grapes and the fruit and the nuts and a loud folk.
They don't want to get out that green room.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Man, silver bells and cocker shields are your garden?
Speaker 3 (03:00):
Come on?
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Let me say first of all this I do with
all my guests on Fridays. You know, it's thank you
for being here. You didn't have to, you didn't have to,
but you carved out some time to come to w
d I, and that's good. We are happy that you
all are here. And we've been hearing some great things
taking place in the als ball Uh neighborhood.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
RSH Road. What's the mother streets in that area? ROA
core Are Road Street?
Speaker 4 (03:32):
What street was that?
Speaker 5 (03:35):
You know?
Speaker 2 (03:35):
You're talking talking now you're talking to talk tc uh.
What's some other roads in that neighborhood? Sparks Co So
w I listen, were talking with that Corey talk. We're
(03:58):
talking that Believe Academy and talking now we're talking Corey
middle about. Oh, we're talking Norse Road Church across the
street over in there back in the cut, Ricky Dugga, Yeah, first,
lady Dougga, Man. So I'm gonna tell you something. We
have a lot of listeners in the audience who know
(04:19):
exactly what you're talking about. Where you name them streets
out of the neighborhoods and alci Ball Road up through there,
catch them all, you know, up through there, and so
they're listening right now. What are you guys up to
right now? In terms of the Alca Ball Development Corporation? Uh, ladies,
first might get on my ok.
Speaker 6 (04:40):
MG right Development Corporation where CDC located in the Als neighborhood.
All those roads were just named off train, connect restore.
That's what we do, Connect, Train, restore. However, that's the cycle.
That's the three pillars of the UH of the organization.
I want to connect you through that. We have we
(05:01):
have small events, then we have large events like what's
coming up this weekend?
Speaker 4 (05:06):
Train you.
Speaker 6 (05:07):
We have two major training programs that we hold periodically
through the year, Steps to Home Ownership and Faith and Finance,
and then Restore is where we're able to do home repairs,
emergency home repairs in the community, and also renovate homes
and build new homes for people to go through our program.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
So okay, so you renovate home, renovate homes in that community, absolutely,
and then they can do what eventually if they can
move somewhere else in the community or how does that
work if you get it renovated, and then they can
come back.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
And we talked us about you just a program.
Speaker 4 (05:43):
Too in it, yes, sir, yes, sir.
Speaker 6 (05:44):
So the ultimate goal is to increase home ownership in
Alsaball community. And the way we do that is, hopefully
we'll train you through our Faith and finance class, teach
you how to get your budget right and all of that,
and then you.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Go through our Steps to home Ownership class.
Speaker 6 (05:59):
You'll know what it takes from A to B to
Z to UH, what it takes to buy a home.
And then hopefully when you graduate your credit, you'll start
working on your credit, whatever your obstacles you gotta take
care of to become a homeowner, and then we can
sell you either a newly renovated home or a newly
built home.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
So this kind of reminds me a little bit to
thinking Mike. Uh, Priscilla Reed comes on the radio station
with what is it? Home ownership starts here? What's what's
what's the.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Name of that? You guys probably got to be part
of the you know, uh yeah, yeah, you're not a house.
You might you're not a house to get incorporated.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Do you guys kind of work a little bit together
or just partner or do you Is it similar because
you talk about the classes. I know Ms Reed kind
of is over the education part and she talks about
the class all the time, So it's just something similar.
Or you guys kind of work together as.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
They work, so you're not in housing. We definitely work
a lot.
Speaker 6 (06:55):
They have an amazing mortgage program called a chair mortgage
program that has like the lowest uh interest right yeah,
around right now. So a lot of our graduates end
up taking advantage of that Cherry mortgage. So truly and
Priscilla and all them over there United Housing we work
frequently with them.
Speaker 7 (07:12):
Yeah, so run out that facility as well. We We
have Renolds with Shirley Andrews. She can she can put
you in a B d C. Yeah, can definitely get
you an event center. We're also an event center.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Okay, all right Invincent, what is that building you talking about?
Speaker 5 (07:32):
Right down?
Speaker 7 (07:33):
Astal came and had lunch with us.
Speaker 3 (07:34):

Speaker 4 (07:45):
It's a nice space. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
I was impressed. I really was.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
You know, I try to you know, you know, I
try to walk the walk, you know, talking to talk.
You know, I gotta come by and check you guys out.
I just don't want to do anything. Will it nearly
get you up on the radio and aunt, you know
what's really going on?
Speaker 3 (07:59):
For sure?
Speaker 2 (07:59):
So I enjoyed the classes a matter of fact, you know,
I got a little click or too trying to get
in the right answer is ABC? Who was a gentleman
winning all the questions? There was a guy that it
was like a he had he has a fun name.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
I looked up. He was like always at the top,
you know how when.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
And I'm like dog, he went all he got all
the right he was disqualified. Yeah, right, So we had
to get the runner up because I knew all the answers,
all the top top what Mike name of it at
the top of the list.
Speaker 3 (08:32):

Speaker 2 (08:33):

break for a minute. We're speaking this morning with a
very special guest.

Speaker 2 (08:40):

you know, I don't know what to do. Man, all
this talk about AlSi Ball Development Corporation. I really wanted
to know what it was all about. Michael Gardner, director
of restoration. He oversees all of the renovations and new homes.
He was formerly director of training teaching classes, so he
definitely he could speak to this piece. And Teresa Canselor,
who's in the studio with me, she's a Cory Alarm.
Speaker 3 (09:03):

the streets and still around the neighborhood. I walked them,
you walked them. And you're volunteer with ABC. I almost

real classes seventy four we probly loud and proud.
Speaker 7 (13:44):
Was celebrating the Big seven. Oh next year was David
was David Boy David came out of my sister. I
think David came out earlier. Yeah, that's not Ronda. I
want to say, David War.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
You might eve talk about Billy Billy. Billy Ward Billy
came out when a year before you in seventy one, Okay,
something that sounds about right. And I know David you
know their brothers of course David seventy five. Yeah, so
he came one year after you to ask correct little
Hamilton Tonian talking this morning, y'all, and it's all, yeah,
David is my guy. Folks know that David E. Wall
(14:16):
one of the greatest pianists to ever do it. And
play something on the keyboard, you could do it.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
So a lot of.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
Talent out of Hamilton and that Corey you know, and
that Corey. So now Mike Gardener, who's in the studio
right now. Mike, you're not a Memphis.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
Native, are you? I'm not a Memphis native. No, you
sound like one.
Speaker 8 (14:33):
No.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
You you know this Corey and talked to you know
all this alcayd talk.
Speaker 6 (14:37):
But you're from where originally I'm from Clarksville, Tennessee.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
Clarksville.
Speaker 6 (14:42):
It's at home of Austin p State University for Campbell,
Kentucky governor.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
Yes, the government governs Austin. So yeah, So how did
you end up coming down to the Bluff City.
Speaker 6 (14:53):
Well, my wife, she's from Memphis, and she went to
Austin p and we got hitched married, uh, fell in
love and all of that. And then you know, as
they often do, she won the argument or debate, and.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
Yeah, here we.
Speaker 4 (15:09):
Are in Memphis.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
Yeah, you probably want to stay up there with the governess.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
Then I would have loved to stay.
Speaker 6 (15:13):
But I tell you, man, I so much love down
here in Memphis, so much pride in Memphis, Man, so
much support from my in laws and church family down
here in Memphis and the aselbal community. Man, Memphis got me, man,
no doubt, meth has got me memphasized.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
Yes, Sir Michael Gardener, Ladies and gentlemen, I talked to
me about what somebody just emails his stand.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
I'm filling the Corey Talk Street.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
Yeah, let me tell your mic up to reason way
is that in the road.
Speaker 7 (15:38):
That's a Snars road off Elvis Presley. You can get
to it off of Perry Road. It's down there the
armidap Pole. So if you're from you know the domed
dad Pope.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
Definitely, My dad worked to.
Speaker 7 (15:51):
Post right down from from there.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
You from chiming in this morning. They know about some corey.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
Uh talk to me now about you got a wonderful
executive director, call him Seth affect right, Mister Seth is
a heart talk to me about his leadership and putting
all this together.
Speaker 9 (16:11):
Man.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
And when I was there, you know, I could see
his passion too. He's passionate, man, I think he I don't.
I asked him do you ever sleep?
Speaker 7 (16:19):
Because he's always and he's in and for the community.
I have to give him that I back in one thousand.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
You know what, I'm glad. I'm not don't want to
get asked that question, do you ever sleep? So Seth hearkens.
You know, my first impression of him was that he
was very passionate about this work. You know, you know
the scripture talks about a lot of people. They harp
on this one be doers of the word. But it's
actually later on in that chapter talks there it's be
(16:50):
doers of the work. Come on, now, be doers of
the work. And he's doing the work. Gave me the tour,
you know, it came through that got got a quick
tour of the space you were talking about where you
can hold you know, events and birthday gathering, celebrations, boy
misfits and all that.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
All that was great. You got good food and then
more in portantly, you're changing lives. Right. I met one gentleman.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
He was residing in one of your home, one of
the homes there, and then he got his own down
the street there. I was like, look at this, talk
to me about that this resident, this guy, you know,
he came through the program obviously, right.
Speaker 6 (17:25):
Yeah, set out fishing Alisha this morning. So we started
a set started a program where we do rentals below
market rate, and then we take a portion of their
rent and put it in a savings account, and we
prepped these people to buy homes, you know in a
one year or two year period. And then that money
(17:46):
that we saved in that account can go towards down
payment and closing costs or you know, if they can
take get that taken care of through the city Memphis
or whatever, then that's just money for emergency funds and
things of that nature. So Nate and Alicia, they took
it up that we bought the home that they was
renting we put them into one of our rentals. We
fully renovated the house that they were in, and then
(18:09):
in about probably like eleven to thirteen month period, they
were able to buy the home that they moved out
of what there was renting for it for like five years,
eight years something like that, and now they own that home.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
Everything is brand new inside of man.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
I looked over across the street.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
I was like, wow, Wow, it's nice and nice that
it kept They keeping it, everything up the yard, you know, landscaping,
and it look on brand new. But the renovations absolutely well.
You guys kicked in. We got to throw some information
out there. You get the contact numbers and how can
people how can audience be down if they want to
get to be a part of this, you got to
(18:44):
email or a phone over they can call, how can they
reach out on social media?
Speaker 6 (18:48):
Absolutely everything is olcaball dot org. That is the website
alcaball dot org. You can reach me at Mgardner m
G A R d N E R aren't at al
saball dot org. And we also have an office number okay,
okay to the world quarters ou Saball Developments and a
(19:11):
worldhead quarters. It's nine zero one two four nine five
to one eight zero. Say that again nine zero one
two four nine five to one eight zero, right.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
And ms CANSL. You've got to contact it. That's pretty
much the same as think through that, Okay, reach you
through that fact, all right. So when we come back,
I'm gonna five the phone lines and let w the
guy listeners, you know, ask questions if they have any concerns,
you know, or if they have any some really inquiries,
if you will, about how they can get a home
(19:43):
but in that area of that community, or how can
you give them some down payment assistance, or or what
can they do to own there? I guess so the
first home if that be the case, you know, can
you speak to that when we come back.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
Let me go all right, check this out. We'll be
right back.
Speaker 2 (19:59):
Lady and gym, don't go anywhere. We're talking to our
very special guests. Uh, the one and only Miss Teresa
Candler Corey Junior high lum went on over to Hamilton.
You want to chop it up with her this morning,
you can and Michael Mike dropped Gardner.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
How am I doing so?
Speaker 5 (20:15):
Bar?
Speaker 3 (20:17):
Welcome back, everybody, Thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
If you want to talk to our special guest, Miss
Teresa Candler and Michael Gardner with an AlSi Ball Development
Corporation nin on one five three, five, nine three four
two eight hundred five zero three nine three four two
or eight three three five three five nine three four two.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
I call this my informative show. You know, it's all about.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Yes, we know we jam and music is vitally important,
but more important than that is information. So I got
him in here because I want to know more about
the neighborhood. Yeah, and I'm gonna come out there too.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Doog going in.
Speaker 2 (20:51):
I didn't talk to Talbot. I walked the walk. I'm
coming out there, Mike. Uh, tomorrow You're gonna have a
big event, right absolutely. And it's it's all because because
why what you want to get the alumni together. You
want to get let them see what you're doing. And
you got a lot of vendors tomorrow talk to us
about that. All of the above. We want Corey alumni
to come out. We want people live in the neighborhood
that didn't go to Cory. We want parents of the
(21:14):
students that believe. We want our graduates of our programs.
We want everybody in the city, the people in the churches,
come on out, see what's going on in Elsea ball
enjoy a couple of free hot dogs, listen to some
great music, and just get some information on what we
have going on as it pertains to housing, as it
pertains to financial literacy, just the whole nine, and get
(21:39):
the babies some school supplies or free haircuts or whatever
we have going on giving away to just take advantage
of it. From eleven to three tomorrow at Corey Junior
High Believe Memphis Academy, sir, So, how long is believe
Memphis Academy been in that in that stead if you will,
in that place, in that spaces, I think that's yeah, yeah,
(22:01):
because it was Corey prior to that right now, how
they closed Corey down for a minute before I believe
came in, Yeah, and until it lit'll break.
Speaker 7 (22:07):
And then they just transitioned over.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
Yeah, got some funds, I guess obviously to get it
back up and going and growing. And now you're reaching
out because because the student population there and believe Memphis
Academy is what it's still kind of kind of minimal,
if you will get the numbers up Roman. I think
it's because I've been hearing some amazing things about Believe
Memphis Academy. So it's just a matter of I guess
(22:30):
believing in the community and and the school there is
still standing.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
Right.
Speaker 2 (22:35):

And Ball is an area where it was the gateway
to the airport, to uh, the patrols everything. If you
had rich people live there, moderate people. And you know,
I went to Corey Junior High all right now and
(32:42):
my seventh my seventh through ninth grade year, three years
we didn't have football. They cut football out, but then
they brought it back, but we got shipped over to
but then we were shipped like cargo to to Corey and
they messed up that that that area because we should
(33:05):
have gone to Hamilton. But I'm so happy that the
people you have right now are revitalizing or whatever keeping
the up because you got people like pastor Tony Wade
and Grillfare, Keith Simpson, Ruby Payne. The list goes on
(33:28):
and on. But I'm so happy that you're you're you

Speaker 11 (35:14):
And I said to myself, well, that's the same mister
Tarrll that made it over to tech High and I look,
I don't count our message. So he came to the
right place. That's just like when you're on your way
to a destination.
Speaker 10 (35:34):
And you have to change planes.
Speaker 4 (35:36):
But that's what he did over there.
Speaker 11 (35:37):
Course, So mister Tarrell was the assistant principal at my
beloved tech mesthis let me get it right, put some
respect on it, Methics Technical High School.
Speaker 3 (35:49):
And hello to your guests.
Speaker 4 (35:51):
Yea, that's right, Robert, Yeah, yeah, that's him.
Speaker 11 (36:01):

over there is so phenomenal in regards to well in
a sense, giving back to the community, you know, and
and making sure that the community continue.
Speaker 4 (36:21):
To not only survive, but thrive.
Speaker 11 (36:25):

Ask your your your guests, have they ever heard of
the organization called small Change.
Speaker 3 (36:45):
Have a Small change?
Speaker 11 (36:48):
Small not not not the Small Change the College w
g I A as a matter.
Speaker 3 (36:52):
Of fact, but.
Speaker 11 (36:54):
Small Change is a crowdfunding organization that helps communities, I
think commercial and residential, but it may be just commercial,
but they help these these folks who want to raise
funding from that standpoint to renovate, renovate properties and bring
(37:15):
them up to speed.
Speaker 4 (37:17):
I don't know a lot. I'm mostly on the from.
Speaker 11 (37:20):
The private capital standpoint.
Speaker 4 (37:22):
They send me.
Speaker 10 (37:22):
Information all the time via email.
Speaker 11 (37:24):
So since it's not something that I'm really interested in doing,
but I thought it would be great for Community Development Corporation,
possibly because I don't know the legal ramifications of CDCs
in regards to using even crowdfunding capital to take a look.
So therefore it's small change. Dot co is that you
(37:47):
are l and and hopefully if it's something that can
help you in what you're doing. I wish you well
on that and thank you again for what you're doing
over there in South MESSRS. That's something that's needed all
over the city such that we can rebuild.
Speaker 7 (38:02):
I'm a mention.
Speaker 11 (38:03):
I love the city. Every now and then I love
to hear a car door, so I'm not a country board.
So we respect and we pray for you and hope
and all the success in the world. I gotta tell you,
it's hot out there. I don't have to pass on tomorrow,
but we hope you have a successful EVE.
