In this video Rory gives an insight into the thinking process that he goes through in a round of golf, he breaks down how he copes with shots not working out the way he expects them to and also how it’s actually ok because golf is not a game of perfect.
There are some great life links in this excerpt, particularly around the notion that we always give ourselves a lot of grief when things don’t go exactly as planned and particularly if we have been involved in the errant outcome. He also talks about making sensible rather than ‘hero choices’ that help him to eventually score better even though the temptation is to go for the ‘hero shot’.
The biggest poison that we can have in life is regret, we sometimes use , excuses and complaining as a way of making the outcome the main focus especially if it isn’t the one we wanted. Are you doing things that are putting you in a position to succeed, Rory talks about the process being the most important focus, rather than the outcome, if you have executed the process correctly you then work with the outcome/result and reapply the process again.
Golf is certainly not a game of perfect and many outside factors can influence the eventual outcome even if the player executes the process perfectly and life is the sam it is full of many variables that are outside of our control and we should be only focussing on how good we can execute within our own sphere of influence.
