Are you from DC?
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Well, no, I'm Italian
, but I've been living here for
a long time.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Very nice.
My part of my family is fromNaples.
Speaker 2 (01:01):

Oh you should.
It breaks my heart.
No, you should.
You always have time.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
And my father's
family was from Greece.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Oh, nice, nice mix.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
I know, and then my
wife is Egyptian.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Interesting.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
So our kids are
beautiful.
I love that.
I love that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So how long have you been herein DC?
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Oh, six years and a
half.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Oh, wow, okay yeah
it's been.
And where's your family from inItaly?
Speaker 2 (01:36):
Well, we're from the
north of Italy, so Verona, which
is between kind of like Milanand Venice.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Okay so like Verona,
which is between Milan and
Venice.
Okay so, not in the mountains, but up there Almost.
Yeah, Not like Cortina.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Not Cortina, yeah,
but closer than Naples.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Let's put it this way
Okay, yeah, even though I
haven't been, I find itfascinating how the food changes
by region.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
So much, so much.
Up north, less reds and more um, um, not uh, traditional pasta,
but gnocchi oh, yeah, okay, yeah, so many yeah more so in
the north than south right, butI feel like again, like you
(02:19):
drive two hours, you changeregion and the food is, I mean,
not completely different, butsubstantially different yeah,
that must be beautiful.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Yeah, I tried to plan
a trip uh like nine months ago.
For whatever reason, it didn'twork out it's okay.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
I mean just again,
there's always, always time yeah
and ithan is gonna stay thesame, so this person's.
I don't know where she'srunning oh my god, what is she
doing?
Speaker 1 (02:51):
I don't know, but she
was.
What is she?
Speaker 2 (02:52):
doing oh my god,
that's crazy, because I almost
moved to that building.
Oh, yeah, yeah, almost, andthen I, I, and then I picked
that one.
But you know, that would havebeen funny if she was my
neighbor but you know thatwouldn't be funny if she was my
neighbor.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
So you have lots of
family back home yeah.
Yeah, you go back often, superoften.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
That's good, that's
good, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
And what do you do
here for work?
Speaker 2 (03:15):
I'm in consulting, I
do international tax consulting
oh okay, yeah, so you Withnumbers.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
You're a numbers girl
?
Yeah, Definitely Me.
I'm not so good with numbers.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Me neither to be
honest, but you know I pay the
bills.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
so Just enough to
make a living right.
So just enough to make a livingright, just enough to make a
living okay, you know.
Back to the, to the italyconversation.
You know the one thing I foundit's like positano, amalfi, it's
beautiful, right, but it's it'sso crowded now, oh yeah, no, no
(03:54):
, like, it's almost like I, Ithink I'd rather go like in
December or November.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
Yeah, there's like
certain times, especially like
in August, July, in which itreally doesn't make sense to go,
because I mean it's notenjoyable so many people.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Like it's a carnage,
but at the same time, if you go
in June or in September, youhave a completely different
experience.
So yeah that's also, that'salso, that's also good.
But at the same time I meanitaly kind of, I mean the whole
european kind of like, shutsdown in um august so everybody's
on vacation, so prices are likereally really high.
(04:29):
Beaches are extremely crowdedand I mean it's not always like
a really enjoyable time.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
You said you had
dinner plans.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
Yeah, it's the
birthday of a friend of us.
Oh, that's nice yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
Like house party or
going out to eat.
No, no, it's a house they have, like a really nice house in
Capitol Hill and they love tohost them, so yeah, where do you
like going out around town?
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Here and there.
I mean I don't go crazy out,but I mean I like to try new
restaurants and I thinkespecially lately this has been
upgrading.
You know, georgetown is nicefor brunch yeah and I like 14th
street.
To a certain extent it dependsalso.
I mean, I live in mount vernon.
My vernon has like a ton too.
Don't to offer to be honest.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
The Union Market's an
interesting area.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Union Market, yeah,
is pretty new and they place
like a ton of new things inthere.
They're like really trying topush it.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
St Anselm looks nice,
and what's the other one, the
Mexican place El Presidente?
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Yeah, they just
opened one Italian, no, a French
one, but it's run by Italian.
Wait, it's.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
French, but it's run
by Italians.
Yeah super common.
There's a joke there somewhere.
Oh, I know there's a jokesomewhere.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
I know, I know, and
it's called Minetta Tavern and
it's really really good.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Yeah, I actually met
a young lady that works upstairs
.
Yeah, the upstairs is nice.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
In the cocktail yeah,
yeah, yeah, she was very sweet
yeah, it's kind of like, verylike new york ish a little bit
but I think for dc standardsit's really pretty.
You know, market, I mean, they're like really pushing it
like really, really hard.
I mean, if you remember, howwas it, like you know, a few
years ago, the, it was prettydifferent yeah, it was.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
Uh.
Have you spent much time in newyork?
A few, yeah, you know I getthat area almost has like a
smaller like meatpackingdistrict kind of vibe to it.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Yeah, yeah, 100%, you
know it's very edgy.
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
And it works.
It certainly works.
Just hearing your accent makesme want to go to Italy.
Oh, you should, I know.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
And plus, I have such
a funky accent.
I mean, I don't think I havelike a proper Italian accent.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
No, you do, Thank you
.
Your voice is very deep, thankyou.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
No, you should.
Yeah, I will Quality of life inItaly is really high.
Speaker 1 (06:47):

you're in the US for the bride.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
Yeah, I'm over it.
I think I can qualify for dualcitizenship with Greece and
Italy, but I have all myfather's paperwork.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
But I have nothing.
Greece is such a simple life.
Yeah, but good, simple life.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
But I have nothing
for Italy.
I'd have to probably go to thechurch and find a family name,
and that would probably be verylabor intensive to do that gosh.
If I lived in italy, oh my god,I'd probably weigh 500 pounds
um no, because I mean you, youwalk a lot.
Yeah, it's good, yeah, yeah.
(07:28):
Well, I'm re-inspired to govisit now, so I appreciate it.

conversation for sure.

nice direct flights right from
Dallas.
