Speaker 1 (00:02):
This is an Unspoiled network podcast. This is spoil Me,
covering one piece episodes seven seventy one through seven seventy three,
A vow between two men, Lufy and Kozuki Momonosku, the
(00:23):
legendary journey the Dog and the Cat and the Pirate King,
and the Nightmare returns the Invincible Jack's fierce attack. In
these episodes, I really enjoy it. Every time Lufy doesn't
give everybody the response they're looking for, and this section
(00:46):
was no different. He is telling Pomenoske, if you're gonna
throw your fucking weight around, you better earn that shit,
and I can respect it. Welcome to spoil Me, Welcome
(01:18):
to the show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you very
much to Florian for commissioning this episode. And Florian is
here in the chat with me as well. Appreciate having you.
It's also noting noteworthy to me that Florian is here
when it's the last recording of the day, which means
it is latest fuck there, so I extra appreciate the
(01:40):
effort of attendance. So these three chapters are really sort
of the transitional chapters I kind of want to call
them of, like we are going from a. We're going
from the planning stages of the attack into a new
(02:06):
part of the arc, and I'm really curious how this
is going to shake out, because what I think is
sort of compelling is that we have all of our
friends agreeing to split up so that Lufy can go
and rescue Soanji, and then that whole thing is interrupted
(02:28):
by this attack on the elephant. And I don't know
if they're going to try and like sort of have
it both ways where Lufi is going to attack them
on his way out to Soanjy. But I feel like
this is gonna have to result in him postponing his
(02:49):
original plans, because it's one thing if they're coming back
and attacking Zoe, because we know that our friends, you know,
they're going to be able to handle this, they've put.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Them off before.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
But they're coming at this from the direction of let's
take down the elephant itself, and from the way from
the way everybody is reacting and the way that it's
proposed by Jack. It seems pretty clear to me that
this has never been attempted before, so it's very much
(03:23):
more than it has in the past. It's like an
unknown quantity in terms of how effective this can possibly be.
And there's also of course, setting all of like the
practical practical aspects of this aside. There is the fact
that Momonosque and Loofy can hear a voice at the
(03:45):
end of this last of the three episodes, and I
think that it's the voice of the elephant. But it's
weird because it's asking for them to give him an order.
And I do not know what this means if it's like,
(04:09):
is this elephant not allowed to defend itself unless somebody
like gives him explicit permission? Because this elephant is over
a thousand years old, right, Zo is a much older
place than like the settled United States, and a thousand
(04:33):
years i'd like there is I don't know how much
anybody knows about this elephant and the founding of this
place and how any of this works. And I am
genuinely curious because this elephant has been you know, the
(04:53):
whole way that it like pours water on itself. It's
got a major impact on the land and the people
living on it. It's not as if they are really
able to forget that the elephant exists and is a thing,
because it's interacting with the terrain all the time. So
(05:14):
the question of whether or not they could have gotten
to know the elephant before is it's like a valid question.
But because of the fact that there's only two people
that seem to be able to hear it, I'm very
curious what that's about. I would have assumed this is
(05:34):
like a dragon fruit thing or devil fruit thing dragon fruit,
but apparently Brooke can't hear it. And I mean it's
not like I don't know, does Momonoske have a D
as his middle initial? Is this going to turn out
(05:56):
to be like a D skill?
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
I'm just I really am curious about both how what
this is going to turn out to be and like
whether or not it's going to result in Loofy not
being able to leave to help Sanji the way that
he planned, or if we're gonna sort of carry on.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
With that anyway. So I'm gonna back up and.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
We'll start from the beginning as usual. But yeah, I uh,
I these episodes, once we get into this like Final Attack,
I was re engaged. But I'm gonna be honest, you guys,
I think where this show is at its weakest. I mean,
(06:48):
you all know that I have a tendency to sort
of tune out during long battle sequences because they can
get really repetitive. However, I know that's kind of really
specifically a me thing, and it's not necess necessarily like
a weakness of the show. It's just sort of how
I react to action sequences in anything. I will begin
(07:10):
to tune out if they go on too long. In movies,
you know, don't care how many explosions you decide to
insert into this. I have already seen eleven other explosions.
Throwing in an extra dozen isn't really going to get
my attention. And this will happen in books as well,
and The Cradle books were ones where like toward the end,
(07:32):
it gets really action heavy, and I have said during
coverage that there were long stretches that I straight up
had to go back and re listen to, so I
didn't because I tuned out. Now, that's all preference. I
feel like that's all like a very distinct me opinion.
(07:56):
But I think I could be agreed with by enough
people to kind of come to the unanimous decision on this,
And I'm curious how you all feel. I think that
when the show starts to get into a lot of exposition.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
That is when it begins to lose me a little bit.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
And I'm not entirely sure, Like I don't have a
great example that is like an example of everything I'm
thinking when I say this, But we have a lot
of info dump in both this section and the previous
one regarding the pony glyphs and the history between cat
(08:50):
Viper and dog Storm and Goldie Roger, and I feel
like this is the sort of thing that could have
been done in a way that was a bit more
engaging than just sort of telling us.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
And it's not like we don't get.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
Little flashbacks and stuff as well, But it is still,
in the end, just them standing with Lufy explaining to
him what things are or who people are, or the
relationship that they had. And if it were the only
thing they were doing this with, I don't think it
(09:28):
would feel so tedious isn't really the right word. It's
just sort of so samey that after they have explained
a bunch of other things in the previous sections, for
us to come into this one and for there to
be additional explanation of things and description of things, I
(09:52):
started to definitely sort of zone out and have to
come back and rewind and of like tune back in
very specifically, because I was realizing that things were sort
of like washing over me and I wasn't catching the details.
So all that said, I do I do want to
(10:13):
like apologize if there are details in this that I
wound up missing that later on you're gonna be like,
but they explained all this. I just it doesn't always land.
And I think that's part of the danger when.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
You do a lot of like drawn out.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
What mouth noises, I guess, you know, they'll be a
person who starts to say and then and then.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
They were all killed.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
And it takes like two full minutes to get to
the end of the sentence where we find out everybody
died or you know anything, And I will literally find
myself just like my mind starts to wander before they
even reach the end of the sentence because it takes
so long to get to the point. So it's like
(11:11):
a combination of that and a combination of wishing that
we took more time with certain details so that we
could actually see those instead of it just being a
story that we are told later. So all right, I'm
jumping into the first of these three episodes here and
(11:36):
this is when, like the last episode ended with Lufy
finding out that the uh one of the samurai actually
made it to Laughtail, and the episode is mostly about
what happened to Momo's.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Dad, what the deal is with the.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
Oh my god, his name help me out, Florian.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
What is the name of the guy they're about to
go up against? And it starts with a K.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
But the way that the tone of the episode starts
is Momonosk is crying and Lufy is sort of like
pushing him to get the story out of him, because
he is allowing the samurai to speak on his behalf
about his own father, and it's sort of setting the
(12:30):
tone for how Lufy feels about this entire thing. So there,
and there's a moment like later where Nami is like, oh,
poor Momonoske, and she sort of moves to comfort him,
and Lufy actually like puts a hand out and stops her.
And I already had my suspicions about like what was
(12:56):
going on in his head, But once we get to
the end and we see exactly how he has chosen
to like approach this, I really liked it.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
I just.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
You know, It is kind of a weird thing because
Maminoski simultaneously wants a loofy to bow down and wants
to be in charge and treated that like he is
in charge when he feels like it, but then when
something is too big and overwhelming and emotionally impactful, he
(13:32):
is very happy to fade to the background and let
the samurai take it on for him. And if you
want to be a leader, you can't do that now.
Granted the kid is literally eight years old. I am
very much a believer in that we underestimate kids in general,
(13:55):
that in many ways they're smarter than we give them
credit for, and that we should probably be like less
protective of them overall in certain ways than we are.
That said, it's always very difficult for me when I
see a child, a literal child in the single digits,
(14:19):
being told to behave more like a grown man.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
It's just.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me,
because like, nothing about that is real. It's it's pretend,
but everything is pretend when it comes to leadership, Like, honestly,
there's there can be truth in it, but it's all
much more about your reputation and pr in a lot
(14:49):
of ways than anything based in reality. So it's just
it feels like demanding something really unfair. However, I guess
if you're in the position of being a prince, you
are going to be wielding so much responsibility that of
course more is going to be asked of you than
(15:11):
it would be asked of any normal kid. So I
guess it's sort of like the same situation in some ways,
as like the opening of Song of Ice and Fire.
Once you get past the prolog, you are with Bran
and he is seeing this guy get beheaded, and he's
(15:32):
only seven years old, and he feels like that means
that he is old enough that he can't cry or
behave as if he is upset by this execution, he
has to completely hold it together. And it just breaks
my heart to see how little he is already feeling
this way. So yeah, I just like I get where
(15:58):
Lufy's coming from. I agree with him in terms of
the impression that it's going to leave on his followers,
the people around him, his men. I think that the
advice Lufy is giving here actually is good and solid
(16:20):
and will serve him in a long run, But it's
just so deeply unfair that I.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
Don't like that it's good advice. Does that make sense?
Speaker 1 (16:33):
I don't want this to be valid.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
I just but that's the fucking way it works. I guess.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
So who asked me? Oh, Florian, says Kaido, King of
the Beasts. Thank you, Florian. You have a different This
happens sometimes with you. You're icon changed. So for a
second I thought you were a different person, but both
of the you are Florian.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
So let's see.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
I'm trying I'm jumping around so much as I'm talking
about these things, So apologies for when I'm like trying
to regroup and figure out where to begin with it,
like talking about the next session because section, because uh,
everything that I'm talking about takes like the whole episode
(17:21):
or sometimes all three episodes, and then I have to
like back up again. We have a mention of the
Void Century and the reminder of how like the world
government arose during the Void Century and they have made
it illegal for anybody to research or investigate the Void Century,
(17:42):
which is just honestly, really really funny. It's the sort
of thing that's like, you know, if they have the
power to enforce it, then I get doing it this way,
but it is so transparently suspicious. There's nothing about this
that doesn't scream we did something extra realmly probably like
(18:03):
super villain level shady. That it's just everybody has to
know that's what was done, but they are all intimidated
enough or just in that weird place that we're in
now in twenty twenty five, where it's like, yeah, I
know that this is completely corrupt and unjust, but I.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
Have a job that I have to get to.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
I have to pay my electric bill, I need to
go get gas, like I have an actual life to live,
and yes, all of these other things are unfair and suck,
but I can't be bothered. It's not relevant to my
immediate life, so whatever you know. And so, like Robin
(18:50):
is thinking about all of this in regard to the
ponent glyph and all of the implications.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
About what was going there.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
Going on there, we get the reminder of all of
the people that she was working with to translate stuff
and do research getting murdered. And u Zorro says, so
you're saying that Kaido was using do Flamingo and Caesar
to try and learn these secrets of the world or
whatever from you, since you guys were Odin's servants, and
(19:25):
I just want to mention like that his name being Odin,
it's O D E N. And I keep getting brought
up short thinking that it is, you know, the like
Norse god, but uh and I it may be a
reference to the Norse god, but it's not spelled the
same way. And also laughtail. I didn't realize that it
(19:45):
is like literally the words laugh and then tail like
a story and it is that is so I don't
know how I didn't see a subtitle saying laughtail up
to now and didn't realize how it was spelled. I
just saw the subtitles when I watched these episodes today
for the first time and was like, oh my god,
(20:08):
that's what that that's what they're saying. Like it was
just a weird realization because I thought it was all
one word, and then it was just sort of a
strange It almost sounds like Swedish left tail, like you
know what I'm saying. Realizing that these are actually like
words in English that are just put together. I should
have realized because a lot of the islands are named
(20:30):
in this way. This is like the naming convention that
he goes with a lot of the time, but uh,
I was not getting it, so apologies for that. So anyway,
this is when Oosup is saying, like, wait, if you
knew the mysteries of these ponoglyphs all along, why didn't
you tell anybody? And Keineman says, we actually don't know anything.
(20:53):
Odin didn't tell us any of the secrets. So they're
chasing us and they're certain that we know, but we don't,
and if we did, we still wouldn't fucking tell anybody.
But they're never gonna stop chasing us because they don't
believe that we don't know anything. So the only option
left is to fight. And it was very funny to
(21:17):
me here because I had a moment and this is like,
I don't actually believe this, just to be clear, but
I definitely had a moment of thinking, you guys, like
the Minks all swore up and down that Riizo wasn't here,
and then it turned out that he was. So you saying,
we have no idea anything about this, I would be
(21:41):
excused if I didn't believe you. I think I do
believe them. I actually there's not really a good reason
for them to lie to this group right now. But
I was thinking, like, y'all are pretty hardcore when it
comes to keeping secrets for the people that you have
(22:02):
loyalty to. So if it turned out that you did know,
and we're just saying you didn't hear, I wouldn't be surprised,
you know. So uh yeah, he says, we all failed.
This is Kinemon to protect our lord as Samurai. We
bear a great burden of shame, but we shall press
(22:23):
onward for one cause into our memories is Odin's final request.
Until that deed is fulfilled, we cannot allow ourselves a
moment of respite. And dog Storm and cat Viper are
both chiming in as this as well. And it was like, okay,
what was the last thing he said? And Kinilmon says
(22:47):
before he left the last words to us, and everybody
like looks up word, do.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
It for me?
Speaker 1 (22:55):
Open Wanos borders. So it turns out that Wano is
like isolated from the entire rest of the world. Nobody
is allowed to leave the country and nobody is allowed
either to enter either. But if the borders are opened,
(23:18):
then they can interact with other countries. And this is
very interesting to me because like the fact that they
are sealed, and the fact that they are the ones
that had historically created these ponoglyphs, and the fact that
there is a void century that nobody is supposed to research,
and all of this to me is pointing to likelihood
(23:45):
that actually there is some evidence on Wano of what
happened during the Void century, and that the isolation of
this island in this community is to protect whatever secret
they're keeping. And yeah, I am in one of those
(24:08):
those places where like anything that is officially sanctioned At
this point, I'm just like, well, that must be bullshit.
There's something shady about this. There's no evidence, necessarily, but
there is a pattern, which I consider evidence in its way,
and I think that the isolation of Wano is probably
(24:32):
being framed as like a benefit for the community itself,
maybe even to like protect them from something, but is
very likely simply about keeping information locked down. So let's see,
Condrea is talking about how they have shamed ourselves, and
(24:55):
you know that he died on our watch basically, so
our only way of saving face is to follow his orders,
kill the current shogun and open the closed borders to
our country, Kinemon says. Achieving said feet is our deepest desire,
(25:16):
but due to the combined strength of the Shogun and
Kaido WANO's stuck in a lockdown back at home, the
seeds of rebellion are slowly being sown, yet we fall short.
Our numbers are lacking as of yet, and our victory
is a distant hope. I don't remember if they say
(25:37):
who the Shogun is. I feel like they've said the
name of this person and I can't remember who it is.
Throughout all of this, in the background, Momo is crying
like into his sleeve, and this is the moment where
Nami starts to go toward him. So we reach the
(25:59):
point where where finally Kinemon says, you know, I hate
to ask this because of everything that you guys have
done for us already, but I we really need your
help in taking.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
Down the Showgun. Will you please?
Speaker 1 (26:16):
I know it's a lot to ask, but it's what
we've been working toward this entire time. Will you please
help us take him out? And it's kind of fun
where everybody is sort of.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
Giving these like.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
They each explain why they think it makes sense to
jump into this fight, and you know, all of this
setting up the fact that they all are on board.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
It's a given in their minds.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
They don't feel any way about them asking for this
as a favor after everything that they've already been through.
In their minds, it's just like, yeah, what another adventure.
And we were sort of like going in this direction
with things anyway, it doesn't matter, like, of course we'll
throw down with you guys. And then we have like
(27:16):
it cuts to Loofy and they're looking at him for
his response, and we get an interstitial and then it
comes back and I was kind of delighted, honestly with
the fact that, like there's that break where you're just
looking at him waiting for his response, because they don't
do that very often with Loofy, specifically because he's so
(27:41):
impulsive that they just sort of let it ride a
lot of the time, you know. So it comes back
to Loofy after the interstitial and he just says, I refuse,
and I refuse. Is it's just such a way, like
(28:03):
it's not just no, it's not just like, you know,
we need to figure things out. There's something very declarative
about I refuse that. I was like, oh, word, that
feels like like it's got some mustard on it, you know,
and everybody is just wait, what.
Speaker 2 (28:24):
Did he say? What I think he said? And Usup
is like, you need to think it through.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
You can't just turn them down in this way, and
they all to start to get genuinely upset about the
fact that these guys are our friends. Why would you
leave them in the lurch like this. Usup starts to
like beat him up and like shake him and goes
up to the Samurai and it's just like, hey, give
us a second, we just need to talk things through.
(28:51):
Just let us figure it out. Nami is like, you know,
she gives in again to her instincts to sort of
protect Momo and is like, hey, don't listen to him.
Our idiot captain can just be like this sometimes, and
(29:13):
so she's like wanting to hug him again, and Brooke
is saying the soft part out loud, which is he's
just a little kid. Everybody take it easy on him.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
The adults will figure.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
It out, and we will basically tell him how it's
gonna be. And then it's like, Womanoske understands, I think
what it is that Lufy is attempting to do here.
He's like clocking the lesson underneath it all, I think.
(29:52):
So he walks right past Nami and you hear him
in his head head and he's thinking, he's remembering the
moment where his father was taken away from him, and
it's honestly really sad. He's in silhouette and he's just
this little tyke, you know, just the pain of this loss.
(30:14):
And uh, he says to I'm trying to get to
the spot where he was an enemy to both of
my parents and also responsible for their untimely deaths. And
I want revenge on I want nothing more than to
grow up and become strong so that I may one
day smite him and avenge my mother and father. I
(30:37):
wish to protect my loyal servants as well, and Knemon
starts to chime in and be like, ah, man, dude,
I'm like, I didn't expect you even to be involved
in this conversation, and he seems to not really know
what to do about it, and then we go back
to Momo and he's like, but I'm too small to
(31:00):
really do anything. I am useless in a battle, So
I am begging you for this favor. Please help me fight,
and he falls to his knees and bows in front
of Loofy and says, I am, I must beg of you,
and then Lufy says, that's more like it. Hey, Momo,
(31:27):
let's make a deal. Let's team up. Just leave Kaido
to me, and it's an alliance. And he holds his
hand out and it's so cute because Momo grasps his
hand with a both of his own hands, like he
presses his face against his hand like it's very much
a it feels very emotional, and Lufy is like no, no, no, no, no,
(31:51):
grab it tight like this, go bam, you know, like
you've got to have a feeling of power and purpose
behind it. And I just really liked this bit of
theater from Loofy because I don't Loofy, I'm sure doesn't
see it as theater, even though it is. I think
(32:15):
when he does all this stuff, he means it, and
I think a lot of people mean it. But that
doesn't mean that it's not theater and that you mean
it because you were taught in the first place that
it means something specific. So yeah, like Mama has been like,
but I am grabbing your hand and he's like no, no, no,
this way, And we go around to all of the allies,
(32:38):
and Kinanmon himself is saying, you know, it didn't occur
to me, but we were infantilizing him. So I guess,
like straw Hat really made a good point here, and
probably this is the beginning of a new era. And
I had noticed at the beginning of this episode, and
(33:00):
I I really want to preface this by saying, I
do not think that this episode is the first time
that it's happened, but I noticed it specifically this time
for the first time.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
I don't know why, but at.
Speaker 1 (33:16):
One point the show transitioned from calling Lufy a boy
whose body became rubber after eating the Gumgum fruit to
now calling him a rubber man. And I'm not sure
if this is actually meant to be an indication that
he has grown up, or saying rubberman just has a
(33:39):
better ring to it than rubber boy, or what you know.
But I noticed that they were calling him a man,
and then they had this whole thing happen with Momonoske,
and I was like, Oh, everybody's grown up, even though
Momonosque is still he's too.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Young to have grown up. I'm so sorry, he's eight
years old.
Speaker 1 (33:57):
This is not fair to ask of him, but also
it is to be done, so you know, like, what
are you gonna do?
Speaker 2 (34:05):
And I do like that.
Speaker 1 (34:07):
Law comes up to Loofy and is like, hey man,
you really should have run this by me first, and
Lufy is like, well, but it's cool for us to
do this, isn't it. And Las says, well yeah, but still,
and I couldn't help but laugh because I really need
you to figure this out. Law. You aren't not in charge.
(34:30):
You aren't really a consideration. Even Loufy is gonna do
what he gonna do. And if you happen to be
able to come along, great, and if you aren't able
to come along, he'll see you tomorrow. It's just not
about you, bro, And you're not You're not part of
(34:51):
this really not really you are, but it's always just
because you decided, and it's not because that's the expect Haiti,
even that Louvi has I don't think you know so anyway,
That is the first of these three episodes, and then
the next episode, the Legendary Journey The Dog and the
(35:15):
Cat and the Pirate King. This is when Loofy finds
out about the fact that Dog Storm and Cat Viper
traveled with.
Speaker 2 (35:29):
Gold Roger.
Speaker 1 (35:31):
And it's also when Lufy says that I will help
you guys on one condition before we go anywhere. My
crew is down a man right now, and he says
something like, Soanji is as strong as ten thousand people.
He says something that's like really pretty awesome in terms
(35:53):
of how he thinks of Sonji's capabilities, and like, Sonji
is hella strong. So I'm not at all mad at
him making this comparison, even though it might be a
little bit over the top. I don't even know that
it's that over the top, you know. And Dogstorm didn't
know about any of this because he was asleep while
(36:15):
this was going on and kat Viper hadn't had a
chance to bring him up to speed.
Speaker 2 (36:19):
So he's just hearing for the first.
Speaker 1 (36:20):
Time that Sanji is about to like marry into Big
Mom's family and everybody else like they're keenum one as well.
Is just sort of like, oh, I didn't understand, That's
why he wasn't here. So yeah, he's like, everybody pause
here until I'm able to go collect him. Here he is,
(36:41):
He's as strong as a thousand people. Trust me when
I say this'll be worth it. And Zoro says that
I'm worth two thousand people, and Nammy just pats him
on the head and says, of course you are. And
I love her reaction to this, I really do. I
hadn't noticed. Like the previous episode, when Robin is saying
(37:03):
that her friends are strong and they'll take care of her,
Nammy says something about how anybody that gets in their way,
she'll kill them and steal all their money. And I
don't know why, but everybody else is just threatening to
do violence, but not me, being like, I'm going to
do violence and then I am going to.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
Make money off it. I was like, you are so ruthless.
I love you so much.
Speaker 1 (37:25):
So dog Storm is like, hey, big Mom is nobody
to fuck with, just like be prepared, and he says, oh,
I'm not fighting Big Mom. This is loofy. And he says,
I'm taking Lion Viper, which is what he is calling
the well lion guy that is going to be his
(37:51):
ally here, which I really enjoy Lion Viper.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
Why not sure?
Speaker 1 (37:58):
So this this is when we go over to Jack's ship.
He's got sheepshead dangling upside down from the pirate ship
equivalent of a fucking meat hook, and this dude is bloody,
and it is clear he is being punished for what
(38:18):
he did for.
Speaker 2 (38:22):
Just not succeeding. I just want to be very clear
that when we are in.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
Gin Rummy's head, she says something like he'd better not
fucking tell this dude that we left those people alive
and got our asses handed to us. And when I
realized that, like this is how angry Jack has gotten
when he doesn't even know the whole story and how
bad it all is, I definitely had a like, oh
(38:50):
damn kind of moment because I thought that's what he
was punishing him for, and I have to assume that
if he knew the rest of it, he'd literally kill him.
So this is the point where Jack says something about
how we've been coming out this the whole wrong way.
We need to attack the elephant itself, and jin Rummy
(39:12):
is like, the thing is colossal. Where would you even
start on taking something.
Speaker 2 (39:18):
Like that down?
Speaker 1 (39:20):
And it turns out the legs is where you start,
which does make sense, but it's.
Speaker 2 (39:29):
Uh, it's really you guys.
Speaker 1 (39:35):
I can't emphasize enough how much I hated the scene
of seeing them firing on this poor elephant's legs. This
surprises no one. You all know what a fray and
softy I am when it comes to the animals on
(39:55):
this show. I'm not like, this is not interesting. In
other words, I understand, and I'm sorry, but I have
to tell you that it was a big struggle for
me personally to not fast forward because it goes on
(40:16):
longer than I was gonna say, longer than I wanted to.
Of course it does because it's happening. The only way
for it not to go on longer than I want
it to go on is for it to not happen
at all, which isn't an option here.
Speaker 2 (40:30):
But it's just so sad because like.
Speaker 1 (40:33):
The way that the elephant is being described by Jack
is that it's gotten old and its skin has gotten
thin and weak, which just really kind of like hammers
home for me, how elderly this elephant is, do you
know what I'm saying, And so it just made me
(40:55):
feel all the sadder because it made me think of
old people with papery skin.
Speaker 2 (41:00):
And then you actually.
Speaker 1 (41:01):
See the cannonballs hitting its legs and the way that
its skin sort of just comes away and breaks apart
and flutters like the way that paper does when it's
been burned and the wind catches the ash, it will
all look like it's still one piece that's burned but
(41:22):
stayed like, you know, for a moment, and then the
wind hits it and it just And that's what the
skin of this elephant is doing.
Speaker 2 (41:30):
And it was distressing y'all. Like I honestly, if I'm.
Speaker 1 (41:38):
Being real, I guess that the reason why this hasn't
been done before is simply that nobody has really had
an issue with Zoe as a country, so nobody has
been trying to take Zoe down. But this is the
smart way to do it, I think, you know. But
(42:01):
that does not mean that I am at all on board.
I absolutely am not. But it is like a smart
move in its way. I hate that. I hate having
a villain who is smart sucks. So this is Loofy
has this conversation about Shanks with Cat Viper and he's like, oh, yeah,
(42:27):
I knew him. I guess that's why that hat looked
so familiar to me. And he's like, so were you
guy's pals and he says, yeah, the cat and I
traveled with him and Roger years ago, and Lufy just
literally stops dead in his tracks and then has to
(42:47):
run and catch up and is like, wait, you were
part of his crew, and dog Storm interestingly says, I
suppose that would be one way of putting it. We
accompanied Lord Odin, serving as his retainers everywhere he went.
We even once sailed on whitebeard ship.
Speaker 2 (43:09):
The moby Dick.
Speaker 1 (43:10):
So when Odin was recruited by Roger, we naturally escorted
him as well. Oos Up gets very excitable here and
he gets out of a notebook and he starts taking notes.
You guys, I, for the life of me, do not
remember when when us Up turned into the records guy?
(43:36):
Is this? Like?
Speaker 2 (43:37):
Has this been happening? And I just wasn't really noticing it.
Speaker 1 (43:41):
I just found it. It stood out here in a
way that it hasn't other times. And I was sort
of like thinking that if I were to have predicted
who was going to have this job, I think I
would have assumed it would be Robin, because she's the
one who's all about history, and so I would think
(44:02):
that wanting to keep a record of things would be
a lot more important to her than it would be
to Oosop. But yeah, let's see, I'm having a little
trouble keeping up with all of this. Now, let's see here,
and he's looking through his little book. We didn't join
those guys when they made it to Laughtale, he says,
(44:25):
is cat Viper, And he's like, so, first Whitebeard ship
and you said it was Odin and the dog and
the cat. Then Odin was recruited by Roger and he
took you to with him. I miss anything, and cat
Viper says, I remember it quite clearly.
Speaker 2 (44:42):
We had so much fun. Those were the days.
Speaker 1 (44:46):
And we still don't know exactly what happened with cat
Viper and dog Storm, but they apparently were like still
getting along during this part of the their relationship. And
cat Viper is just saying, all of the things that
they discovered while they were on the road, and there's
a bunch of stuff that's like what our straw hat
(45:07):
people have also run into, you know, the Skypeia and
the Fishman Island.
Speaker 2 (45:16):
YadA YadA. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (45:20):
This is when they start, like they put their arms
around each other and start singing as they remember old times,
and Loofy asks Kinemon about them and whether they also
went and he says, no, we were back in Wano.
We try to stop Odin from leaving home, but he
wouldn't listen to us. As we mentioned in our conversation before,
(45:44):
Wana is forbidden from intermingling with other countries, and this
is strictly enforced, so strictly that even stepping foot outside
its perimeter is considered a felony. Lord Odin was somewhat
of a malcontent and was not shy about expressing his
doubts about the restrictions of segregating our home, and he
(46:05):
sought camaraderie with white Beard and Roger and their crews.
Speaker 2 (46:08):
Because of this.
Speaker 1 (46:11):
Honestly speaking, they were honorable men. Yet if we allowed
him to sail with them, there'd be outrage. So our
duty was clear. And Keeneman says this like it's really
shameful that they had to do it, but also, you know,
being defensive of if this was our job, almost like
(46:33):
he thinks Lufy is going to be upset with him,
and of course, like Lufy could not care less. He's
just like, oh, okay, so you weren't there whatever. He
doesn't care about these sorts of nuances here. He just
cares that they have met Shanks and know who he
is and is excited by that. So this is when
Frankie says, oh, if you wrote on Roger's ship, then
(46:55):
you met Tom, who was the shipwright that I apprenticed under.
And I keep forgetting about the connections between so many
people and gold Roger and then the straw Hats, not
all of them necessarily, but this whole thing with Tom,
like I had straight up forgotten. And both Dogstorm and
(47:15):
Catpiper are very impressed by this relationship. So then we
have this interesting moment with Namy where I feel like
I wasn't totally getting it. But Nammy asks them, are
you sure about this route? And she holds up her
log pose, the one that has like the three. She says,
(47:38):
see the needles. Usually to navigate to our next destination,
we use the location that these three are pointing toward,
shouldn't we continue to track them? And she says this,
and it says in the subtitles, all gasp I don't
(47:59):
get it. Why are they gasping? I don't even understand
really what the log poses are telling us, because one
is pointing in a different direction than the other two,
and the like just the moment of the question and
the way that this like the reaction that she gets
(48:21):
It feels like she said something very dramatic here and
I wasn't understanding it at all, and she says, like,
you know, we followed Traffy with his viaver card, which
is what led us to Zoe, and you know, we've
found the phonoglyph which points to Laughtail. But according to
(48:42):
Crocus at the Twin Capes, if you track the logs,
every single pathway will eventually converge into one trail. I
pretty much always assumed that's where Laughtail would be located.
And Crocus is somebody that uh Brooke had tried to
bring up earlier, and Nommy interrupts him to get to
(49:04):
her point first. And so when his name comes up,
cat Viper is very excited and it's just like, oh, man,
I love that guy. I haven't seen him in a
long time. How is he doing. Loofy chimes in about
Laboon and that it's been a couple of years, but
last time we saw him he was doing great, and
he was our ship's doctor. I remember that back in
(49:26):
the day he was always on the search for some
pirate crew and Brooke, I bet that was mine. They're
all dead now. And then nom Mey chimes in, enough
with the chit chat. I'm trying to talk about something serious.
Heren me, you are so savage girl. Oh my god. No.
(49:49):
Me is like, it's such a weird thing with this show,
how uninteresting so many women characters are. But he did
something so fun with Namy that I'm just like, where
is this again? Like, just do this again? Have somebody
who's who's complicated and layered, you know, somebody who simultaneously
(50:10):
wants to do the right thing and also wants to
rob you very much. Just find something like this again. Man,
give us all some complex characters. So Dogstorm says, well,
if you want to see where the log pose leads
you next, then you can just follow it. This is
certainly a location where they're all there is certainly a
(50:34):
location where they're all pointing, and everybody again has this reaction,
and like it's just like, oh wow, really, I don't
understand why anybody is behaving in response to these statements
the way that they are. It's so I really feel
(50:55):
like I'm missing something here. And then Dogstorm goes on, However,
I know for a fact that your journey lies beyond
that position. It's steering towards and Nami says, what do
you mean?
Speaker 2 (51:10):
And there's this.
Speaker 1 (51:12):
Very dramatic like camera swoop and zooms in on her
eye and she's sweating, and it's really like illustrated in
such a way as to be a moment of huge revelation.
And I was just watching this like I feel like
I am supposed to be having a reaction to all
of this that I am not having, and I don't understand. So,
(51:35):
Dongstrom says, usually when they reach the end of the trails,
they have a bit of a revelation. They arrive at
a truth about the ancient writing it inscribed on the
ponyglyphs and the civilization that created them, as well as
the existence of the unseen island Laughtail.
Speaker 2 (51:59):
And let's see.
Speaker 1 (52:02):
Dogstrom says, when Roger reached that point, he had to
start his adventure anew and it fades to present and
he says, the crocus you mentioned was also a part
of the pirate King's crew. He was a real know
it all type. He would not tell a lie unless
he wasn't fond of someone. The location you'll find at
(52:24):
the end of the path is the Laftail, the Fabled Isle.
It's the final destination of the grand line. In fact,
this is a flashback, it's the very existence. Let us.
He's the only person who made it there. And Nami says,
so it's not at the end of the route, but
beyond it. And Nami says, so from the start we've
(52:47):
been on a journey.
Speaker 2 (52:49):
Beyond any path.
Speaker 1 (52:52):
And again really slow pan around and then there's a
moment where ever everybody begins to congratulate her, and all
of this is just let's see what is it that
she says at the end here she looks up at dogs.
(53:12):
She's still wearing this purple dress, and I kind of
want her to just stay wearing this forever, to be honest. Okay,
this is it where she says, I get it. So
there really was no need for me to worry in
the first place. We weren't actually falling off course at all.
Until now, I only had a piece of a much
(53:33):
larger puzzle. I so Crocus didn't mislead us. The logs
are correct, and we're well on our way. They're still
leading us toward a converging point. But Laughtail lies past that. Okay,
Florian is in the chat. He says, I could explain
(53:53):
it in detail, but she was questioning what they were saying,
not trusting them. So shocked, but she was just wanting
to make sure that they are on the right track
since the new info conflicted with the old one and
wanted to clarify. Old info followed the pose, new info
follow the ponoglyphs. So everybody was behaving shocked because she
(54:17):
had the nerve to just be like, I'm trying to
get this straight basically, and then all of it be like,
oh yeah, new info followed the ponoglyphs. Well, it's weird
to me that, like nobody was totally sure where the
(54:39):
one piece was really, so the fact that you were
going to have to adjust, like, I don't know, this
just seems so expected to me. I feel like the
way that this is animated is made to make it
seem way more dramatic than it feels like it at all.
(55:01):
And then like him congratulating her for being so sharp,
she's just actually repeating back what they have literally said
to her.
Speaker 2 (55:12):
I don't get like, I'm sorry, guys, I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (55:15):
There's just something about this whole scene that I feel
like I'm supposed to be taking away a point and
it all is not particularly exciting. I don't know, it's
just weird. I like seeing her get praised and for
everybody else to praise her and appreciate her, but I
definitely was personally like, I don't understand what even happened here.
(55:39):
So this episode ends with a cat Viper mentioning that
he wants to get in touch with somebody who was
from the white Beard Pirates the Phoenix, and I really
enjoy in the next episode when Lufy can't remember who
that is and everybody tries to describe the Phoenix to him,
and the only person who successfully gets it into his
(56:01):
head is I think Robin, who says he's the one
who looks like a pineapple, which that would absolutely work
on me. For the record, with the characters in the show,
everybody looks so wild that you would have to like
shorthand it in that way, because how else do you
keep track of people. I kind of like knowing that
Lufy has as hard a time tracking all of the
characters in this show as I do.
Speaker 2 (56:24):
So yeah, this, uh, let's see. Oh right.
Speaker 1 (56:29):
This is when kat Vibrus starts talking about the grudge
war since the fight the Commander and his folks up
and disappeared, and if Marco's still alive, I've got a
good idea where he might be. So let's see if
my hunch is right. And yeah, this is the part
(56:51):
where Lufy is like, wait, who are you talking about?
And we finally get to the bottom of this.
Speaker 2 (56:56):
We'll meet there and prepare for war.
Speaker 1 (56:58):
Agreed, Let's up a vaver card for keenumon as well,
and Lufy is like, all right, it's a plan.
Speaker 2 (57:05):
Let's do this.
Speaker 1 (57:08):
Sorrow says, see, you better not get lost. I posted
a video in the discord and I said, this dog
reminds me of Zorro, and it was this.
Speaker 2 (57:19):
I think it was like a.
Speaker 1 (57:22):
H oh my god, one of those little fluffy ones.
It starts with a pee I can't remember. But it's
looking at the window and it sees a bird and
it's yapping and screaming. And his owner is like, all right,
all right, I'll let you out. You can chase the bird.
And he opens the door and the dog goes to
the complete opposite end of the yard and is like
barking up at the fence there as if that's where
the bird was. It was so Zorro coded you guys,
(57:46):
I was cracking up. Oh my god. So anyway, this
is when all of the minks show up and they're
very excited because they are going to throw a party.
And it's so fun because when people are like why
would you throw a party right now, they're like, because
of this and this and this and this, and there's
all kinds of reasons to be throwing a party actually.
Speaker 2 (58:08):
And it's sort of sweet. I did like this moment, and.
Speaker 1 (58:13):
Loofy is like wanting to jump in of course and eat,
but Nami has to be like, dude, you just had
a feast like the day before yesterday, and your friend
is in trouble.
Speaker 2 (58:27):
So are we gonna head out or what?
Speaker 1 (58:29):
And he's like, wait, I didn't intend for you to
come with me, and she's like, of course I'm coming.
How are you gonna sing out without a navigator? And
then uh, oh my god, I'm so sorry. She says, yeah,
tell me, can't you loufy? And then Chopper loufy me too.
(58:50):
Peckham's is severely injured. He needs a doctor, and Peckham's like,
he does his whole thing about what Peckhams is and
isn't allowed to do it's very strict regimen.
Speaker 2 (59:00):
Brook wants to.
Speaker 1 (59:02):
Come so that he can sing to them and soothe
their souls and you know, help them out if they're
ever starting to get down, and Nomy says, I think
we'll be fine without you.
Speaker 2 (59:15):
But Brooke says, both.
Speaker 1 (59:17):
Of us allowed Sony to be escorted away, so how
am I supposed to cope?
Speaker 2 (59:22):
This is not fair?
Speaker 1 (59:24):
And Lufy asks Kinemon if this is okay, But Kinimon.
Speaker 2 (59:30):
Is like, bro you are you're their boss.
Speaker 1 (59:33):
Why would I tell you that you can't take them
with you? Of course you can. And also I wish
I could fucking go, but you know, like we got
to do things in the way that we have to.
It just sucks because I know that I owe Sonji
as well, and so not going to his rescue makes
me feel kind of shitty. But Frankie chimes in and says, look,
(59:57):
if we add any more people to this re mission,
it's going to get too sloppy. So that's the limit
I think of everybody.
Speaker 2 (01:00:06):
You should take with you.
Speaker 1 (01:00:07):
Bust the wedding, get him out of there and come home,
and we will be all set.
Speaker 2 (01:00:11):
It'll be great, and just.
Speaker 1 (01:00:14):
As we are, like all right, it's about to go on.
There is a huge ripple through the water. We hear
something like trembling cat vipers. Fur stands up, and they
begin to realize that they are underattack, and it is
this poor elephant who is being targeted, and I hated
(01:00:36):
it so much. The elephant's name is Zunesha, which has
not been mentioned up to now, I don't think, but yeah,
and then we have Lufy and Momo both hearing words
and not knowing where they're coming from or who is
(01:00:57):
talking or anything, so we will have to see what
this is about. I'm assuming it's the elephant, but I
don't know why they're the only ones who can hear it,
So that's what I'm curious about.
Speaker 2 (01:01:12):
So all right, I'm excited.
Speaker 1 (01:01:14):
Like I said, I think the exposition isn't done like
super well, and I think that can be.
Speaker 2 (01:01:20):
But I also.
Speaker 1 (01:01:23):
Like that we have things set in place for us
to move into the next part of the story, depending
of course, on how things work out here, so we'll see.
And yeah, I just really really want to save Sonjy.
I really want to get that on the road, So
let's save Zanesha and hurry it up, all right. Telling
(01:01:45):
the show. To hurry is just it's a failing proposition.
I shouldn't bother, all right, guys, Well, thank you all
for joining me, Thank you Florian for commissioning this and
being in the chat. I really appreciate you. And until
next time to Lou motherfuckers. That was an unspoiled network.
Speaker 2 (01:02:31):
Pat
