Speaker 1 (00:02):
This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me,
covering one piece episodes seven eighty nine through seven ninety one,
The Capital City Falls, Big Mom and Jimbay, the Emperor's Castle,
(00:24):
arriving at the hole Cake Island, and a mysterious forest
full of candies Loofy versus Loofy. In these episodes, we
get to explore some more of these wild islands. We
get to run into fish that are they look like fruit,
(00:45):
they're actually fish, but then they seem to actually be
fruit in the end anyway, and Jimbay is here, and
I honestly can't decide how I feel about this. I
wasn't expecting to see him in this timeline.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Welcome to spoil Me, Welcome to.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
The show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you very much
to Florian for commissioning this episode. I don't think Florian
is here in the chat today, which is unusual. But Florian,
if you're out there listening, we miss you. I have
Seraphim here with me today though, so Hi Saraphem. So
this section is really really wild, guys. There are some
(01:43):
I'm just never going to get tired of this esthetic
when we land on like the Candy Island. I mean,
come on, it just doesn't get much better than it's
like Hanseling Brettel, but a whole island. Absolutely, And then
there's this weird thing living there, and I don't know
what to because, you know, we see what looks like
(02:06):
Soanjy and then eventually we see what looks like Loofy,
and I was thinking at that point, Okay, so this
is a weird creature that imitates other people. So it
was imitating Soanjy and now it's imitating Loofy. But later
on we actually see the sany looking person walking away
(02:28):
smirking to themselves, so and we see them while Loofy
is fighting himself. So it seems like those are distinct
different beings. And honestly, I don't know if it's just
that there's more than one of these creatures on this island,
if they are just shape shifters. It's sort of odd though, because,
(02:50):
like a lot of times, when you run into a
plotline that has shape shifters in it, what you get
is a trickster type of character who is trying to
get something out of the rest of the people that
know this person. They're trying to maybe cause trouble, or
they're trying to access something that only this person would
(03:11):
have access to. And so far, the thing that Lufy
is fighting it seems like just is straight up copying him,
with no further motive that I can see. And it's
possible that we just don't know what that motive is yet.
It's also possible that like it's distracting him so that
(03:32):
something can be done to his crewmates potentially, you know,
I don't know, but it just didn't go the way
that I was expecting it to go. And if this
is a whole island of like beings who can imitate
other people, like how did they imitate Soanjy? Because I
thought that he was in a different area, And where
(03:55):
did they get like the template for him? Or were
they ordered to imitate him? Because somebody is aware that
Lufy is coming for Soanji, and so they're like, oh,
I know, we'll send him on a wild goose chase
in this direction. He's going to think he's heading after
Sanji and it actually won't be at all. You know,
is it possible that there's nothing magical about the person
(04:17):
who looks like Sony and actually it's just maybe a
relative of Soanji who looks enough like him that if
we like do his hair a certain way and put
him in a suit, we get somebody who looks close
enough that our friends can't tell from far away. I
also thought it was funny that this Sanji is sucking
on a lollipop, which is definitely like a reference to
(04:39):
the kid friendly version of him. I you know, that
was a fun little thing that I don't think I
would have known about if my husband hadn't explained to
me about how the smoking was not allowed. And honestly,
I'm not even like mad about the fact that smoking
isn't allowed. It's like it makes sense. But I also,
(05:02):
you know, if it's already in there, just fucking leave it.
What are you doing? All right? But let's begin at
the beginning. So the capital city falls and this is
more of Big Mom's rampage. I said in the last
(05:23):
episode that Big Mom is acting the way that I
do when I'm on my period and I'm craving something.
And I really stand by that because there's a point
where she like tastes something and she just goes, that's
not the right flavor. And I was just like, oh, man, Yeah,
like you try and satisfy the craving that you have
with something that's like close but not quite, and you know,
(05:48):
sometimes that works. Sometimes you are able to like get
close enough even though you can't get a hold of
the actual thing, and it just sort of scratches the
edge and you're done. But there are those times where
it's like the sort of thing that I often think
of is when you're on a diet and you think,
(06:10):
I really want chocolate cake, but I can't have chocolate cake,
so let me try something like that, and you make
like a diet version, and you wind up eating the
whole thing that you made because it wasn't satisfying that craving,
and probably you end up consuming more calories than you
(06:30):
would have had you just let yourself have a reasonably
sized slice of chocolate cake. Not that Big Mom is
worried about calories at all, so she's a There's there's
an addition to this part of the universe, guys that
(06:54):
I'm not a big fan of, and I'm really curious about,
like how often this is going to turn out to
be a thing, the crookum bouche that eventually I'm getting
ahead of myself a little bit, but Jimbay shows up
with this thing had that every single individual little cream
(07:17):
puff on this thing is sentient and alive and has
a face on it. And later on we have like
big moms sitting down in her throne room to talk
to Jimbae and do this negotiation, and the little like
(07:37):
pettyfour cakes that she's eating all have faces on them
as well. I you, guys, I don't like this development
at all. We're really like in the territory of animals
that are being used by some nefarious character. It's desserts.
(08:02):
So it's not as bad because they don't have cute
little animal like bodies, but it still seems like they
kind of don't want to be eaten. You know, I
was enjoying Shippy Shippye because it seemed like, ah, here's
somebody loves his job. You know, here's a ship that
likes to be a ship, and a door that loves
(08:24):
to be a door, and a carpet that loves to
be a carpet. But then in this it seems like
we've got desserts that wish they weren't and it seems
like this is only really happening when we've got big
(08:46):
mom in the picture, and she's the one that's about
to eat them. So it's distinctly possible that it's just
sort of meant to like make her more repulsive somehow
and just really be like a commentary on her character.
But if so, it's not quite landing for me, you
(09:11):
know what I mean. I think it's just like, I
think that's what it is, is that it's supposed to be,
because you know, we watched all of her soldiers taking
down these islands and killing people so that they could
get supplies for this party, and then we have her
singing this whole song about how like this is going
to be an amazing party and whether or not it's
(09:34):
blood or raspberry jam, she doesn't care, it still tastes good.
So we had this setting up how ruthless she is
and how single minded she is about getting the thing
that she's after. I don't feel that we needed to
add anthropomorphized. Man. That was hard for me to say
(09:58):
desserts into the mix, do you know what I'm saying?
It just I don't know. It just seems like that
has to be what is being attempted here, though, because
otherwise I can't really think of a reason, and I
I don't know, I'm just curious what you guys all
think of this. So, like, almost the first half of
(10:24):
this episode is just more of Big Mom running around
destroying her city, and eventually her son pops up and
his name is Muscato, which is a dessert wine for
those who did not know, and people are telling him
to get out of the way because she's going to
(10:44):
kill you, and honestly, Moscato is like showing some real
backbone here and being like, get out of the way
and just let her destroy the entire city.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
No, I'm not fucking doing that. And I was like,
you know what, good.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
For you, buddy. But then it turns out that Big
Mom has an ability that nobody has mentioned, or if
it has been mentioned, I don't remember it. I'll say
that she is able to steal years of your life
(11:21):
away from you, and she steals twenty years from Moscato.
It's a weird the way that it's animated. It's like
his there's like a mist that sort of forms and
swirls around him, and it reminded me of hocus Pocus
(11:43):
and the way the witches feed, you know, the little
girl a bit of their brew and then they can
just slurp the life off of her. I don't like
Scatcho didn't seem old enough to me to die as
(12:05):
a result of this. I thought, you know, I thought
that what we were going to see she pulls twenty
years off him, that it was going to be he
aged in front of us, and instead it seems like
he drops dead, and uh, yeah, I don't know. I'm
just surprised by it because he looked like he was
(12:28):
maybe thirty.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
You know.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
Saraphim says, I just saw it as an extension of
everything around her coming to life. Well, but Jimbay is
coming to her with the crocam bush and it's already
alive when it's on his surfboard. I'm not sure if
it is a surfboard, but I'm kind of calling it
that because that's how I imagine it. So is it
(12:56):
supposed to be that like even when things are fun
away from her, this happens. Or is it that it's
like if anything that is made on the island that
she owns, you know, I don't know, I or is
(13:17):
it like the chefs that were working on it have
the power to do this because of her proximity. I'm
asking a lot of questions here that, like, I'm not
sure that there's actually an answer. I don't know how
much anybody really cared about this other than me, and
that's fine, but it is just noticeable to me that
(13:43):
everything's got little faces on it all of a sudden,
and maybe Saraphim says, just keep watching. The whole life
force thing gets explained later and this might make more sense, Okay,
I trust you. Anyway, the way that Jimby decides to
(14:03):
handle this is he literally just like chucks the Krokum
bouche at her and it lands in her mouth and
it's like stuffing a pacifier into a child's mouth and
just quiets her down. And immediately she's got that swirl
(14:24):
in her eyes to indicate that she is not in
her right mind. And as she begins to chew and realizes, oh,
this is the krokum bush. This is the thing I
was after, she is covered in sparkles for a moment
and then falls over and says, now that is yummy,
(14:46):
and her eyes close and finally when she opens them again,
they're back to normal. Oh okay, guys, I just saw
I just saw I missed it somehow that the krokuambush
the little cream puffs as they're going down her throat.
One of them says, if I'm delicious, then I can
die happy. And I feel much better about it now
(15:10):
that I saw that. I somehow missed it. I watched
this section twice too, but somehow I miss that. I
think maybe it was simply when she begins to open
her mouth with food still in it. I was so
grossed out by it that I just looked away from
the screen instinctively, so I think that's why I missed it.
But it seems like the desserts are resigned to their
(15:32):
fate as long as they did the things, So okay, cool,
I'm fine with that. And let's see, I'm trying to
see they have to work on getting the capital restored
in time for the wedding because she has done so
much damage, walking through everything like she's fucking Godzilla. And
(15:55):
then she looks down at Jimbay and it turns out
what he is here for is he is looking to
be released from a vow he made to Big Mom,
like proposing his loyalty to her. And it's sort of
(16:23):
interesting because, like I he's he I think what it
is is that he's doing everything very by the book,
and I just wasn't really like prepared for him to
follow the rules so much I expected him to. Just
if I feel like going off with the straw hats
and being loyal to Loofy, then That's what I'm gonna
(16:45):
fucking do. But he's very aware of like, I made
a promise and I'm going to only back out of
it if she actually allows me to do that, and
spoiler alert, she will allow him to do that, like technically,
but he has to pay such a price for it
(17:08):
that it's like on the table by the time this
section ends whether or not he actually survives, and that sucks.
There's a roulette wheel that he has to spin that
has like different options for things he could lose between
(17:28):
a leg or an arm or his head, and then
there's like one section that's got a crowned head on it,
which I'm assuming is like you get out of it
and you don't wind up having to pay a price
at all, But it's certainly the minority in terms of
the options on the roulette wheel. It is not like
you are more likely to get away with it, and
(17:53):
there is another character that we wind up touching base with.
So he talked to his own crew, jimbe Did, about
how he wanted to join up with the Straw Hats,
and evidently he had talked so much about Lufy that
(18:15):
when he comes to them asking would you guys be
cool with it? If everybody is just sort of like, yeah, dude,
we kind of saw this coming. You talked NonStop about
this guy. And he's like, oh my god, did I
really And there's a character I feel like we've seen
(18:36):
him before, Aladdin, and he is evidently married to one
of Big Mom's family. She is a hammerhead shark type character.
I'm trying to remember what her first name is.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
But it's odd.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
Because she seems like it's like she's a bully, but
also that she actually likes Aladdin her husband. So it's
sort of like she's very scary and unpredictable and he
is uncomfortable with her, but that like, for the most part,
it works in his favor because she does seem to
(19:20):
like have some kind of real affection toward him. And
this it's just weird because everybody acts very afraid of her,
but she doesn't wind up like getting violent in this section,
and there is something like very triggering to me about
a character who doesn't overtly get violent, but it's clear
everybody around them is expecting them to bust into violence
(19:42):
at any moment. I always just hate that. So we
shall see what's going on with her eventually, maybe in
more detail. I don't know if it's going to be
in this arc or not. Sorry, Seraphim says Jim but
has a lot of yakuza theming to him, so he
(20:03):
will follow a code like this when it's not entirely unreasonable.
He was one of the og Sun pirates who Fish
or Tiger freed from Mariegeois. Shark Lady is Charlotte Praylean,
pray Lean right, right right, because I remember thinking it
was something like crunchy okay, Prailline is a caramelized like
(20:24):
hard candy. Thank you, Sarah him. So, yeah, I just
found this very funny that Jimbei is like, hey, guys,
I know that it might come as a shock, but
I'm going to do this thing, and everybody is like,
it's not. It's not a shock to literally anybody. We
fucking saw this coming a mile away. And the fact
(20:46):
that he just talked about Loufy that much when Lufy
is so young. It's just I know that this is
something that has to happen, that there are going to
be people who are older than a certain person who's
a real up and comer in some regard, and they
are going to throw their lot in with that person
(21:08):
and support them. I know that that's how things work,
but it is just so odd to me to see
like an elder who is very accomplished in their own
right really fucking like going to the mattress for a
younger newbie type character. And I'm not mad at it,
(21:32):
just for the record, like that is totally fine, but
I do find it funny because it's like he's got
a loofy. He's got like a fandom out there that
just spans generations, it turns out. So let's see, I'm
trying to make sure that I cover everything here because
(21:54):
like this first episode, okay, let's talk about these these fruits,
because we're sort of all over the place here with
this the these fruits guys. So we're on the water.
Our friends have come across several different colors of water. Now,
last episode, we saw what looked like grape juice, and
(22:17):
then this episode we've got like different colors of juice,
and there's this point and I want to actually like
expand my screen here and see if I can get
this to like show if I can screenshot it, because
certain streaming services, if you attempt to screenshot something, it
(22:43):
will block it and you only get like a black square.
But there is an overhead shot of all of the
different juices in the ocean mixing together that is really beautiful. Actually,
I really loved it, and it was the sort of
thing that I was like that could make a really
(23:04):
nice like desktop, you know, And this is it's nobody
asks this question, and it's fine, but it does make
me wonder, like did these fish make the water look
(23:26):
like this? Like I know it's supposed to be that
all of this comes from what do you call it,
the actual islands themselves, but how did these fish come
to be? Because it's like that they formulated out of
the juice, like there was some sort of evolutionary thing
(23:48):
and fish that existed that happened to swim through this
water eventually took on the characteristics of the fruit whose
juice was in the water. And it's just kind of
a fastating concept to me. So what they what they
wind up seeing is giant versions of each of these
(24:11):
fruits that the juice is out to sea, just far
enough away that it's like you can only see, Oh yeah,
there's a peach. There's an orange, there's a watermelon. And Lufy,
as he is wont to do, instantly sees these and
(24:31):
is just like, oh bet, I'm gonna have something to eat,
grabs the watermelon. Pedro is trying to tell him, hey, no,
don't come back, but it's already airborne because Lufy has,
you know, his his rubber power. He has grabbed the
(24:51):
thing and it's in the air, hovering over him when
su its mouth opens and it just dives first like
it's mouth first onto Loofy, and I think Chopper yells
(25:13):
something about our dinner et Loofy something like that. And
this was very funny to me. I really enjoyed this.
Now what ends up happening is, of course Loufy is
able to get out of this and beat it, and
he kills the other ones too, and then cuts them up,
and they look just like giant slices of that fruit.
And Nami is seemingly like really sickened by this. It
(25:37):
seems like it bothers her a lot that these are
fish that they're conflating with fruit, which, to be honest,
I didn't really understand because like, even if they are fish,
you eat fish, you don't have a problem with that,
and you'll eat fish that are cooked with fruit. So
(26:00):
why don't you want to try this? You know what
I'm saying. I just kind of felt like it doesn't
seem that unreasonable to me. Just go for it. What's
the problem. She's just acting like it's nauseating to her somehow,
and I was not getting it at all. The whole
(26:21):
thing I think is really just meant to be NAMMI
stands very much outside of the desire for food, where
every not everybody else. It's like Pedro isn't affected by it. Really.
Brooke seems interested, but isn't as gung ho, and he's
(26:43):
not diving in head first the way the others are.
He does want some of the fruit, but Lufy is
eating it too fast for him to get to it.
But it's really like Pedro, it seems to me, isn't
super invested because he's been here before, and I think
that it's lost a lot of its charm for him
(27:03):
and Brooke, I think is just more cautious and also
doesn't need to eat the same way they do. It
doesn't seem like not me. It feels much more like
you guys are being so ridiculous that somebody here has
to keep a clear head, you know. It seems like
it's sort of a matter of principle with her, And
(27:27):
we see this later on when they finally wind up
landing on the Candy Island as well. So let's see
him jumping ahead here because I want to make sure
that I don't run out of time, because honestly, I'm
a half hour in here and this is just bonkers.
So sorry, guys. I tried doing the screenshot of all
(27:52):
of the different juices mixing together. It's such a great shot, guys,
because the camera pulls way out, so you've got like
the colors, and then you have in the middle the
going Mary, not the going Mary, Oh my god, the
thousand Sunny and it's just kind of small in the
center of all of these colors, and it almost looks
like a galaxy. And I my screenshot was just black,
(28:18):
and I'm so disappointed. I'm sure that somewhere out there
you can find somebody you know took a still of this,
but uh, I can't look for it because I could
be spoiled, so I don't want to risk it. All right,
let's see, I'm gonna go back to I feel like
I've pretty much talked about the whole thing with Jimbay
(28:38):
because he takes up most of the second the first
half of the second episode. Uh, and it's Prayleing who
he talks to you about, like whether or not it's
likely he's going to be let out of his contract,
and Praileing says that other people have gone into the
negotiations before, but they're all dead, so she can't tell
(29:04):
him exactly how it works or like how it went
with all of them, but you can guess. And it
ends with Big Mom being like, all right, you've got
to spin the fucking thing, and we don't actually see
him do it, so we don't get the what do
(29:24):
you call it, the resolution on this. So then we
go back to our friends on the ship and there's
apparently this syrup that is hardening on the surface of
the water and has made it so that the ship
(29:47):
can't get through, as if they are stuck in ice basically,
And this is such a weird scene because it's like
we don't actually see the ship get stuck. We just
come upon them when the ship has been stuck. And
(30:07):
I was expecting if we were going to have a
moment like this, it would be this big moment of
drama where we watched the ship approaching some unknown substance
on the water and everybody wondering what's going on, and
then the ship gets stuck and oh no, these ants,
(30:28):
you know. And it's sort of odd the way that
this is done because we're just here when they've already
dealt with some of the problem and the ants have
been like made to fall asleep and they're going to
wake up. So like we do wind up dealing with
the ants as a threat a little bit later, but
for now they're sort of handled. And then Page Rome
(30:51):
starts talking about how he wound up in this situation
once himself when he was a pirate, and he doesn't
really want to talk about it. And I was sort
of thinking, maybe the reason that we don't have them
approaching this and like, you know, going, what is that
out there? Maybe there's no way to write that in
(31:12):
a way that makes sense with Pedro having already experienced it.
If without him, like why wouldn't he tell them what
it is and find a way to go around it
or warn them or something, you know. I don't know,
maybe that was part of like the difficulty there is
if he's already got experience in the thing, they it
(31:34):
like this, them getting stuck like this couldn't really happen
the same way. But I don't know, I don't know,
it's possible that uh you know, it was just for
the sake of speeding things up to get to this
next island. It's just you know, this show isn't known
for its desire to speed things up. I'll just say that.
(31:56):
So that's what strikes me, I think as particularly surprising
is we have very much got an opportunity here to
like slow things down, and it would be completely excusable,
and we're not taking it. I am not used to
that at all. And these ants it's so fun because like,
(32:18):
you know, Sarah, and I think you were the one
who mentioned about how the candy like the chocolate river
and how would that work and everything, and I was like,
we're just going to ignore all of the difficulties that
would be involved in that. And one of the things
that popped to mind for me first was it's a
ant problem. You're gonna have flies sticking to everything and
(32:42):
to be hideous, and the fact that there are actual
like ants who are baddies that are like a major
problem is very fun. I should have seen it coming, honestly,
I should have known that we were going to do
something like this. And the ants, I think it's simply
(33:02):
because there are so many of them. But like, there
are plenty of creatures that we have run into on
the ocean and on the land that you know, they're
very intimidating looking, but they don't really inspire the kind
of like concern for the crew that these ants did.
(33:25):
You guys, these ants, I think it's just sheer numbers.
I really think that's what it is. It just got
under my skin, you know, this feeling of like there
are too many of them, You guys do not stand
a chance. Just fucking get out of there. And really
that's what they wind up having to do, because it's
like there's no way that they are going to be
(33:47):
able to manage.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
All of these things.
Speaker 1 (33:51):
Anyway. So the whole thing with like Pedro he used
to be a pirate with Peckhams, which he has never
mentioned to any of them, and Carrott just sort of
blurts it out. Petro says, I thought of myself as
a grand explorer, but I was really naive and I
(34:14):
wound up as a wanted man, and I only accompanied
Peckham's halfway. I wanted to help Master cat Viper, so
I was scouring these waters for ponoglyphs, and when I
trespassed in Big Mom's territory, it became my last voyage.
(34:35):
So I'm he wanted to come with them, I guess
because he's got like a particular grudge against Big Mom
and he has a vested interest in this ponoglyphs thing.
But he ends this by saying, like I faced a
(34:58):
devastating defeat here and everybody. This is something that I
always like take issue with, is a person can say
something really really vague and everybody around them has a
specific reaction as if they said something that like, as
(35:21):
if they said something particularly awful and devastating, And just
saying I faced a defeat here isn't telling me anything.
Is that a personal defeat where you with people and
they were killed who came at you specifically, because I'm
going to guess it wasn't like Big Mom is coming
(35:42):
down out of her castle to fight you herself. So
there's just a lot of details here that nobody even
asks about or seems like curious about. And I was
just you know, and Nami says, you have bad memories,
but you still came back, and I was like, is
nobody who to actually ask him anything further?
Speaker 2 (36:03):
You know?
Speaker 1 (36:06):
And he says, and it will all be worth it
if you can rescue Sanji. Besides, this might be a
chance to rectify my failure from last time. I heard
that you went to the Whale Tree and that our
kings showed you the road opponent glyph there. That was
quite a surprise. I'll put it this way. No one
(36:28):
outside the Kozugi clan has seen that place in nearly
twenty six years, specifically since they showed it to gold
d Roger and his crew, and after that he sailed
to Laughtail and earned the title King of the Pirates.
In other words, Duke dog Storm and Master cat Viper
(36:51):
think you have the same qualities that Roger possessed. And
I liked this. You know, the fact that this is
like a big reveal that they weren't just sharing information
that they share with anybody. This is something that's gate
kept and somehow Lufy's able to show them some personality
(37:14):
trait that really makes it clear. Hey, I think this
kid might might got the right stuff. And Pedro says like,
once you defeat Kaido, what is your plan? And Lufi
is just like, oh God, I don't know. I haven't
thought that far ahead. And I was like, yeah, Pedro,
I don't know how much you've seen of Loofy, but
(37:38):
I feel like it should be pretty clear by now.
Bruh is not a think ahead type at all, but yeah,
So Pedro's like, you're going to need Big Mom's ponent glyphs.
Since we're this far into her territory, it might be
your best, if not only, opportunity to find it. So
in addition to taking back Sanji, we should say steel
(38:00):
Big Mom's road pony glyph as well. And Nami is like, uh,
can we even do that? Which you know there had
been the mention they're way too big, so I'm assuming
that what he means is like, take a rubbing of
all of the symbols on it, or something like that.
(38:21):
Chopper himself is like, I mean, getting Sanji backs seems
like it's hard enough already. Do we need to add
this on top of it? And Lufy says, essentially, Sonjy
is our first priority. So Pedro says, okay, you know what,
that's fair. You go ahead and focus on him, and
(38:43):
if you can buy me some time, I will go
after the pony glyph on your behalf. And at first
Lufy tries to be like, I can't allow you to
do that. We're supposed to all work together, you know,
we're a team, and Pedro's says, rescuing him is really
only the beginning. I will be fine. I just let
(39:07):
me do this, and Lufy says, all right, you know what,
go ahead, and Namy is genuinely startled and says, well,
shouldn't we talk this through a little bit further? And
it's a it's sort of odd because like Brooke says
something like, did things only work out for Loofy because
(39:29):
he was born under a lucky star? And Lufy usually
kind of puts his foot down more about working with
people and like staying paying them back when they have
done a favor for him. I was surprised at how
quickly he capitulated. I was surprised that Nami had an
issue with this, and Brooke being like everything works out
(39:54):
for Loofy in response to this didn't. This didn't feel
like it felt like he was counting his chickens, you
know what I mean. I was sort of like, there's
he's not lucky yet, dude. If anything, your ship is
stuck in sugar syrup right now. But there was a
(40:15):
sweet moment when he says like, maybe he's lucky, and
Lufy says, what did you say, Brooke, And he says
nothing and then says I'm lucky myself. And I did
like that of just being like, you know what, I
should count my blessings too, It was cute. This is
when the ants all wake up and begin to come
at the ship. And these ants look straight out of
(40:40):
like a Halloween children's book or something. They're very cute
in a weird way, but also horrible. And when the
camera pulls back and you see just how many of
them there are, it is truly upsetting. I mean, my god.
So then we go to the next episode, a mysterious
(41:03):
forest full of candies. Loofy versus Loofy, and we see
the ship pulling up to this island that looks like
a bunch of cakes stacked on top of each other,
with like icing pouring down the sides. They it's snow.
I'm assuming that is actually sugar, so I think it does.
(41:26):
It's not just that it looks like frosting. I think
that it actually is. And uh, they send out the
what do you call it? Channel three? Is what it's
called the Shark submerge Channel three is. That's a weird
name for it. I have to assume that this is
(41:48):
sort of like a translation thing. But it's Brooke and
Paedro that are on the submarine, and so this is
going to be how they wind up sneaky into the territory.
Pedro and I will take care of the mission, so
don't you worry now. I think that having these two
(42:13):
who are both good fighters go together. And Loofy is
left with Nami, who's sure she has her weather power thing,
but is she's not really a fighter and she does
tend to panic. We've got Carrot, who is frankly untested.
I haven't really gotten to see her in action very much.
(42:37):
And we have Chopper, who you guys know, I love,
but like he has pretty severe limitations on what he
can do a lot of the time. This just didn't
seem like the right call to let Brooke go off
with this. Dude, I didn't care for this. I don't
think this is a good idea. So anyway, yeah, I
(43:00):
do enjoy like the two of them teamed up, and
I'm curious how this is going to go, but I wasn't.
I felt like I would rather Gna Me go with
Pedro or maybe Carrot, have the two minks go together,
(43:21):
you know it just ah, so anyway, it doesn't matter.
And Brooke says infiltration is somewhat of a specialty of mine,
and he projects those that ghost out of himself that
like spooky, you know, And I guess that counts as infiltration,
(43:46):
I suppose. But yeah, I suppose, because it can go
like pretty far away from him, right, I'm trying to
think when we saw it come to communicate before, he
was like y yards and yards off from it. So
I suppose that works. Anyway. Everybody says good luck, and
(44:08):
I think Chopper actually has the exact line. Have fun
storming the castle, which is straight out of Princess bride,
they take off, we get to see a little bit
of them underwater, and then we go back to our friends,
who it's such an a kind of it's a moment
(44:29):
of like I'm not sure whether to trust Loofy or not,
but then you get confirmation a little bit later, and
I appreciated that. Nami, even though she doesn't see it
herself pretty quickly, like turns a corner later and is like, oh, okay,
I haven't seen it, but everybody is saying it, so
they must have seen something. And this is when they
(44:51):
spot what seems to be Sanjy standing very close to
the shore of this island under a tree, and he
looks at them and makes eye contact and seems to
want to be seen, and then turns and runs away
into the forest, and Loofy chases after him, of course,
(45:15):
without a second thought, because that is just how he do.
Nam when Lufy's explanation for this is like maybe he's
playing a game, and I was like, yeah, that sounds likely,
and Namy herself is just like what, but she runs
after them as well, because like what else are you
going to do? You can't let them go out there alone,
(45:37):
and the like hold Chase. I am thinking this thing
is going to be leading them into some sort of
trap or something, and like, probably that's still true, but
it hasn't. It doesn't happen the way that I was expecting,
(45:58):
And I think some of it is that left over
paranoia from the whole thing about Hansel and Gretel. Is
that the little kids see this house made of candy.
They've been abandoned in the woods, and so they haven't
(46:20):
eaten in days, and they run up to the house
and eat from it without really thinking, and then are
captured by this witch in payment for them eating her house.
And I think that's sort of what I thought was
going to wind up happening here, is that this thing
is luring them into the forest and then when they
(46:41):
eat something is going to jump out at them or
accuse them of stealing. You know, I thought that it
was going to be along those same lines, and it
doesn't go that way at all. And eventually, you know,
Lufy is Lufy, Kara and Chopper are all looking around
(47:06):
at this place that's filled with candy and being like,
oh yeah, let me go search for Soanji in that direction,
and it's very clear it's just we want to go
in the direction of which dessert looks the best to us.
And meanwhile, Mammy, who's the only one who's really focused here,
she's kind of looking around herself like that feeling that
(47:28):
you get when you know you're being watched, even though
you can't see the person who's doing the watching, And
she's telling all of them like, you guys have really
got to stay on task here because who knows what's
going on? And it could be that maybe Lufy is
just feeling a little embarrassed about, you know, the fact
(47:50):
that I don't know. But anyway, at this point, they
come to a river. I don't know what the is
made out of, if it's just water or if there's
something else to it, but the shore of the river
is lined with what looked like either pancakes or like
(48:11):
cinnamon rolls covered in icing. The bridge that covers that,
oh here, the river is melon juice, right right right,
I forgot. Chopper says that the bridge that spans the
river is made out of doughnuts, which I really really
(48:32):
love that. I thought that was a very cool visual.
And as they're sitting there, we see a shadow that's
coming up out of the river and of course, here
I go thinking, oh, this is the trap. Finally it's
been sprung the thing that I was expecting, which is
they have all been lured into the forest with the
(48:53):
promise of delicious treats. Now the monster who set this
all up is going to finally come at them. And
it's a very dramatic moment of it doesn't just come
up out of the water. It comes up jaws first,
like it's in a horror movie to clamp over that donut.
(49:15):
And all I could think was like, you're really ruining
the infrastructure here, buddy, who put that donut in place? Like,
I don't know, But it clamps down on the donut,
and it's a very fun little moment of everybody understandably
assuming that this giant ass crocodile is here to kill
(49:39):
all of them. And there's this long pause as they
all put up their dukes. Basically they're ready to fight
if they need to, and then the alligator looks at
them while he's chewing and says, too bad, just humans,
(50:00):
and he walks away, and Lufy gets mad because he's like, oh,
so we're not good enough for you to eat, which
is hilarious. And then Nami says, the issue here is
we've got a talking crocodile wearing a hat. I knew
this place was dangerous and weird, And Loofy says, but
(50:20):
we've got talking animals with hats right here, you guys,
that that line really made me laugh. Just it was
just Loofy isn't usually the one to point this stuff out.
It's almost never him who's the voice of reason in
(50:41):
a given scene, you know what I'm saying. So for
him to be the one that's like, nommy, why are
you even worried about? You know what I mean? I
was delighted to see this. Actually it seems like real
growth for him. But uh yeah, this thing with this alligator,
(51:02):
I mean, not only is he wearing a hat, he's
got like what I think are suspenders on because he's
walking away and there's a sort of X over his back,
so I think that's meant to be suspenders. I want
to know what the deal is with this crocodile. And
he also isn't like green the way that we've seen
other ones be before. He's sort of this like pale
(51:22):
blue anyway, So all of them that you know, they're
looking around trying to decide what to do next, and
Nami says, okay, we made a deal with Pudding that
she is going to come to the shoreline and bring
Sanji with her for us to take him away with us.
(51:46):
And she hasn't led us wrong yet. She hasn't, you know,
Like she seems to be doing all of this in
good faith. So I think that we should just go
back to the ship and trust her, because I think
this forest is bad news. And of course everybody is like,
(52:06):
how can you say that it's candy? It's literally wonderful.
How could any of this be wrong? And just as
they're defending it, she turns around and she sees another
Loofy standing there, and it's not like he's standing there
(52:27):
if it's weird, because like, again, what my expectation would
be when you're dealing with a double is that it
tries to trick them into thinking it's the real Loofy.
But this isn't doing that. It's facing Loofy down in
front of everybody, very obviously making it clear which one
(52:51):
is the real one and which one isn't. And eventually
Chopper points out that it's like a mirror image that
it isn't identical to Lou because it's accessories are on
the opposite side, it's scar is backward. Everything about it
is a reflection, and so if you're really paying attention,
(53:12):
you can tell which is which. But uh so I
kind of appreciated that that it's not an identical copy.
It's a mirror image, which is definitely very different. And
I'm wondering if this is actually a creature or if
it's a spell of some kind, you know, like I
don't know. And again, like it's not really trying to
(53:35):
trick them. It's just fighting Loofy, and every movement Loofy
makes in the fight it mirrors. So every time he
tries to punch it, it punches back at him, and
their fists just wind up blocking each other, and uh
it's it's just really it's a really kind of trippy moment,
(53:57):
you know, the kind of thing that nam wasn't also
seeing this, I would kind of wonder is this a
result of everybody eating the candy? Is there something in
the food of this island that causes you to have hallucinations?
But I don't think Nami's eaten anything, and she sees
(54:19):
this just as much as everybody else. So I guess
that's not it. But yeah, I don't know what to
make of this whole thing again, though, I just love
the design of this entire island. It's so fun, and
I am really curious what the deal is with this
fucking Sanji guy. You know, I have to assume that
(54:44):
this somehow somebody's devil fruit power, but I just don't
know how that would even work. Devil fruit powers frequently
don't work in ways that I would have thought of,
so that doesn't mean it's not it's just I can't
really theorize on that. But yeah, I really did like
these three episodes. It was just, you know, it's so
(55:07):
everything is sort of up in the air at this moment,
and the idea of like Lufy being versus himself is
kind of funny, but I feel like it could only
really be truly interesting to watch if they were able
to actually fight. If it's just mirror image movements and stuff,
then it's probably going to start to get old pretty quickly.
(55:28):
And it's only a distraction for Loufy for right now.
I don't know what else somebody could be trying to
accomplish by doing this, So yeah, all right, well, oh,
I'm sorry there's so much seraphim is in the chat
and I was not seeing it. Lufy, trusts Pedro, and
(55:49):
I think this is another translation issue of the nuance
being lost. The doors on the Sunny are number zero
through four. Each has a different machine in it they
can use. Yeah that I got so Channel four was
what number they had to set the dial to to
select the right doc. Ah. Okay, look, this is one
piece the explanation for why something is the way it
(56:11):
is can generally be assumed to be one of three things.
Devil fruit, hockey, Oda is freaking insane. Yeah that's fair.
All right. Well, I feel like I've said everything I
need to about this section, so I'm a little short
on time, but I go over enough that I think
it's fair, So I'm going to wrap up. I appreciate
(56:31):
everybody listening. I hope you're enjoying the show. Thank you
to Sarah M for joining me, thank you to Florian
for commissioning this one, and until next time to lou motherfuckers.
(57:10):
That was an unspoiled network podcast.
