(00:02):
This is an unspoiled network podcast. This is spoil Me covering what we do
in The Shadows, Season four, episode nine, Freddie in this episode,
(00:22):
I can't believe where this episode goes. I was ready to fucking kill Nandor
and good for you, Guillermo. He finally drew a line in the sand.
Well kind of welcome to spoil me. Welcome to the show, every
(01:00):
one. I am Natasha. Thankyou very much to Max for commissioning this
episode. Oh my god, y'all, this is a wild one. I
can't believe how like pressed I wasat the way things fucking go. It
made me so angry, like Iwas truly in every direction, getting so
(01:26):
pissed on Giermo's behalf that I don'tfeel like I'm over it. I feel
like I'm starting this episode off withbad attitude because of it. But I'm
going to talk about his whole thingafter I've talked about what's going on with
Naja, because let's just get thatout of the way, since Giermo's thing
is honestly, like, way,way more interesting. So we start the
(01:48):
episode off in the cold open beforethe credits, with Naja talking about how
the club is doing super Well,it's like the destination right now in the
Tri State area for vampires. Andshe's talking about how she is the queen
there and she's really enjoying that roleof being the powerful hostess who is admired
(02:12):
but also gets to tell everybody whatto do. And as she is doing
this, we get this really weirdbit. So she has celebrities visiting,
apparently, who do not realize thatany of these people are vampires. I
(02:34):
think they think it's just like acute gimmick for like the type of club.
And everybody here is in costume,I guess, and at this table
looking like such normies. We've gotSophia Coppola in just like a white button
(02:58):
down shirt and any tail. We'vegot Jim Jarmish, a director. I
know I've seen things that he hasdone, but don't put a gun to
my head. And she is likeswanning over to them, like acting extremely
familiar in a way that is is. I think she thinks it's like chummy,
(03:23):
but comes across as just really likecrass. She says, I want
to show the camera my blingering.Oh god, And Jarmish says, Colin
really is performing tonight, right,we're very excited. We've been hearing about
him for weeks, and she assureshim that's happening. But then we get
(03:47):
the lead singer of Phoenix, ThomasMars, and he's like, we have
heard Colin is a complete phenomenon. Then she says something in French. I
think she just says he has acertain genasi quan. He just replies in
French, Oh my god. Sheis not in her element here. So
(04:13):
this is when Sophia says, lookingat the menu, hear what is the
celebrity special? And is it reallyfive thousand dollars? And Naja like,
oh, the Celebrity Special is that'ssomething that you would be interested in?
And Jim says, no, Idon't make that kind of money, although
(04:34):
these two are good to go withit. So Naja says, do I
have any volunteers for the celebrity Special? And a couple of the people like
she chooses this pair. Everybody thatshe hears her immediately puts their hand in
the air. They are super excited, which I've got to say would be
(04:57):
the first thing to make me go, you know what. Never mind,
like it's not even about the particularcrowd. They're surrounded by If I am
ordering something and I don't know whatit actually is, and it suddenly becomes
apparent to me that it involves crowdparticipation, I'm just gonna tap out,
(05:18):
no, thank you. I wouldrather not. I don't want to involve
any other people in my ship whenI'm not fully aware of what the fuck
is about to happen. So Najabrings over a couple of white napkins and
sort of drapes them like they're aboutto eat, but then just let's loose
(05:40):
her vampires who eat both of thesepeople right in front of Jim, who
thinks that this is all special effects, that it's like him being pranked basically,
and he expresses multiple times how incrediblyreal this all looks, and like
(06:01):
at one point, she just yanksSophia Coppola's head off her body and begins
to toss it around the crowd, and he is just like, God,
this is amazing. I could neverafford a gag like this. And for
the rest of it, he islooking for Sophia, calling her, not
(06:21):
sure why she's like not answering hiscalls or calling him back. And here's
my question, guys, how longcan they keep doing this, because you
know, I've been perfectly willing toaccept that we have our randos who come
(06:43):
by after going, you know, meeting somebody in the park, being lured
there by Guillermo whatever, and theydisappear and nobody figures out that this is
where they went because they were mesmerizedand there was nobody aware they were heading
even in this direction. But that'sregular nobodies. Now we're talking about extremely
(07:08):
high profile kills, and I don'tknow what we're getting in terms of follow
up to this particular storyline. Likewe're in the penultimate episode. Next episode's
a final episode of the season, and it seems like we may be setting
(07:29):
things up for our friends to beunder investigation of some kind. And it's
the sort of thing that, like, it's really got a lot of possibilities,
but I cannot decide how I wouldwant this to be played, even
if it were to happen, Likea part of me hesitates to even talk
about how I would like this tobe played because I am so certain the
(07:53):
show isn't going in this direction atall. But then there's a part of
me that sort of like feeling likethey can't they can't just be having them
rip celebrities apart and there's no followup at all. I mean, it's
like a fun gag, but ithas This show doesn't so entirely lack continuity
(08:16):
that I think they would really handleit that way. I don't think,
like, I don't know, maybeI'm wrong about that, but I just
truly keep wondering how much longer theycan go on like this and not have
people put two and two together.Like even if they had killed all of
(08:41):
the celebrities at the table here, that would be one thing. You know,
we've got our whole you know, everybody who was coming here. I'm
assuming they probably have assistance and stuffthat they would tell. But let's suspend
our disbelief and say that nobody knewthey were coming here except each other.
There was not the slightest way totry race them. We could just be
(09:03):
like, all right, well youkill all the witnesses and that's all we've
got. But it's very specifically thatone dude is left alive, and I
have to assume that there's going tobe a storyline that develops about how they
are under investigation somehow, because thereare so many celebrities that have gone to
(09:26):
the club and never come back again. Now when I theorize about how this
would go, and forgive me,because if it turns out we're not doing
anything of the kind, then peoplelistening who have watched ahead are going to
get extremely tired of my conjectures onthis. And I'm once again I'm really
(09:46):
sorry, because I don't want tobore you. If you are fully aware
that's not how any of this isgoing. I don't care what you have
to say about it, Like Isympathize, but I can't help that.
That's part of the show, islike people going off in a certain direction,
guessing about something that ultimately winds uphaving no relevance. You know.
(10:07):
So this is just me going,Okay, if I were going to do
this, how would it go?And you know, it would be very
easy to be like, all right, so it's obviously a vampire themed club.
The cops are going to be like, oh my god, vampires are
real. But they're definitely not goingto do that, So they have to
think something else is going on.Now. Are they going to think it's
(10:31):
like human trafficking? Why would theydo that to celebrities? Are they going
to think it's a hostage situation. Is Jim going to simply not be believed?
That would be a real weird wayto play it. Have him be
like, I have my suspicions, but like I sound crazy and nobody is
going to listen to me say thatI sat and watched Sofia Coppola's head be
(10:54):
ripped off of her body. Likethat's just not Nobody's going to hear that.
So they're just and what do theydo if they came in and they
started searching for something unless they're usinglike luminol, I don't know how much
is still on the present. Thewhat is the word I'm looking for?
(11:16):
Premises that's the one Jesus Christ.Because the wraiths are the ones that are
handling clean up and everything, andthey are extremely efficient. I don't know
what happens to the bodies afterwards,Like I have to assume there is some
magical way that they handle that, but I probably shouldn't assume that. So
(11:39):
anyway, they're all very excited forthis performance before the head ripping part,
and it cuts right from this bloodbath to Nadjet getting a little hey come
over here from Evil Mabel, andwe find out that Laslow, who is
(12:01):
representing Colin Robinson in this scenario, has decided that Colin needs a contract with
better, better terms. He wantssome money because basically his argument is that
it solely due to Colin Robinson thatNaja's club is doing so well. And
(12:28):
it's funny because Naja decides to callhis bluff on this, but we heard
Naja in the intro talking about thatvery thing. Basically, Colin is her
cash cow, but because she doesn'twant to pay anybody anything for their work,
she would rather let Laslow walk outthe door and then just try at
(12:52):
the last second to scramble and filColin Robinson's shoes, which is so I
will tell you what kids, Ihave like really sort of lost hold of
the Naja is the more level headedone in the crew at this point.
This nightclub situation has really completely thrownthe blindfold off. The scales have fallen
(13:20):
from my eyes and I am lookingat her like, bitch, what are
you doing? Like every decision shemakes is made for the most stupid,
spiteful reasons, and she will haveliterally been on camera saying the exact same
thing. But because she doesn't wantto just like spend any money on anything.
(13:41):
I can't. She's so cheap.That's the part that I keep being
kind of surprised by, is likeshe is hoarding all of this money and
is obviously power hungry in this respect, which I do like I have.
This holds up, especially in lightof her and nandor both being given like
(14:05):
joint positions on the Vampiric Council, but then her being the only one who
really took her responsibility seriously or seemedto really care about the title more than
just the prestige of the title alone. So this completely lines up. But
it's really funny how somebody can belike simultaneously riding the high of what their
(14:33):
privileges are in relationship to an institutionand then let that institutions suffer in like
she is enjoying being the queen ofthis place so much, and then let's
go of the reins entirely, andbasically the whole edifice just like completely collapses
(14:58):
by the end of this episode. And you know, I knew we were
going to have to head in thisdirection eventually, because one thing that our
vamps do not do is succeed. They just don't win. It never works.
Like the only one who ever comesclose is lastlow and he even he
(15:20):
then decides to put on a fuckingcursed hat. So, you know,
so I knew that it was goingto have to crash and burn. But
if you had asked me at thebeginning of the season for like what I
thought might specifically happen to cause that, I think that I would have guessed
something happened like that Naja didn't haveany control over, maybe that she like
(15:46):
trusted somebody or one of the guysdid something stupid, or Colin Robinson did
something weird, I don't think,or evil Mabel decided suddenly like I don't
want to be invested in this atall, and maybe sabotaged her or just
quit and the whole thing, youknow, kind of collapsed because she had
been managing a lot of it.I don't think I ever would have guessed
(16:11):
that Nadja's management would be so incompetentthat she would be the cause of the
closure of her own club. AndI don't know why. I just gave
her a lot more credit in termsof like her abilities and her commitment to
this and her understanding of what's likefair and caring about that part of it
(16:34):
at all, And I don't knowif the difference would be, Like when
she's dealing with the Raith and she'sdealing with Colin Robinson, They're neither of
them vampires, So I don't knowif Colin Robinson were a vampire performer,
would she feel differently? Like Iknow that she has more respect for other
(16:56):
vampires than she does for any otherlike species, I guess, but I
don't know if that would really changeanything. I think that she is just
grasping because, like, you know, if anybody should be able to get
her to get past that, itwould be her husband that she loves,
laslow On behalf of Colin Robinson, and it seems like, if anything,
(17:19):
the fact that it's laslo makes itworse, you know. So Yeah,
Anyway, this whole thing, likeshe winds up. Her and Evil Mabel
have to pull something together at thelast second. Once she decides that she's
going to dig her heels in andnot pay Colin, so she goes and
(17:42):
finds a really bizarre performance. It'sa an erotic like carnival. I can't
remember the word they use for it, but it's it's like a bunch of
(18:02):
circus performers, but they basically dolike sex shows in the midst of their
gymnastics and trapeze, you know, all of that. The whole thing is
really goofy looking. There's all ofthese like fake posters of the acts from
(18:23):
like the twenties, it looked like, and she is extremely excited because they're
hard to get, but she managedto book them for that evening. And
when she said that, I waslike, how hard to get can they
be if you manage to like getthem in for that very night. But
(18:45):
it turns out that she wasn't aware. They said only one of them was
available, and it is just theclown who can such himself off. You
guys, this is so so Theactor who plays this dude, I know,
(19:07):
I have seen in a million things. He's one of those faces that
you point and go, oh,it's that guy. He comes onto the
stage and he like you know, does a little bit. He's dressed in
like the kind of clown clothing thatPennywise would be in, like very shabby,
washed out coloring, like he's alreadyin cp A tone. And the
(19:30):
bit he does is really it feelslike halfhearted. And then he gets on
the ground and rolls his hips upover his face, and it cuts to
the audience watching him and like cheeringhim on, and then he sits up
(19:51):
and thanks them all for like thehonor of sucking himself off for them,
I think is the way he isit, and everybody begins to boo because
I think it lasted about a minuteand a half, and Naja had not
(20:11):
only fully expected the entire crew tobe here, but then when it's just
him, figured that he at leastcould put on a performance for a little
while. And as he gets offthe stage, he's actually saying under his
breath that he's never lasted that longbefore. Oh man, I can't imagine
(20:34):
giving myself head like. I justdon't feel like that would work out.
I am sure it would if likeyou know, but I just can't really
imagine the combo of doing it andfeeling it. I just I'm not I
(20:56):
just don't like it. I don'tlike it. So anyway, this is
a fucking wash. And as thisis going on, Naja is getting more
and more slovenly. It's the wordI want to use. Evil. Mabel
is talking to the camera at onepoint and she says that Naja has been
(21:18):
drinking a lot of liquor blood, and she's starting to get worried about her
And I had forgotten about the factthat when vamps drink drunk people they can
get drunk or they can also getstoned. How did I forget this?
I mean, you know, butNaja is like literally falling down in a
(21:42):
couple of scenes and tripping and justextremely her hair is unkempt, her makeup
is all over her face, orif she's just been drinking somebody, she'll
just have blood smeared around her mouthand she won't have cleaned up at all,
and slouring her words really badly, sliding down in her chair like she's
(22:02):
about to just like lay on theground. And I can't decide by the
end of this whether she's like onher way to cleaning up that behavior or
if that's going to be part ofthe down Like, you know, the
club is closing. I'm assuming maybeit's not as bad a failure as it
(22:30):
looked like, but by the endof this episode, it really seems like
the club is fucking shot. Isshe going to just like bounce back from
it, you know, beginning drunkall the time or what? So eventually
she comes up with the idea toto host a audition for other child performers.
(22:56):
And you guys, there's a timelike right after that clown gets off
the stage that she's no, I'mgoing to perform, and she starts singing
about how there's a very large birdcarrying one of her brothers away. I
really want to know if she comesup with this shit or if it's like
the writers or what I love.I like to think it's ad libbed,
(23:19):
but it's it's very good. Thesethese performers. There's a kid who comes
up and sings, and she's likehugely drunk throughout this whole thing. So
one of them comes up and singsand is flat, so she says he's
not very good. I will granthim. That. There's another kid that
(23:42):
comes up and starts to just likespell, and she says that his why
isn't he like in a lock orsomewhere? His bullies are not doing a
very good job, just like youknow, one person after another that she's
waving off stage with a real senseof like I'm pissed that I even had
(24:04):
to be here for any of this, you know, And I really love
this conceit of these creepy children, and that the creepiness is what they like
the vampires. I mean, Ijust really this is such a fun bit
(24:26):
that there's a lot more we coulddo with it, and I'm interested to
see if we do if the youknow, club stays open. I'm trying
to see who else. Okay,so we're going to back up a little
bit and go to Laslow and ColinRobinson because as she's doing this, they
(24:47):
are heading up state to some otherclubs that are like less popular but that
at least will like pay him tobe there. And we go to the
bus that they're riding, and Colinis singing on the bus and he is
so incredibly awkward. You guys,I really can't emphasize enough how much I
(25:12):
hate people singing, Like I just, you know, not always, not
fucking not always, but this momentwhere he's just standing there, it's like
a nightmare to me. The onlything that would make this bearable is knowing
I would have my headphones with meand I could just pretend I didn't hear
(25:33):
him, and I this is likepeople who get on the subway and they're
busting by singing. Some people canbe really good and they'll surprise you when
you're like, you know what, you are getting some money for me.
But sometimes it's just like, oh, stop looking at me. Oh my
god, they're looking at me whilethey're singing. This is so awkward.
(25:53):
And Laslow starts like handing a hataround to collect the like donates of people
because he's calling them freeloaders for listeningto Colin singing when they're not paying for
it. Oh, I forgot thatthere was like this tap dancing girl.
Can you imagine being one of thekids cast to be here, Like I'm
(26:15):
going to do a talent, butthe whole point is that I'm not good
at the talent, or that I'mdoing the talent and being ignored. I
mean, I'm sure it's still amazingto be cast, don't get me wrong,
Like, but it just feels likewhat a weird role to play as
a child, and like kind ofget psyched about the fact that you're going
to be the joke in the scene, you know. And this is when
(26:38):
Naja gets up on the stage andtries to like be like this is how
it's done to the little girl andtakes her like cane away that she was
using as a prop and then promptlyfalls backward into the drums. So all
of this culminates in her like theattempt that Laslow makes to get this,
(27:10):
Colin Robinson in other bars, thingoff the ground gets stymied by Colin going
through puberty really suddenly. And whenI say go through puberty, I thought
he was going to stay a teen, he does not. I mean he
(27:30):
is a teen. I think he'smeant to be a teen. But he
walks in at one point and he'sgot no shirt on, and I know,
like to a degree, we're doingwhat we can do, but they've
had him on a child's body, and I don't know why they are like
pretending he's a teen when he's definitelyin the body of like a middle aged
(27:52):
man. Anyway, he walks inwith like this justin Bieber esque side bang
haircut, and he has really badskin and there's clearly like acne cream all
over his face in a like avariety of places, and he's he is
(28:17):
like his voice starts cracking before hegoes on stage, and Laslow is trying
to pretend it's not happening. AndColin is like in the costume that he
has been wearing as he goes upon stage, and everybody is like,
who the fuck is this because he'sclearly too big for the clothes, and
(28:38):
there are some people in the audiencelike yelling out that that's not Baby Colin.
I think that that's the name they'reusing. They're calling him baby Colin.
But everybody can tell this dude isway too old. And he winds
up like his singing voice is completelyvanished. It's just non existent, and
(29:06):
the whole energy of the room turnson them, so that Colin flees essentially
yelling about how everyone hates him,and Laslow, who had thought like,
oh, yeah, we have acontract, we're all set, everything is
good, they start getting cancelations, and I love that Colin here is saying
(29:30):
I don't I'm not going to besinging anything unless it's the music of popa
roach or Evanescence, which is justlike it's such a it's really like a
you know, millennial teen music thing. Like I feel like the writers are
betraying themselves here. You might pickdifferent bands if you were a little bit
(29:51):
more in touch. But maybe that'salso the point with Colin, you know,
is that he's like kind of notin touch with what's cool. I
don't know, but they wind upcoming home with their tail between their legs
basically, and Naja has decided thatshe is going to forego the entertainment entirely.
(30:17):
She does a thing like after theclown fucks up and leaves, she
tries to do a blood fountain likefrom Blade where they have the sprinklers.
It builts into the ceiling and theblood just comes down. Well, they
don't work, and I kind ofwondered if it was going to turn out
to be, like, you know, the actual physics of trying to pump
(30:40):
something thick and viscous like blood throughthat sort of plumbing system would be really
difficult to pull off. But itjust seems like something malfunction because one of
the wraiths goes absolutely flying, andI did sort of think, even though
it didn't come out where it's supposedto, you guys just wanted blood flying
everywhere, and you did get that, so I think maybe you should just
(31:03):
go with it. But nobody isimpressed. They want the coolness factor and
a big malfunctioning thing is not cool. So when we see Nagen next,
she is alone at the bar.She says it's clear to me now that
without baby Colin as its main attraction, this club cannot survive. It was
(31:27):
the center of the vampire universe, but now it's just a big empty piece
of shit. And there's all ofthese like shots of a like couple of
vamps clustered around a single table lookingkind of sad, you know, the
way that you do when you goto a club and there's almost nobody there.
(31:48):
So Laslo walks in and she's thinking, oh, perfect, we've got
Colin back. But then she looksat him and doesn't recognize him. This
is Colin, hey, So sheknows as well as anybody that this is
just not going to work out.And that's the end of the episode for
(32:13):
them. Now let's back up andtalk about Guillermo. This is amazing,
you guys. I got so excitedfor him and I was like, how
is this going to go wrong? And it does. So he met somebody
while he was in London named Freddy, and I was sort of thinking maybe
there was going to be something realweird about Freddie, but no, it
seems like he is just a genuinelyadorable guy. I say that what winds
(32:38):
up happening up with Freddie in thevery end does point to there being something
weird about him, but you know, nevertheless, so he he's talking to
camera about how he's going to pickhim up at the airport and it's going
to be a whole thing. Andthen he gets a ring in the bell,
(33:01):
goes down to answer the door, and Freddy is here early with a
bouquet of flowers, and he hadgotten his address off of a letter that
he sent, and it's just abig surprise that he is here so early.
I don't know what Guillermo would havedone to prep but I am guessing
(33:23):
he would have at least told Nandorthis guy is coming. Nandor passes by
the door at this point and thinksthat Freddy is here for his benefit,
that this is basically take out showingup at the door, But soon Nandor
(33:43):
starts to realize that this is afriend and Guillermo, who's trying to sort
of make it that like he volunteersbecause of Nandor's developing dementia, that everything
Nandor said sounds really crazy because ofthe fact that he isn't okay, he
(34:05):
doesn't have all of his faculties, which is actually not a bad cover,
but then it makes what happens laterwith the other Freddie really really weird.
You know. So he explains thatthis is my boyfriend, and Nandor like
takes a second and it's just like, oh shit, okay. And I
(34:30):
was really proud of Guillermo, likeI don't know, there's a feeling of
real like ownership in this scene ofyeah, this is like a new phase
in my life. I'm entering andI'm gonna like own it, and I'm
pretty excited about it. And Ifelt really proud of him, like it
was some growth. And it makessense how incredibly fucked up it goes,
(34:55):
because Nandor cannot stand when Yermo ishappy. Is really the whole thing for
me. So Freddie goes into thesitting room and he starts to point out
all of these different things in theroom and what they are likely worth,
and it turns out that he worksat an auction house, so he is
(35:20):
able to price a lot of differentthings and what they might sell for and
you know, be able to tellwhere they're from and everything, and so
that's really fun. And then hestarts just joking around about how like Dusty
the places get a room bub exceptit might kill itself, which he makes
that same joke again a bit later, and he kind of touches Nandor's arm
(35:44):
says something about how he's really gratefulto meet him. If you ever need
somebody to handle this stuff for you, give me a call, and he
takes off, and Nandor's left behindwith a sort of expression on his face.
He has been charmed. He hasbeen bewitched by this young man.
(36:06):
So the next scene is him talkingabout how he can't sleep, that he
can't stop thinking about Freddy, andhe goes to the Genie and he says,
we have a horrible scene between himand Marwa and talking about how much
they're enjoying the respective chairs that they'resitting in. Oh boy, And he
(36:31):
says, but marriage is sacred tome. I never once cheated on any
of my thirty seven wives, andI'm not about to start now. Could
I steal Freddie from Guillermo, ofcourse, but that would be cruel and
also you know, sloppy seconds ifonly And so he goes to the Gin
(36:52):
and says, I'm not sure ifthis is possible, but I wish for
Marwaul to be transformed into an exactcopy of this person. Freddy at parents'
personality everything, and he says, why are you whispering, and Nandor says,
because Marwa is a person that Ilove very much, and I don't
(37:13):
want her to hear that I'm changingher into a completely different purse. So
the way it works is when hegoes back into the room, Freddie is
there and sort of behaving like I'mmeeting you for the first time, but
(37:34):
I am not at all surprised tobe where I am, which I thought
was really interesting, Like it's Iwas sort of wondering if he was going
to be under the impression that hewas with Nandor already, you know,
like but they sort of start fromscratch, and yet there's no evident surprise
(37:55):
about his current situation or wondering howhe got here or anything, which is
fine, but it's just not likeif I were to guess how the scene
would go, I would not havepredicted this. So the next scene is
(38:16):
the back to back traditional New Yorkdates that they each take their respective Freddy
soon because he made a list ofthings he wants to do in New York,
and they both made the exact sameidentical list because they're the same person,
(38:42):
so it totally works out and theywind up doing all of the same
things. Get a pretzel, goto the met, the Whitney Chelsea Galleries,
and that's what it says. Sowe get to see each of them
do their thing, but one duringthe day and one at night, and
(39:06):
both dates are going really, reallywell. They're having such a good time,
and it made me so mad thatI had to like not root for
Nandor if he had just been afucking singing person, but then he wouldn't
be who he is. And Guillermois glowing, He's so happy. We
just don't see him like genuinely happyin this way. And there is a
(39:30):
moment where the two of them arecoming out of a playing of Wicked,
and behind them Nandor and his Freddieare coming out and they both have the
same exact shirt on, and Iwas like trying to figure out exactly how
that timing would work out. Itreally doesn't matter, but they're really close
(39:53):
to each other and they're both almostbehaving like they just got out of the
show. So I'm wondering if theywere at the same show and they just
missed each other, which would reallybe something, but we then jump to
this is so awful, you guys. So Guillermo had gone out for something.
(40:16):
He comes home and he is lookingfor Freddy and he hears no,
wait, he's not looking for him. Freddy's in the car waiting for him,
and he has stopped home to getlike some shoe and soles because they've
been walking all day. And hehears laughter that sounds like Freddy, and
(40:36):
he's like, what the hell? And he goes into the parlor and Nandor
is on the floor in front ofthe fireplace, surrounded by candles, with
Freddy draped over his naked Torso he'sdoing that thing where he's like naked except
for his boots the way that hedoes, and Nandor explains, immediately,
(41:00):
I thought that was gonna be aI can't believe you're cheating on me Freddy's
scenario. But Giarmo was perfectly aware. There's no way he got out of
the car and got in here andgot undressed fast enough. Like this doesn't
make sense. So Nandor explains, this is not your Freddie, this is
my Freddy. And he explains,I had the gin turn marway into a
(41:22):
carbon copy, and Guillermo is notin time to stop his Freddy from coming
into the room behind him, andeach of the Freddy's look at the other
and begin to completely lose their shit. Understandably, I have been assuming these
(41:42):
are twins in this scene. Idon't know if it's like, you know,
just computer generated, and but thereis I feel like there isn't the
sort of look that you get sometimeswhere you do that computer generated thing.
And we know that Collins CGI hasbeen pretty bad, so I like to
(42:05):
think I would be able to tell, and it doesn't seem like that's what's
happening here. But also, thetwo of them are not on camera together
that often. It seems like weturn the camera from one to the other
a fair amount, so maybe youknow, I don't know though they're they're
together here. I'm trying to seebecause even twins, they can have their
(42:30):
differences, like in their face andstuff, So I'm sort of trying to
see if there's any differences that Ican detect. But they're playing what are
they doing? I think they're doingcharades? And it turns out that that
(42:51):
Nandor like brainwashed them both into acceptingthat they're clones of each other and just
not make a big deal out ofit. The whole thing is so weird,
you guys, because they're wearing thesame shirts because they have the same
personality and so they've made the samechoices. And Guillermo is just so livid.
(43:20):
He leaves the two of them inthere and he comes out to yell
at Nandor, and I really didn'texpect this to sink in at all,
because Nandor is so dense, andhe often doesn't let Guillermo finished speaking,
or he seems to either deliberately misinterpretor accidentally misinterpret things that Guillermo says in
such a way that it sidelines thewhole conversation and they never really get as
(43:44):
satisfying back and forth to begin with. So I was really thinking this wasn't
going to land at all, ButGuierremo does a really good job. Couldn't
just let me have one thing ofmy own? When you have yours and
I have mine? You took yourwife, who you transformed into the perfect
(44:04):
woman, and turned her into acarbon copy of my boyfriend? Doesn't that
register with you as being messed up? To which Nandor says stop saying things
that I have done, which isreally the summary of so many men's reactions
to being held accountable to anything thatwas like a mouthful. This is my
(44:30):
last night with Freddie. This mayseem like a huge game to you,
but it's not to me. Ireally care about him. Do you understand
that I've never, in my wholelife ever had a long term boyfriend,
not once, And you find away to make it about yourself, so
thinks, and he walks away, and I was like, oh shit,
(44:53):
because as he's saying this, Nandordeflates, like you can see him really
hearing what Guillermo is saying, youknow, And he goes in and grabs
Freddie's hand, but it's the wrongone because Nandor's taped a sign to Freddie's
back. So he takes his ownFreddy, and the two Freddie's bid farewell
(45:20):
to one another, and then wehave the really sad, sweet goodbye as
he's getting into the taxi to headback to England and Guillermo it's guys,
I don't know why I thought onceFreddie left that Nander would like turn his
Freddie back into Marwa, but thatis not how it goes. He returns
(45:45):
to the house where a carbon copyof his boyfriend is lounging with Nandor,
And it's like the cruelest thing Ican imagine. If anybody out there listening
has been in a long distance relationship, can you imagine an identical copy of
(46:06):
that person being around but fucking withsomebody else right in front of your face.
Like that's a night that's a genuinelike a nightmare scenario. Oh my
god. So we have Guillermo likechatting with him on Skype or something on
his iPad, probably face timing, and the other Freddie hears him and comes
(46:29):
in and is like chatting over hisshoulder and sort of like takes over the
entire conversation. It's really awful. He like takes the iPad right out of
Guillermo's hands and walks away with it. And we have a moment with Guarmo
like doing the talking heads thing, but he asks if they can cut because
(46:51):
he's like starting to cry and it'sso upsetting you guys. Nando brings in
this guy to Giermo's room and it'slike you can have him, and Giermo
says it's not the same and there'ssomething the actor who plays Freddy. His
body language in this scene is sogood in terms of like feeling pity for
(47:17):
Gillermo, but clearly not really beingsuper willing to do this, like he's
doing it out of pity. Butthere's nothing about it that's like what you
want it to be. It's sohis face is so sad and just,
oh my god, I hated it. So Guillermo is left there while Nandor
(47:44):
goes and let's go of Freddy. He leaves Marwa in Freddie form, but
just sends him out into the worldas is, which is truly I don't
know how this would work. Buthe says, like, you know,
(48:05):
his whole goal was to like travelthe world, so I'll let him have
his adventures. And I'm just like, okay, did you give him money?
Did you have a passport? Like? How does any of this work?
Does not matter? I can't helpit, though, you guys know,
I have to say something, right. So we then get the saddest
(48:30):
ending I have ever seen of almostany show. Even though it didn't come
as a total surprise, it stillkind of did. Guillermo's in London.
I decided to go and surprise Freddie, because why not you only live once
and I had all that money savedthat I stole from the club, and
(48:54):
he just says, I stole. He doesn't even try and like mince it.
He has no idea that I'm here. So and then he hears laughter
and says, oh is that him? And the camera zooms in and we
see him giving his clone a kiss. I love you, Freddie, I
(49:20):
love you too, Freddy. Fancya pint of bitter? Why not you
guys? Oh my god? AndGiarmo's heartbreak, y'all. The look on
his face is just devastating. Hisacting is too good. It's too good.
(49:43):
I can handle it. It's upsettingme. I look, I'm just
gonna put it out there. Iam not a person who would fuck my
clone. I'm not gay, firstof all, so there's a problem right
there. But even if I were, I have way too much self consciousness.
(50:05):
I couldn't like turn my brain offduring any encounter, whether it be
sexual or not. I would beso aware. This is how I act,
This is how people see me.This is the way I present myself.
This is the response I have tothings. This is what it's like
to be on the receiving end ofthat, Like I would be I am
(50:29):
already a self conscious person and itwould make me even more so it would
be crippling. There's no way,so like the kind of person that would
be down for this, that's areally particular type of human being. And
the fact that Guillermo doesn't know,so he's basically cheating on Guillermo with himself,
(50:54):
that is another type of narcissism altogether. I mean, I can't I
feel so bad because they clearly himand Giermo were hitting it off so well.
And I want to say it's noloss Guillermo, because this guy is
clearly psychotic if this is what he'sup to. But at the same time,
(51:19):
it's really easy to say that, you know, and they just were
charming together. I really liked themas a little couple, so and especially
after Guillermo this being like a newrelationship and the way things went, Like
basically, if he blamed Nandor forbreaking up his relationship, I think he
(51:43):
would not be out of line. It's Nandor creates a clone, and this
happens if he hadn't done that crazything and then sent that being into the
world on its own. This wouldnever have happened, so this is entirely
Nandor's fault. But also there's apart of me that is like, yeah,
(52:07):
but this man decided to cheat withhis own clone, and if he
is the type of person that woulddo that, maybe it is better that
you not be with him, Giermo. It's just a tough thing to say,
because that's such an unusual and impossibleto compare situation that I don't really
even know what to think, youknow, but I was not expecting it
(52:34):
to wrap up this way. Idid think that we were just going to
have like this joke about how he'sself involved enough to be more interested in
talking to his clone than Guillermo. But I didn't think it was going to
progress to like heartbreak and Guierremo findingthis out the way that he does.
And I am just so sad becauseI know the whole thing with the show
(52:58):
has been what if Vampire were losers? And our Vampire crew in this is
just they never win at anything. But I keep hoping that somehow Guillermo will
be the exception and he will beable to win. And I don't know
why I expect that at all, because that's the whole point is that he
(53:22):
isn't a winner either, and that'swhy he's hanging out with these vampires,
is because they're all toxic losers whodon't have better options. So I keep
sort of like getting my hopes upfor him. You know, at least
in this episode, he stands upfor himself and that's a victory, even
(53:46):
if he doesn't get to hold onto his boyfriend. So in that respect,
I am willing to kind of belike, you know what, that
was growth for you, and thatcombined with the fact that he's in bezz,
I've got some forward movement. Butyou know, the next episode is
the finale of the season, andI do not know what to expect at
(54:07):
all for that, So I'm goingto be really curious, like what are
we going to How how does thisseason wrap? For Guillermo. It's been
such a weird season and it's beensort of all over the place with him,
(54:28):
like you know, the embezzling, but he's like keeping it secret but
seems not that concerned about being foundout. And then this relationship is already
over, So like a lot ofseasons, there tends to be a sort
of overarching plot going with Guillermo inthe background, and you know, when
we rap for the season, wefind out whether he has failed or you
(54:53):
know, there's like a big momentwith him that feels connected, and I
just don't know this season what that'seven gonna be. Like, Yeah,
I have no predictions on that front. And I have to assume the club
is going to like completely close nextepisode because it's in bad shape by the
(55:15):
end of this one and Naja hasnot come up with another idea for like
entertainment. So unless they pull somethingout or Evil Mabel has an idea,
I do not know how that placeis going to like get its legs back
under it. Once you lose steamlike that, it's sort of impossible to
get it back, you know. But I also am talking about this in
(55:37):
a very real life perspective, andthat's not necessarily how they're going to approach
it. So there's that mists inthe chat. I found this too sad.
Yeah, same, It's just Ithink that the show has done such
a good job of showing us howconstantly sad Gayarmo is that to see the
(55:59):
way he absolutely lights up around Freddiemakes it so clear all of a sudden,
how much of a rough time he'shad, and how little we have
seen of him that isn't depressed orangry or resentful or self pitying or whatever.
(56:22):
And it's just such a marked contrastthat you're like, oh, perfect,
It's like the sun coming out,you know, and to have it
just squashed this way, it's justreally mean. Anyway, all right,
I'm gonna wrap this one up.Thank you again so much for commissioning this
show. Max. Really interested tosee how the finale goes, and I
(56:45):
appreciate y'all listening until next time tothe Loo motherfuckers. That was an Unspoiled Network podcast
