Redoctoring is a podcast for disillusioned and burnt out doctors aiming to expand and celebrate medicine beyond the traditional linear path. Many doctors feel trapped, isolated and burdened by the reality of medicine in South Africa-sacrificing their humanity for the title. This show solves that by normalizing the many routes available to clinicians. Guests will include a variety of people who specialised, pivoted or left the field. Unlike other shows of its kind, it aims to vulnerably share stories and provide resources so the listener can make informed career decisions.
I didn’t get the job — and honestly, I needed that.
In this season finale of Redoctoring, I reflect on my recent interview for a corporate medical role that didn’t go the way I hoped. But behind the “no” was a clear message: corporate medicine is a world of its own — with its own rules, language, expectations, and pace.
In this episode, I unpack what I learned, what I’ll do differently, and why this ‘failure’ might’ve been ...
We made it to double digits — Episode 10 is here!
Today, we’re diving into something that completely changed the game for me: networking.
I used to think networking was reserved for business people. But I’ve learned that, whether you’re deep in the books studenting or deep in the wards doctoring, networking is a vital weapon in your arsenal.
In this episode, I share my personal story and how one conversation can change eve...
The growing reality that even the most “essential” professionals in society are now unemployed. In this episode of Redoctoring, I’m saying the quiet part out loud: doctors have been entitled to job security for too long, and now that it’s gone, we don’t know how to respond — or how to communicate the crisis in a way that makes people care.
Let’s talk about how to reframe this moment. This episode is a wake-up call for the profes...
Failure.
The one thing we’re taught to fear in medicine — and the one thing we can’t escape.
From med school struggles to post-comserve uncertainty, this episode is a raw reflection on the moments that didn’t go as planned.
I open up about my own failures and how I’ve slowly started to see them as part of the doctoring journey, not the end of it.
If you’ve ever felt behind, broken, or misunderstood… this one’s for you.

Most of us were trained to do the job—save the life, finish the shift, survive the system. But what if we stopped to ask: is medicine just a job… or can it be a career designed around the life we actually want?
In this episode, I’m inviting you to take a step back and see your journey from above. Whether you’re a med student already questioning the path, or a tired doctor unsure of what’s next, this conversation is about shiftin...
Have you ever questioned if all the years of studying, sleepless calls, and emotional exhaustion were even worth it? You’re not alone. In this episode, we’re stepping away from the usual “just be grateful” rhetoric and instead focusing on the real skill set you’ve built — one that goes far beyond diagnoses and stethoscopes.
From resilience to leadership, emotional intelligence to crisis management — you’ve been training for more tha...
In this episode, we explore the silent identity crisis so many doctors face, especially during transitions, burnout, or time away from clinical work. I share personal stories from med school, ICU, and community service — plus research that links professional identity with burnout.
You’ll hear about:
Your heart races as you walk into the hospital. You cry while driving home. You wonder if you’re the only one who feels this way.
This episode is for the doctor who’s burnt out, disillusioned, and quietly asking: Is this it?
Redoctoring begins here—with honesty, softness, and rebellion. Let’s unlearn what medicine taught us about who we’re allowed to be. Let’s reimagine what life can look like.
Let’s redoctor—together.

You’re not broken. You’re reacting to a system that’s failing you.
In this episode, we unpack the brutal state of medicine in South Africa: doctor unemployment, salary cuts, toxic culture, and the rising trend of working for free.
This is the truth behind the burnout — and why you’re allowed to want more.
You were never meant to be a machine.

What if your path as a doctor doesn’t have to be a straight line?”
This episode unpacks the silent pressure to follow a rigid, linear journey through medicine — and what it means to step off that path. We explore the harm this one-size-fits-all script causes, share real-life examples of doctors who’ve pivoted at every stage, and redefine what success can look like.
I also share my personal journey post-comserve — navigating peace, pu...
