La pizza existe desde hace varios siglos y tiene su origen en la ciudad de Nápoles, en Italia. La pizza ha cambiado mucho, especialmente con la introducción de los tomates. En el siglo XIX, la reina Margarita de Saboya visitó Nápoles. Para la ocasión, los italianos prepararon una pizza con los colores de la bandera italiana. Por eso, en una pizza Margherita tradicional hay tomates rojos, mozzarella blanca y albahaca verde. Hoy existe una asociación de pizzas napolitanas. Esta indica cómo es una pizza tradicional. Cada año, la asociación determina qué restaurante hace la mejor pizza.
