What does it mean to age with dignity, connection, and purpose? In this episode of Students of Aging, host Jesse Cohoon welcomes award-winning journalist and author Moira Welsh for a compelling conversation on reimagining long-term care and aging in place. Drawing from her extensive reporting, her book Happily Ever Older: Revolutionary Approaches to Long-Term Care, and her leadership of the Toronto Star's Third Act project, Moira explores innovative elder-care models and underscores the importance of community and meaningful relationships in later life.

Jesse and Moira address significant challenges in long-term care, including ageism, ableism, and the need for human-centered systems. They highlight transformative examples across Canada and abroad—from dementia villages in the Netherlands to naturally occurring retirement communities (NORCs) in Toronto—illustrating how visionary solutions can foster vibrant, inclusive communities for older adults.

Students of Aging is funded by the Government of Canada's New Horizons for Seniors Program.

Presented by WoodGreen Community Services' Seniors Advisory Council.
