The Browser Company has released an innovative AI-powered browser for iOS called Arc Search. I usually hesitate to embrace every new AI-driven tool that hits the market, but this feels new and different.
Arc Search leverages AI to simplify and enhance web browsing. Instead of manually opening multiple tabs to compare information, Arc Search performs a rapid web scan of your query and provides a consolidated and customized website with the information you are looking for. This means you get all the necessary information from multiple sources without the hassle of tab-hopping.
For example, searching for "how to watch the Olympics" on Arc Search resulted in a comprehensive summary pulled from six different websites. Within seconds, I had all the details about streaming platforms, dates, and more, presented in easy-to-read bullet points. The browser lists the sources it uses, giving transparency to its process.
Arc Search’s interface is designed for ease of use. Upon opening the app, the keyboard automatically appears with the search bar ready for input. Results are organized under subheadings that resemble a web page, with options to dive deeper into the original sources.
A notable feature is the automatic archiving of inactive tabs after one day, which is customizable to intervals of 12 hours, three days, seven days, or 30 days. The browser also blocks ads, cookie banners, and trackers, and supports various search engines including Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, and more.
The app was recently updated with a new feature called Call Arc, designed to make obtaining quick answers even more convenient. While it already supports Voice Search, Call Arc lets users get answers by simply holding the phone to their ear and asking a question, akin to making a phone call. This feature aims to provide fast, hands-free responses, perfect for situations like cooking where hands-free interaction is beneficial.
For instance, you can ask Call Arc, “How long should I cook spaghetti for?” and follow up with, “Why should I keep some of the pasta water?” The AI responds in real-time, with an animated smiley face on the screen enhancing the interactive experience.
Arc Search is definitely worth checking out, especially for those looking to streamline their mobile web browsing with the power of AI. It’s a promising tool that could very well become a staple on iPhones everywhere.
