Speaker 1 (00:00):
Wow, Jeers, Kristin Balboni and Sharon Thorst love it with
your sideline pass. Welcome to Sideline Pass with your Panthers
reporters Kristin Balboni and Sharon Thor's and Sharon, it is
always good to talk to you. How are you doing today?

Speaker 2 (00:19):
I am doing just great, Thank you. Enjoying this awesome
fall weather. It's a little hot still for October, but
it's beautiful, so I'll take it.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
I know. Of course, I already looked at the weather
for Sunday's game. Since it's a home game, I will
be on the sideline. I think it's going to be
high seventies if I remember correctly. And you know, just
as like a little aside for people if you've been
to a gamer, if you haven't been to a game,
it's hot. It is hot on the home sideline, yep,

(00:51):
for a good you know. And so we'll have fallen
back by that point, so obviously we move an hour back.
But it's hot for like the first two hours, blazing
you've got your sunglasses on, all of those things, and
then it and then it cools right off when the
sun gets behind the stadium.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Yeah, it's it's definitely. It's very warm for this time
of year. But yeah, I can get cooking hot down there,
especially with the turf that even sort of you know,
rams it up a little bit more with the heat
and stuff like that. But it was really hot in
Denver this past weekend. I was really surprised on Sunday.
I mean I had on short sleeve shirts and had
to you know, had shorts, sleep short. I had to
put on sunscreen because it was it was like in
the mid seventies. It was hot on Sunday in Denver

(01:30):
as well. So it looks like a beautiful day for
a ballgame here at Bank of America Stadium.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Yes, speaking of sunscreen, I just have to tell you
really quick. I the last game, the last home game,
it was one of those ones where it's you know,
it starts out. I think the high was seventy two,
but it was just really sunny. I went around and
asked everyone like a crazy person. I was like, do
you have sunscreen? Do you have sunscreen? Nobody, you know,
all of our videographers, no one had sunscreen. I asked

(01:55):
some of the NFL videographers. They looked at me like
I had three heads. I was like, Hi, you do
you have sunscreen by any chance? And I saw one
of them afterwards and she said that, did you find
any sunscreen? I said, no, I didn't. So these are
the things that as sideline reporters. You know, those guys
in the booth, let me tell you what, they don't
have to worry about anything.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
They got a maid. No, no worry about the elements
for them.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Yeah, you got to have layers. As a sideline reporter.
You got to have a rain jacket just in case.
I've been caught in the wrong situation with that. So
you know, these are all the things that to be
an intrepid sideline reporter, you have got to have options.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Absolutely, And I learned my lesson hard way too.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Like you were saying, last season at Tampa, it was
beautiful out, gorgeous, but about late in the second quarter,
this massive storm just boiled up out of nowhere. It
was like a mon soon, and I got absolutely drenched,
beyond belief drenched. So I'm like, you know what, I
always travel now. I have one of those clear ponchos
and hat and I've always got that stashed away in

(02:56):
my backpack just in case, because I don't want to
get stuck like that again where I was like a
for the rest of the game.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
They're there too, or I get like my hair. Of course,
no one can see this because it's a podcast, but
my hair can go all the way out, you know,
those flyaways can go all the way out to my shoulders.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Yeah, it's it's it's a good thing we're on radio
and at TV, right.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Yes, yes, that is one less thing we have to
worry about. We just have to worry about keeping keeping cool,
keeping warm, and keeping dry, depending on what the situation is.
All right, Charon, I thought we could go through you know,
there's a lot of news with the Panthers, and there's
a lot of news that's up in the air. So
I thought maybe we'd go through some of these different
topics and say what we as reporters, what we know

(03:38):
and what we don't know as of right now Wednesday afternoon. Okay,
So what we know is that the team traded wide
receiver Deonte Johnson and a sixth round pick to the
Ravens for a fifth round pick yesterday, and Sharon, therefore,
what we know as well is that these rookie wide
receivers are going to have to step up.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Heck, Yeah, and they've already done just an excellent job
out there. Talking to xavierly Get and Jalen Coker, of course,
are our undrafted rookie who has just done a tremendous job.
Was outstanding last week at Denver. I've got his first
NFL touchdown, which was so much fun to watch him,
and Xavier another touchdown as well, And both of them

(04:18):
are playing extremely good football right now, and neither one
of them look like rookie is. That's one thing that's
really stood out to me. Xavier has just come in
and just rolled in like it's no big deal to
be in the NFL. And Jalen he's just playing a
tremendous football right now, the way he's making some difficult
catches and being able to haul things in and just
is stepping up to the challenge like it's no big deal.

(04:39):
So I love it for both those guys that they're
both playing so well.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Yeah. I was talking to Dave Knalis yesterday and I
was asking him about the Jalen Coker touchdown and that
big catch on third down, you know, on the sideline,
and he just could not, you know, each time he
explained both plays he talked about his vision putting himself
in the right position, and you're right, the knowledge of
football or the way in which he plays it just

(05:06):
feels like, I mean, neither one of them, like you said,
feels like a rookie. But just watching him and watching
his football acumen and where he positions himself and the
way in which he's so smooth, as we have talked
about before, it's just really impressive to see.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Yeah, And I think a lot of that has to
do with the fact that he stayed his entire career
at one college, and he stayed for the entire time
he was eligible there at Holy Cross, and he learned
and he said that he learned so much every year
sticking around, and then of course had that stellar senior
season when he led the entire you know, the entire
country in touchdown reception. So he's just very polished, maybe

(05:42):
the more the more so than some guys that come
out after year two or year three. And he's just
sort of an all around receiver, especially I think playing
in that league that he was in there, the Patriot League.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
So he's just ahead of maybe where a lot of
rookies would be.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Steve Smith had said that when he was coming out
in the draft that he called the best route runner
in the draft, which is saying a lot for a
guy out of his school like Holy Cross as opposed
to somebody at LSU or Alabama or something like that.
So he was noticed way back before the draft by
some some big time people, including none other than nar
Steve Smith. So that that's high praise coming coming from Smitty.

(06:17):
So I know that he's just really liked him from
day one, and he just continues to get better and better,
and he plays with a bit of a chip on
his shoulder. I was talking with him about that last week.
He said, you know, I wasn't drafted. I expected to
be drafted, And he said it, you know, sort of
set him, you know, got a little annoyed that he
wasn't drafted. So he's playing with the chip on my
shoulder out to prove people wrong. But then the grand

(06:38):
scheme of things, he said he couldn't have landed in
a better place, said than the Panthers. His dad has
been a Panthers fan his whole life and just loves
the Panthers, and so they were really excited when he
ended up here in Carolina and he's certainly making the
most of his opportunities.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
I did not know that about his dad.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
Yeah, apparently, Yeah, he's I guess he grew up in
South Kroma. He's a huge Panthers fan, and said they
were just like giddy when he made it to the Panthers,
even though he was not drafted. That was a disappointment.
But then to turn around and immediately get his name called,
you know, or get the phone call from the Panthers
that they wanted to sign him as an undrafted free agent.
They were all very excited about that. So they're they're

(07:14):
on cloud nine, especially with the way that that he's
playing now and being able to be in the lineup
as much as he is and working, you know, you
had to work his way up from the practice squad
and get on the fifty three, and then then taking
advantage of these all these chances that he's got. He's
not disappointing. He's making plays when they come to him,
and I know that's one of the reasons they just
really really are high on him right now.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
I don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves
or make any type of crazy predictions, but the first
part of this story does sound like the beginning of
a sports movie, right. You don't get yeah, you don't
get drafted, but then you end up getting the call
from your dad's favorite team. You work your way up
from the practice squad, and then you get this big
opportunity and all of a sudden, you're making these big catches.

(07:57):
You're you know, getting your touchdown. Obviously, that's you know,
that's only like the first thirty minutes or the first
twenty minutes of an NFL or a sports film. So
I don't want to you know, I need to knock
on wood here. I'm sure Jayleen Cooker would not appreciate
me saying any of that. He's like, should just be quiet, like,
let me get through this season. Yes, but it does

(08:19):
feel like, you know, as you said, you couldn't script
that better. So that's one of the things we know
talking about one of the things we don't know as
of right now early Wednesday afternoon, before we hear from
the media, but even before but even when we hear
from media, I don't think that we're going to know this.
We do not know who the starting quarterback is going
to be this week. Of course, Panthers fans know real least.

(08:41):
I assume that all Panthers fans know that Andy Dalton
and his family were in that car accident last week.
Thankfully they are all okay, but his right hand and
specifically his thumb, have been an issue. That's why Bryce
Young got the start last week. And from what we
have heard and what we saw today at practice, his
thumb is still wrapped, but he did practice to some

(09:03):
degree today Wednesday. But sure, you know, there's a lot
of practice left before they make that decision, and I
think it's all going to be depending on the health
of that hand.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Absolutely, And even last week Dave Canalis had told us
that this was going to go all the way up
to Sunday. They had him travel to Denver just in
case there was a possibility that he would be able
to get out there. So the fact that he was
able to get some practice in Wednesday, that's great news.
And you know it's a home gag, which is even better.
So he's just you know, doesn't have to worry about
the travel and things like that, so still have plenty
of time to get that thumb healed up and hopefully

(09:37):
be able to get out there if that's what they
would like to go with because you know, Andy brings
a veteran presence and it's he's does good things out
there for this offense. So I'm sure that if he
is able, they might like to be able to get
a look at him out there again. But Bryce did
pretty well, I mean, all things considered her last week,
taking on the third ranked defense in the league, number

(09:59):
two in sacks, and I mean they were a fierce defense,
and he, you know, I mean, obviously had some things
he'd liked to have back with those two picks, but
he still was able to move the football and do
some good things against a really, really difficult defense.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
And Saran, you would know this with your scouting reports,
which are always you know, the top of my list
of things that I need to hear as as I
prepare for the games that week. But I believe he
had the second most passing yards against Denver's defense of
anyone this season. Now, some of that came late in
the game, but like you said, there were some positives there,

(10:36):
and to my eye into my ear when I'm listening
to you guys on the broadcast, I saw improvement.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
Like you said, yeah, absolutely, you can tell that he
has definitely learned some things, you know, by being the
backup for a few weeks there and learning from Andy Dalton,
and he said, I got you know, it was a
different perspective to see things from the sidelines, to see
what's going on, you know, with our offense when I'm
not the center of it. So I think that that
was actually a really good thing for him to do.
And you know, there were there were some you know,

(11:05):
some glitches and things with getting calls and things like that,
but for the most part, I thought that he looked
more efficient with the offense. I thought that he looked
more confident out there, especially I know it was late
in the game, but they got into a rhythm more
and you know, he was able to like get and
even the first drive though, was great. When they got
that ball on the on the turnover and had a
short field, they just just drove right on down or
I was able to score. So I think that you're

(11:27):
seeing some more glimpses of the bright young everybody thinks
he can be. And he showed us some things that
he could do again against a very good Broncos defense
on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
And he just seemed more confident. Right. What was your
view from the sideline on that.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
Yeah, absolutely, and he was really being vocal with the
guys down on the sideline. You he'd come over after
every drive, be a good or bad, come down, talk
to the offensive line, to the tight ends, to everybody.
Was going back and forth, saying, all right, guys, we
got this, We got plenty of ball up right where
we want to be. I mean, he was really talking
it up and being a really vocal kind of leader,
which he's he's done. He's shown elements of that in

(12:03):
the past too, But he was definitely he was very
engaged and just felt like he was in control, you know,
in this game. So I thought that he had had
a pretty good outing first first game back, I guess,
to a really tough defense.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
Yeah. And you know, one thing that we don't think about,
or I mean, I'm not saying we don't think about,
but one thing that is notable to think about is
that is just his third game in Dave Canalis's offense. Now,
granted Andy Dalton hasn't had many more, Right, this is
a this is a new offensive staff, this is a
new coaching staff, So it is going to take time

(12:37):
for anyone to get acclimated. But you know, we have
heard Dave Canalis talk about finding that rhythm. He talked
about it after this last game, you know, finding that rhythm,
figuring out what Bryce does well, what he does well
in relation to Andy, and how he can maximize that.
But that is also something that I don't think it's

(12:58):
talked about enough, is that both of these quarterbacks in
this entire offense are still still getting used to each
other in this coaching staff.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
Yeah, absolutely, And when you talk about a guy like
Andy Donald in particular, he didn't get to play in
the preseason at all, you know, because he was dinged
up a little bit so and then got you know,
thrown in in week three, so he has not had
a lot of or didn't at the time have a
lot of reps with all the guys. And then Bryce, yeah,
like you said, he had the first two weeks and
then was on the sidelines, you know, for the last five.
So both of these guys are still in a situation

(13:29):
where they're there and the whole team, like you said,
is still learning this offense and trying to see how
things work. And then when you've got all the moving
parts that they've had too with the injuries, you know,
with Adam Feling going out and then Deonte was injured
some too, and now he's no longer here. And the
offensive line with the guys up and down and the
people that you've missed and that you're you're.

Speaker 3 (13:47):
Missing in that too.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
That's that's made it all the more difficult to try
to get into rhythm. It's sustaying something and know who's
going to be out there every week, because it's it's
been a mixed bag every week with with who you
have out there in terms of your weapons and as
well as your line guys and things like that.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
Yeah, I agree, and you just mentioned the line. So
another thing that we don't know again this is as
of Wednesday afternoon, we don't know kim Iki Akuanu's status
for this week. He got injured. He went out of
last week's game, and so we just don't know, Sharon,
what that is going to look like. Now we do

(14:24):
have if if he's not able to go, The Panthers
have the swing tackle Yoshneiman. We saw him come in
for Taylor Moten a few games ago when Taylor Moulten
wasn't able to play, and Dan Morgan said, that is
the reason, you know, Yoshneimen was brought in specifically to
be a swing tackle in the event that either Iky

(14:44):
or Timo was not able to go in a game. Now,
he did practice today, he was inactive, and I should
say this, josh Nimant practice today. He was inactive last week.
So Ikey was not on the field today during practice
and Yoshneiman. Now, again, as we talk about what you
were just saying about, Andy Dalton could go up until Sunday.

(15:05):
Certainly just because someone has missed a day of practice
does not mean that they are not going to play
on Sunday, but that is an unknown. Sharon.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
Yeah, absolutely, And like you said, we've just sort of
had a revolving door here at the offensive line, even
though they've done a great job with it ever since
Austin Corbett went out last week. When Icky went out,
what they ended up doing is they moved Brady Christiansen
from center out to the left tackle spot and they
put Caid Mays in at center, which was I thought
really interesting. But both of those guys, Cad and Brady

(15:37):
can play all five positions, which is so invaluable to
have in an offensive lineman. And they were completely comfortable
throwing Brady out there at left tackle and putting caid
in at center, even though that might not be the
positions that they normally play, they've done it both of them.
Caid May's played all five positions in college. He started
at least one game at all five positions on the
offensive line, which is huge. And then Brady's been able

(15:58):
to do the same thing. So if Icky is not
able to go, I think they've got a lot of
confidence in the guys they are bringing in. Hopefully Yasha
will be up and be able to play this weekend too,
because that just gives them another option. And then of
course you've got Chandler Savala who's also been able to
give us some quality time and starts and different positions
across the offensive line. So that has been really a

(16:19):
valuable thing for this team last year.

Speaker 3 (16:21):
I know this year.

Speaker 2 (16:22):
Last year was tough with the offensive line, with the
injuries and the you know, just revolving door there. But
the good thing that came out of it was so
many of these guys got valuable reps at so many
different positions. Like Cade me, it's like channels of all
those guys. So that's coming it's paying off now. This
year when we're having more injuries again across that line,
and then when you've got guys in there like you know,

(16:42):
Robert Hunt and Damian Lewis are just huge what they've added,
and of course Taylor Morden, who is our rock there
on the offensive line. So I'm not too worried about
the offensive line this week. I think no matter who
is in there, they're just able to get the job done.
And they did a great job against Denver last week,
who was number two in the league with twenty eight
quarterback sacks. So they held their own against that Broncos defense.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
They absolutely did. So we'll see what happens. But as
you said, I think this coaching staff has a lot
of confidence in whoever can go out there, and we've
certainly seen that payoff, as you said. So the last
thing that I want to ask you about, Sharon, and
when we talk about things, we don't know when it
comes to the Saints, we don't know who the quarterback
is going to be again with the caveat this is
Wednesday afternoon. Now, the Saints are hopeful that Derek Carr

(17:25):
will come back, and I asked Dave Canalis about this,
you know how do you prepare beyond watching film of
the quarterbacks that could be playing, Like what do you do?
And he said something that's really interesting, and you know,
I'm sure this makes a lot of sense, but it's
something that you don't hear all the time. He said, well,
we watch the film on all the quarterbacks, and then
we also watch is what are the things that they

(17:48):
run no matter who the quarterback is? What are they
running no matter who the quarterback is? And I thought
that that was insightful, like we are going to see
these things no matter what, or we think that we're
going to see them in they'll probably lean on that
if the quarterback is not Derek.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
Carr exactly, because Spencer Raller has sort of been a
mixed bag in the games. That's yeah, yeah, he's been
sort of up and down, and you know it got
substituted out last week. And they're the Saints are struggling
right now, six straight losses. I mean, who would have thought.
They're in a very similar position to the Panthers in
terms of key, key injuries on both sides of the football.

(18:22):
So they're they're they're hurting right now, and I know
that they're hopeful that Derek Carr is going to be
able to play, and that will give that offense a
huge boost to have a veteran back out there, because
you know, the same situation that we've we've seen around
here in the.

Speaker 3 (18:33):
Past, EA rookies.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
It's not always easy for a rookie quarterback, and especially
when you're down so many of your offensive weapons and
the team is struggling anyway. So Spencer Raller, it's it's
been a little bit of a rough go for him.
So I'm sure if they get Derek Carr back out
there that the offense will settle down. And no matter
who is out there, though, like you were saying with
them with what Dave Canal said, it's going to be

(18:55):
Alvin Kamara. We know that Alvin Kamara is the offense
of the Saints team right now. He's got five hundred
rushing yards, has got over three hundred more in the
passing game, seven total touchdowns. I mean, everything runs through
him at this point. Because Chris o'lave has been injured.
He came back this past week but is still not
one hundred percent. And Rashid Shahid is he's on ir now.

(19:15):
He's out for the season, So that's a huge loss
for them because he was such such a threat and
so fast, he could really take the top off a defense.
And with the Lobvey dinged up, they don't have a
lot left. They just brought in Marquez Valdez Scanting, a
veteran receiver, so Equinimias Saint Brown are going to probably
bring him up from the practice squad, so they do
not have a lot to work with in the receiving
game with the lave dinged up as well, so you

(19:37):
know you're going to see a whole lot of Alvin
Kamara and now Taysom Hills back as well, and he
can just do absolutely everything.

Speaker 1 (19:43):
So yeah, Panthers fans know, well.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
Exactly exactly, so Kamara should be the the Alvin Kamara
game no matter who is in at quarterback, and that's
the guy they've got to focus on stopping.

Speaker 1 (19:55):
Absolutely well, Sharon, this was great as always. Certainly a
lot of stuff that we will learn now as it
gets closer to game time and a lot of stuff
for me to keep my eyes on as the home
sideline reporter and certainly Panthers fans. Thank you so much
as always, this was great.

Speaker 3 (20:09):
Thanks Kristin.

Speaker 1 (20:10):
All right, now we are here with Shy Tuttle, fresh
off of that big Force fumble in last week's game,
so I have to talk to you about You are
from Midway, North Carolina, right close to Lexington. I am
from a town called Pinehurst, so it's like an hour
and a half away. I went to a high school
called pine Crest. You may have never heard of it,

(20:31):
but I had heard of North Davidson where you went
to school. So we've got some important things to talk about.
Which is Lexington style barbecue. Okay, you're near Lexington, so
we got to talk about it. First of all, what
are your thoughts on Lexington style barbecue?

Speaker 4 (20:46):
Oh, you know, I'm from the area, so I'm a
big fan of it. You know a lot of people
me going to school in Tennessee and knowing people from
like Texas and stuff, they claim their barbecue's abyss, and
I'm like, I'll support North Carolina or Lexington. You know,
the festival was like a week or two ago. Did
you know that?

Speaker 1 (21:04):
I did not know that.

Speaker 4 (21:05):
You know, they have a barbecue festival in Lexington.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
I did know that they have a barbecue festival in Lexington,
but because it's always in football season. I've never you know,
I don't exactly know where it is. Have you ever
been to it?

Speaker 4 (21:17):
Yeah? Yeah, like high school that was a big thing.
Like everyone would go out there.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
Because you go. I know about it because you there's
all these different vendors, right, and they have their smokers
and then you go and taste each one. Yep, yep,
that's some of the I'm with you, that's some of
the best barbecue that I've ever had. And even here's
the thing, if you're from Lexington, you can't say I
like Eastern style barbecue or I like Kansas City style barbecue.

Speaker 4 (21:42):
You can't say it right at all North Carolinian in this.

Speaker 1 (21:46):
That's right. Do you eat the Have you had the
Kansas City barbecue?

Speaker 4 (21:51):
Actually? Yeah, they got there's a popular like QC something. Yep, yeah, yeah,
I wasn't too impressed.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
That's right. That's spoken like a true Lexington native. It's okay,
but they hype it up a lot, like I think
that it's right, and you can't. Nobody can see this
because this is audio. But Shy is nodding vigor vigorously
right now. He agrees with me completely. Okay, So I
have for barbecue. I have a bunch of different sides,
and I need you to rank them on a scale

(22:20):
of one to ten. Okay, this is important stuff. Okay,
first of all, baked beans one to ten.

Speaker 4 (22:27):
Oh, I'm gonna say like a seven.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
Okay, that's strong. That's strong. And look for my money.
Straight out of the can is the best way. Oh no, no, no, no,
you gotta get the full on Lexington.

Speaker 4 (22:41):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (22:42):
That's how my nanna used to make them. I leg
up straight out of the can.

Speaker 4 (22:46):
You like ground beef up in it? Maybe?

Speaker 1 (22:48):
Oh I've never had that one.

Speaker 4 (22:50):
More a little bit of barbecue sauce, yes.

Speaker 1 (22:53):
That's but that's a hot tip about the ground beef.
I did not know that. All right, Mac and cheese
to ten.

Speaker 4 (23:01):
I'm gonna get at like a seven too. That's a
staple in my community. Most people say it. My my siblings.
Mac and cheese is in the side dish. It is
their main dish, for sure.

Speaker 1 (23:13):
I just meant it in relation to barbecue, like if
you're loading up, if you're loading up your styrofoam tray,
you know what I'm talking about. Yeah, what are you getting?
But I look, I love mac and cheese as a
main dish too.

Speaker 4 (23:24):
Yeah, I say about a seven too, Do you come
off strong with two with those two sides?

Speaker 1 (23:30):
Okay, potato salad and like a five that's still not bad.
Potato salad for me is down there. It's like it's
like a two to three.

Speaker 4 (23:41):
It depends on the day. It ain't really too high
on my list. That's the biggest thing, and on who's.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
Making it right, Like you could have really you have
really bad potato salad, and you could have really good
potato salad.

Speaker 4 (23:54):
Do you put raisins in your potato salad? Though?

Speaker 1 (23:57):
No? Ooh no, no, no oh? Do you nah?

Speaker 4 (24:01):
Nah? I might be troop tripping. Some people put raisins
in something. But it's like, I'm not sure if it's
potato salad.

Speaker 1 (24:09):
Well, I don't know. I'm gonna be looking out for
that the next time I have potato salad. That's that's
not up there for me. It is one of those
things though, like I think you can have a really
good taco or really bad taco, but you can't have
really bad pizza, Like all pizza is kind of the same.
But but potato salad really swings in my opinion.

Speaker 4 (24:26):
I agree. I agree.

Speaker 1 (24:28):
Next one coleslaw I'll.

Speaker 4 (24:30):
Probably get out of five. Actually, I like slaw all
my barbecue sandwiches.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
Yes, I can see that that's a big thing, especially
in North Carolina. Now, I don't like it. I don't
like it at all. If I see it, I want
I want it off my plate. I don't want it
to touch the rest of my stuff. I'm like a
zero to one on coleslaw.

Speaker 4 (24:52):
So you're probably one of those people that like, do
you care if your food's touch.

Speaker 1 (24:58):
I don't like it. I don't like it. I'm gonna
be honest, especially if they're different flavors. Do you know
what I mean? Like you get like I don't want
my apple sauce touching spaghetti or something like that. Like
as a kid, I don't eat apple sauce in spaghetti now,
But I don't know what are your thoughts.

Speaker 4 (25:15):
Are you familiar with yams? Yes, so yams and mac
and cheese, like it's fire combination.

Speaker 1 (25:24):
I could see that that's a good that's a good
tip for Thanksgiving.

Speaker 4 (25:27):
It's a little off for the topic of the barbecue,
but you got my you got my like mind open
to food now, and this is something I could talk
about for a while.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
This is the important stuff that we have to talk about.
And I'm getting some really good food tips too.

Speaker 4 (25:39):
Yeah, the mag and cheese and the yams can touch.

Speaker 1 (25:42):
Mac and cheese. I'm definitely gonna try that. Okay, corn
bread out of ten?

Speaker 4 (25:48):
Oh, corn bread like a nine.

Speaker 1 (25:50):
It's so good.

Speaker 4 (25:51):
Yeah, corn bread like a nine.

Speaker 1 (25:54):
Now, where do you fall on like a sweet corn
bread versus I'm getting really into details here. Where do
you fall I'm like, but when you're from North Carolina,
this stuff matters. Will you fall in like a sweet
corn bread versus the saltier kind of Nah?

Speaker 4 (26:05):
I like the sweet like Jiffy.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
I like like that. Mm hmmm. Do you like it
with corn in it?

Speaker 4 (26:11):
Nah? No, corn in it.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
I'm an equal opportunity corn bread. I'll eat any type
of corn bread, that's for sure. Okay, last one, last
barbecue side. I just looked this up on Google, by
the way, so if you think of any more, just
let me know. Hush Puppies probably like a five.

Speaker 4 (26:29):
Five? Yeah, like a five.

Speaker 1 (26:31):
No, I am a huge Hush Puppies fan.

Speaker 4 (26:40):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
Wow, we're going to disagree on this one. I think
you're wrong for this A hush puppy with butter on
the side.

Speaker 4 (26:47):
You might put me on, you might put me on something.

Speaker 1 (26:50):
Okay, Look, I'm just saying so if you so, based
on what I think you said, if I remember correctly,
you're going if you can only load up your styrofoam
plate with so much at the like Sington Barbecue Festival,
You're gonna go baked beans, mac and cheese and corn bread. Yep,
that's a strong plate. That's a strong plate and it

(27:11):
passes inspection. That's right, that's right. You got a sandwich
on the side, You got your Lexington style barbecue and
the slaw on the sandwich.

Speaker 4 (27:20):
You're gonna make me take a drive to Lexington and
go get some barbecue.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
Well, I'm sure your family would be happy to see you.
I just think I just want to say, I think
there's still room for hush puppies on that plate. That's
just me. Maybe no, you're not. Okay, last question, completely
off of barbecue. You're facing your former team this week,
and I always think, like when when guys play with

(27:44):
their former team, people are like, oh, you know, is
it you gotta do well or something? Is it fun
to see the staff? I always think that that's got
to be really neat, right, like your equipment guys or
your trainers. Is it Is it cool to see those
people that you don't get to see all the time.

Speaker 4 (28:00):
Oh, for sure. You know you spend a lot of time.
I feel like people don't realize how much time you
spend with not just like the your teammates, it's like
the people inside the building, like the personnel, player personnel,
the training room staff, the equipment guys. Like I was
good friends, like with the equipment guys, are still keep
in contact, follow them on Instagram and stuff. When I

(28:24):
see them, I say hey, And no, it is cool
seeing those guys and just updating them, you know, cause,
like I mean, there's football, but people have lives going on,
and once you're around each other for so long, you start,
you know, learning each other's like life and people around
who's involved in their lives, so you care for them
more than like sport, Like you develop a true relationship

(28:46):
with them. So it's cool seeing them.

Speaker 1 (28:48):
Yeah, you're not following them on Instagram unless you've got
you know, unless you've got a lot of love for them, right,
You're not keeping up with everybody. Well, I'm looking forward
to that for you and for this game to see
what else, what else you get after And I'm really
hungry now, so I'm gonna let you go. I'm gonna
I think I'm gonna have to figure out a way
to get some bar It's not gonna be awesome Lexington

(29:09):
style barbecue, but I might have to have barbecue for dinner. Now.

Speaker 4 (29:13):
Is Pinehurst like like West Stokes and stuff like.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
That or no, No, it's like in the It's like
in the sand Hills. So there's Southern Pines, there's Aberdeen.
I don't know if you it's it's like southwest of Now.
Look there's no big city around it, so if you
don't know it, then it's it's like Greensboro is probably yeah,
I mean Lexington and Greensboro are probably the closest cities.

(29:38):
There's Fayetteville maybe thirty forty minutes away. We're just a
small We're a small little town.

Speaker 4 (29:45):
Same Midway's probably probably the same scale.

Speaker 1 (29:49):
Yeah, but you guys have barbecue and we don't. Okay, shy,
thank you so much. I'm hungry now. I'm gonna have
to go get some barbecue for dinner with hushpuppies on
the side. I just want to say that and thank
you to everybody for listening to Sideline Pass. We'll see
you next week, yeah,
