In this powerful follow-up episode of Pulse & Politics, host Alana Sanders revisits the so-called Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act—a bill claiming to block non-citizens from voting, even though that’s already illegal and extremely rare. But this time, we dig deeper into how this bill targets and harms women voters across the country.

From name changes after marriage, to document access barriers for single mothers, rural grandmothers, and low-income women, Alana breaks down how the SAVE Act is more about suppressing votes than securing them.

This isn’t voter protection—it’s a quiet rollback of women’s rights at the ballot box.

Tune in to learn how to fight back, prepare, and protect your power.

turn it up. Loud voice is that matter, speaking truth

(00:42):
fact so clear, Elina Sanders keeps it real in here.
That's the post, that's the truth only on pulsing politics.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Welcome back to post and politics. Well, we don't just
skim headline. Is we dig deep into what it's really
going on behind the policies that shapes our lives. I'm
your host, Elena Sanders. Now, if you've been riding with me,

(01:13):
you remember we already talked about the Safe Act. That's
the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act. This bill claims to
air quotes protect our elections by blocking non citizens from
voting in federal races, even though Elena Sanders keeps it

(01:35):
real in here, Let's be real, that's already illegal and
rarely happens in our elections. Now. I already broke this
down how this law would make it harder for voters
in general, especially low income, elderly, rule and minority communities,

(01:55):
to cast their ballots. But today, but today, I want
to go a step father and focus on a group
that's often left out of these conversations. Women voters. That's right,
women voters. The real barrier documentation requirements. Let's start with

(02:16):
what the Safe Act actually requires. Now school is in session. Now,
this act requires proof of citizenship in the farms of
documents like a passport, birth certificate, or naturalization paperwork. Now
we talked about this before, but we're kind of just

(02:38):
going over. Let's just go over and review what it's about. Okay.
Now that sounds simple, right, It sounds very simple. Not
for everyone, and especially not for many women. Here's why.
Here's why I need you to listen. If you need
to get out your paper and pencil and break it down.
So when you do, it's time for you to talk

(02:58):
to your state representatives, your US congressmen, your senators, and
all those people that are out there voting. Not just
your representatives, others. Speak to the others as well. I
need you to let them know that name changes due
to marriages or divorce are common among women. That means
mismatches between birth certificates and current ideas, leading to extra paperwork,

(03:22):
delays or denials when registering to vote. Single mothers and
caretakers who already carry a heavy load may not have
a time our money to chase down legal documents from
out of state agencies. Are government officials. Meanwhile, many of

(03:45):
them are closed. Are the nearest one is one hundred
miles away. Okay, Now, my seniors, they are the population
that I am really really protective of. Our seniors. Elderly women,

(04:06):
especially those born in rural areas, are at home bursts
in the South that was common in southern states, may
not have formal birth certificates at all. I'm talking about
our grandmothers, women who raise families, pay taxes, live through
Jim Crow, and now could be turned away at the

(04:27):
polls because of a technicality. Let's not forget women of
color and immigrant women, even those born in the US
who are more likely to face bureaucratic hurdles and document
access issues due to systemic disparities, a policy that disrespects

(04:54):
women's lives. Now, this bill doesn't account for how women live,
how we move through this country, or how we constantly
adapting and adjusting our lives, support our families and communities,
name changes, birth certificate disparacies, housing instability, limited access to transportation, lore,

(05:17):
average income, and all of that plays into whether a
woman can even get to the documentation required by this law.
But say that punishes everyday life circumstances that are disproportionately
experienced by women. And yet they call this safe guarding democracy.

(05:43):
Air quotes gnosis. This is not safeguarding us. This is
shrinking democracy. Let me say no, bro, no, my brothers
and sisters, this is shrinking democracy. The broader impact here

(06:03):
solacing our voice. Let's be clear, women make up majority
of the voters in this country. Now we're getting to
the nitty gritty on why this bill was proposed, read,
and passed. Women make up the majority of voters in

(06:28):
this country. Black women are amongst the most reliable voting blocks,
consistently showing up, showing out, and changing outcomes. That's just
not me saying that because I'm a black woman. That's statistics.
Go research, go read it for yourselves. If this bill
creates barriers for any group, especially women, that's not a coincidence.

(06:53):
That's a strategy. Remember I'm always saying we need to strategize,
because theorters of this build and all these bad bills
that are out there have already had meetings before the
meetings and have strategized. HM. Suppressing women's votes is about
solacing women's power. Suppressing women's votes, It's about silencing women's powers,

(07:23):
our voices, our healthcare, children, reproductive rights, education, pay equity,
and social justice. This law may wear a red, white
and blue suit, but underneath, it's just another vote of
suppression tactic that hits women first hand and hardest. Now

(07:45):
you know, I'm always giving homework assignments. Now what can
we do? We know what time it is, so here's
what we can do. Spread the word, talk about the sect.
There is not enough people talking about this, especially with
the women in your lives or in your life. Many

(08:07):
don't even know this is coming. It's gonna hit hard.
Help each other prepare, check your documents, get your idy straight,
and start early. We have to organize like our vote
depends on it, because it does. Push back. Call all representatives,

(08:28):
not just yours. Let them know your watching, let them
know we won't allow them to build walls between women
and the ballot box. Vote vote despite the barriers, despite
the red tape, show up, because when women vote, everything changes.

(08:49):
I don't think you heard me, because when women vote,
everything changes. So everyone listening to the sound of my voice.
This is not just about voters laws, it's about voter lives.
It's about your life, your rights, your future. The Save
Act isn't about saving democracy, it's about shrinking it. In

(09:12):
its targeting the very people who keep this country moving forward,
and that's women. You've been listening to Pulse and Politics
and I'm your host, Elena Sanders. Stay woke, stay organized,

(09:33):
and always protect your power. Until next time, Let's keep
pulsing with purpose again. I'm Alena Sanders and this is
Pulse and Politics.
