E21: A Brother Below Pt. 2

The search for Monty continues as the Runts explore a classic dungeon! But with some... sexy twists~?

All right you guys welcome back to run pack goes playing walking

(00:04):
episode 21, let's get into it. Last time, we began as our
players awoke on their first full day in waterdeep, where
they set out toward the undermountain which is a
Dungeness area created from an abandoned mine.
Where adventurers go to test their mettle and earn coin, we

(00:25):
aren't going to test our mettle or earn coin because we both
have both those things and surplus Superfluous Superfluous
about oh instead we are going torescue hires brother Monte who
we've heard has disappeared intothe minds.
We walked around the under mountains, sort of Welcome area

(00:48):
above ground, there were different guilds, trying to sign
people on lots of different bonuses.
We split up and search for Cluesa little bit Aura.
Went to off to talk to on adventure a half orc named Napa
Ash. Basher who told us that if we
went a little deeper into the mountain we would find the real
shit and it was just tourists above ground.

(01:09):
Also told us that the whole first floor is civilized and
that, that is where the quest Master is, that's where you get
the real money. Meanwhile higher found a
rogue-like rat gilled, which we will come back to day.
Most in Malibus had a very deep talk about malice, betraying the
crew and Of Davos recognized oneof the guys at Halo oath, which

(01:36):
was one of the guilds as having done zapp's red ritual, which
resulted in a very loud, very public argument between the two
back to hires at Guild higher soon realized that this is
likely the type of Guild, his roguish brother Monte would have
joined. Um, so ultimately we decided to

(01:56):
join so we could see their Guildlogs and figure out if Monty had
been a member, this is turned out to be the case lookie.
We learned that Monty might havetaken any of several quests
including recovering, a stolen cake of Ale from a siren.
Capturing some feral mimics, or recovering Jora.

(02:16):
The Lost Apprentice. We also sort of got an idea of
where he might be on a mountain there.
Who else got an idea of where hemight be on a map, that the
guild had of the dungeon and so set out.
In the underground. First, we passed through the
first huge Cavern. That's where we met back up with

(02:37):
Samir who had been waiting for awhile because what ever, um, on
the second level, the first truelevel of the dungeon, we are
attacked by some thieves who putus to sleep in quicksand Davis
obliterated. Oh, do love and valleys at a
very sweet heart-to-heart about finding their real home.

(02:57):
And we learned the bandits had killed two young men on a, who
had a diary that very sadly readby adventures and was blank?
Except the first page that said like I went into the dungeon
with my best friend made all of a gum, very emotional higher.
Gave him the Ring of calm emotions and ultimately our, our

(03:20):
do live in the lost and found decided to recover.
The bodies and bring them in thebag of holding up to the surface
where they will, hopefully be resurrected by their guilds.
Know, I will pay to redirect them my damn self because the
saddest Saddest thing that's ever happened on the third level
shit started getting real. A bearded giant walked out in

(03:43):
front of a slowly with a giant dead Staggs slung up, over its
shoulders. But luckily, we avoided its
eyesight. We also asked a strange Feast of
food, we can't touch. And just as we had entered, the
fourth level, there was a safe area with tent setup, we set up
Mega tent, and severe set up hisown tent because he can't

fucking stand to be around us and we settled down for the
night and he's been my God, you guys did make Megaton.
Welcome back. Everyone to the Run pack does
D&D today. We're going dungeon crawling,
baby. So you all of just settled down

(04:27):
for an evening's rest, a long rest.
And fact in the very first room of the first, well, I guess the
first rest that you guys are gonna have in this great under
Mountain dungeon explain to you all as one of the largest in all
of faer. This dungeon is been sprawling
so far and it's taking you abouta day, just to Traverse two

(04:50):
floors, and those two. Floors were both fairly occupied
as well, by adventurers. And the like it's been Mostly
seeing humans so far, you have yet to encounter any creatures
or traps that look to harm you. Everything so far has been
pretty well traveled but on the fourth floor now you get to see

(05:11):
that guy that's true but now on the fourth floor, you all are
running into sparser and sparserbits of human connection here.
Only a sparse. Few tents are set up in this
simple. Common room that look to be more
heartened adventurers. You've been see one tenth
similar to your own. That seems to be sort of a mega
tint where you see Shadows behind the canvas.

(05:33):
Tent walls would look to be several people moving around
inside and a few douse fires from where people were setting
up their campfires as over her face she's explained you all
settled down for the evening now, like eating some cold
rations to save yourself over for dinner.
And Samir has said himself up next to you guys in a small
single person tent. So um I assumed it being sort of

(05:57):
a dangerous space. You guys want to do watches.
So who wants to take the first watch of the night?
Me me. All right.
Hire. You should we do too personal
watches. I know what?
I'll go with higher and not right buddy.
Let's do it. Now, I guess I get the p and the
yippee sort of fizzled out therebuddy.

All right. Yeah, me and higher will go
first. He got this in the bag.
Yeah, it'll be real. Good.

And who wants to take the secondwatch?
I can take the second. I don't sweat.
The waking up and back to sleep.And who's gonna go with you or

oh, I guess, no one. I mean, on both watches.
Should we go wake up? Some are he's in the other tent.
I don't know if he can hear us. I know he can.
I mean, we can. Beer in the morning.
I'm good. It's modeling to do them.

There are three watches. Oh God.
Wait. Do you usually do two or three?
Um, I think standard D&D is 3 but we've actually been doing
two recently. I prefer to watch this just
because it keeps things a littlesnappier.
Okay. Good watch.
You guys are gonna do. All right, I guess higher.

You want to head out with me therest?
He started out. You know.
Yeah. You can arrest easy because.
Yeah, you know, you got some strong men on the, on the, on
the watch. She smacks on the back tire.

settle down for the evening. Begin turning out your lanterns
and malagos joins you outside ofthe tent higher.
You look around you. Notice none of the other tents
on this. Fourth floor Landing have
anybody out to watch. They all have all their lanterns
turned down. To Darkness and there.
Definitely look to be occupied. These don't look like a banded
tent, especially the large one sort of caddy corner from you

all, but nevertheless, they're all seem to be well rested and
not keeping somebody out like you guys are, but Malik gets
lights, a very small Lantern andlowers the the cover to make it
a dim light around the two of you while you sort of lean up
against the tent on the outside.So listen higher.
I've been meaning to ask you, you know, now that's just a two

of us. What's, what's your brother
gonna be like? This Monty character?
You know, you've told us, she wanted to see him for a while
and to be honest, I've been seeing you scribbling in that
journal of yours basically all day.
And I'm just curious, like, are you like missing him?
Who are you right into all the time. you know, I I have to keep

a journal and write letters justto satisfy that like contract
thing I have with red haggis, right?
Yeah, red hands. But then, I just kind of started
doing it and every day and it felt helpful to me.
Um, but yeah, um, I don't know, Monty's, kind of like, I don't

know. At least he was a kind of, like,
bro type. I almost want to say just real
friendly. Um, but, you know, I feel like
it's been a while. It's been a while, maybe even
more for him, and I feel like I different out here, so maybe he

in ether, you know, he kind of helped people get in and out of

at the time he was needed more back home, huh?

If you've ever stepped foot in ether, I feel like you would
know you would you would feel her and no like her power and I
you know, I don't like where things are now.

thinking and the rest of your watch sort of goes on awkwardly
silent. As he turns back to look to you
every once in a while and go higher.

really hopeful, you know, it sounds amazing, but I just, I've
seen people really get screwed up by that level of hope, you

know, we don't actually know howold you are maybe.

face and then he looks back and he doesn't say anything.
He just watches out with you andas you guys watch your watch
goes by pretty much undeterred with the 19%.
You pretty much catch everythingthat seems to be happening
around here some Small events that occur at some point you
notice walking out of the Megaton in the other Mega tent
caddy corner from you, all a very what looks to be like human

(16:20):
man. Steps out at some point trying
to tiptoe as best he can off about five, ten feet away and
pisses in a corner. Um, he looks like he might
notice you and Malaga gets out especially because you have this
low light Lantern out with you but he doesn't wave or even look
towards your direction for a head nod.
He simply just moves back after pissing and crawls back into his

(16:43):
tent fairly silently. Understandable not making
friends down here. He didn't look toward you guys
at all. He was wearing like, the
standard traveling clothes that you might Under Armour.
This more specifically like a very frilly shirt and pants that
would fit well in some plate. Armor, you probably wear

(17:05):
something similar higher considering your plate armor.
He's so thrilling while I'm allergist and I are talking, I
probably give like maybe not like panic, but like awkward and
nervous like glances to do them every time.
Like it's says like, yeah, whatever just fuck me.

(17:28):
Into the camera. Like the office you writing all
this down. The only other thing you guys
notice on your specific watch isa sound often the distance
rumbling down the distant Cavernas sort of mentioned before.
There's no actual doorway like specifically, there are no doors

(17:48):
that separate you from the rest of the dungeon rather.
There's just sort of a t-shaped hallway that this floor, or
rather this Landing of the staircase leads out to you hear
things down there. But once while, you haven't seen
anything move across the intersection, but it does seem
like there, is a fairly loud sound that Echoes out.

(18:12):
Distantly from down, down, deeper into the dungeon.
It sounds like a clang metal on metal loud.
And Echoing pure almost for a moment it he reaches your ears.
You and Malik is both turn in that direction.
Silence for a few moments afterward and then nothing seems
to happen. I don't even want to know what

(18:33):
the hell is made out of metal inhere.
There's probably just some fucking idiots fighting down
there, right, though. Damn, if it's this late at night
and their fight and that must suck dick, I bet it does suck
dick. I mean, I don't know if people
really care about daytime and nighttime down here, I don't
know. Maybe I didn't even think about
that. When should we wake everyone up?

(18:54):
You know, like, it's sort of hard to tell when time has
happened. I mean, we could wake Doom up
and then do them. Could tell us how much time has
passed. I mean, we can just give like a
general like time frame. What's a long rest, eight hours?
So maybe after like four weeks everyone.

Yeah, that sounds good. Doesn't have to be his act.
And after this time, then you guys feel like four hours of
successfully passed and Malik issort of nudges, you and goes.

Okay, good night. Hi guys.
Okay, right now, the most and Aura you guys step out for a
moment. You are greeted with sort of the
same site that higher. So early just sort of a quiet
little Landing from the staircase.
Three other tents are here. One of them is huge and they are
all dead silent and dark. There's a small hooded lantern

that you have sort of sat up next to some like, you know, you
can, you basically can sit yourself up against the tent or
sit on like a piece of wood, canyou see in the dark day?
Most, Fairly well. Doesn't seem wise to draw
attention to ourselves. Sure.

You guys turn it out and now it is Pitch.
Black. Nothing seems to change though.

(21:50):
And you guys get still a pretty good view of this.
Landing the staircase and the intersection leading into the
fourth floor, dungeon Beyond, it's fairly quiet.
Now, the sounds of both hustle and bustle of the sort of shops
that were above as well. It's just sort of like the
distant sound of life on the surface has drawn to a complete
silence now, and it's wet and cold down here.

(22:13):
So demos. Yeah, how are you doing?
You know what's going on and tables world?
Things are going pretty good. I think, you know, it's it's
nice to be in in waterdeep seeing new places.
Definitely excited about the, the magic Academy for sure.
Oh really, that's something you're interested in.

I mean, I mean yeah you know I feel like I feel like magic is
like the lifeblood of like of like all living things, you
know? Why is that funny so fast our
life? Blood.
And it's totally spit while we don't need to get into it.

It feels like every time I use my magic, it feels like someone
is taking mental damage from it inadvertently and I feel like

on my mind a bit. This this whole thing seems kind

Um you think that you guys have changed scenery pretty
drastically here in the last just day or so traveling from
circad to waterdeep, has been a pretty immense goal and by doing
so a lot has changed. And for, you know, someone who

spends a lot of their time, sortof just like by themselves, you
think this big kind of move would likely frazzle him.
Which therefore might lead to some slight personality.
Like, you know, maybe a bit moreguarded, maybe a bit more
personal with certain things, but you don't think anything
like dangerously strange has happened insightfully.

(25:29):
I don't ya, but in the well, thereasonable expectations of how
much is happened, right? Yeah.
So it's there's just there's definitely been a lot of change
for him, that's for sure. And I don't know, kind of feels
like taking a cat outside of thehouse for the first time.
Ha okay I see I guess I just feel badly that I don't know.

That's this happened to him honestly as as a strange as a
situation. I think he finds himself and I
also believe he finds quite a bit of Joy with with the new
groupies found with all of us. I think it's possible.

He's wanted to be an adventure for some time.
Really. where the conversation the other night that apparently,
in the city of brass, he was a member of an adventuring party
that Unfortunately sort of ditched him and he'd never tried
since then. But I don't know though because

then he goes and sleeps in his own tent.
I I worry that he's trying very hard not to get to attached but
I think that to me seems a little silly because while some
of us might come and goal I think a year going to be with
him for a very long time I wouldguess.
And the rest of us, the rest of you all might stay a while.

Yes. I mean I should hope so.
I mean, I will say when you knowthe first time, you all came
into the shop. He he did try to pawn me off to
you guys. So, so I wonder if I don't know
if he has sort of this like And I try to say this like very
quietly just in case some years ago, just like so like

self-sabotaging sort of, you know, like view of it now, you
know, exactly. I think he thinks it's past his
time. So he wanted you to go, like,
lift the tree, but now he's sortof in it but he, I don't know.

It feels like there's a lack of trust in the situation.

I mean. It the copper Golem, it seems
like meant Iceland were pretty serious for her to just up and
leave, you know, permanently maybe.
Yeah. I, you know, Iceland sort of
seems like, sort of a manipulative person, you know,

like Samir definitely could havefallen prey to that sort of
behavior. I just don't understand, I mean
she and given him the Golem yet,right?
So why bother? I don't know.
I it makes me think maybe she did mean to come back to him,
but I don't know if that'll be areassurance to him now.

Since he's pretty unhappy with her in general, right?
It's it's just so tough to piecetogether since we know.
So, little about Iceland and what her motives are.

the evening. It's a it's a lengthy
conversation. You guys have here and during
your watch yet again not a wholelot happens at some point.
You see one of the what looks tobe more solitary tense has a
small Lantern flicked on inside.In the middle of the night, it
lightens up the room quite brightly and both of you are

(29:55):
immediately drawn to it. And you see the outline of a
shadow of a large hairy figure inside.
You're not sure what exactly butthey look humanoid, getting up
shuffling around. You hear a loud as something
snaps loudly? It sounds sort of wet and
visceral but you don't hear any other sounds.
And after I had a little bit more shuffling from this large

(30:18):
hairy figure, the lantern goes out and it gets quiet once more.
He didn't leave the tent, he just swished around inside.
You only saw the Silhouette against the, the canvas of the
tent. To remember which floor was
infected with mimics. Oh God, wasn't it.

(30:38):
The fourth floor. Or was the fourth floor.
Oh, I'm just racking my brain just racking it.
Oh no, it's the 5th floor, it was the fifth floor, okay?
Okay, but okay good. Oh that's that's unnerving.
Good thing we're not sleeping there.

(30:59):
Very true. At least I hope we're not.
Oh yeah. If you guys recall you did hear
that. There were a lot of mimics freed
on the 5th floor. Yes.
I used to have all the quest pages, right?
That you printed out Quest Pagesprinted out like the sorry you
had the like, you, you physically took the parchment
pages that explained what all the quests were?

Yeah. Doom did.
Okay, just making sure. Just making sure it's
interesting. All right.
So, um, the only other thing that occurs during your watch
and this is a bit later into thenight.
This is when you guys are already starting to get a little
tired from just being out for solong.

(31:42):
A little Restless, you're ready to sort of get up and start the
day? Now, there is a sort of
shuffling sound from nearby sortof near in the dungeon.
You see nothing happened in the hallway, the small tea
intersection nearby. But after a few moments, the two
of you both noticed and with a 19%, it's pretty easily to tell

(32:04):
what this is and you recognize it some sort of shrub that seems
to plop by the hallway. Walking from one end to the
other, not bothering to enter this room at all.
You recognize this as an awakened shrub.
A piece of plant life that has been basically brought to life
by some means and is now moving about on rooted feet.

(32:26):
Seems like the sort of shit, theapprentices of course Wizards
do. Yes.
Oh, that's that's so strange. It's like You know, I don't
know, it's it's little like spindly routine feet to kind of
strange to me. It is very unusual.

(32:48):
But that is the end of your watch.
You guys feel like it's about time for everyone to wake up.
I was gonna go take his. Use dead asleep.
You can tell the way you sort ofposition.

(33:09):
He's got his like pillow shoved.Halfway up his nose.
It looks like you really was rolling around nice and comfy
like that's swift. Kick in the stomach.
Whoops. You whack a martini curls in on

He starts shouting now and the rest of you guys to start
stirring away. Oh fuck.

Oh, I've been beat. Oh, somebody, someone wake up.

I want to open the door of samira's tent.

So I'm feeling a hand from the other side like sort of stop you

houses with empty holes, where water once been you even find a

of hear it and see glimpses of it, through pinholes and the

snaps open and closed. Looking to bite in the direction
of wherever the Fireballs rang out for it, jumps toward the

And after bumping into a couple more chests, you see them also
begin to expand out. And then chaos like a chain

burst from beneath their wooden disguise as others tongues

other. Hundreds of mimics are springing
into a frenzy to Riot in here. Bouncing off the walls, crashing
into each other toppling over one another, in Tangled, masses
of gnashing teeth and flailing suitable, pods.
You see some cling to the ceiling, others role in tumble,
like rabbit animals biting one. Another clamping down on

anything nearby. The noise is horrendous,
slapping tongues, and snatching teeth clicks and bashing of wood
up against things, the sound of like hundreds of bodies slamming
into each other. It is near deafening on your
site. Even behind the debris wall and
you think it likely Echoes out into the dungeon for likely

miles of tunnels, the way that Echoes it is loud.
The air is all of a sudden thickwith the wet hungry, screeches
of all these things going crazy,the debris wall, even in front
of you. Shudders everyone, once in a
while demos and dual impressed up against that, you're able to

And you notice none of the mimics seem to have the strength
alone to actually destroy and push in the wall but it does

bit. They are going nuts from the
outside. It is horrendous specifically
