in personal and topicaldiscussions.
I'm your host and driver, johnFoddis, and we're cruising the
streets of Washington DC.
Buckle up, let's drive.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
So what's your story?
I used to live here and now Ilive in Philadelphia.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
You're just visiting.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
And I'm visiting here for a conference, all right.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
It's a good time and a place to be visiting DC.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Yeah, and not actually being here.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Yes, you know, like when you you know there's like
crazy shit going on in the world, right yeah, but deep down you
just feel there's people outthere that are doing the right
job to protect us.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
No one has that feeling anymore.
Yeah, that's the sentiment atleast.
Yeah, I would um, and so it'sjust there's a very odd energy
in the city, just a very, veryodd energy.
Yeah, um, anyways, um, what doyou do for fun up in uh,
philadelphia?

Speaker 2 (01:17):
um, like to read and I like that wait, wait, wait
that's the first thing out ofthe gate.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
is you like to read?
I have nothing against literacy, but come on.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Well, the main actual fun thing I honestly like to do
the most is just spending timewith my friends.
Okay, but that's just because Ilove my friends, yeah going out
just eating cocktails, whateverthe usual.
I prefer hosting and staying in.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
I like that.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
I like that we play a lot of Mario Party.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
What is that?

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Oh, it's basically a board game, but it's on a video
game.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Mario like the doink, doink, doink.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Yeah, you got it.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Okay, I'm down, it's fun, it's very fun.
I mean, I'm a Gen Xer man, Iget it.
Yeah, I'm the video gamegeneration.
Yeah, but how has it expandedbeyond what I remember?

Speaker 2 (02:08):
mario, being it's probably not much.
I mean there's just yeah, it'sawesome, there's like a little
bit of some new characters okayoh my god, I'm gonna, I'm gonna.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
I don't want to take offense to this.
Are you a dork?
Play mario video games withyour friends maybe that's
awesome.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
I love that I mean, I definitely prefer that than
like going out to a loud barwhere I can't hear them speak.
Personally, sometimes I do likethat, but yeah, I'm mostly I'm
56.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Right, I have less years in front of me than I do.
Oh, you don't know.
No, oh, I've.
It's been fun, trust me, I'vegotten enough in for four
lifetimes already.
But all those years I spentlike in bars, yeah, like talking
, yeah.
And you come home and yourvoice is like why is my voice
all the way?
Yeah, like I would so muchrather like you.

(02:55):
Well, not so much.
I mean.
Yeah, kicking it home now, butgive me a lounge, yeah, you know
, and a glass of bourbon, yeah, and lounge, yeah you know, and a
glass of bourbon, yeah, andmaybe some background music and
just talk, just bullshit.
I agree, just don't need the.
Yes, and everyone smells likeyeah, bo, and vending machine

(03:17):
cologne, yeah right, that kindof stuff I don't need that good
for you good for you.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Where do you live?

Speaker 1 (03:23):
now I live in the Maryland suburbs.
Okay, a place near Rockville.
Okay nice and yeah again.
I just I know DC intimately,yeah, but I don't come down here
a lot to know where theever-changing hot spots are.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
That's fair.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
And so.
But I have been learning byproxy, by just talking to people
like you and dropping peopleoff, and it's always nice to
kind of look at things with afresh lens, and you know doing
this as fun because it gets meout of my comfort zone and you
know, I grew up in maryland, soyeah, whereabouts uh near
glenburnie.
Oh sure, yeah, yeah, yeah, theuh one of my favorite crab cake

(04:06):
places up that way.
Uh g&m up by the airport.
I don't think I've been thereit's either g&m or timbuktu, the
two that always yeah, I don'tknow either of those, wow you're
missing out.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Yeah, I'm not kidding , I grew up hating seafood,
which was a sin, obviously, because of where we because
you're like yeah by thechesapeake, yeah, literally,
yeah, my brother used to jokethat I was adopted, which was
very funny might not be far offit's definitely not not far off
the uh.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
You know, it's one of those things where it's not the
greatest.
I mean, it's a fantastic crabcake, don't be wrong, but it's
the audacity factor that's likeas big as my hand Nice, yeah,
yeah, yeah.
And if you get the doubleplatter, like I'm a big dude, I
can barely finish it.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Nice, it's like insane.
Okay, yeah, then that's worthit then.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
It also costs probably, like God, probably
close to 80 bucks.
Okay, yeah now, but you shouldcheck it out.
It's like if you're ever flyingin and out of BWI for whatever
reason it's actually calledTimbuktu.
Timbuktu, and then the otherone is GNM.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
GNM, gnm, yep, yep.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
And GNM is cool because it has the main
restaurant.
It's kind of like a weird,quasi-industrial, not very fun
area Hammond's Ferry Road, Ithink it's what it's called, but
they have the regularrestaurant part and then but
they have this old school likelounge bar area and it's got
like exposed red brick and it'slike a funky cool bar and

(05:31):
there's some maybe like 20little small white tablecloths,
tabletops, and it's justgangster it's just awesome it's
really cool.
We don't have much, justawesome.
Yeah, it's really cool.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
We don't have much time left.
But besides, mario, what elseare you doing up in Philly?
Hitting the streets when theEagles win the Super Bowl,
burning my city down?
What?

Speaker 1 (05:56):
else would we do, seems reasonable, being Philly
and all.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
Hey, I got news for you the best cheesesteak is not
in Philadelphia.
I don't want to hear about it.
Where I just don't when it'sWhite House in Atlantic City.
Okay, you know what I'm talkingabout.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
No, I've never been to Atlantic City.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
Are you sure you're from Philadelphia?

Speaker 2 (06:11):
I'm not from there, I'm from Maryland.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
But you live there, I don't have a car.
Walk down the expressway as ifyou're going to Atlantic City.
Okay, and then in the oldneighborhood across from the
casinos, it's called White House.
It's been there since like1940-something, I'm not kidding,
it's amazing.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Well, now I have to go.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
You have to go.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Yeah, this is good to know.
See, I benefited.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
See, I benefited about my own local spot.
That's well, if you believe me,yeah, sure, lovely chatting
with you?
