Captain Pugwash, encouraged me to take on a radio show. It was just after the 2001 local elections. I hadn't a clue who to vote for. I realised that I wasn't alone. Only about half had voted, so I decided to find out more about what goes on here and try to tell others about it. That got me involved in all sorts of things and I now know a lot more about Whaingaroa and its politics. I hope you might join me, John Lawson as I find out more, or, better still, help by talking to Raglan and Whaingaroa on the show one day. One of the challenges I found on the radio was a pronouncing Te Reo Maori. I've a way to go, but I've much improved that thanks to the Wananga, but I still find all those dials and switches confusing! If you have news, views or would like to tell Whaingaroa about what you or your group or business are doing, please drop a note in to the radio station at the old Town Hall, or ring 825 0268 during the show.
After grumbling at the Long Term Plan hearing earlier this afternoon, I finally got a reply to my 11 April email. Council now say an investigation of a new bridge and tourist signage have been dropped from the LTP and also there is now no mention of that single lane bridge. They say the whole of a new roundabout at Te Hutewai/Wainui is funded by the developer and Waka Kotahi. Of the previous $1.3m of roading projects, ratepayers ar...
It's the time of year when District and Regional councils are asking for our views on their plans, so an interview with each and some details of what's in them, including the errors. In Raglan, for a bus every 4 hours, the rate will be $76.69 per property, the same as those with an hourly bus, such as Cambridge, or Huntly. Another anomaly is that Te Uku and Whatawhata, on the same Raglan bus route, will pay pay half, $38.35. Anothe...

A minor mystery this week. Both our councillor and mayor say traffic lights on the bridge are gone from the plans, yet this morning's council agenda said they were, "removed as part of the Enhanced Annual Plan", but, "with a note to reconsider this as part of the 2025-2034 LTP". There's also the mysteries of why the Community Board meeting was postponed from last week to tomorrow and why it has 'Raglan Recreation Plan' on its agend...
Not much news this week,, but interesting interviews from the Morning Show on dolphins and the new bulk bin shop, Raglan Refill.
The usual weather, events and news, followed by some 2009 interviews about local geology. For some updates from last year's book about Karioi as far as it relates to the coast around Wainui Reserve see -https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Unaol2Vuz4Gh2B8x69nCECECuugcEUAQDXnwV6De_xQ/edit?usp=sharing.
Lots of people are back at work this week, so a lot more news, including a report on the smells from an overloaded, overheated sewage works, possible contents of the Waikato District Long Term Plan, including closure of the airfield and of Papanui Point walkway and several other stories.
