Speaker 1 (00:01):
Cheers.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Kristin Balboni and Sharon Thorst loved it with your Sideline Pass.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
Welcome to Sideline Pass with your Sideline reporters, Kristin and Sharon. Sharon, Wow,
we got to start with this game with the Bucks.
Speaker 4 (00:18):
Oh, such a heartbreaker. We were both there for that one.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
What are your first impressions of that game when you
think back.
Speaker 5 (00:25):
To it, You know, it was such an exciting game
number one. I mean it was just so back and forth,
and you know, one team would answer, then the other
team would answer, and then you thought, oh no, we
got this in the bag. And then it's like, oh no,
they're gonna go down and field, go and go to overtime.
So it was just such an up and down, back
and forth game that was so much fun to watch.
And you know, that's that's something that we haven't always
(00:46):
seen around here in the recent years. We haven't had
a whole lot of fun games like that. The Chiefs
game obviously was really exciting. Then to have two games
right in a row like that, but also to have
just two heartbreaking, backbreaking losses like that right in a row,
it's like, oh, but it's just so fun to see
the progress this team is making and to be in
those kind of games again, it's just awesome.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
I agree, And you know, results aside as you said,
the energy at Bank of America Stadium has been great.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
I've been lucky enough to be on the sidelines.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
For the last two weeks and especially as that sunset, Sharon,
I mean, so at the fourth quarter, you know, they
pull out fans. If you've been to the games, you
know they bring out they keep pounding drum. They had
Rod Smart aka he hate Me out there counting the drum,
but it and then all the lights went with the drum.
You know, when he pounds on the drum, all the
(01:35):
lights throughout the stadium circled.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
It was just so neat.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
So you know, it's been a while since I've done
a night game, and just the whole thing was so cool.
There was a guy, Sharon, sitting at the fifty and
he is wearing at least I assume it's a guy.
I could have been a girl wearing a horse head
and a shirt that said Dolla Bill, which is viavier legets, yes,
horse's name when he does the celebration. There were just
so many cool things there that night, and as you said,
(02:01):
it's exciting. This fan base is excited, and results aside.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
It's been two very.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
It's been too very kind of hold your breath games,
and they're fun.
Speaker 5 (02:14):
To watch, absolutely absolutely, and it just shows once again
how far this team has come.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
The progress are making you.
Speaker 5 (02:20):
They're getting guys back on both sides of the ball
that have been injured and that's helping tremendously.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
I know the defense.
Speaker 5 (02:25):
Maybe the numbers aren't showing it, but they're starting to
really play more together. They're starting to jail more, they're
getting that chemistry down and as each week each practice
goes by, I think you're going to see continued improven
for them and those numbers will start to go along
with it.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
So it's been a process.
Speaker 5 (02:40):
Dave Canalis said it was going to be a process,
but guys have bought in and they're starting to see
the fruits of their labor more now, and I think
that's just going to continue to get better week by week.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Yeah, and you talk about guys getting healthy DJ one,
and we're going to be talking to him just a
little bit later.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
He is certainly a huge part of that.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
Speaking of guys getting healthy, sharing it was fun to
see Jonathan Brooks out there.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 5 (03:00):
And he was so different to me from Game one
to Game two. He came back at Mars and the
Chiefs game, I only had like what I think two
plays or something. He looked a little tentative maybe, and
I think it was his first time a game back
coming off that ACL, which is such a as we've
said before, the mental thing too. It's not just the
physical and this coming back from the knee injury, it's
the mental thing, because do you trust that knee again?
(03:21):
Are you scared just gonna happen again? Especially when it
was a non contact injury like his wife. So in
this game, I thought he just ran with so much
more confidence, and he looked like he just felt like
he belonged out there, and he felt sure of himself,
and he was just doing all the right things. And
I was actually sort of surprised when I looked at
the end with the stats and he only had eighteen
rushing yards, because I'm like, oh my gosh, I thought
he would have had like fifty because it just seemed
(03:42):
like he was constantly touching the football and.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
He had that catch out of the backfield too, you know.
So we got to see him in a couple of
different situations. We got to seehim in Cuba in there
in the two back set for at least a play.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
I'm hoping to see more of that. Absolutely, Yeah, it
wants to take. Yeah, any advice from me, I would
like to see that.
Speaker 5 (04:01):
There we go, There we go. Yeah, I know that
Cuba I think would be lobbying for that too. And
that's what brat Itzac said that a long time ago,
before before Jonathan went was even ready to come back.
He said, when he gets back, you know, we're playing
him in both positions. We're teaching him everything out there
from the running game, so we can try to get
those at least two back sets out there, and you like,
plug and play with him. So I think that maybe
(04:22):
every week, I think that we're going to start seeing
maybe a little bit more Jonathan Brook's out there and
see what he can do, especially in tandem with Chuba,
which is fun to watch.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
Yeah, And that's what Dave Can also told me.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
He said, he said, we want him to feel confident,
as you said, you know, after that injury and then
all socialists what he can do in those touches that
he gets. Because of course Cuba is the featured back,
and so the more he does with those opportunities, the
more we're going to see him. And Sharon, I think
he certainly made the most of those opportunities last week,
so therefore it would follow that we are going to
see him more.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
He's just such a such.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
A talent, and so you can never have too many
great running backs, that's for sure. But speaking of of Cuba, right,
I want to talk about some of the heartbreakers from
Cuba and from Eddie Paniro. We talked about this on
last week's postgame show right after the game was over,
and you just feel for Cuba Hubbard and for Eddie Panio,
(05:16):
two guys that don't make mistakes. Frankly, like they do
not make mistakes. Eddie Paniro, you know we've been saying
it was the most accurate kicker in NFL history a
couple of weeks ago.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
Cuba does not turn the ball over.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
He had the one in Germany, I believe, and it
was like he almost got hurt on the play. That's
why he lost the ball, because somebody rolled up on him,
if memory serves, And I asked Dave Canal was about
this yesterday and I said, you know, what do you
tell those guys, because you know, you could tell those
are two guys that because they are so good and conscientious,
they are such pros that they take those things, they
(05:52):
take responsibility for those things.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
And he said, look, I just remind them who they are.
You know, we know that this happened and it's not
going to have and again.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Because look at the players you are overall, these few plays.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
Do not define you.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
And I thought that was such a great way to
put it, because as we know, and like I said,
no one is going to be harder on those two
guys than they are on themselves. And of course there
were many different things. Those were not the defining moments
at all in the game. There were plenty of other
places that the Panthers could clean up or things just
didn't go their way, like the Adam Thielen non touchdown touchdown.
Speaker 4 (06:28):
Yes, but that you just feel for those two guys.
Speaker 5 (06:32):
Oh absolutely, And like you said, nobody hates it worse
than they do because that's just not what they do.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
And so when they do have a mistake like that, it's.
Speaker 5 (06:41):
Just so so disappointing for them, and they're just so
disappointed in themselves, and they blame themselves, and like you said,
they shouldn't because that's not those weren't the game changers.
I mean, you can point it in certainly one thing
that added to it, but you can't lump everything on them.
And I know that too. But we've talked about it
so many times. How often he's out there doing you know,
(07:02):
the jugs drill and things like that, and he does
the ball position drilled where they, you know, come up
and try to hammer at him, and you know he
has Tommy Trumble out there trying to get the ball
away from him and when he's catching it on the jug.
So he works so hard at his craft, and he
works so hard to be perfect at what he does,
so it just makes it that much more painful when
you're not. So but he'll he'll bounce back from it.
(07:22):
And he was saying that after the game. You know,
it's like he's got to move on. It happened, Just
time to put it in the past, get better from it,
and not make that same mistake twice. And you know,
next time he's out there on Sunday running with that football,
he's going to double down on making sure that it's secure.
Speaker 4 (07:37):
Yeah, absolutely, he is such a great running back.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
So I want to I do want to flip the
page as well, because you know, the results are in
the past. But I do think from a sideline perspective,
we should talk about that, that Adam feeling no touchdown
because because I think it's interesting to explain and maybe
people know this, maybe people don't, but but how that works.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
Right.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
So I was standing on that, like right on the
sideline in the end zone and watching the catch. Certainly
it looked like a touchdown to me. You know what
was interesting is when they showed the replay, the entire
offensive staff. You know, Dave Cols is normally very composed,
very very you know, keeps his emotions under lock and
(08:20):
key while he's out there. But they watched the replay
after the ref had called it no touchdown and on
the big board, and then he was signaling touchdown and
the entire rest of the staff was signaling touchdown. So
they thought, Okay, it's going to be overturned. It's an
automatic review or it's a booth review, it's going to
be overturned.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
And we have got this touchdown.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
Now what happens there is that you know, they only
look at the angles from New York.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
They're not supposed to look at the big boards the refs.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
You know, They're supposed to look at the angles available
to them, and I think a lot of fans know that.
And then what the explanation was after is that there
was not a good angle from the end zone to
in order to show the possession like that he had
the ball with total possession, and so therefore they could
(09:12):
not overturn the call. And that is why they say
the call stands. So there are three different options that
they could say the call stands, the calls reversed, or
the call is confirmed. And this one was the call stands,
which means we don't have enough video evidence to overturn it,
which I think a lot of fans know. So therefore,
if it was called a touchdown, it most likely would
have stayed a touchdown. But Sharon, I do think the
(09:34):
interesting point is that sometimes on these afternoon games, they don't.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
Bring as many cameras you have.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
You have seven to eight cameras that Fox or CBS
brings for these afternoon games, and they're positioned in different
parts of the stadium, and sometimes they don't have all
the angles whereas if you watch, if fans are watching
let's say a Sunday night football game or a Monday
night football game, and not always right, but you will
see the pylon cameras. You will see all these close
(10:00):
angle cameras because those are a little bit bigger production.
Those are coming from networks that only have one game
to produce on like Fox and CBS are producing seven,
eight games all across the country. So I just think
that's really interesting for people to know beyond just this game,
but also for games going forward about why you know,
we're watching it, you're watching it at home, we're watching
(10:21):
it on the big board, and we say, no, we
think this is a slam dunk here, and sometimes it's
not when they use the information available to them.
Speaker 5 (10:29):
Yeah, and that's what it is crazy, because, like you
were saying, they don't have the same amount of cameras
the same angles for every game, which which seems sort
of odd, you'd think, especially because it does impact an
outcome of a game that clearly would have changed probably
changed the outcome of this game. It seems like the
NFL would have a certain standard of Okay, we have
this many cameras and they're in this many places and
(10:49):
we have this different these different angles, so we can
be sure to be able to get everything. It is like,
clearly you know that the field goal, the staunching or
whatever you call that thing that it stands on, you know,
you would know that that's going to be in the
way sometimes of a shot, so okay, let's make sure
we have it coming from the other direction, that kind
of thing. So it it is interesting how you don't
(11:11):
have a standard across the league for every single game
with a minimum number of camera angles and cameras, particularly
to check things like that in scoring range. So yeah,
that's I know that we were all like flabbergasts. It's
like ohm, like gosh, are you kidding me? You know,
because I've seen now pictures from photographers that were there,
Like there was one trending on Twitter today actually that
I saw this just beautiful shot of Adam from the
(11:32):
other side of the end zone that clearly shows that
it's just a gorgeous catch, and that's been all over Twitter,
interrex or whatever it's called. And you know it's if
they'd had that angle, it certainly would have changed changed
the outcome there. So maybe maybe at some point they'll
start paying attention to that and make it make a
change there.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
But yeah, it is.
Speaker 5 (11:49):
It's it's frustrating, and I'm sure Adam more than anybody else,
is like, oh my gosh, that was a catch.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
I know it was. So it was tough that they
ruled it the opposite.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
Yeah, and you know everyone knows this, but rest don't
want to be wrong, you know, they don't. They don't
want to have that, you know, have to explain why
they're like what they're thinking was afterwards, or for everyone
to be able to see something and them not be
able to you know.
Speaker 4 (12:12):
So that is just tough all around.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
And as you said, certainly tough on the Panthers and
on Adam Thielen is what a game he had. So
I do want to talk to you about one more
thing before we move on to the Eagles, and that
was the fact that I saw you before the game
and you had someone special with you.
Speaker 5 (12:31):
Yeah, I had My daughter, Sina was with me. She
was trailing me to see what mom does. It had
been a long time since she'd been wandering down on
the sidelines with me.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
How cool is that?
Speaker 5 (12:41):
Yeah, yeah, so it was a lot of fun. So
she trailed me around and in the pregame and during
the game, and sat in the booth and sat in
with this on the postgame show and was pretty amazed
at how much work goes into putting together an NFL
football game. From it from the radio standpoint, I mean
to see how many people it takes to put it together,
either how many different roles or how many different things
(13:01):
you have to do, and how it all works.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
And comes together.
Speaker 5 (13:04):
So she saw it from a totally different vantage point
than what she normally does, which it just as you know,
as a fan in the stands or or a hub
watching it on TV.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
So so it was pretty cool.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
That just has to be such a neat thing as
a mom.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
You know, my son, we are going to get tickets
to the final home game of the season and that
will be He's about to turn three next week and
that will be his first game, and I'm just so excited.
Speaker 4 (13:27):
We have this little we have this little book called
It's called.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Night Night in North Carolina and it has the Panther
Stadium in it, and so we always say, like, that's
where your mom goes to work. And but I don't
think he has quite any idea of it, you know,
we watch football on TV. But I'm so thrilled to
get to see him there and to take him and
to see, you know, for him to see what I do.
That's a you know, we wanted to make sure it
was at a time where he can kind of understand
(13:52):
it a little bit.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
But I just imagine as.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
A mom getting to take you know, your daughter who
is much older than my son, right and.
Speaker 4 (14:00):
And just to be like, hey, how cool is this?
Speaker 3 (14:02):
This is what I do, you know, every weekday and
every weekend, you know. And also, like you said, there's
so much more that goes into it than people think sometimes.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
So I just thought that was like such a cool
mom moment.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
Yeah, it was a lot of fun. She really enjoyed it,
and so did I. It was great.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
Okay, well it is time to get to our scouting report. Sharon.
Speaker 3 (14:19):
You always amaze me with these numbers. So when we
look at the Eagles, what are we looking at?
Speaker 5 (14:23):
Oh boy, well, I think everybody unless you've been under
a rock somewhere, notice that they run the football and
they have gotten right now, the best running back in
the league this season, at least, in Saquon Barkley. He
is number one in the league in rushing yards, and
he has just been amazing.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
He had that.
Speaker 5 (14:39):
Crazy game where he had two hundred and fifty five
yards and did that like.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
Backwards reversal leap personal body.
Speaker 5 (14:45):
I guess that everybody has been watching over and over
again and he has been absolutely unreal.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
So, needless to say, the Eagles lead the.
Speaker 5 (14:52):
League in rushing at one hundred and eighty nine yards
per game. Because it's not just him. You got Jalen Hurts,
who is a great quarter back throwing the football, but
he is quite the threat to run. He's got four
hundred and eighty five yards. He has twelve touchdowns. Saiquan
only has eleven, and he's got twelve rushing touchdowns himself,
not to mention through the yard. Yeah yeah, so he's
actually just he's accounted for twenty six of their touchdowns,
(15:15):
Jalen hurt says. So they are just phenomenal and just
about every category offensively, and you know, three hundred and
seventy eight yards per game, that's fourth in the league.
They're seventh in scoring. What's funny is that the thing
that they are the lowest ranked in any way is
passing yards, even though they've got a great quarterback in
jale on Hers, but they're only averaging one hundred eighty
nine years a game because I don't need to throw
(15:36):
at the football because they're doing such a great job running.
But what really stood out to me is the Eagles defense.
They are number one in the NFL in yards allowed
per game, Number one. They're only giving up two hundred
eighty two yards a game. They're a third against the past,
seventh against the run, they're fourth, and points allowed at
eighteen a game. It's they're just lighting it up on
(15:56):
both sides of the football. So this is a tall
tap for this Panthers team. They've got their work cut
out from this week.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
I don't want to hear anymore. I don't want to
hear any more of those stats.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
No, that is that is I had no idea about
that defense. Of course, the offense, and rightfully so, gets
so much of the attention. But man, just just a
juggernaut from from all sides, and hats off to them.
But you know what we have seen that the Panthers
can can play with anyone, and that is that is
what they have said. That's what we're seeing, and so
(16:28):
all they got to do is put it together and finish,
as Dave Canalis would say, And what an opportunity that
would be in Philadelphia against a team that is so great.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (16:38):
Absolutely, And like you said, I mean, I don't think
that a lot of people thought that we would see
the type of performance we saw from the Panthers against
the Chiefs, the defending Super Bowl champs, and they just
balled out and you know, had that game down to
the wire. So certainly nobody is counting out this Panthers team. Yeah,
it's a it's a tall task, but I mean, so
were the defending super Bowl champs, you know so, and
(16:58):
they've they've been playing so well the past two games,
and it's just a matter, like you said, of putting
it all together and finishing plays, finishing drives, finishing the game.
And if I think if they can do that and
they've they've got a chance on this beaning because we
certainly have our own solid running game and great running
back in Cheba Hubbard. And he might not be putting
up the numbers of Saquon Barkley this year, but he's
(17:18):
top five in the NFL himself in rushing yards. And
so if they can get that rushing game going and
keep it going. And now hopefully you're gonna get Jalen
Coker back this week, our rookie receiver who's been playing
so well, he's been out with that quad injury. He
was back at practice on Wednesday, and hopefully he'll be
back out there. Maybe even Jatavian Sanders who's been coming
off of that neck injury. He was in a red jersey,
(17:39):
but hopefully he's trending in the right directions well to
get back out there, so they'll give us some more
offensive weapons to go against that really solid defense. But
this team, when they when they start putting things together,
which they're doing, you see moments, you see it where
they're they're starting to click. They're starting to get things going,
particularly offensively. Bryce is looking just more and more confident
every single play. That that one throw that he had
(18:00):
to Tommy Tremble off his back foot when he was
scrambling out there and just tossed it, I was like,
oh geez, that's a throwaway, and it's like, oh my gosh,
that's a thirty eight yard reception by Tommy Tremble. He's
just playing just better and better every week. So this
is definitely not going to be an easy place to play.
Philly is just notoriously difficult on opposing teams. I remember
being there a long time ago for the NBC Championship
(18:22):
game with the Panthers and that that crazy game that
sent us to the super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
So it's certainly doable.
Speaker 5 (18:27):
To win up there won't be easy, but this Panther team,
I think that they're going to put.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
Up a fight.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
Yeah, notoriously hard on opposing fans and sometimes on their
own fans.
Speaker 5 (18:37):
Yeah a good point, good point, Yeah, yeah, places nuts.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Finally, Sharon, what is the weather looking like at sideline reporters?
That is the main topics that we talk about. How
is the weather going to be in Philly? For you
down there?
Speaker 5 (18:49):
It is going to be very chilly, but the good
news is there is no precipitation on the horizon. Is
just going to be very cold but sunny, and since
it is a one o'clock game, that's certainly helps my
cause with the sun factor. But I will be bundling
up in a big way because I think it's supposed
to be I think your highs are only in the
low thirties, so it's not gonna be It's not gonna
(19:10):
be warm, but I'm well equipped in because David Langton,
our producer, of course, his lovely wife Tracy gifted me
with this awesome, awesome you know the handwarmers. You had
the handwarmers at the game on Sunday. They have heated
vests like that. They have these little vest things that
you put on under your sweater or whatever.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
So she gave me.
Speaker 5 (19:27):
She had one of those Germany, and she just gave
me one of those for an early Christmas present so
I could use it up in Philly.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
So I've got that.
Speaker 5 (19:32):
I've got the foot warmers and the handwarmers, so I'm
I'm well prepared.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
That's amazing.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
I'll have to check those out. Tracy is the best,
so I'm gonna have to get one of those. Maybe
I can be toasty if it gets too cold on
the Panthers sidelines exactly.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
It's the right share day warm, travel safe and we
will talk to you next week.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
Sounds good, thanks, Kristin.
Speaker 4 (19:52):
Okay, I'm joined now by dj Wan.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
Dj Hey, it's great to see how you doing.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
How I'm doing great? Okay. We got to start off
with a little beef right now.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
I went to North Carolina you went to South Carolina,
So I want to know which is the real Carolina?
Speaker 1 (20:08):
Oh? South Carolina? For sure? That's wrong for sure.
Speaker 3 (20:13):
Well okay, so here's what I want to know. So
you've got the Carolina thing on that side, and then
USC there's the other USC. So which one do you
prefer to be called Carolina or USC?
Speaker 4 (20:24):
Because you got competition at both.
Speaker 6 (20:27):
I mean we go by both. I feel like we're
the original of everything. So USC, south Carolina or just
South Carolina's both of us?
Speaker 4 (20:34):
So there you go.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
More you want to address uses US?
Speaker 4 (20:38):
I like it.
Speaker 3 (20:38):
Okay, So speaking of South Carolina, what about the snub
they were ranked fourteenth in the college football playoffs? Okay,
I don't want to start this podcast out on a
bad note.
Speaker 4 (20:48):
But what do you think about that?
Speaker 1 (20:50):
Oh? I mean I think it's I don't want to
say what I think it really is.
Speaker 4 (20:53):
Yeah, he's shaking his head.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
We deserve a spot to be you know what I'm
saying that college folall playoffs.
Speaker 6 (20:59):
Looking at the circumstances of we've been on a wind street,
we won against top teams and the guys are just
just playing great ball, and to not being it, it's
kind of it's kind of messed up, but I don't know.
It's based on this week's championship games. Could that change possibly?
Speaker 4 (21:19):
I don't know. I mean I hope so.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
Right for all the South Carolina fans, I know the
media was was really upset about it, but I mean
I know that ultimately it just matters if you get
in or not. So we'll keep our fingers crossed. My
neighbors to the south. Yeah, US Carolina's got to stick together.
You have some some South Carolina teammates, right, So so
David Clowney JC.
Speaker 4 (21:41):
Is there anybody else that I'm missing? Get? That's oh,
of course? Yeah. Do you guys like all stick together?
Speaker 3 (21:50):
Are you guys watching the games or talking about the
fact that South Carolina got left out?
Speaker 6 (21:54):
Oh? Yeah, we talk about it all the time. Just
you know what I'm saying. Just I guess we weren't
all there at the same time. I was a little
older than us, but we still kind of keep that
the conversations going on South Carolina. Obviously we all feel
like they should be in there. But I don't know,
I think I feel like some good is brewing down
there in Columbia. They got a good coach they got
(22:15):
good players, so disguy's and women for those guys.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
Obviously, I know that that the defense. They're they're your
guys there your side of the ball. But tell me
about Xavier. Do you get to spend a lot of
time you're smiling about him.
Speaker 6 (22:29):
That's a character right there, that's my guy. Obviously we
don't spend a lot of time together, but a lot
of time together. But you know what I'm saying, we
all get together at some point. I see him in
the locker room, in the tub and training room, so
we get we talk a lot. Obviously he was there
with me. He was a freshman and I was a senior,
so it was kind of different. Back in college we
(22:50):
didn't talk much. But now it's like we've been closer
since we've been hearing.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
With the Panthers, for sure, a lot of shared experiences
now from being at one place and then now at another.
Do you think he's gonna get you on a horse
at any point?
Speaker 1 (23:04):
Probably, but also ride horses. I rode him growing up
as well.
Speaker 6 (23:08):
I'm not Yeah, I'm not as coutry as him from
the accident, but my dad is actually from the country,
South Georgia. Thomasin is a small small city down south,
and my grandma and grand dad they all got horses
and all that, so unfamiliar with horses as well.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
Wow, okay, so you're riding horses from like a from
like a young age.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
Yeah, yeah, yep, that's awesome.
Speaker 4 (23:29):
Do you still do you still get to ride at all?
Speaker 6 (23:32):
I do, but I kind of you're busy careful, Yeah, busy,
but I try to be careful because that can be
really dangerous.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
So I don't ride as much.
Speaker 6 (23:41):
But after football, my cousins in autumn, they stood ride
for sure. Maybe after football I get back.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
There, you go, did you know that Josie Jewel is
like he's from Iowa, I think, and he's got this
big farm, like he grew up on this giant farm
and they yeah, yeah, they rode horses all the time
and go and check the fin and stuff and so
like he was on horses all the time. He was
joking about getting all you guys out there on horses.
Speaker 6 (24:05):
Oh yeah, that'd be cool. I feel like we got
a lot in comment, a lot of Uh. I just
really learned that I knew he was, but I didn't
know about the big horse farm. So yeah, that's cool.
Speaker 4 (24:14):
You'll have to ask him about that. He told me that.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
You know, from the time he was little, they would
go it's his huge farm and they would go and
ride horses to check everything. And then by the time
he got older, they're running motorcycles out there, like that's
the way in which things change.
Speaker 4 (24:26):
So he's like out there. It kind of reminds me
of like that show Yellowstone, Like that's just what I picture. Like,
I have no idea if that's what it's like, but
you'll have to ask him about it. Yeah, I'm yeah,
so uh so.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
I want to talk to you about coming back in Germany,
your first game back, you know, months of complications after
your quad.
Speaker 4 (24:48):
What was it like to step out on that field.
Speaker 6 (24:51):
Oh man, it was a bittersweet experience. It's really hard
to put it in words because I don't know. You
just you just go through this long process, this of
not knowing what's going to happen or when it's going
to happen. What's for it to finally happen, and to
finally be back out there was it was just a
moment that I probably would never I would never forget
in my life. And then going out there and playing
(25:13):
well Also it's just I don't know, it's hard to
put in words, but it was a great experience being
out there with the guys. Finally being out there with
the team, finally playing with them and being able to,
you know what I'm saying, helping like.
Speaker 4 (25:26):
The defense, Yeah, you certainly are.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
I mean just the impact that you've had already in
just a few games, it's been incredible. What is that
you guys are all close as a defensive Is that
like to come back and get to play with with
your guys.
Speaker 1 (25:39):
Oh man, it felt good.
Speaker 6 (25:41):
Obviously we booked our relationship in OTA's got closer than
and kind of hang out a little bit, you know
what I'm saying outside of football, But to finally be
back with those guys, man, it's great because it just
like you're sitting on the sideline and you're watching them
out there fighting and they're doing everything they can, you
know what I'm saying, to come up and come up
with these wins and play well on defense, and it's
(26:02):
like you just want to be out there but you can't.
But finally getting back out there with the guys, it's
I don't know, it's just like a brotherly bond.
Speaker 1 (26:09):
That we all share one another.
Speaker 6 (26:11):
We're going through the same thing each and every day,
and just getting back out there with those guys, it
feels great.
Speaker 4 (26:16):
Lastly, I want to ask you just about Germany in general.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
Did you guys get to see anything, to spend any
time doing anything while you were there?
Speaker 4 (26:24):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (26:24):
Yeah, we got a little time. I was able to
get out. I didn't really get to try food. I
was kind of scared.
Speaker 3 (26:32):
That's fair, especially before the game, right, You're like, I
don't want to have anything that might not make me feel.
Speaker 4 (26:36):
Good exactly, like broad worst or whatever. If they got
like that bread there.
Speaker 3 (26:40):
You're like, I don't know, like this, especially for your
first game. You're like, I want to keep it simple,
right exactly, And I don't think I made an even
better decisions, made a good decision by going to McDonald's.
Speaker 6 (26:52):
So it was also great if we were asking if
he was wondering, But but yeah, no, we got some
time to us. I was able to get out, going
to old town and kind of see the city. Yeah,
it's kind of older, more like castle like buildings. It
was actually kind of cool to see to experience. But
non Germany was good.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
And castles are cool, but I got to go back
to the German McDonald's. So I've been over there a
few times. Don't they have different things on the menu too?
Did you see any of those when you were ordering?
Speaker 1 (27:20):
Yeah? So I think they had.
Speaker 6 (27:21):
I think I've seen some spicy nuggets, some kind of
like chili cheese, maybe hamburger or something like that. They
had like a chicken chicken sandwich BSc.
Speaker 1 (27:33):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (27:33):
It was a lot of crazy stuff, different desserts as well,
but yeah, I mean it was great. It tastes amazing.
Speaker 3 (27:41):
So yeah, right, it's the same no matter where you go,
which is awesome. Well, DJ, I won't take up any
more of your time. Thank you so much for talking
to me. We can't wait to see you in the
next game and every game for the rest.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
Of the season for sure.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
Good talking to you all right.
Speaker 4 (27:57):
That is going to do it for us this week
on Sideline Pass. Thank you everyone for listening. We'll see
you next Wednesday.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
M HM.
