Speaker 1 (00:00):
You know, Rick Grigsby said in his book I'll quote him,
Hope is a quality of every human spirit that places
a transformative demand up on our heart to believe for
the absolute best outcome. And that's what got you know,
Abraham back in Romans four and eighteen. It says it says,
(00:21):
against all hope, Abraham believed God. I love that because hope,
I think, is on the inside of us and Priscilla.
It's always a choice to believe for the best outcome.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
We as believers are supposed to do that.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
We're never supposed to lose our hope, always knowing that
God is sovereign, he is the supreme being of all things,
working it all out for our good, all out for
his good pleasure, and making us more like Christ. Isn't
that the whole point of this, this whole thing it is.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
It is indeed the point, And I think that's part
of the I guess the struggle is reorienting our perspective
right so that our purpose becomes actually in alignment with
His purpose, you know. And as I think about that too,
I really wanted to ask doctor Anita a question.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
I appreciate her so much for.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
The practicality that she helps us with in this regard.
But I feel like, you know, having a sense of
hopefulness and not getting muddled down and overwhelming sadness when
the stuff of life kind of mounts in on us.
I feel like it's easier for some people than others,
because some people are wired toward optimism. They're wired towards
(01:37):
a hopeful disposition, and so I feel like it's easy
for someone who's all bubbly and normally looks at things
on the bright side and you know, the glass half
full and all that stuff. It's easier for someone like that,
But for somebody that is wired towards sadness or melancholy.
You know, what are the practical ways that we can
(01:59):
really make sure that we are have the perspective of
hopefulness on an ongoing basis, especially when.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Stuff is tough. I love that you brought that up,
because that's absolutely true. And we all tend to judge
other people based on the lens that is natural to us,
and then we grab a scripture and then use that
to say that our lens is right, and then somehow
now the person is in trouble emotionally and spiritually, and
as Christians we go so quick to the spirit and
we skip right over the pain that people are in.
(02:28):
But I want to ask people one not to do that,
and number two to tell those who are suffering, it's
okay for you to have your journey. Your journey is
yours with the Lord, and you are not in sin.
If you don't have hope today, hope will come again.
I believe that it's a form of hopefulness to say
one day I may feel hopeful again, but it's not today.
(02:48):
Today is not today. I'm gonna lay down in this room.
I'm gonna eat this popcorn, this ice cream, whether you're
salty or sweet. I'm gonna cry. I'm just I'm gonna cry.
You know, Sometimes I go away on what I call
a medication. I go away completely by myself. I take
no one, I don't have company, I cut off my
phone and I just lie around and inevitably, somewhere in
(03:08):
the first twenty four hours of the me caation, tears
will well up and stream down my face. And I
won't know why exactly, but because I've gotten away from
all the craziness and had a chance to get in
touch with my feelings. Sometimes the tears will just come,
and it's okay to lay and just cry let your
pain out.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
The more you try to stuff it down and the
more you try to rush past it, the more it's
coming back for you. Maya Angelo once said that every
cloud runs out of rain. You will not cry forever
if you start, But please start, because there are chemical
changes that happen in your body when you cry. God
built a relief valve into our eyeballs, and some of
(03:50):
us refuse to use what God placed in us to
let us reset when we are under pressure.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
But that is part of.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
Being fearfully and wonderfully made.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
Tear ducks are part of being fearfully in wonderfully made.
Don't reject what God put in us to help us
be better.
