(00:04):
Welcome friends to Preach ItGirl podcast, a place where we
aren't just sitting aroundwaiting for Jesus's second
coming or skinny pop to make usskinny.
I mean, those things are boundto happen, but while we wait,
join me Auntie Lala for a jauntthrough the scriptures so lively
you'll think they were writtenjust yesterday, not 2000 years
ago.
Now put on your listening earsfor a somewhat sassy retelling

(00:27):
of stories from the Bible.
Y'all, there are some seriouslysassy women in the Bible, and I
can't wait for you to hear theirstories.
You might be wondering who I am.
Well shucks, I'm a sassy womanjust like you, who loves Jesus
and has finally come to theconclusion that Jesus loves
women, and dare I say, especially the sassy ones.
Today we're going to hear astory from the sassy woman of

(00:49):
Samaria, and let me tell you,she does not disappoint.
We're going to go to Johnchapter four and let me just
preface this.
Jesus and the disciples aremaking their way to Jerusalem
and they have to pass throughthe land of Samaria.
The Jews and the Samaritans didnot get along.
The Samaritans only believe likethe first few books of the Bible
of Moses, the law, and didn'thave all the prophets.

(01:10):
There was just a whole thingbetween them.
And actually, there's a fewstories in the Bible, and this
is just one of them that givesyou a taste of really the kind
of person Jesus is We're goingto go to John 4, 4 31.
And he had to pass throughSamaria.
So he came to a town calledSincar, near the field that
Jacob had given to his sonJoseph.
Jacob's well was there, soJesus, wearied as he was from

(01:32):
his journey, was sitting besidethe well.
It was about the sixth hour.
A woman from Samaria came todraw water.
Jesus said to her, Give me adrink.
For his disciples had gone awayfrom the city to buy food.
The Samaritan woman said to him,How is it that you, a Jew, ask
for a drink from a woman ofSamaria?
For Jews have no dealings withSamaritans.

(01:53):
here's this woman at the sixthhour.
The middle of the day.
It's hot.
She's tired..
She's coming to the well to getwater, which she has to do every
day.
Generally, it would be expectedthat she'd go in the morning and
it'd be a group of women thatwould come together.
Well, she's all alone.
So that says something abouther.
She sees this man, who I thinkshe thinks, You know what?

(02:14):
Who does he think he is?
He's sitting here asking me fora drink like I don't know he's
Jewish and that he's not reallysupposed to be talking to me.
And honestly, I'm tired as allget out and hot.
And I don't have time for him.
Jesus replied, if you only knewthe gift God has for you and who
you are speaking to, you wouldask me and I would give you

(02:35):
living water.
Now, at this point, I thinkshe's sizing him up with a good,
up and down look.
You know what I mean?
he doesn't have a bucket.
I think she's thinking he'smaybe having a heat stroke, but
sir, you don't have a rope or abucket.
And this well is very deep.
Where would you get this livingwater?
And besides, do you think you'regreater than our ancestor Jacob?
And Who gave us this?

(02:56):
Well, how can you offer betterwater than he and his sons and
his animals enjoyed?
I think Jesus kind of smiled.
Anyone who drinks this waterwill soon become thirsty again.
He said, but those who drink thewater I give will never be
thirsty again.
It becomes a fresh, bubblingspring within them, giving them
eternal life.

(03:16):
Oh, I think she thought, okay, well shoot if that's what you
got, I want some of that.
She said, sir, give me thiswater.
Then I'll never be thirstyagain.
I won't have to come here andget water.
I think she's being sarcasticright here.
Oh yeah.
Give me some of that because,uh, You know, it'd be nice not
to have to truck out here everyday with my bucket in the middle

(03:37):
of the day in the heat of thesun, tired as I am, running a
whole household.
Jesus says, Go and get yourhusband.
I kind of see her little hand onher hip.
Well, I don't have one.
Jesus said, You're right.
You don't have a husband for youhave had five husbands and you
aren't even married to the manyou're living with now.
This is where I think a lot ofpreachers Maybe get this wrong

(04:00):
she was.
Out there sinning floozy andJesus pointed it out and that
changed her Well, it's not beentoo many times that somebody's
pointed a finger at me andTalked about all the things i've
done wrong that changed me Andactually god's word says it's
his kindness that brings us torepentance let's just take a
look at the culture.

(04:20):
Why don't we?
back in that day, the women hadno power.
They were considered propertyand cattle, I don't know if they
were above the cattle or belowthe cattle, but they, they was
close to the cattle.
They couldn't divorce a man, buta man could divorce a woman for
not giving him kids, for allkinds of things, maybe for being

(04:40):
sassy.
I don't know.
Maybe she was a little combativeor argumentative.
I mean, she's definitely arguingwith Jesus here, but you know
what?
I don't think Jesus is offendedat all.
And he has a gift for her and hewants to give it to her.
He points out that she has beenlooked over and rejected pushed

(05:01):
aside and forgotten in hercommunity.
He recognizes that.
She responds, you must be aprophet.
Tell me, why is it that the Jewsinsist that Jerusalem is the
only place of worship?
While we Samaritans claim it ishere at Mount Gerizim where our
ancestors worshiped.
Isn't that funny?
She's heard these things and shereally wants to know the truth.
Jesus replied, believe me, dearwoman, the time is coming when

(05:24):
it will no longer matter whetheryou worship the father on this
mountain or that mountain.
The Samaritans know very littleabout the one that we worship
while the Jews, the salvation isfrom the Jews.
But the time has come and indeedit is now my sister.
When true worshipers and thefather is looking for those who

(05:45):
will worship him that For God isspirit, so those who worship him
must worship in spirit andtruth.
The woman said, Oh, I know theMessiah is coming.
The one who is called Christ, when he comes, he will explain
everything to us.
Cause they're waiting on himtoo.
Then Jesus said, I am he.
I am the Messiah that you'vebeen waiting for.
What?
He shared who he was to thiswoman, a Samaritan by herself at

(06:10):
the well.
They weren't even supposed to betalking.
And she knew it.
They didn't get educated, butJesus was giving her a lesson in
theology.
She was curious.
She was smart.
She wanted to know.
She was ready to hear.
And she got so excited.
She ran into town and toldeveryone about Jesus and what he

(06:32):
had said to her.
It says her testimony broughtthe town to Jesus.
She was the first evangelist.
She was preaching to everyone inthe town.
Now she won't just preach intothe women of the town.
Nope.
The whole town got saved.
I think that's just awesome Iwant to wrap this up With
telling one other little storybecause this one was kind of

(06:53):
funny okay, this is where jesusand the disciples are crossing
through another area of samariaand The samaritan people
wouldn't receive him in theirtown and james and john Were
they the sons of thunder?
They were sassy come on Well, you know what they said to Jesus
when, when the people wouldn'tlet him in the town, Lord, do

(07:15):
you want us to tell fire to comedown from heaven and consume
them?
can we get a lightning bolt overhere to consume?
These people in a fiery furnaceI mean, y'all, they were walking
with Jesus.
They were the first to betrained by the Jesus.
And yet, gosh, they're so human.
Just like us.

(07:36):
Burn them sons of bitches up.
How dare them not receive us?
But you know what Jesus turnedand rebuked them.
And, they went on their way.
I bet they felt stupid whenJesus turned and said, the whole
time we've been together you andI this is the best you got it

(07:56):
does kind of stand out That'sthe way the disciples handled
it.
And then the woman at the wellwho we know Had probably been
ostracized and not cared for inher community was somehow able
to reach out to them despite allthat and share about Jesus.
Isn't that cool?
The entire town was convertedthat's cool.

(08:18):
God just loves women.
So let me just wrap this up bysaying.
in love to everyone who stillthinks that women aren't called
to preach Stop spreading thatdumb dumb sauce on biscuits and
calling it gravy The word isclear from the old testament to
the new just listen To joel, tooI will pour out my spirit on all
flesh your sons and yourdaughters shall prophesy you

(08:40):
guys Get yourself some of thespirit Let the Lord pour it out
on you.
I know he speaks to me in justthese kind and generous ways and
can redirect me in the kindestway.
When, someone had treated mepoorly and shunned me.
I really wanted to call downfire to consume them, but
instead the Lord just gave me aword about my mission.

(09:03):
He told me that my words werepowerful, prophetic, and needed.
I put that as a reminder in myphone.
Isn't that great?
Because, you know, my delivery,y'all, my approach was not
smooth.
It was a lot like that Samaritanwoman, a bit sassy.
What do you mean you don't wantme to preach?
God uses and speaks to us inways that we can receive, but

(09:24):
also in just this gentle waythat makes you feel like, ah,
like you've taken a deep breath.
That's how God makes you feelwhen he talks to you.
So if you're hearing a bunch ofstuff that's accusatory or makes
you frightened or scared, thatis not Jesus.
That's somebody else.
Okay.
I love you.
Have a great day.
And I can't wait to get togetheragain on Preaching Girl.
