Elizabeth Jaffee is the Owner and Director of Gallery Article 15, an art gallery located in the historic Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, DC. It is the first gallery in the United States devoted exclusively to contemporary Congolese art and artists, featuring exhibitions, events, and support for emerging Congolese talent. In addition to Gallery Article 15, Elizabeth is the founder and CEO of Pagne Lifestyle (est. 2019), a brand that designs and sells modern homewares and accessories made from African wax print fabric known as pagne. Before transitioning to the arts and entrepreneurship, Elizabeth served nearly two decades as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State. Her diplomatic work focused on sub-Saharan Africa, with postings in Kinshasa (DRC), N’Djamena (Chad), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), and Maputo (Mozambique), as well as Brussels (Belgium) and Washington, DC. She holds a B.A. from Northwestern University and an M.A. in International Affairs and Economics from Johns Hopkins SAIS. A native English speaker, she is also fluent in French. She lives and works in Washington, DC, and frequently travels to the DRC.
