozzle and it goes whoop up into
the air and then shows on screenthat it's being transferred.

(06:23):
And you can even trade Pokémon that way or you can transfer
them to another location. But in this scenario, Ash has
caught one too many Pokémon thathe's allowed to actually carry,
so Crabby's poker paw just spontaneously disappears.
Just ping just just goes. But it's gone back to Professor

(06:46):
Oak's lab now. At this point, Pikachu spots
something in the distance, jumping around, excited.
He sees a lighthouse and Ash, Misty, and Brock are pretty
excited too as they decide to run towards it, and by the time
they actually arrive there, it'snight time.

(07:06):
That walk over to the lighthousemust have been a long one and
they're exhausted. They just want somewhere to stay
for the night. Ash rings the doorbell, only to
be greeted by an eerie voice. It asks them who they are and
Ash explains that him and his friends are are just in a bit of

(07:28):
a situation. They need somewhere to stay for
the night. It's night time, they've been
travelling all day. In fact, Brock even offers to
cook for the lighthouse keeper. And so they are granted
entrance. But as the door opens, they find
that there's nobody there to greet them.
Just this mysterious voice, likea a voice over like APA system

(07:51):
that's just speaking over the lighthouse itself, and Ash asks
the the voice if it could use the phone nearby.
He's keen to use the phone to get hold of Professor Roke
because he wants to ask about his crabby.
So Ash picks up the phone calls Professor Roke.

(08:12):
He's just in the middle of cooking.
He's probably pretty annoyed that Ash has called him.
He's like just when I was about to start doing something.
Hopefully he's not having crab sticks or crab soup ash cause
Professor Oak asks about his crabby.
Relieved to find out Professor Oak isn't actually eating crabby

(08:33):
and finds out that Krabby is. There has been transferred safe
and sound. But he can't really celebrate
too much because he finds out that Gary has also caught a
crabby, and Professor Oak tells Ash that Gary's crabby is much,
much bigger than his, but size isn't everything when it comes

(08:55):
to Crabby. Ash goes on to face further
humiliation from Professor Oak, finding out that Gary has
already caught 45 Pokémon, dwarfing Ash's mere 7 Pokémon
that he has caught so far. Professor Roke tells them that
they're calling from Bill's lighthouse, maybe must have

(09:19):
caller ID on on his phone, and he lets them know that Bill is a
Pokémon researcher, very, very knowledgeable about all Pokémon,
and he even says that he's more knowledgeable than Professor
Roke himself. Now Bill overhears this, the
mysterious voice who seems to own the lighthouse, and he

(09:43):
accepts Professor Oak's request to give Ash, Brock, and Misty a
crash course in all things Pokémon.
But where are you, Bill? We need to see you.
All we've heard so far is your voice.
You're a bit like me doing a podcast.
We never see your face. We only ever hear your voice.
But I'm not Bill, and Bill is not doing a podcast, at least

(10:07):
not that I know of. Bill's Lighthouse podcast,
although that would actually be good.
We totally listen to that, especially if he's really
knowledgeable about Pokémon. It's more knowledgeable than me,
that's for sure. More knowledgeable than
Professor Rogue. But anyway, Bill does appear.
At this point, the lights turn on and we see a giant Kabuto.

(10:28):
Oh, that must be Bill. Bill's lighthouse.
He's a young Pokémon researcher who knows even more than me.
See what you can learn from him.He could teach you just about
everything about Pokémon and then some.
This is Bill, Professor Oak. Good to hear from you.
Hello, Bill. Please give my friends a crash
course of Pokémon. Oh, Tofu's done.

(10:54):
Well, there's no way I can ignore a request from the great
Professor Oak. I am Bill of the Lighthouse.
Now, meanwhile, Team Rocket. They're making their impact on
this episode because they have set their sights on stealing all

(11:18):
of the rare Pokémon inside of Bill's lighthouse.
We actually see them scaling theside of the sea cliffs here as
they perform their Team Rocket motto and they are making their
way hold on the tail of Ash and his friends.
They are about to arrive on the scene and cause trouble.

(11:40):
In fact, double trouble. Now back inside the lighthouse,
Ash and his friends realize thatthe giant Kabuto isn't Bill.
Well, it is Bill, and it's not Bill.
It's a giant costume. And Bill is inside.
In fact, he's stuck inside, and he tells Ash that he's been

(12:00):
stuck inside the Pokémon suit for hours.
Poor Bill. Hope he didn't need to go to the
bathroom. That wouldn't be a good good day
for Bill, would it? That'd be.
In fact, I'd probably leave him zipped in there in that case.
But Ash helps Bill out of the costume, is able to undo the
zip, which Bill wasn't able to reach, and he explains to Ash

(12:22):
and his friends all about Pokémon.
He lets them know that there areover 150 known Pokémon species,
but he says there's one in particular that he is searching
for. He claims that it's the largest
Pokémon ever. He says it's so unique that

(12:42):
nobody has ever laid eyes upon it.
And he takes the trio out onto the observation deck to overlook
the ocean. He reveals that he heard a
strange noise coming across the ocean from the Pokémon one
night, but it was the only time he's ever heard it.
And as Bill reminisces, suddenlythe sound is heard again.

(13:06):
How about that? That was convenient, wasn't it?
So we hear the sound of a giant Dragonite and as a Dragonite
appears rising from the ocean, Godzilla esque, it's making its
way towards the lighthouse and Bill is ecstatic he is over the

(13:28):
moon because he has been trying to track down this particular
Pokémon for so long. He heard it once, but he wasn't
quite sure, and now he's heard it again, and now he can
actually see it in the distance. Now Dragonite's making its way
towards the lighthouse, but TeamRocket, don't forget about them.

(13:50):
They're still scaling the Cliff face, and they spot the Dragon
Knight too. Now, to begin with, they're kind
of mesmerized by its beautiful haunting sound that Dragon
Knight makes, but they then begin to launch a barrage of
missiles to try and capture it. Like they've just got full on

(14:11):
rocket launchers and bazookas, which I guess they're the same
thing. But well, anyway, did they got
rocket launchers, which is probably why they're called Team
Rocket. And and they're just blasting
this poor old Dragonite who's only just come out of the sea.
He's so rare that nobody's ever seen him before.
And Team Rocket are immediately trying to capture it.

(14:34):
Now this understandably angers Dragonite and it goes into a
rage and starts smashing everything inside.
It smashes the top of the lighthouse, it smashes the side
of the Cliff, and it swings its tail and sends Team Rocket
blasting off again. Please don't go Pokémon, please

(15:12):
stay with us. I've waited so long for a chance
to see you here. Pokémon wait.
Do we always have to mess up? Everyone's plans, even I think
this is rotten. Quit complaining, we can score
big with this Pokémon. Bill is distraught, all he

(15:40):
wanted to do was say hello to Dragon Knight and he calls out
for Dragon Knight, begging for it to stay but to no avail as
Dragon Knight turns around, walks away, disappears into the
foggy sea and that is the last that we would see of Dragon
Knight. Dragon Knight tried to

(16:02):
communicate with humans, he tried to come and say hello and
Team Rocket spoil it for everyone.
Now in the morning, Bill seems to be at peace.
Despite failing to learn more about this particular Pokémon,
he's grateful that he got to seeit at all, which is a nice way
to look at things. Bill.
He bids farewell to Ash and his friends as they continue on

(16:26):
their journey, and that will be the end of this episode.
We got to see Ash catch a Crabby.
We found out that a Pokémon Trainer can only have 6 Pokémon
on hand at once and that any extras will be sent back to
Professor Oaks Laboratory. We learnt that because Ash

(16:46):
already had six Pokémon, his newly captured Crabby was sent
back to Professor Oaks Laboratory.
Hopefully likes tofu because that sounds like what was on the
menu. We find out that Gary is also
called a Crabby and his is Mega,a Mega Crabby.
And we also find out that Gary has 45 Pokémon already.

(17:07):
How has he managed that? I mean, we didn't find out if
they're different Pokémon. He might have just caught 45
piggies, who knows? And we got to meet the
Lighthouse Keeper Bill. We saw the debut of Crabby, we
saw the debut of Dragonite. And although Dragonite was very

(17:29):
mysterious in this episode, I'vedone my own Pokémon research.
Bill would be proud because Dragonite is this week's Pokémon
Spotlight. Dragonite National Pokedex

(17:51):
number is 149. It is a dragon and flying type
Pokémon with the abilities of inner focus and multi scale.
Now Dragonite has light orange skin.
It's very large and has grey greenish eyes and a round snout

(18:14):
with small nostrils. It has a long thin pair of
antenna that's spread out from the top of its head and two
small horns set between them. Dragonite's underbelly is a
cream coloured and that extends from its neck right the way to
the tip of its tail. Dragonite is a very stocky

(18:38):
dragon. If you, if he's his arms, his
legs, everything about him, he'svery, very thick.
Dragon chungus. Do people still have chungus?
Is that a word? Still, he's a Chungus of a
dragon, and although he's he's very round in appearance,
Dragonite's wings are actually relatively small in comparison

(18:59):
to its body. Pokémon Sleep facts coming at
you. Dragonite is known to sleep
soundly while displaying its belly.
He loves a bit of belly up sleep.
Does Dragonite? But it's very rare to ever catch
a Dragonite sleeping, and if youdo it would be because the
Dragonite is completely exhausted after flying over vast

(19:22):
seas. Now despite its bulky build of
being a chungus of a Dragonite, Dragonite is capable of flying
faster than the speed of sound and it can circle the globe in
16 hours. Dragonite is a very kind hearted
Pokémon and has a human like intelligence.

(19:44):
It's said that Dragonite will save humans from drowning and
will help lost ships to safety at sea.
It's very nice of you, Dragonite.
He's like his own lighthouse, isn't he?
Talk about Bill's lighthouse. Dragon Eye is a lighthouse in
his own. Now, Dragon Eye will usually be
calm, but if you make one angry,it will go on such a destructive

(20:07):
rampage that it will smash everything in its environment
that it feels threatened by, andit won't stop until it is
absolutely smashed everything. So word of advice, do not make a
Dragon Eye angry. Team Rocket found that out the
hard way. Now, Dragonite is very rare to
come across in the wild, especially on the Pokémon

(20:30):
Nintendo games. It lives near the sea, and in an
illustrated Book of Pocket monsters.
I did a bit of research and found out that Dragonite's
family are actually categorized alongside legendary Pokémon, and
it's claimed that there could bean island in the ocean that only

(20:52):
Dragonite inhabit. That would be pretty cool,
wouldn't it? Dragonite Island.
Dragonite is the final evolutionary stage of Dratini,
who evolves into Dragonair and then into Dragonite.
And Dragonite actually resemblesa Japanese dragon, a European

(21:13):
dragon or a dragon from a fairy tale.
That's kind of where it gets itsorigin of its look from.
And its nickname known as Guardian of the Sea could
suggest that it's taking some inspiration from Chinese dragon
mythology as well. Dragonite's name combination of
the word dragon and night, as in, you know, a night with

(21:36):
silver mesh hat? Is that what they call it?
Silver mesh hat and a vest and asword.
But also night, as in day and night.
But also Dragonite, which was a mythical stone said to be found
inside the heads of Dragons. Did you know that?
I didn't know that there was a mythical stone inside of a
Dragon's head. But then again, I've never

(21:58):
cracked open a Dragon's head to find out.
But that's where he gets his name from.
And that's a little bit of Pokémon trivia for you about
Dragonite and I will be back. But first we got to take a pause

Peak Powers Podcast appreciates your support.
Now, I've had a few comments asking about doing a Who's that
Pokémon section, so let's give it a go.

(26:14):
I'm going to give you the Who's that Pokémon clue and then I
want you to put your comments onthe episode or send me a message
on social media and let me know if you can tell who it is.
So let's give it a go. See if you can tell who this is.
Who's that Pokémon? OK, so I'm referring to my

(26:38):
official Pokémon Handbook, the ultimate guide for all Pokémon
Trainers. This is actually the Deluxe
edition, so don't want to brag, but let's see if you can guess
who this Pokémon is and I'll read some information out.
I'll try and leave out the name and kind of be pointless
otherwise. This Pokémon will attack anyone

(27:02):
or anything that enters their territory.
This Pokémon knows the techniques, bubble and layer.
It also knows voice, grip, and guillotine.
Need some more? You could also teach this
Pokémon Stomp or Harden. It's good against fire type,

(27:30):
ground type, and rock type Pokémon.
It's bad against water type, electric type, grass type, and
dragon type Pokémon. And finally, this Pokémon can
evolve at level 28. So.

(27:53):
So who was that Pokémon? Put your comments in the comment
section. And then if you've got it right,
then just imagine that sound playing in the head.
It's put a comment in the comment section.
Who's that Pokémon audio version?
Yep. See if it works.
Let's see if it works. Ladies and gentlemen, let's just
see if it works, OK? Fitting that this episode

(28:16):
featured the sea because we're about to do a deep dive.
A deep dive into the episode with some episode trivia.
I have scoured the Internet and big thanks to Bulbapedia for all
the amazing Pokémon facts that they have on there.
And here are some facts about this particular episode.

(28:37):
So at the beginning of this episode, there are several
unidentified Pokémon League badges seen in the background.
This also marks the 4th episode in a row in which Ash catches a
Pokémon. This will be the most episodes
in a row with Ash as the main protagonist where he would catch

(29:00):
a Pokémon in each episode. So Ash is on a hot streak right
now. He's caught 4 Pokémon 4 episodes
in a row. Although, as Misty pointed out,
some of them kind of just followed him along.
And then even Crabby, he just kind of swung a sticker.
But let's give him credit where credit's due, Ash has got four

(29:22):
in a row. This episode confirms just like
the Nintendo games, that a Pokémon Trainer can only carry 6
Pokémon at a time. Now also in this episode, the
4th wall is broken when Ash answers the narrator's question
as to what Pokémon he currently has.

(29:42):
Ash and the narrator having a conversation.
And we're a big fan of the narrator here on the Peak Up
House podcast because the actualPokémon narrator introduces my
show. Still can't believe that us
incredible. In this episode, Brock mentions
that trainers can switch the Pokémon in their possession by

(30:03):
pressing a button inside their Pokedex, suggesting that
additional Pokémon are kept in computer storage similar to in
the games. However, this rule is actually
immediately dropped in future episodes as Ash would always
have to call Professor Oak and ask to switch his Pokémon and

(30:24):
have them sent through the Pokémon Transfer system.
So slight difference there to the reference that Brock makes
and then what we would see laterin the episodes.
This is the first time that Ash and one of his rivals are
confirmed to have a Pokémon of the same species in Crabby.

(30:48):
We know that Ash called a Crabby, but Professor Roke was
like, that's great Ash, but Garyalready has a Crabby and it's
humongous. Gary's Crabby is also the first
Pokémon Gary is confirmed to own.
Now we know that he will have chosen a starter Pokémon, and we
haven't found out who that is yet in the episodes that we're
watching. And at this stage as well, Ash

(31:11):
has now caught all of the starter Pokémon choices, so they
do have that Pokémon in common. But in terms of the Pokémon that
Gary has, we've only actually found out that he has a Krabby.
Even though he's caught an abundance of Pokémon compared to
Ash, we don't know what they are.
In this episode, Bill is depicted as having green hair.

(31:32):
He actually looks pretty funky. Bill, he's a cool looking
character, but this is the only time that this is a case, as in
recurring appearances of Bill. He has brown hair.
Maybe he was just dyeing it for for, I don't know, maybe just
having an experiment dye his hair green, see if the Dragonite
would have liked it. Now this is the second episode
after Showdown in Pewter City where Team Rocket does appear,

(31:57):
but Ash and his friends don't actually encounter them.
So they were in the episode, they were on the side of the
Cliff face, Ash and Misty and Brock were at the top of the
Cliff. They were literally standing
right above Team Rocket, but they didn't actually see them
even though they were in the same episode.
Now, Dragonite does a roar similar to a Godzilla when hit

(32:18):
by Team Rocket, and I made a reference to Godzilla earlier in
the podcast, saying that as the Dragonite emerged from the sea,
it was very Godzilla esque. And the plot of this episode is
likely based on the short story The Foghorn by Ray Bradbury,
which has also contributed to the creation of the Godzilla

(32:40):
franchise. In that story, a sea monster is
the only one left of its kind. Here is a foghorn.
It sounds similar to its own voice and it's attracted to it
and tries to find out what it is.
At the end of this episode, whenAsh asks Bill if he thinks every
species of Pokémon will be discovered, a dragonite shaped

(33:02):
cloud can be seen in the sky. Did you ever play that game?
When you're a kid? You look up at the sky and be
like, oh look, that cloud looks like Mr. Mime.
Oh look, that cloud looks like Pikachu.
Actually, I'd like to see a Mr. Mime shaped cloud.
That'd be, that'd be pretty cool.
What do most clouds look like? Diglett.

(33:23):
I suppose the cloud would look like a Diglett.
Yeah, but getting off topic now.In this episode, despite the
fact that Bill claims that Dragonite is the last of its
kind, several other Dragonite actually appear in later
seasons. But they're regular sized
Dragonite. They're not like mega.
They're not like Mega sized Dragonite.

(33:45):
Bill was referring to this particular Dragonite being the
last of its kind, but not the last of its species.
And he meant that because of itssheer size, because it was an
absolute chungus of a dragonite. He, he was like, this has got to
be the last chungus Dragonite out there.
And this is also one of the few episodes that mentioned people

(34:05):
eating Pokémon as Ash called Professor Roke.
He was worried that Professor Roke might have been cooking his
crabby into a crab Stew, put himin an old crab pot.
But he he wasn't Professor Roke was, was making some tofu
instead. We do see people eating though
in in, in other episodes, but wedon't necessarily hear the fact

(34:28):
that somebody might have eaten the Pokémon.
I think that this is referring to the fact that Ash was worried
that Professor Rogue was eating his crabby.
And that kind of opens up a entirely different aspect as to
like, can you eat Pokémon? I guess you can.
Which Pokémon would be like most?

(34:52):
I don't know, actually. Let's don't go down that route.
I don't want to eat a Pokémon. Imagine eating a Voltorb.
That wouldn't taste nice. We wouldn't eat a Voltorb, would
you? That's just ridiculous.
Of course you'd eat something like a Torah, so I imagine maybe
you'd eat a piggy. We wouldn't eat a piggy because
people don't eat pigeons in reallife.
Maybe. I don't know.
Homeless people might eat pigeons.

(35:15):
Pigeons. Homeless people might eat
pigeons. Not by choice, just by
necessity, I suppose. But what about a Dodrea?
Would you eat that? So that's kind of like an
ostrich. Do people eat ostrich?
They might lay eggs. If people were going to eat
Pokémon, what Pokémon would people eat?
I mean, you wouldn't eat a Pikachu because that's a mouse

(35:36):
and nobody eats mice. Just wouldn't eat a Charmander
because like, nobody eats lizards, I guess.
Unfortunately, the fish Pokémon are not going to be boding well
when it comes to this. Goldene could eat, although they
might be poisonous though. Might not want to eat gold.
Dean, let me know. Let me know which Pokémon you

(35:59):
would or wouldn't want to eat. Get magic carp.
The magic carp's really scaly, like you break your teeth on a
magic carp. I don't know, There's got to be
something. There's got to be something
that's appetizing as a Pokémon anyway.
And finally, what were you even doing?

(36:22):
Oh yeah. Episode trivia.
This episode is the first of only three times in the anime
series where a Pokémon is caughtduring a battle with a human.
So Ash didn't use one of his Pokémon battle against Krabby.
In fact, he just battled it himself with a stick.
And I didn't think it was going to work.
But it did. And it's one of the only times

(36:43):
that we actually see. That happen now if.
You're going to go back and watch this episode yourself.
Keep a look out for some of these errors that I spotted.
When Krabby pinches Ash's finger, it pinches his left
index finger. But when we cut to the next
shot, the wound appears on his right index finger.

(37:04):
Oh. Tut, tut, tut.
After Crabby's Pokeball disappears, the white strap on
Ash's bag turns orange. Tut tut tut.
And when Team Rock is discussinghow they will break into the
lighthouse, Meowth's ear turns blue.

(37:25):
Tut, tut, tut. Really need to remaster these
episodes. I mean, it was difficult for me
to go back and watch some of these errors.
Maybe it was just cold. Maybe my mouth had a cold air
and that's maybe why it went blue.
Dub edits? We like looking at some dub
edits here on the Bigger Powers podcast because the original
Japanese broadcast, Pocket Monsters, was changed from what

(37:47):
we actually saw in the West, andsometimes changed locally in
other countries as well. But in this particular episode,
I found out that the conversation between Brock and
Bill is different between the two versions.
In the original Japanese version, Brock asks if he can
use his kitchen so he can make some delicious tomato chahan and

(38:14):
nebe. I have no idea if that's
pronounced correctly. For those wondering what a nabe
is, nabe mono is a variety of a Japanese hot pot dish.
Like a Japanese Stew. I guess.
Might have just insulted Japanese cuisine.

(38:35):
I'm really sorry if I did. There's a dumpling.
A Japanese dumpling is essentially the same as a
British doughboy. You know those, You've read
them. Dough boys like them.
Just dough boys. I could eat dough boys on their
own. Yeah.
Well, anyway, in the Japanese version, he's like, can I cook

(38:56):
this? But Bill asks if he could also
make. OK, right.
In the original version, Bill also asks Brock if he could make
yakisoba. Yakisoba is a fried noodle dish

(39:16):
in Japan, and usually the noodles are made from buckwheat
flour. It's kind of like, I don't know,
Chinese style noodles, but in Japan and they are typically
flavoured with a condiment similar to Worcestershire Shire
sauce. Worcestershire, Worcestershire.
Worcestershire. Worcestershire.

(39:38):
Worcestershire. Oh no, that's one of those words
I can't say. Worcestershire, Worcestershire.
Worcestershire Worcestershire sauce Worcester Sir Worcester
Sir sauce Worcester Worcester sauce.
It's made with that sauce. God damn it, I've never read
that. Why don't I just edit this bit
out? In the original Japanese

(40:25):
version, Brock and Bill having conversation about what Brock's
going to make, and it's actuallydifferent.
In the original Japanese versionhe refers to some very localized
Japanese dishes, but in the British version, Brock asks if
he could use the kitchen to makea bacon double cheeseburger for

(40:45):
his group. Now, probably because of people
not being too familiar with those dishes and I don't know
why I'm very familiar with nabe and yakisoba and zetekaya, but
because a western audience maybewouldn't have been familiar with
those dishes, they made a dub edit and instead Brock asked if

(41:08):
he'd make some bacon double cheeseburgers and Bill asks if
he could make anything without tofu, to which Brock responded
he can. So Bill gladly agreed to let him
use the kitchen as long as he didn't use any tofu.
Bill didn't want to see a singlepiece of tofu on his plate.

(41:29):
God, we got that out of the way. Also, this isn't even the joke
section. Also, in the original Japanese
version, Misty identifies that Bill's phone resembles a bell
sprout. In the dubbed version, however,
she simply points out that it's a video phone, and also Ash

(41:52):
calls Oak directly by his phone number, but in the Japanese
version he calls him via a collect call.

(42:21):
Hello you have a collect call from Ash.
If you would like to accept the call please press 1.
If you would like to decline a call, please.
Hang up professor in Bollywood hang up.
It's really annoying when peopleused to do that.
Remember O800 reverse, 0800 reverse.

(42:43):
Don't know if it's not the advert.
I don't know. I think that might have been the
advert. And yeah, I used to do that
sometimes if I needed to get thebus home from college, but then
I needed to be picked up from where the bus dropped me off.
I'd call my mum or dad on 0800 reverse and then it call would
cost like £10 or something. Dear, let's get through these

(43:05):
dub edits. Let's get through these dub
edits now. In the original version,
Professor Oak tells Ash that he called him in the middle of
cooking nabe. Oh, what's it?
Professor Oak's got nabe as well, Is it?
He's having that as well. Why aren't he eating bacon?

(43:25):
Double cheeseburgers just make it easier.
What did they put in the dubbed version?
But in the dubbed version, Professor Oak mentions that he's
making tofu because his cook is on vacation.
Professor Oak has a cook fancy dab.
Now Speaking of tofu, which is I'm sure what you all TuneIn for

(43:47):
on the Peak Pounds podcast, thissegment has gone.
Not how I was expecting it to go.
In the original dubbed version, it is implied that Professor Oak
and Bill dislike tofu. But in the original version,
it's implied that they actually enjoy eating tofu.

(44:11):
I can I can understand why that needed to be changed, you know,
to been cultural outcry if that was translated into another
country. Finally, in the English dub,
Professor Oak says that tofu is done when talking to Ash.
That's when he wants to end the call because he's realised he's
on collect. You're on O 800 collect.

(44:31):
He says, oh, I've got to go. Tofu's done, but in the
Brazilian and Portuguese dub he says he's got to go because the
tofu was burned. Why do I do this?
I made it to episode 18. I've got like.

(44:53):
So many episodes to go, let's have a look at what people
thought of this episode. Taking some comments from the
Internet, it's IMDb the very best.
OK, here are some comments from.Real people who watched this

(45:18):
episode, it's IMDb the very bestlike no one ever was.
For Pokémon Season 1 episode 13,Andreita says they mistreated
Dragonite and the hindered science.
Why are Team rockets so dumb? Dan said can only have 6 Pokémon

(45:42):
at once. But episode before the guy who
was Charmander's owner had more than six.
Well, Dan, if you'd listened to that Pikapal's podcast episode,
you will have found out that it's theory that the reason why
that guy in particular. Charmander, oh Charmander, I

(46:05):
could have get you. So he had multiple poker balls,
but they could have been empty, or he wasn't actually an
officially registered Pokémon trainer, so there was no way for
his Pokémon to be tracked, Vinnysays.
Wait, you can transfer Pokémon from your Pokedex?

(46:25):
Why the heck did I have to go tothe Pokémon centre every time in
the games We. As we've pointed out in this
episode, there's a slight inconsistency with Brock
mentioning that fact. Hurricane.
Not sure if that's Hurricane Helms stand back.
There's a hurricane coming through, Hurricane Helms, says.

(46:49):
Poor Dragonite. He finally.
Came to have friends. But he got attacked and flees.
Don't If he had fleas, an assumption to make.
Oh, oh, I get it. He fled.

(47:12):
It meant that he fled. You might have had fleas measure
Tommy Us, says Dragon Eye didn'tdeserve that, Prachi says.
We built our fame on shame. You know it.

(47:35):
At least they own it. In reference to Team Rocket,
Jiglio TE Grotto says Garry's crabby, maybe three times ashes,
but his one has a tiny portrait of his trainer in his bowl.
Nice, nice pointing out there Jiggly O Terragory nice pointing

(47:59):
out there D nice pointing out there.
As in this episode, we actually do see that Ash's crabby and
Garry's crabby are in their own bowls and Ash this little stamp
picture of Ash on crabbies. I don't think that that.
Is for Crabby's sake. I don't really think he's put

(48:21):
that up on the wall like decorative.
I think that Professor Oak really stuck.
That on there. So that he remembers whose
Crabby is whose. But yeah, it's nice to think
that Crabby loved his owner so much, who just attacked him with
a stick and then sent him transferring halfway across the

(48:41):
map to a random old man's house. That he loved him so much he
would have put a picture of him up on the wall because I guess
his bowl, his tank, his crab tank is like his living room so
he can decorate. And yeah, Gary's crabby didn't
have a big picture on him, so maybe he doesn't love him.

(49:04):
Lucas Das said. Dragonite Zilla, another
reference to Godzilla there. Not so said.
This is such a good episode. This episode contains so much
information about the Pokémon universe.
It's a very important episode for understanding the Pokémon
world. I think that's true and I think.

(49:24):
That's a great comment to end onbecause some might think this is
a filler episode or just an episode that you can skip, but
it is actually very interesting. We found out about all the
different types of Pokémon. We found out about legendary
Pokémon. We found out how many Pokémon,
Pokémon Trainer can carry. And yeah.
Well, that was that was all veryinteresting in this particular

(49:46):
episode and that's what you guysthought of this episode.
Thank you for your comments. Do you
want to hear some Pokémon jokes? This entire podcast has been a

(50:07):
joke so far. It's time for everyone's
favorite segment. It's time for joking on.
OK, this is the part of the showwhere I tell Pokémon jokes.
Why doesn't Goldeen play tennis?Because she's scared of the net.

(50:33):
What's Pikachu's favorite game? Hide and squeak.
Why did R Park go? Because it had bit in its
tongue. What do you call?

(50:59):
2 monkeys who share an Amazon account Prime mates.
I just thought of 2 monkeys sharing an Amazon account.
Money. Anyway.
OK. That was pretty good.
When a Pokémon gets sick, does it need a Pokémon Ball?

(51:27):
When a Pokémon gets sick, does it need a Pokémon Ball?
What Pokémon is the best at baseball?
Zubat, of course. Why was Crabby arrested?

(51:50):
Yeah, it's fitting we met Crabbyin this episode.
Why was Crabby arrested? For pinching stuff?
Oh jeez, why did the Wobbeffet get?
Hired at the restaurant. Because he's always wobbling the

(52:10):
buffet and makes a great host. I don't think that would make
it. You wouldn't want someone to be
wobbling the buffet, would you? Be a bad thing to do.
This is the last one ever. This is the last one ever.
Julie Puff put on a concert hoping to showcase her best

(52:33):
performances as she sang her signature tune.
The entire audience fell asleep. When she finished her song, she
found all her fans snoring, Frustrated yet flattered.
Jigglypuff decided it was the best compliment they could have
ever given her. I was joking on everyone.

(52:58):
That was the Pokémon jokes this week.
Your silence is the best compliment you could have.
You've ever given me? Is there any?

(53:23):
Questions this week, let's have a look inside Dragonite's
mailbag. Dragonite's just flying in
through the window with his mailbag.
A Dragonite. We were talking about you in
today's episode. It wasn't you.
That was your cousin. You, you don't get on with your
cousin. OK, any mail in the bag?

(53:49):
Yes. All right, let's have a look.
The 1st letter here comes from Johnny Tripod.
Now, he says, if Pokémon could learn human skills, which one do
you think would be the best at cooking or baking?
If Pokémon could learn human skills, which one would be the

(54:11):
best at cooking or baking? Maybe Snorlax, because Snorlax
does like food, and you'd think that a Pokémon who likes eating
food that much may also enjoy making food.
Snorlax's bakery has a nice ringto it.
I think Jinx could make some real homely meals, you know,

(54:35):
like Mother used to make drinks could probably whip up a good
dish. And surprisingly, although
people may think it's the obvious answer, probably Mr.
Mime, because Mr. Mime already helps out around the house.
He does the chores, he does the cooking and the cleaning for

(54:57):
Ashley's mum. In a later episode, we find out.
Spoiler alert. So yeah, Mr. Mime would probably
be pretty good at cooking, but also, I don't know if you could
trust everything that Mister Mime served you because it may
know. That's all I'm saying.
But anyway, thank you for your question.

(55:19):
OK, And the next question, thankyou very much.
Dragonite is from Olivia Cloud, and Olivia Cloud says if Pokémon
were office workers, which one would be the most efficient
employee and which one would be the office slacker?
There's two very similar questions.
Pokémon getting jobs in the realworld seems to be people very

(55:41):
fascinated with that concept. I don't know why you're asking
me yet. Snorlax would probably be the
office slacker. In fact, he probably wouldn't
even show up to work. And As for who would be the most
efficient? Maybe someone like Hitmon Lee or

(56:03):
Hitmon Chan, because I think they're very disciplined and
they respect the task that they're given.
They respect the job that they're given.
And so they would be very focused on on the task.
And a Hitmon Lee in a shirt and tie be quite funny.
Hitmonchan on a, on a Zoom call being on Hitmonchan, you're on

(56:26):
mute. No Hitmonchan.
Hitmonchan, you're on. Hitmonchan you're on mute.
Yeah, that would be a funny scenario.
So maybe Hitmonley and Hitmonchan were put in the most
effort in the office. Job and Snorlax would be the
laziest. Okay, any other questions in the
mailbag? Dragonite, No, no, he's got

(56:49):
Dragon Knight's garden. He's flown out the window.
So that's the end of the questions.
Thank you for sending those questions in.
Don't forget you can send your questions into the show.
You can send it to me on social media at Yeetamania.
And before we end, I always liketo look at a Pokémon life
lesson. Let's reflect on the episode
that we've watched today. Now, I think that this episode

(57:11):
featuring Bill's encounter with the Dragonite offers a valuable
life lesson about gratitude and appreciating the fleeting
moments. In this episode, Bill
exemplifies the positive mindsetby just being grateful for
having seen the Dragonite despite the fact it ran away.
You could draw a real life lesson from this by

(57:33):
acknowledging that not all experiences and relationships
are permanent, but that doesn't diminish their significance.
Just like Dragonite had a brief appearance, we might encounter
special moments or people in life that may not stay.
Forever. So let's all adopt Bill's
perspective. We can learn to focus on the

(57:54):
positive aspects of our encounters and appreciate the
beauty of the moment. Thanks, Lighthouse Bill.
And that's the end of the show. And you know what that means?
The time has come up. It's for the best, I know it.

(58:24):
Who could have guessed that? You and I, somehow, someway, we
have to say goodbye. Somehow, someway.
We'd have to say goodbye. Thank you everyone for

(58:45):
listening. Don't forget to leave a review

Thank you so so much. You can catch me across all the

your Pokémon questions. But I binge it.
